Okay, so FIRST OFF, I'd like to avoid any flak I may take for this guide lol. Also, I'm not gay or anything. I just prefer not to sound boring and unclear, unlike a lot of people aha. Before you start saying, "CyanogenMod iz da [email protected][email protected]!" and "Yew suk newb unlok yew bootlodah!," I'd like to point out that SURPRISINGLY ENOUGH there are a lot of people here who haven't been able to unlock their bootloader, thanks widely to T-Mobile USA. -.- So there are many people who have root and recovery, but are unable to install ROMs and feel unsafe flashing European phone versions, only to mess up and screw over their phone's digitizer with no knowledge of how to fix it! (lol) Anyways, if that's you.. THIS THREAD IS FOR YOU!

I've heard your cries. I've heard of how you hate the stock UI. I've heard of how you want to theme. I've heard of how you want to flash your phone so far into oblivion until the point where it only shares physical characteristics with the other... stock (ewww) L9's. And here's how to do it! This is going to take some time, and it won't be a perfect thread as it's one of my first. However, I hope I can suit it up into nice sections for you!

Alright, so to all you experienced users, disregard this section aha! Basically I'm teaching you how to root and gain CWM access in a broad 3 step process. Enjoy!
Click to collapse
STEP 1.) Root your phone. If you're on JB, use THIS METHOD. You don't need to do the spritebud check, just run the application provided and it should root you. After you do this, install the Superuser app from the Play Store that was developed by CLOCKWORKMOD, and start it and select "install" on the popup dialog. If it failed to install the binaries, run the LGPwn application again and do it a couple more times until it works, if it doesn't, ask for help on his thread.

STEP 2.) Install busybox and CWM. Go to the Play Store and download the BusyBox app made by Stericson, and install busybox. Then go into Artas' L9 Recovery Installer, and install that. You can find the recovery HERE.

Click to collapse
STEP 3.) When you power on your phone, the LEDs should flash repeatedly for about 3-5 seconds, in order to enter CWM Recovery, press the VOL DOWN button and it should load up the menu. DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING YOU AREN'T SURE ABOUT.

Before you freak out, yes there is customization with rooted phones that doesn't require an unlocked bootloader! The best of which is done using the Xposed Framework, a guide that I made HERE. Check out that guide, it's also a work in progress and YES, I know, it looks hideous. I'm not good at formatting on forum posts, but HEY. I'm learning.

Alright, so you've either continued to read here because... 1.) You're a rebel who didn't click the LINK DARN YOU, 2.) You've themed your phone with Xposed (AWESOME), or 3.) You didn't want to because you're a BORING LAZY POOPFACE. With that being said, ever seen those stupid QSlide apps that you MAY or MAY NOT use? You can't remove them on stock. They take up space and make it look all.. blegh. BUT! There's this really awesome guy named @mateo1111 who created a mod to remove those pesky space-wasters from your precious notifications! AND, if that wasn't enough, he created a mod to make your notification bar PITCH BLACK. It looks absolutely, undeniably, SICK. Here's the links to each of his posts.

Now, there are also modified applications available, in various colors and formats. I personally am a huge fan of transparency, as I use a setup with a (usually) galactic wallpaper, and set that as my keyboard background using "Kii," and have my epic background in all the apps I use But how would I do that? Well, "Team Blackout" has made it easier than ever! I'll leave links to their stuff below I highly recommend their things, and they actually complete orders and requests. It's amazing, and I can't turn back to the bright white and ugly color schemes that Google uses in their applications. Check these out guys

There's a TON of apps in the Play Store (More than iOS now W00T!), but the best are often hidden among the popular Chinese ones filled with advertisements. (Go Dev, I'm looking at you.) So without further ado, here are the applications that I absolutely recommend without a doubt to ANYONE with this phone, or any phone, for that matter.
Textra - This is a given. It's a texting replacement app, and its ingenious Group Chat feature is unrivaled and is cross-platform. It even has an amazing feature to turn on data only when sending/receiving MMS. Amazing. Also, it looks a lot like the "Kik" app if you know what that is. I personally am not a fan of that iOS/Android-blend kinda UI, but it's doable I guess. I recommend using Hangouts for SMS now.
Next Browser - Wow, Go Dev Team actually made a decent piece of software for once! Don't get me wrong, I'm no developer, and couldn't do any better, but their applications are bloated into eternity. Sadly, I've watched this browser get more bloated slowly and slowly, but at least they haven't advertised their other apps in it yet. ANYWAYS, this browser is really fast and smooth, but doesn't sync across devices like Opera/Chrome/Firefox, so sorry to multi-device fanatics.
A replacement launcher - Smart Launcher, Apex, Nova, Holo, Action, anything but the stock LG Home. Please. It's too slow and wastes RAM, and is kinda blegh in my opinion. But to each their own.
Duolingo - Learn a language. Seriously. Do it. It's fun on here. The tools are amazing and it's simply... simple. Spanish/Italian/Portuguese/German/French, and more being added in time. You can also learn English, but I don't see how you'd be reading this..
Bible - Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs, and do not take this as an offense, however, if you are a Christian, this is the most useful spiritual tool you can get on Android "Got Questions" is another good one.
Kii Keyboard - Simply the best. If you know how to use the "Freedom" app, you can crack the in-app purchase to get the full version, not that I recommend it. I've used this since the beta in January (I think it was January) and it's simply gotten better and better. Swype couldn't lure me back.
Music - Omich Player is the best music player on Android, if you want to listen to music. There's apps with 50 different equalizers and a ton of crap I don't want, when I just want my music. This one does just that, using the older Play Music style. It also sports an option for a transparent background.
WifiKill - It kills Wifi. Kicks people off of the network using a simple, yet effective, ARP spoofing method. It literally takes a touch of a button. Great fun when in school or university, and you feel like messing with the teacher or

Flash it in CWM Recovery (You did install that, right?) and go to "Settings -> Storage" LOOK AT THE DIFFERENCE HEHE. Side note: If your SD Card is less than a Class 10, apps installed there won't run as fast as they would on the system. So if you truly have no need for extra memory, please don't do this with a bad SD card just for lulz ahaha

Thought it might be useful to start a thread over here to relieve some of the congestion & frustration from the one in the Dev section.
Here we, as users of BoneStock, can share and help each other without bothering a great developer with every detail. I wouldn't expect andybones to show up here at all. If it's something we can sort out we can then take it over to the Dev section to get his attention.
I'll start it off with a subject andybones has already disavowed himself of.....
I'm still on the stock kernel and looking for experiences with the one from ktoonsez. I had very good results with a later version (7/24?) when on JellyBeans but have seen others posting best results on the 7/7 build. Just looking for a bit more information/experiences before taking the plunge.

Not sure. All of the problems you are having are working great for me. I use hot spot everyday. I tried out the Ktoonz kernel yaesterday, the 8/4 I believe it was. Great at first but then had weird things start happening like icons on my home screen being blacked out, they were there but just a silhouette. Then random black boxes would appear in the background, like on the wallpaper. I could still see my icons. Anyone else have any issues similar to this? Went back to stock kernel and problems went away, and this was the first time I tried any Kernel besides stock.
Is there anyway to theme the status bar? I came from jelly beans ROM and loved be able to change my status bar color, battery etc. I know 3minit does this but not sure how that works on bonestock.

Why work when you can play with your phone?
OK, I decided nothing from nothing is, well....(and what are backups for?)....just flashed the 8/9 kernel and will run a while with the default settings - touching nothing - and see how it goes. My intention is to let it go for some time (overnight? a day?) and if all is well change a very small group settings, rinse and repeat. I'll report back.
If you do go the 7/7 route please let us know the results. Could be informative to compare.
Didn't take long. Came back to my phone & it had shut down. After booting it reported a couple of apps not installed - XDA being one. Recovered them from backup, reboot & now back up & going. Will see where it goes.

I don't think its possible without porting stuff
It's not easily possible since the keyboard requires LG framework, which current L doesn't have. The smartest thing to do is wait till we get the official 5.0 update.
I realize it will be released soon. Just tired of the current options. Really like that darn keyboard.
Once the lollipop comes out by lg I will TRY to upload

You can try this its the google keyboard with a number row (like the g3 keyboard) heres the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/lollipop-keyboard-phones-root-t2910268
Also I didn't make this

If you want the number row download the "123" verison.
Thanks for the heads up. I didn't find that link. With all the searching I did between Google and XDA, you figure I would.

Did this work for you? This is all I ended up with. I tried editing the build. Prop, with no success.
Well if that didn't work the lollipop 123 keyboard should work I use it everyday and I think there are themes for it.
I have tried it, didnt work for me thats why I stuck with the keyboard from above it works and has the number row(like lg keyboard) and if you find a blacked out theme then it could be LIKE the lg keyboard
---------- Post added at 01:15 PM ---------- Previous post was at 12:39 PM ----------
Here you go: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387785
These are a LOT of themed keyboards maybe one will come CLOSE I found some that did, but you might find one that is a little closer to what you want also if you pick the one with the numbered row and set the them to "Holo blue" its really close to the lg one. Other wise I don't think that that there is a port as of right now.

I'll try manually copying the libs over and see if that works. The files were successfully added to the build.prop.

Hi all,
LG just posted an updated Home launcher from the v30 on APKmirror, just download and install, doesn't need root, doesn't need anything.
It's the lg v30 launcher with app drawer.
Link: https://goo.gl/8FgSj5
Finally LG walking on the footsteps of Samsung, now we want the phone app, messaging app, etc ...
Don't forget to hit the thanks button.
Screenshots attached.
Just installed it. Works great. Thanks
Do the themes from LG World play nice with it even though its the V30 launcher on the V20?
Awesome fine. I like it myself. I do wish we could grab an update to messenger and email...

Thank you for this ROM. Like a very tiny selection of ROMs I've found this looks Russian. It is the fastest most overall fluid ROM I've ever tried in my MN2.
The only thing that does not work is 'additional buttons' in settings. Everything else is flawless.
I do not speak or read Russian but just followed the steps in the pictures lol.
Will try an send logcat about additional buttons' crash.
Otherwise this ROM is flawless an gets the best out of Mi Note 2 ?
I thank you an HIGHLY recommend this ROM.

Yes, I agree, rom is quite good, for button swap you can try an app called button remapper (free on play store)
