Following is worked for me on my Samsung Galaxy S3 i9300 with LineageOS 14.1:
1. Flash original ROM with Odin. (if at this moment IMEI is not correct use program "Samsung Tool" to manually edit IMEI)
2. In security setting, set SIM card lock to none. (After this you should permanently disable SIM pin request on startup on every new ROM)
3. Flash custom TWRP recovery with Odin.
4. Root phone.
5. Make nandroid backup of EFS using TWRP.
6. Wipe cache, system, boot, data and flash custom ROM (do not reboot system after flash).
7. After flashing custom ROM, restore EFS using TWRP.
8. Flash Opengapps, wipe cache, dalvik cache and reboot system.
9. Set everything up Google account...etc.
10. In options check if IMEI is valid. (If is not, reboot to recovery and try again to restore EFS)
If you don't have working cellular network after flashing custom ROM, read following:
From Play Store install app "Cell Network Reset".
Open app and run "Reset Cell Network". (This step is weird because some times after few minutes i get working network, some times after few seconds. Also some times i need to run "Reset Cell Network" few times in a row to get the network working)
I hope it will work for you

good.

Neatrom - no service and other problems

I just rooted my phone with CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG1-v4.1-CWM4. Everything worked fine.
Then I used I9100XWMS1_NeatROM_Lite_v5.1.1 and I have a few problems:
- I have no service. I can see the service bars at the top of the screen, but I can't make calls/send SMS. I can see available operators under mobile networks -> network operators, but manual selection of my operator results in "unable to connect. try later" message. Is it possible that this ROM doesn't work in certain countries? I live in Poland.
- I can't see my SIM contacts in address book. I can only see them if I search for them, I can only see myself otherwise.
- swiping downwards from the upper part of the screen (which brings up the shortcuts for enabling/disabling wi-fi etc.) sometimes shuts down the phone immediately. Am I doing something wrong?
- lock screen doesn't seem to work. Pressing the power button locks the phone, but pressing the home button just goes back to whatever screen was displayed before the lock.
Maybe flash a different modem to see if that works, I'm having a similar problem but with the data only working oh H+.

Try flashing different modems until the issue is gone starting with the modem that came stock with the device
Else try a different rom solves all your problems

How do I change the modem? ClockWorkMod -> Flash update and just select a zip file containing a modem?
I got all the non-T zips from here (Veyka's collection):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1131950
this helped me
install the app give the root rights then click fix
your phone will turn off and after restarting lock screen and pin code screen will be displayed

I just flash via Cwm in recovery mode with a zip file. Never had any issues apart from the data since I started flashing but that's a work in progress changing modems myself to find a decent working one.

Only the zip files are flashable via cwm so look out before you flash
Try cwm->install zip from sd card(not install an update) and choose the modem
Also do a nandroid backup and also the efs folder backup
Gud luck mate
Tried XXKH3 and XXLPR and neither of them work
All those Philz Touch options are confusing and I'm a newbie, so...
- if I want to install a new ROM, should I do this: Wipe Data/Factory Reset -> Clean To Install A New ROM and when it's done Install New ROM and choose another ROM?
- if I want to revert to the original Android: Wipe Data/Factory Reset -> Wipe Data/Factory Reset ?
- I made a CWM backup before flashing NeatROM. What's that for (Backup And Restore -> Restore From Internal SD Card and it's there) ?
EDIT: I just remembered something. My phone was running 2.3.4 before I rooted and flashed it. Does that matter?

1.yes you should do a clean wipe as you mentioned before installing a new rom
2.you can revert back to your original android only if you have done a nandroid backup i.e. cwm backup
3.factory reset does not revert your phone back to original android version
4.no 2.3.4 does not matter at all for custom roms but does matter for modems
OK, so I installed the newest SlimBean and everything seems to be all right.
One more question: can I delete the modem zip files (including the one I flashed) and the NeatROM zip? I just want to be sure.
Thanks.

"Activating Mobile Data Service" workaround on AOSP Roms

This issue has been posted several areas, and most might not know which thread to look.
To get around the "Activating Mobile Data Service" problem while flashing AOSP roms while on the new format, simply flash the rom alone, then boot into Android without flashing Gapps. This will bypass the Welcome screen. Setup WiFi, if applicable. Then reboot into recovery and flash Gapps, your kernel, and any other mods you desire.

Wow... you say it just too easily... a tutorial or something more specific for people to learn. thanks...
Ok...here are the exact steps.
In Android
1) Download your rom of choice.
2) Download Gapps, if you don't have it.
3) Reboot into recovery
3a) Use an app, such as Quick Reboot from the Play Store for easiest access
In Recovery
4) Perform a FULL WIPE.
4a) In TWRP, hit Wipe-->Advanced Wipe-->choose Dalvik Cache, Cache, Data, & System
4a.1) Swipe the bar on the bottom of the screen to complete the wipe.
4b) If you are coming from another AOSP rom, the Gapps will not be wiped through a simple Factory Reset...
4b.1) ...because the Gapps are installed to the System partition, and a Factory Reset only wipes Dalvik Cache, Cache, & Data
5) Go back to the home screen, and hit Install.
6) Navigate to the location of the rom zip file, and touch it to flash.
7) Swipe to flash it. Reboot to Android.
In Android (1st boot of new rom)
8) This will load up to the homescreen initially. Set up your WiFi network (if applicable).
8a) You will not be able to add any Google accounts because the Gapps package wasn't flashed.
9) Reboot back into recovery.
Back in Recovery
10) Navigate to the location of the Gapps zip file, and touch it to flash.
11) Swipe to flash it.
11a) Flash anything else of your choice, such as kernels and/or mods.
12a) Reboot to Android.
Back in Android
13) Profit.
Bypass welcome
Could also use the 1, 2, 3, 4 trick...just tap in clockwise direction of screen, upper left, upper right lower right lower left...takes you to the launcher.

Clean install of CM13 (no simcard detected)

A few years ago I installed CM11 which gave my phone a new boost. A few months ago I noticed the development of CM13 for this device. With the arrival of the snapshots I decided it's time to upgrade.
I'm familiar with the CM13 on another device (Galaxy Tab 2) so I think I know how it works.
I tried several times but the problem is that my SIMcard is not detected.
I use this device as my daily phone, so luckily every time after restoring to my current CM11 everything works fine again.
Current
CM version: 11-20141115-SNAPSHOT-M12-i9300 (smallband I9300XXUGNA8)
TWRP version: TWRP 3.0.2-1
(Living in the Netherlands)
To install:
cm-13.0-20160820-SNAPSHOT-ZNH5YAO0J2-i9300
open_gapps-arm-6.0-mini-20160901
1. sync several apps
2. reboot to TWRP recovery
3. full backup to External SD
4. wipe (factory reset)
5. advanced wipe (cache, dalvik cache, data, system)
6. connect USB-OTG
7. install (in queue: cm-13.0 + open_gapps)
=> no errors
8. wipe cache, dalvik cache
9. reboot to system
during configure: No simcard detected
10. ignore
11 finish configure
12 enable root
sim working: no ( but with sim pincode ON not possible to pass lockscreen )
imei: correct number (checked with DevCheck)
smallband: yes (I9300XXUGND1)
contacts: yes
Also tried to reboot and
To shutdown + remove sim + boot + shutdown + reseat sim + boot
=> nothing
Revert to CM11 and everything works like it should.
The whole world is happy with this CM13 build (and newer nightlies), so I can't believe it has something to do with the rom. While I don't have any problems with my phone on CM11 I'm sure, my phone is fine.
So, what am I doing wrong? Wrong combination of software? Something with partitions, filesystem, etc (never played with that)?
Something with my current carrier Vodafone (sim is simlock free) combined with the XX modem and radio (while should need XP for Netherlands)???
I'm out of options. Please help.
Thanks in advance, René
//Edit
Could it be something to do with the TWRP version I use? Older forum posts (12-2015) suggests that newer versions then 2.8.6.0 wouldn't flash radio and modem correct.
Is it possible to flash an older version of TWRP over the current on...?
I'm in the exact same boat except I had TW 4.1.2 before trying CM13
Phone needs to be running these latest bootloader and modem.

Lineage OS 14.1 SIM pin operation not working

Hello everyone,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100 and I'm trying to install Lineage OS 7.1. The flashing goes smoothly but when it reboots, I type the SIM's pin and I get the "SIM operation failed" message. I remember I messed around with the efs folder some years ago but after that I have been able to flash several ROMs, CM 12.1 for instance. I tried to flash CM 13 but I did ran into the same problem, I couldn't go beyond the SIM's pin screen.
I'm trying to use EFS Professional but in the Device Filters menu there's no Galaxy SII and no matter what device I choose, the Device Partition window stays blank. I can not do anything with it.
The current IMEI in my phone right now is 004999xxxxxxxxx. How can I reset it to the right one? I'm desperate!
Try reinstalling 4.1.2 With Odin and reflash LineageOS

[SM-G318ML] Multiple problems while trying to install a Custom ROM

Good morning to you all, and thanks in advance if you can help me.
I just received an Ace 4 Neo from a neighbor who asked me to 'make it faster' and 'newer'. Naturally, with the Stock ROM what Samsung overloads, I wasn't going to do nothing as close. I came to the always loyal xda and found the Mega Thread of Ace 4 Neo: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ace-4/development/rom-cyanogenmod-11-12-13-ace-4-neo-ace-t3627637
I put into the phone the oldest Stock ROM available from the same origin country and carrier (TIGO - Paraguay), and after installed Custom Recovery TWRP 3.1.1-0 and tried to install a Custom ROM. There is where my problems started.
First, I tried to put CM13 or MIUI (Android 6.x) with no success. The phone when turning on just showed the model and stayed there. The only change was a red exclamation sign on the upper part of the screen. (Possibly, this will be helpful for you: When installing, the result said [ ] instead of [/system])
After 6 failures with each one, I desisted and instead tried with CM12.1 and this one successfully installed. I also tried to use OpenGApps Pico (as I really messed up trying to find how to install the GApps of the thread), and the phone turned on "without problems" (the CM in fact started, but the red exclamation point is still there).
After 8 minutes configuring the GApps, I configured the Google Account and such. However, I went to Play Store for naturally install WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter... The common things.
Surprise! The phone when installing suddenly rebooted. When turned on again, the home screen closed and opened 4-5 times in 20 seconds and rebooted again. It maintained on that loop over and over.
So, am I doing something wrong? Or do you know about how to fix any of the previous issues?
As a final note, because the Mega Thread doesn't have the classic installing instructions, after navigation for 2 hours I constructed this steps:
1. Reboot to Custom Recovery
2. Wipe > Advanced Wipe > Everything except Internal Memory and SD Card (Dalvik + System + other two things)
3. Install ROM
4. Wipe Cache/Dalvik Cache (the button what shows there)
4. Install GApps
5. Wipe again Cache
6. Reboot
Again, thanks in advance.
Hi, @Pedreo1997. You need wipe internal storage, too.
Step-by-step install custom ROMs:
Flash oldest stock ROM with Odin.
Reboot system > use 1-2 minutes ( for sure )
Install TWRP 3.x.x
Wipe everything except sdcard.
Wipe > advance wipe > check system > option > repair
Install ROM and Gapps.
Reboot and enjoy
