Does anyone have a problem with bluetooth with 8.1 ? My watches are always connecting, disconnecting.

Looks like nobody has problems with it. I dont use bluetooth so cant say something to it.
What i dont like with 8.1 Update is that the statusbar has a new limits to the left and right side, there is a gap of about 2-3mm where no icon can appear. This was made for displays with rounded corners, but HTC was too lazy to revert this change (hello htc, your u11 life has no rounded corners). But with gravitybox you can disable that and use the full statusbar like before.

Works fine for me, using BT with my Car Audio and did not have any issues so far.
Only thing I noticed is Tasker does not work as expected.

I have the phenomenon that only approx 250 of my 400 contacts sync with my Skoda Octavia. I'm using nine for my exchange account and sync them on phone to contacts app. I can use all contacts on phone but in address book on car I don't have all...

What i discovered just today in the morning is that the sot statistics are wrong on my device after the update to 8.1. I was working on my desk for a couple of hours and set the display timeout to 10 minutes and used it now and then just to make sure the display is allways on. After about 2 hours of usage (display was on all the time) the sot in the statistics only rised from 1h 30min (at the begining) to 1h 50min. The battery drained as usual about 20% in those two hours of light use with display allways on, only the sot in the settings are totaly wrong. Will be intresting to see if it will correct itself in the next days.
A very nice change is that the device isnt rebooting every two hours when gravitybox is installed, had that bug with every 8.0 release but with 8.1 its gone and everything is fine now.
Btw. Does 8.1 means that we are now getting the updates short after Google releases them?

I have also the same problem with my Garmin watch. No connect possible anymore.
Bluetooth car audio is working ok, as long i don't try to connect the watch. If the connection on the watch is turned on I get very short dropouts
with the bluetooth audio.

I've the same issue with my Garmin Vivoactive 3.
As a workaround, I need to uninstall the Garmin Connect, unpair my device, reinstall Garmin connect and pair my watch again... but it works only for a few hours... After the watch is out of range, the BT connection won't be reconnecting to the smartphone...
No issue with other Bluetooth devices (car audio or bluetooth speakers).
Did you contact Garmin already? Sounds more like they could help?

Update on my problem.
It looks like solved after the following steps.
System --> reset options --> WLAN, mobile data & Bluetooth
After reset this option all Bluetooth devices found and work.
I think it is a changed behavior in 8.1 as the Garmin watch don't show up as paired device but it is found with Garmin Connect and is in sync.
Looks a little bit strange

Not yet, but I will.
I have SD card issues with the 8.1.0 version.
My old QuickPic version can't move/copy files to the sd card anymore (deleting is fine).
Trying to crop a file will result in a 0 Byte file.
Same with SolidExplorer. Tried to copy a APK file to the SD card which resulted into a 0 Byte file.
Tried com.simplemobiletools.gallery same issues.
Even the android files app is behaving weird when doing stuff on the sd card.
Tried formatting the SD card and factory reset. Didn't help.
My other Phone with AOSP Extended 8.1.0 is fine with the same card.
HTC ****ed something really hard up for me.
Feels like the media storage goes ape**** when dealing with sd cards.

just checking, have you given the apps permission?
Yes. All apps I use ask to allow sd card access in the files app.
Like I said a file gets created but it shows 0 Bytes as size.
QuickPic sometimes can show the copied file while SolidExplorer can't.
I really feel like the media storage is broken (and yes I tried to delete it's data/cache and it didn't help).

The file is copied but for some reason 3rd party file explorers or applications are not able to read and open the file. I tried to copy a file from internal storage to SD card (pdf document) with Total Commander. TC showed the file with a size of 0 bytes and was not able to open it via Adobe Reader. Stock file explorer "File" (or "Dateien" how it's called in German) showed the file with the correct file size and Adobe Reader could open the file when it was called by stock file explorer. It does not matter if the file is copied with stock file explorer or with TC, TC always shows 0 bytes and stock file explorer reports the correct file size.
I verified the correct copy process by physically removing the SD card and inserting it into my PC. Windows Explorer reported correct file size and was able to open the file.
But when the the phone is connected via USB cable to my PC and file transfer is allowed, file size is reported with 0 bytes and file could not be opened.
To fix this temporarily, eject and then re-connect SD card via GUI of the phone. After this PC (connected via USB to phone) and Total Commander show the correct file size and are able to open the file. But if you copy new files the same issue occurs and you have again to eject and re-connect the SD card. I read about similar issues after the upgrade to 8.0 of Nokia and Xiami phones.
Perhaps Google just doesn't care about external storage as they don't support it on Pixel phones and HTC missed to fix this issue...
Glad and sad at the same time to hear that I'm not alone with this issue. Ejecting and mounting the card again indeed works. That strengthens my opinion that the media storage got broken with 8.1.0
June update didn't fixed it but I'm not surprised.
Kernel Build date is the 13 June.

hey guys, i can't say my transformer prime is perfect but its pretty close to it.
i can't seem to be able to have a consistent stable connection to any PC.
When im copying mp3/video files to the Prime, (not the SD card).. it locks up and freezes, if i wait 2-3 minutes, you'll hear the computer disconnect/reconnect sound.
I manage to get a couple wallpapers into the transformer, and that's it.
I've installed the Asus USB Drivers, and the Asus Sync. Nothing has worked. Not sure if its a driver related issue, or the prime itself.
Anyone transferring files without problems?
I had the same problem until I did a factory reset.
.... o god, unless i'm the only one with this issue..
apparently Music Folder / Picture folders are locked..
i tried deleting the pictures/sample music that came with the transformer prime and it didnt allow. I used a 16gb micro sd card, and file transfers were perfectly fine. Ended up creating a 2nd music folder, and all file transfers were completely fine.
im guessing they restricted music/picture folders?
ill do a factory reset like you did and see for myself.. can't stand garbage sample music/pics that are on the prime and i dont even use it, might as well save space
**edit.. well USB file transfers to the Prime is 10x slower than, USB transfers to MicroSD card INSIDE the prime..
any reason for this?
Try using ES File Explorer.
I've never connected my present TF101 nor any of my recent phones (Galaxy S, SII & Note) via USB for file transfer.

I had the exact same problem, so I finally created two new folders called "MP3" and "Photos" so I could have my pics and tunes transferred over by USB. I'm still working on deleting the other folders and renaming mine to those names, but it hasn't happened yet.
Just wanted to throw my .2 cents in here as well. I am having the same issue with the Music + Picture folder.
There is a thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1438864&highlight=pictures+folder where other people are having problems and other people aren't having any problems.
One guy said he did a factory reset and it fixed it... but I just installed all these apps and stuff.... I *just* got the damn thing I don't want to do a factory reset 4 hours after opening it. LoL

I plug the phone in and it opens the 'what do I want to do' screen and then closes it right away. And then just keeps doing this over and over every few seconds. Anyone else notice this?
I've had mixed results. Earlier today at work, on my Win7 machine, I plugged that bad boy up and it immediately found the phone and loaded the drivers. The phone then appeared in Windows Explorer as "EVO" and when clicked on, expanded to show the contents of the memory accessible to the user. There is about 10 gb free on my phone.
At home now, is a different story. I'm running XP Pro and can't seem to get the right drivers installed. I'm tinkering with it now but am not sure what to expect. I've also installed Airdroid, but haven't gotten around to trying it yet.
Update: Still no joy getting MTP to work, so I tried Airdroid and it works beautifully.
Try swapping the cable out. I've had similar results with a cable that would charge fine, but would give dodgy results when trying to use as a disk drive.

This worked for me. I'm using xp pro and it couldn't seem to find the phone with the HTC cable provided so i tried an old BB cable i had lying around and strangely enough it worked
Used the cable that came with it instead of my regular Evo cable and it worked fine. Weird.
did it to me too. I was plugging intop a usb hub. Once i plugged directly into the pc, the issue resolved itself. Dont use Hubs!

You should see a folder called sdcard. It's the name given to the 10 gigs or so available to us. If you have a physical sd card, I think it's call ext/sdcard or something like that. Anyway, there is a "ringtones" folder in the sdcard folder.
I think HTC stated that file mounting on the evo lte is different than the one x. If you wanna transfer files, im pretty sure you have to use HTC sync. If you have a memory card though, that should be able to mount as a removable device.
hope i helped
Hmmm. I see that in Astro but not when I plug it in
It seems like all I can do is select HTC Sync.

It's still a bug and should be reported. I plugged my 3D into the same cable on the same hub and it was able to dump the whole SD card over that connection, so there's something wrong with the E4GLTE if it can't handle the same setup.
I have a 32gb card and mounted as a disk drive just fine. HTC sync is for internal storage maybe?

It put it as /sdcard2 in my brothers phone
depending on how you're looking at it, it will either be listed as /sdcard2/ or as ext-sdcard
they both mean the same thing. the /sdcard/ by itself is internal.
any ringtones you want to put in need to be in a /ringtones/ folder, doesn't matter whether you make it in the internal or external available space
same thing goes for /alarms/ and /notifications/

You can put them on your sd card no problem. I transfered all my music over to my 32GB card on my computer last night and all was fine. Hooked up my 3D and also my LTE and just dragged the folders/files in windows explorer across the two drives fine...
Then to assign the ringtone that's on the extra sdcard(the one I put music on and didn't come with the device), all you have to do is when presented ringtone options click add and you should see the list of songs in there u added.....
Actually now I think of it, I went into HTC music player and got it to see the music before I did that too...
Also had google music sync up and download everything for offline use too but I don't think they showed up after I did that personally....though I could b wrong and its actually pulling the ringtone from my google music copy...

I see what you mean. I didn't see the 'Add' button at first. However that just seems to list ALL music on the device which is a bit of a pain due to the amount of music on my card. I ended up moving the ringtones to my SD card then just Astro to move them over to the internal storage. Not the quickest method, but seems to be better for keeping everything organized.

It's really dumb, but don't pick one of the two big choices at the top. Pick "Media Sync" in the smaller text options below those. As long as your pc is up to date, you should see "Evo" show up under my computer.
Hi all,
My O1 has a problem wherein some apps recognise the files present on the SD card and some don't. I'm going to eloborate the scenario below.
Well, firstly the current ROM i'm running is the latest MIUI by Zack, which i had installed yesterday night. But prior to that i was running the stable CM7.2 with the candied kernel by DjnoXD.
While i was running the CM7, i noticed that only PowerAmp was able to detect my music present in the microSD card. Apps such as GentleAlarm, JetAudio, Fusion Music player and the default music player wasn't able to detect any music on my phone. So i assumed that the microSD card has ran it's course, since it was more than 2+ years old.
So yesterday, i bought a SanDisk Ultra 16GB class 10 card, and I installed MIUI on it, and to my disappointment, MIUI player didn't detect any music player, same result with JetAudio, Fusion and GentleAlarm. Yet somehow PowerAmp magically is able to detect the music!
Now I'm sure this problem is not because of a faulty microSD card, Kernel or the ROM.
I hope i have provided enough information, If more is needed please inform me about it.
What could be the problem? I searched a lot before making this thread.
Regards,
CD
Edit: I'm facing a lot of signal loss recently... Could this be due to a damaged hardware? I did drop the phone a couple of times

I never liked Clockwork recovery or the ROM Manager, I use amonra recovery and MIUI doesn't have ROM Manager... Also i did check for the .nomedia file using root explorer, i didn't find it in the .nomedia file in the ringtones/alarm/music folders...
I feel my phone has a hardware damage as the signal keeps getting lost way too often after i dropped the phone... It wasn't a very steep fall, probably it fell on a delicate spot which i presume is located where the sd card and antenna is located(i.e., at the top of the phone)
Can this be fixed by servicing? My phone's out of warranty anyways... or do i buy another phone?
Does your sdcard work fine otherwise? Can you view pictures/documents or move apps to sd? If so, it looks like for some reason the phone is not scanning for music files and building it's music database. Why don't you try flashing another gingerbread or an ics rom to test?
Nothing is wrong with your phone. There can be many reasons for this problem.
Copy entire microsd card to your PC. Now delete all the useless folders created by so many music
players you used.. in the copied folder. Search for .nomedia in complete copied
folder.
Format your microsd card.. (fat32). Copy everything back. Done!!!
Dont do this if you dont have knowledge about which folders to keep and delete.
I recomend you to use only one music player at a time!!
> search for .nomedia files on folder and delete those.
Sent from my little fingers.. to your face using XDA app
I had deleted all the .nomedia files present... yet i had the problem. So I formatted my sd card again, created a 512 MB ext2 partition, a 64MB swap partition and the rest as FAT32 via the recovery.
I flashed the latest CM7 nightly and the default music player is able to recognise the files...
However randomly, the music apps keep scanning for media files and show 0 results... it's as if the sd card slot is loosly attached to the phone.
The signal keeps dropping often, and i'm sure it's not the network problem as i have an older nokia phone which has full signal... i mean at times, if ppl call my o1, i'm unreachable yet if the nokia is called at the same time, people are able to connect...
I suspect it's some hardware fault... Can it be fixed?

Cant be sure about your network problem. May be baseband not properly flashed.
Second.. go to network preferences and select Only Gsm or Only Wcdma. Not auto.
If you are using a2sd or link2sd.. Dont move the default music player to sd card.

A small piece of black electrical tape will quickly solve your problem.
Hi there, first time posting.
This is my first Android device (Phone runs Nokia N9) so I'm sort of going in blind with Android but I think I've picked things up for the most part easily enough.
I've got the 16gb edition rooted the device, mounted a couple of folders (massive collection on the marvel comic app) onto a Sandisk 64gb external SD. Those files seem to be fine.
I've found that if I try to save files straight to the external SD (showing as SDCard1 when I use rootbrowser) or I try to copy files from sdcard to sdcard1 using rootbrowser then those files just disappear.
Case in point: I used UTorrent to download a video, which would not play from the external card, however if I save it to SDCard it plays no problem. If I then try to copy said file to SDCard1 using rootbrowser it just disappears.
I've also noticed that certain files I save to SDcard1 disappear upon restarting the tablet.
Could this be a permissions issue? Does Android traditionally have trouble writing files to external SD cards?
Hopefully I have given enough info
Thanks
Thanks for the advice, I was looking for a way to disable it via software though as otherwise I would have to peel the tape off everytime I want to get notifications.

No Android otherwise doesn't have an issue with writing files to the external sd... This is a firmware bug I guess!

Another noobish question: I haven't figured how to (always) activate sync for my Google account. When I go to the account on Settings - Accounts - Google it says "Sync is OFF" and I can find no way to make the sync always being on. E.g. on my Galaxy Nexus that refresh symbol is always green and I get Gmail notifications instantly, I would love that on my XTZ. Can someone help me out?
Stealth edit: the settings in the top right of the screenshot just give me the option to "sync now".

Thank you for that hint, that also was what I originally thought and tried because that's how it would work on the Galaxy Nexus as well. But it appears that there are no checkboxes to check there, here, I'll add a screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/WE1sOWH.png
Any ideas?

Thanks mate, I just found the solution: I figured they might want me to settle that directly from the app and apparently I was right. I just went to Gmail - Settings - "my google adress" - Data usage and then I switched "Gmail sync is OFF" to "Gmail sync is ON". By doing that I hads to check a box called "Auto-sync data" and then, when I clicked my email adress, was linked to the settings page. Suddenly the checkboxes we were talking before appeared and all were checked and so far, they are still there and auto sync is working (green refresh symbol).
Edit: it still is very slow when syncing Gmail (it's not my connection, tested that). Anyone else got that issue?

I experience a similar dilemma which I solved by running the Gmail app and going into its settings for my email account and setting Sync Gmail to ON there, after which I went back to the tablet's Accounts settings for my Google email account and found sync was turned ON.
Okay, so I've gotten the external SD semi working, but very haphazardly. I've noticed that in root there are 3 directories containing the sd cards: storage, in root and mnt, as well as ext-card. Does it matter which of these I am copying files to?
just trying to get to the bottom of why copying from the internal to the external sd is causing me problems..

AFAIK, You have an internal SD Card, an external SD Card..
the ext-sd is showing because you may have partitioned the External SD Card :/
As far as I can see, it shouldn't be. I formatted it exFaT, and in each folder I only see sdcard and sdcard1, but they appear in the root, /storage AND /mnt in my file browser. I'm just wondering if it matters which of these directories I copy into. I seem to have confused myself on a fundamental level with this.
could also be the sd card....
Excuse the double post:
Turns out the card was a fake, which explains everything. I've gone and got a Samsung HX 64gb today, so problem solved!
The fake card was branded HC, which isn't even possible for a Sandisk apparently. You live and learn!

I will recommend you to Install AOKP or CM and Enjoy your awesome tablet
Hey there!
So I usually use the magnetic charger I have on my desk. Because of this I've found wireless media transfer to be very convenient.
However, its performance is rather poor and very inconsistent:
- Creating new folders makes it crash.
- Random dropouts.
- stuck in "Awaiting connection"
- The fact that you need to scroll like 3 menus to get there.
So I was wondering if anyone knows about a reliable app that does wireless file transferring (for both internal memory and SD card)?
Airdroid.
i use MiXplorer as my file manager. it allows setting up of your phone as an FTP server, which appears on my pc as a folder, from which i can drag/drop/copy files just like any other pc folder

Tried it, too funky, lots of bugs and files over 10mb require premium.

How do you configure it? I was unable to use it as an FTP server?
I use for every transfer from/to Phone WLAN FTP -> I use FileZilla! Fast an stable.
To build the FTP server on Phone I use Solid Explorer (old version - not 2.x) - Same File Mananger I use anyway.

Sure! Internal and external.
EDIT
I just tried this MiXplorer - And it seams that it has some problems with FTP, indeed.
In my short test I didn't make to show files which are in folders. So browsing through folders and file was not possible correctly. Don't know why.
I'll stay with Solid Explorer. Even if the UI (of 1.x version) is not looking very up-to-date. But there is also an 2.x with Material design.
WiFi File Transfer - using it for 2 years, works Always

Photosync, free on Android : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.touchbyte.photosync&hl=en
Bought iOS app when I had the iPhone, then kept using it, it syncs new media with a touch of a button, makes new folders etc.
with xender you can transfer anything you want between phones, or computer.. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.xender
Sent from my D5803 using Tapatalk
Also sshdroid for access to everything, even root
I'm using an old version of ES file explorer, back when it didn't have all that crap. Transfer is easy as a breeze between devices.
