Change Samsung power saver GPS settings - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

Hey Guys,
I am trying to get as much battery life out of my S9+ Exynos (SM-G965f) as I can so I like to keep it in power saving mode. The only issue with this is using my phone for GPS navigation. While using google maps I like to just listen to the voice commands and keep the screen off to save a little battery. In power saving mode with the screen off it will kill the GPS location. The current fix for this is turning off the battery saving feature and then it will keep tracking the GPS location with the screen off. Problem being when turning on/off the battery saving feature it has an animation and goes through each of the setting when doing so.
Is there a way to edit the power saving settings so that Google Maps can still use the GPC location with screen off in power saving mode?
Also on a side note, my phones location keeps changing out from battery saving mode. How can I tell which app is changing the location type?

[Q] Power Saving Mode keeps changing my settings

So I have set my power saving mode to come on at 30% and for it to disable everything except wifi. The problem is that after I charge my phone back up, those settings remain disabled even though power saving mode is turned off, so I have to manually enable them each time. Is there a way around this?

What ROM and kernel is on your phone?
If you enable user specified power saving with your customized settings (30% battery => shut down everything accept wifi), and you did not disable this power saving mode, when exactly is the power saving mode disabled?
As soon as you plug in the power cable?
And is it not re-enabled automatically, after pulling the power cable out?
Sorry, but I did not exactly understand your issue.
"those settings remain disabled even though power saving mode is turned off" => Yes, that's correct. If the power saving mode is turned off, all power saving settings should be disabled.
This sounds to me like "normal" behavior.
Maybe I misunderstood something in your description.

I'm on stock 2.3.3 and KG2
And I meant that these settings do not revert themselves after I finish charging the battery. For example, at less than 30%, my power saving mode turns off syncing. But once I finish charging my phone back to 100%, the syncing is remained off, so essentially, my power saving mode never really turns itself off even after charging.
I noticed the same thing - it's very annoying to set my screen timeout to 2 minutes, and when power-save mode comes on, it gets reset to 30 seconds and stays there.
I ended up turning off almost all of the power-saving features, and setting the threshold to 5%. I'm running the stock rooted kernel with NoCIQ, so I already have a pretty substantial battery life (~24-30 hrs with normal usage and wifi at home).

Have a look at MyProfiles app from the Market.
Maybe it can help you to switch between different profiles based on system triggers.
Or use AutomateIt app to define rules when to toggle wifi, bt, gps, etc.
Just worth a try...

Thanks for the suggestion, but I kinda want to get to the root of the problem here as opposed to installing an app to mask it. Does anyone else know what's wrong with my phone?
There's nothing wrong, that's just the way it works, it change your setting when activates but doesn't change them back.
I no longer use it, since I have GPS/wifi/BT disabled unless I use them anyway.

[Q] System Power Saving

hi,
I'm using android 2.3.6
The "System Power saving" feature seems to be turning off my Auto-Sync - i cant get push emails on my gmail. Has anyone else noticed this?
Hence im talking about System power saving and not User Power saving mode
What's wrong with that? Auto Sync uses a lot of battery as it constantly draws new data from the server every few minutes, and System Power Saving is aggressive power saving, so expect most things to be turned off, so it maximizes battery life.
because I looked at the settings for User Power saving mode. it had the feature that disables the auto-sync process.
Thats why I didn't think using System Power saving mode will also disable the auto-sync. that would be kind of like double-handling. I guess im wrong
Hey there. If you want proper and customizable power saving get SiyahKernel, voltage control to tone down max frequency and 2nd core to manage active cores. The stock power saving feature is horrid.

Figure out how to save energy

I got this phone last week. It's beautiful and very fast. But as expected, the battery is terrible.
The normal energy saver doesn't do much for me. And the extreme energy saver is not something I'd like to use on a daily basis. What does the normal energy saver do?
Normal energy saving mode
Stop background data, unless connected to WIFI
Dim screen, unless brightness is set to manual
I even noticed that the S Health services (constantly checking for motion pedometer) is still on in power saving mode.
There are a lot of options on this phone that are convenient, but I'm not sure which ones are having a non-negligible impact on the battery. Maybe we can combine our knowledge and come up with a list. We can each personally choose which ones we can live without, and which ones we want/need. I'll start with the ones I am thinking of:
Possible energy consuming functions
Touch Sensitivity: For when wearing gloves. Is this just the way software interpretes data, or does this in fact require more power?
Air View[link]: Is this just the way software interpretes data, or does this in fact require more power?
Smart stay: Uses front camera, which requires power. Is the camera always on, or only in browser?
Smart pause: Uses front camera, which requires power. Is this always active? Every video? Only Samsung video player? Youtube?
Smart scroll [link]: Uses front camera, which requires power. Only in stock browser? Or all apps?
S Health: I personally like the pedometer. Makes me walk a bit extra. Those pedometers you get for free with your groceries work forever on a penlite battery. But the one on the phone, does it have dedicated hardware? Or does it prevent the phone from sleeping, monitoring gyro sensors permanently?
Multi-window: Probably uses multiple cores. Can you just keep this mode active even if you use a single screen? Or does this mode permanently require more power?
3G: Switching to 2G always requires less power. Is this setting gone in the ALPHA?
Quick setting switches (toggles)
Half those options have a quick setting on the backside of the notification screen. But the other half does not. Which is annoying. Do the "hidden" features not matter as much for power? Is there a way to add these "hidden" features to the quick setting screen?
Discuss.
I would say that everything extra uses more power.
I always use power saving with limit cpu usage option, and haven't noticed a performance drop even if gaming. I also have disabled many samsung bloatware apps that i don't use (basically everything ). And I also use Greenify apps to stop those bloatware apps which can't be disabled.
If I had root, I would also remove "wake up" and "keep wake" from Google play services, which is currently my biggest battery draining app/service.
Hey guys, i've tested the "Restrict background data" and it works really GOOD!
More specific, my device is using 450mah (or at least, this is the reading im getting).
So with "No restriction for the back data" & logging to a 3G network (UMTS) im loosing: 1% / 2hrs
With restrictions ON & logging to a 2.5G (EDGE) im loosing: 1% / 3.5hrs !!!
Mind that this measurement is in IDLE state (screen off).
I believe that this "Restrict background data" option is also been used by the system,
when the user is activating the "emergency mode".

Customize Battery Saver Mode in Android (7) 8 - exclude app from Saver Mode actions

Hallo there,
in reference to How to Customize Battery Saver Mode in Android 8.0 Oreo, I'm wondering if it is possible to exclude apps from Android default Battery Saver Mode. I've experienced that it still allows App WakeLocks but in a much lower frequency. I tested it with some GPS tracking apps.
What I want is that the entire phone goes in saver mode but the GPS tracking app otherwise it pins a signal only every 5 to 10 minutes instead of what is in the app settings.
thx
Stefan

Tips to For Increasing Battery Life on the Galaxy Note 10

Sooner or later you will find yourself looking to save some battery life. here are a few ways.
5 Tricks to save battery life:
1: Change to a Dark screen or theme: 0:22
2: Put apps to sleep: 1:39
3: Turn-down display resolution and Screen timeout: 3:07
4: Turn off unnecessary features: 4:36
- Wifi
- GPS
- Bluetooth
5: Switch off Vibration and Animations: 5:25
6: Ultimate Battery saver: 7:00
The video shows how to do these if you're not familiar with the settings on the phone. Feel free to add to the list.
If you have anyways of saving battery ( not turning the phone off...) then share it.
Debloating could potentially save some battery. Turning off Wellbeing as well
agreed with other poster, you are crippling the phone with those features disable. Although, I have been testing dark theme and it does help with battery.
I also went into Settings and search for Usage data and disable most app usage data for apps and it gives a performance boost. I also scaled down animation from 1x to 0.5x in dev option.
#8. Do not your phone
I use Nap Time by Francisco Franco which helps especially when you're not using the phone, just need two adb commands to work. Have also debloated quite a bit and not having any troubles with battery life.
For me, an overnight charge gets me through a full day of normal usage, so I don't bother with many power-saving sacrifices. I use AOD and maximum screen resolution, with GPS, BT, & NFC enabled; I don't engage general power-saving, or debloat or disable apps or services. But I do avoid keeping the screen brighter than necessary, I use Night Mode (dark theme), and I enable automatic control of WiFi (turns on when I'm near a network I use, otherwise turns off).
If I'm traveling & sightseeing, constantly using the phone for navigation, photography, and web browsing, and running through a VPN when on WiFi, then the battery only lasts half a day, so I carry a charging brick to supplement it.
I work where I have a lot of free time but no way to charge my phone so haveing a few ways to save battery helps. I do have a battery pack but sometimes I just don't feel like carrying it and a wire.
When you are out of the house and will not be around wifi for a while, turn it off. It constantly searches.
It's not just a couple things... it's many.
Depending on the user and the variant, what works for some will not work for all. Dependencies... know what they are or learn.
If you're still on Pie DO NOT upgrade as it will make optimizing harder.
My SOT on my 10+ is 7-11% @hr 7% for web browsing and 11% for vid streaming. It rarely goes above that... if so I go looking for the cause.
Google play Services is disabled unless I need it running.
Wifi, always disabled.
Bluetooth as needed.
Manual brightness and syncing except for text.
All power management is disabled except fast charging is toggle off. CPU/display power mode set to optimize.
Google Backup Transport and Framework always disabled.
All cloud crap and carrier, Google, app, Samsung feedback disabled.
Google Firebase, Assistant and Quick Search always disabled.
All emergency services junk disabled.
As much of Knox as possible.
All MS crap.
All AT&T junk except texting.
Much of the Samsung bloatware is package blocked but some Samsung apks are useful.
Package Disabler and Karma Firewall lock it down along with a custom settings configuration. About 86 packages are always disabled with about 7 that are toggled on/off with the PD MDM widget.
