Every android device has a specific codename assigned to it by the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer).
The codename assigned to the Redmi 5 Plus is vince.
The codename helps differentiate between phones with different internals because sometimes the real names of the device are not clear or are too long to be used in coding the firmwares. The Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus is a long name with several spaces and cannot be used in coding of firmware. So a shorter name is assigned. Then there is the confusion that is sometimes present in names of the phone. The Redmi 5 Plus in China is being sold as the Redmi Note 5 in India. But in China there is another device being sold by the name of Redmi Note 5. The indian and Chinese Note 5 are completely different and so have different codenames. But as the Chinese 5 Plus is the same as Indian Note 5, both the devices have codename vince.
Edit:
If you wanted to ask what the codename for the Redmi 5 is and not about Remi 5 Plus, the codename for Redmi 5 is "rosy". This is the phone with 5.7" screen and Snapdragon 450

hi all,
I bought (at least what I thought I did) xiaomi redmi note 4x and I just niticed that the phone info says xiaomi redmi note 4 and note xiaomi redmi note 4x... have I been tricked?
Thanks for the help..
Re
As long as you got the Snapdragon (Which is the Octa-core) you own what we would call the 4X, but better the MIDO.
Xiaomi is inconsistent in its naming scheme.

MIDO is the code name/production name of the Xiaomi Note 4 with snapdragon, NICKEL is the codename of the Xiaomi Note 4 with Mediatek Chip
Xiaomi released Redmi Note 4 in china with MTK. Then, because of legal problems they released Redmi Note 4 in India with SD. Since the global Redmi Note 4 was already MTK, they named the global SD variant Redmi Note 4X.
My model number is also written as Redmi Note 4. I bought it from Flipkart. I am not aware what is 4X! I just knew that Note 4 has two variants Mediatek and Snapdragon.
Hi everyone,
is there an seperat forum for China version? Because the Camera setup is different.
We need Indian and China Version separeted, dont we?
Thank you.
Nobody has an answer?
This forum is for the Redmi Note 5 (In India)/ 5 Plus with the codename Vince, both of which have a single camera setup. I assume you are talking about the Redmi Note 5 (International)/ Pro with the codename "Whyred" which has the dual camera setup. If you are talking about the latter, then head to the forums foe the Redmi Note 5 Pro.
How can we know which version we have?
My supposed to be China, how can I confirm?
Thanks

So my girlfriend's Redmi Note 4X just broke the screen and she needs a new phone. She was so pleased with it so we wants to try Xiaomi again. However, Xiaomi's model names are so amazingly stupid so I am having trouble choosing.
The first, cheaper, option seem to be the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus.
https://www.honorbuy.com/215-xiaomi-redmi-5-plus-global-version
It is pretty cheap and seems most like the old 4X except the 18:9 screen.
The other option is the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5
https://www.honorbuy.com/218-xiaomi-redmi-note-5
This looks like a newer phone with a new camera and a new(better?) processor but still with the same screen as the Plus model.
It is also a bit more expensive and only the chinese version seem to be available.
I have seen people here talking about the Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro but I can't find this model anywhere? Is it the same as Plus?
I was wondering what is the best choice? I will flash LOS on the phone, not sure if that will work on the chinese version or if that version even has support in my country?(Sweden). Which device has the most support here in the forums? Should I buy a "Global" version?
redmi 5 plus = redmi note 5 , and REDMI NOTE 5 PRO is another device
redmi 5 plus and redmi note 5 is same device, but region wise the name is different.
another model is REDMI NOTE 5 PRO with upgraded processor and dual camera, and a front camera of 20MP. I hope the confusion is clear now.

Ok, so just to confirm:
Redmi Note 5 and the Redmi Note 5 Plus is the same device, the name difference is because of regions. However these models exists in various configurations such as different amounts of RAM, storage and colors.
Redmi Note 5 PRO is a newer model with dual cameras, and new CPU.
Is the pro version even out? Because I can't find it. Then I got examples such as this: https://www.honorbuy.com/218-xiaomi-redmi-note-5
Which do have dual cameras and new cpu but no 20MP front camera.

Absolutely correct.
Pro version is availabe here in India.
One easy way to distinguish is PRO version has dual rear camera and 20MP front camera, where redmi 5 plus / redmi note 5 has single camera .

Alright! I just looked at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5px3gLUZgY and he said that the chinese version does not support Band 20, so I will probably wait until the PRO version comes out in a global version.
Redmi Note 5 Pro (India) - whyred - Redmi Note 5 (China/Global)
Redmi Note 5 (India) - vince - Redmi 5 Plus (China/Global)
I have redmi note 5 Global version. What is the suitable section here for it? I mean is it redmi note 5 pro section? or redmi note 5 / 5 plus section ?

There are two different general Forums for these two different devices.
Compare specs of your device with specs listed at the left of your monitor/screen/display to identify your model.
General Forum for Redmi Note 5/5 Plus (which section you are now):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-5
General Forum for Redmi Note 5 Pro (most of users tend to call it Redmi Note 5 global so maybe this is the yours):
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-5-pro
Within any of these you have to search for the right section depending on what you want/need (Q&A-guides, news, roms, themes, etc).
Hi everyone,
I have a Redmi Note 5 and a number of months ago I installed CrDroid Whyred on it. It's working fine. However, I see that I should be using Vince...or should I?
Thanks.
P.S. Just to be clear, it's not a Redmi Note 5 Pro.
Oh...found my answer, I think:
Redmi Note 5 - Whyred or Vince?
Hello, just come over to ask, want to buy my wife and me new phones and found the xiaomi redmi note 5 (global version). Specs are good enought for us, so want to buy it and want (of course) flash lineageOS but now i am confused with...
forum.xda-developers.com
Yeah, it's a Snapdragon 636. I must have worked that out before and completely forgot!
