Apps not resizing for "notch" - Honor 10 Questions & Answers

Hi All, I got my honor 10 yesterday and been happy with it so far and still exploring all the features.
As I start to transfer my apps from my old phone I noticed snapchat doesn't resize correctly with the notch along the top. So if you hide the notch, the snap chat menu still goes up so you can only see half the buttons (half on the screen, half off because the notch is blacked out.
With the notch on, you can see the buttons ok. I also noticed, if somebody has a long name or puts text along the top of their snapchat, the notch hides it. It appears to do this with the notch on or off and both in full screen mode and not.
Just wondering if anybody else has experienced it with any other apps and if there is a way round it. I personally prefer to have the notch disabled.
See picture, as you can see, the top buttons and hello message is cut off with the notch.

you should try updating the emui software, it helps with the notch (on instagram, haven't tried snapchat) using the on screen navigation buttons helps resizing as well

I am fully up to date. Upon further usage, I noticed it happens in other apps too. Instagram is actually a lot worse. It resizes length ways ok however not the correct size width ways. Most notably on stories so you can't see the first left and end right part. Looking online there's a lot of people complaining from Huawei and Samsung users (dating almost 3/4 months ago)
It appears to be an issue with the higher resolution android phones which app developers have been slow to fix. Hopefully, phone and app developers will come up with some kind of fix soon. Quite annoying as everything works flawlessly on iphones

Try changing the dpi on dev setting or play around with display view Setting for now until it get fixed

Doesn't work regardless of what combination of settings I have. Looks like there's a serious lack of compatibility with android devices at the higher resolutions. Annoying!

I have the exact same issue and I'm happy someone is discussing it, man I felt like I'm alone

I have noticed this same issue when using my Honor 10. I have not found a solution for it yet.

My Impression after 5 days

So I decided to write this little review to try talk about/point out/explain certain things that I thought other major reviewers (Engadget, The Verge, etc) didn't mention or didn't explain well enough, as well as things I do and don't like about the phone. (Don't let the Great Wall of Text scare you) Here goes!
The first thing I have to point out is how well this phone feels in your hand. I never want to put it down. Ever. That cold aluminum body feels amazing when you pick up the One and really drives home the flagship status of this phone. While this is great, I am terrified of dropping this phone. It feels like it would scratch very easily on a rough surface (I have yet to see a scratch, but I have been babying it until my case arrives). The aluminum feels very similar to the Macbook Pro case. While a lot of people are complaining about the false "zero gap" manufacturing, it virtually is zero gap. I have the slightest of space between the top aluminum strip on the front and the white band circumventing the phone. I would be hard pressed to fit even an eyelash in this gap, however. So far all intents and purposes, I think we can call it zero gap Anything larger than this, and I would consider returning it or waiting a few weeks for HTC to iron out the issue. Just ask to see the phone they give you before buying it and you can avoid this problem all together.
Sense 5 is a welcome upgrade and I don't miss CM 10.1 as much as I thought I would. My most missed feature is quick reply from the notification shade, but I'm living without it. This software flies through animations, opening apps, responding to input, scrolling, everything. Slick as oil. And the aesthetics of Sense 5 aren't too bad either. Not everything is rosy perfect though. Adding apps from the drawer to the homescreen is annoying. You have to tap and hold the app as you normally would. But then instead of transitioning to the home screen automatically so you can place the app somewhere, you have to first drag it all the way to the top left where it says "shortcut" and then it transitions to your homescreens. Gets old when you're setting up your home screen. Also, let's say you open an app by searching for it in your app drawer (not from the home screen). If you exit that app by hitting the home button, it does not send you home. Rather it sends you back to the notification drawer with all your apps. That's annoying. Pressing the back button also does not send you out of the notification drawer and to your homescreen like it normally does. You must hit home once again to enter your homescreen.
At first, I thought blink feed was gimicky. Just some marketing technique to set HTC apart in the consumer's mind. But after playing around with it, it has grown on me. The selection of news sources is small, but hopefully that will grow or allow you to add your own custom websites. I do find myself occasionally scrolling through it when waiting in line, the drive thru, waiting for someone, etc. Which was the original purpose anyway. I have not noticed a hit on battery life from this feature.
An annoying feature of the gallery is that in throws in all your Facebook Friend's photo albums into your gallery. Yes you read correctly. Jimmy Bob's recent Everglades field trip WILL show up in your gallery as well as other friend's albums. So far I have not figured out a way to remove this besides unlinking my phone from my facebook account (aka logging out of the app). While your photos have their own area/folder apart from these Facebook albums, it's still annoying to see the faces of people I never talk to in my own gallery.
Now onto the camera. There is definitely some truth behind the "UltraPixel" marketing. Compared to an iPhone 5 and Note 2, the One most definitely takes better pictures in low light settings. Even in extremely dark settings (night time with some light filtering in through closed blinds), the One is able to make out rough pictures, something the iPhone and Note 2 could not do at all. While the One is able to take pictures in very low light, this does not mean the pictures come out amazing or noiseless. Don't expect to just run out into the pitch black night and be able to photograph anything. In very low light settings, the pictures are still grainy and sometimes crappy. But most definitely better than the two phones mentioned already. All these comparisons were done with the flash off. Even with the flash on, the One still managed better photos in my opinion. They looked more natural and less like the came from a camera phone. Slightly lower than ideal lighting is where the One is able to shine. The other phone's flashes sometimes washed out or harshly lit up the scene while the One didn't even use the flash and took a great photo. Can't wait to use it more.
Zoes are pretty cool, another feature I initially thought was gimicky. The short clips appear as normal photos in your gallery, but then begin to randomly play like the photos in a Harry Potter movie. Looks pretty cool in person. A feature I haven't been able to try out is the "Event" categorizing of my photos. Basically the phone looks at the time and location where you took pictures, and tries to group them into "events". Think of these as different albums in your gallery. When you open an event, at the top there will be a highlights reel: basically a slideshow of your photos, zoes and perhaps videos (not 100% sure about the videos). It adds music, transitions, Instagram-esque filters and automatically starts playing. Watching your whole photo gallery come to life is pretty cool.
Other tid bits: there's a permanent power saver notification in your notification dropdown. Always there no matter what. There's an app that lets you remove it if you're rooted however (the app is somewhere in these forums). The front facing camera is a big upgrade from the HOXL one. Did I mention how amazing this phone feels? Finally, 32GB on an HTC flagship. 24.4GB available to you. Although the camera lens is slightly slightly slightly recessed, I still feel it can get scratched.
In the end, this is definitely the best Android phone I have handled and used (yes, including the S4 yes I said it). And I used to work in Best Buy Mobile until very recently, so I have handled my fair share of smartphones. I would highly recommend this phone to anyone and everyone.
Well this turned out a lot longer than I anticipated. Hope this shines some light on the One from the perspective of an everyday owner. Let me know if you have any questions!
TL;DR. Read it! This took [email protected]#$ing forever to type.
Congrats on getting away from Best Buy!
are we going to have one of these at 15 days 30 days etc etc ?
Great review! I would like to point out though that you can get rid of the power saver notification by long pressing it, going to app info, and force stopping it. It reappears when your battery gets low since it automatically turns on, but you can avoid looking at it most of the day!

Excellent review. I've had it 4 days and I guess I haven't opened my gallery since linking my Facebook account, cause that annoyance was new to me... Thanks for pointing it out!
One other thing that I feel isn't getting the attention it deserves is the addition of IR. I haven't had IR in a smartphone since my Treo, and I missed it. The first thing I did when I got my One was setup all my TV's/Receivers to be controlled by my phone.

Thanks for this tidbit.. It would be nice if the "show notifications" option allowed you to select/deselect...
The chassis is zero gap. the speaker covers are add-ons to the chassis.
To add apps, widgets and shortcuts to your screens long press any blank area for your home screens and the popup will allow you to select said icons to which ever screen you want by highlighting it with a tap 1st. It will put the icon in the first available space starting from the top left but you can then move it.
I haven't setup Facebook yet but I have read there is a setting in the gallery to un-check this option. *Edit* My bad. The only way to stop pic syncing from Facebook is by not allowing Facebook to sync in the 1st place. Not an ideal solution but all there is atm.

Lastly, with pics/camera. Set sharpness to -1 and there will be much less post processing. (Credit hamdir) I think you'll like the pics even more!
Hope this helps.
Thanks!! it was helpful.
Yeah I haven't had a chance to test out the IR but I've heard its pretty cool. But it may not work on cases that cover the button and I wish they allowed you to hit "hide notifications" it almost looks like they went our of their way to block that setting lol

If you long press on the 'Power Saver' notification and go to App Info, you can force close that app. Then the notification will no longer be there. Each time the phone reboots, you'll see it and need to do it again, but I did it once and haven't had to reboot for any reason. Notification Gone!

Lollipop on ZU- what am I missing?

Got the OTA update to L on my 6833. Yes, it has made the already smooth animation slightly smoother but otherwise what is there? The power widgets are gone, I had to install third party Power Toggles app. The new notification swipe down is annoying, having to swipe up when waking device is annoying. The status bar colors are inconsistent. The menus look childish looking.
Without being dramatic, did Sony take all this time to make sure it ran without crashing? Because I notice very few changes (not even improvements, just any changes) on the UI. I must be missing something.
more than that:
can only set one volume at a time.
either portrait or auto, you can't force landscape like in KK.
animations are fluid, but the functionality isn't. My opinion is, if the device has extra power that it can use to make things animate, slide and fade all over the place, better to put that extra power into making the device perform faster. Anyone here who prefers prettier animations instead of faster functionality?
low resolution screenshots in the recents screen. wat. Seriously... wat? Also, the way they've made it it is faster to just go to the apps screen and open whatever app i want, instead of waiting for the recents screen to load and then scroll awkwardly through the programs... Also, you can only see three recent apps. On a device with 6" of screen. three. think about it.
Also... what is the point of having screenshots, anyway? icons are faster, easier to distinguish, take fewer resources and smaller area on screen.
I agree fully on the recent apps screenshots. The blurry images are embarrassing and don't at all go with the clean/sharp theme of everything else. I don't understand why they've made it low res, can't be for performance given no restraint or need anywhere else. Bizarre!
There is over-prettying. For example, the stupid screen swipe up to unlock (after hitting the power button already), the sparkles are just so unnecessary, it is one of the few places the phone actually seems to struggle pulling off the effect.
At the moment my biggest problem is with Yahoo Mail. The account does not seem to auto-sync despite all the settings being correct and even when I force the sync manually the notifications don't show. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, most likely Yahoo to blame, their webmail is always breaking but never ever had a single issue before with KK. This is problematic because it is effectively no longer push email, I have to manually check 50 times a day.
My biggest annoyance is the inability to reclaim the Google search bar area in the Home Screen. I don't want that search button, why can't I use that space, and why a stupid dot to represent the pages of the Homescreen when I only have 1.
Is there actually anything different/new on the backend? My issues aren't severe enough to go back to KK (yet) but seeing what I see, I would have no problem whatsoever buying an Xperia Sony will not upgrade beyond KK.

I agree with you about small changes. I even face some strange problems in my WiFi. the mac address haven't change, but I can't connect to my work WiFi protected network. Sometimes it connects in limited status. One of my friends which updated his Ultra has this problem too.I could connect it to my laptop adhoc wifi netwrok, but for one time. it even can't connect to that network anymore. I rolled back to my stock 14.4.A.0.133 backup. and a'm waiting to fixes from sony.
Agree with you guys. And that stock greenish blueish greyish statusbar color pisses me off! Anybody knows how to change that color?
Quite pathetic attempt by a mod to bury this thread by moving it to this section. If negative feedback on L bothers you so much, delete the thread and censor it outright. Sad day for xda.

How to prevent burn in

I use my phone very often throughout the day, flash ROMs. The usual with such device as many of you know. To cut to the chase the navbar is almost always lit. So there is a likely hood of the navbar burning in, or the status bar.
More important things will be bolded, and the most important bolded and underlined
1. Go to Settings => Display => Set sleep to the lowest time that will work for you, the lowest - 15 seconds - is the best for your screen.
2. You can turn on inverted colors, this will turn the largely white UI to black. Although this will not look very aesthetically pleasing. It will reduce the burn in probability. - Not desirable I know
3. Change your wallpaper to a solid black color, I don't do this personally. But it does reduce the risk. You can also go for Black and gray wallpapers - you can find very good looking ones - but it won't be as great as just the black wallpaper.
4. Keep your brightness low, this keeps the diodes - pixels - from being at full brightness the entire time. Which lengthens their life span.
5. Change your theme to a black theme, or dark. As this will also help. You can change your keyboard to black from the Google Keyboard app. If you want a absolute black background on a keyboard, use the wallpaper from #3 after hitting "my image" under theme.
6. After extensive use, run a Burn in fixer even if you don't see the affects of burn in. As it changes the pixels that stayed the same for a long period of time. These work by flashing a variety of colors on your screen in semi-rapid succession. Which can also undo some minor burn in. The one I use is here (playstore link) . Run this for around 5-10 minutes before you go to sleep for example, or while you're doing something on your computer.
Hope this helps! This is what I use and I haven't yet gotten burn in on my Nexus 6P after extensive use day to day.
I've never had a problem with burn in on any OLED phone I've had and I've had many.
The most important thing for power savings is a dark theme.
Also, no burn in on my devices, but use a dark wallpaper, theme, etc....
This thread is pure dumbness...it's almost imposible to burn an amoled screen unless it remains lit and static one whole day...normal use will never burn the screen.
Enviado desde mi Nexus 6P mediante Tapatalk
Only poor quality OLED panels exhibit burn in. Except if you display a static image at full brightness for days non stop, something that doesn't happen in normal usage. If you are so paranoid then never buy an amoled phone. It's the same with the silly "battery friendly" battery tips for charging and quick charging. Use your phone like normal. This is why you bought it. It's a device that's built to last only few years and you will change it before major problems arise. That unless you have a very crappy made device.
My Nexus 6p has burn in, I can see the navigation and status bars burnt into the top and bottom. I attribute it to using navigation on long trips and Pokemon Go always needing the screen on. Just started noting it in the last month (got it in the initial preorders).
The app says its for LCD..?
My device has burn on the top and bottom of the screen pretty badly actually and I have the navigation bars hide them selves. I think the screen degrading.
Mines has burn on top and bottom

This has always been a minor concern with any smart phone I've had, but can't say it's ever happened to me. I did however find a much better way to prevent this that works flawlessly on my [rooted] Nexus 6P. In one of the last few major android versions we got immersive mode (L methinks?), but it's not always accessible depending on phone/manufacturer (haven't seen an option on a stock ROM yet). I use Tasker to run root shell commands from notifications and found the following command a while back (source stack overflow or similar answer site via Google):
settings put global policy_control immersive.full=*
This will toggle full immersive mode. It persists across reboots and fits me perfectly as I enjoy the extra screen estate and I can just swipe from top/bottom to get those bars. Basically makes it like you are always in video mode. This only has to be run once, but I have a companion command to disable just in case:
settings put global policy_control null*
I figure if my normal apps are putting different designs and colors in those areas, I shouldn't have to ever worry about pixel burn in. Plus it's way better than crippling a devices usability with color inversion.

That is not true. All OLED panels exhibit "burn in", it's the nature of the technology. It's not really burning in though but rather "burning out".
That being said, burn in during normal usage is very unlikely and pretty much impossible unless you use apps that keep the screen on with static picture or UI elements. The only thing that WILL "burn in " on any device, and is just a matter of time, is the status bar and nav bar. But they are both there almost always anyway so you won't even see it unless you decide to switch to pie controls down the road and turn the nav bar off.
As for OP, using a full black wallpaper would actually INCREASE chances of burn in but you don't spend that much time on homescreen for it to matter. Running any burn in "fixers" is absolutely unnecessary and is very unlikely to help once the pixels on your display do degrade unevenly. Basically the only thing you need to do to prevent it is to use common sense. Don't use higher brightness than necessary and don't (over)use apps that leave the screen on with static picture.

LMT launcher is your friend. Swiping up just to reveal the nav bar is too much of a hassle. With pie controls you can navigate with just one continuos swipe and you can configure it in any way you want. At first I did this to get back the screen space wasted by navbar but I've realized navigation is actually better than with the nav bar itself. It's also easier to do one handed because it can not only be activated from the bottom but from the sides as well. I urge anyone who dislikes the nav bar to try it. Works flawlessly and for those concerned, it prevents burn in as well.

I actually ran across LMT and used it before I found immersive mode. Extremely robust and customizable. However I use the swipe kinda like a "confirmation" that I want to navigate away. The swipe up and tap is almost second nature now

General Notifications not working properly

Since getting my Pixel 6 I've noticed that notifications, in every way are absolutely horrible on this phone. So far I'm chalking it up to Android 12 (which I hate the interface of BTW, I can't wait for a custom ROM to fix this mess that Google gave us). From low notification volume (even if the volume is turned up) to not receiving notifications, to the notifications not synching to my Fitbit (which I had 0 issues with on my ROM'ed OP6) I seem to have a lot of issues with this Pixel 6. It is not rooted, just some standard apps installed, including aodNotify.
Also, does anyone else have the issue of when you swipe up and hold to go to the recent apps, it just shows you a zoomed out home screen and you can't swipe right to see recent apps? So no way to switch between apps or close them...very annoying.
Anyone else having issues with not receiving notifications or texts at all? I just had my girlfriend tell me she sent me a message, but I never go it at all. It would have been a basic SMS from her iPhone, and we're both on Mint Mobile (T-Mobile MVNO) in a major city in the US with 5G.
Notification work fine.
I would first look at aolNotify which clearly effects the notification system and is in beta testing.

I just uninstalled it, let's see if that helps, good call. I was just thinking if it's an aodNotify issue surely other people would be talking about it :\
I guess I'm just having a ton of different issues since being on this phone, that I'm eagerly awaiting TWRP and ROMs to come out.
Any news on TWRP? I had pretty much written it off, but I guess they are still working on getting A11 support. I think they had a working version for the Pixel 3a series that was released (beta testing) in the last month or two. I never bothered to try it because A12 was right around the corner.

Same here using the navbar but it only happens every once in a while, no idea why.
I find notifications to be very low indeed and some of them (like email) are delayed. Not sure if we should blame this horrible A12 (yes I also absolutely HATE it) or the device

No news as of yet, that I know of. But now that there's a working root and the firmware and kernel is released, I would imagine it is being worked on, or at least I hope it is. Just as custom ROMs, as I am hoping to run Lineage or CalyxOS once available.

Good to know it's less common using navigation buttons. I just switched back from gesture (I was trying to get used to it and adopt the new way of life lol, but guess not - back to the same old buttons it is!) and I have already noticed that the recent app menu has been working much better.

Yes, notifications have also been delayed at times as well I've noticed. I doubt it's the device, as hardware is hardware, and apps open/close quick and smoothly, browsing the web is no issue, as is scrolling on apps like Instagram in my experience. Though with this being the only phone (P6/P6P) with A12 so far, I guess time will tell if it's a device issue or Android issue. I still feel like it's a P6 ROM issue, and hopefully ROMs will come soon to resolve issues like this.
Just as an update, since uninstalling aodNotify and switching to navigation buttons instead of gestures my notifications have been better and my recents list showing has been more reliable. It's still a bit laggy when loading recent apps, but at least it's working more often now
One weird thing I've noticed with the notifications is when I swipe down on the status bar and tap the triangle to expand the notification, the window stays small but I can scroll the entire notification within it. I'll try to get a screenshot the next time it happens.
That's not normal and not what I am experiencing. A reboot doesn't clear it up? If not. it may be that you'll need to do a factory reset just to clear out whatever the issue is.
Ugh, I hope I don't need a factory reset. I had enough trouble getting my eSIM setup on Fi already. I haven't experienced the notification issue again, so fingers crossed, wood knocked, etc.

Question Android 12 App Switching is terrible

App switching screen on Android 12 is pretty bad. So easy to make mistakes, always unintentionally swiping down or up. I haven't used Android 11, not sure if they are same . Came from iOS.
I came from an lg v20 with android 8 on it and i prefer how it was done on there but with the new app switcher screen I have to say I love the easy screenshot, url sharing, and text selection on screens that are otherwise not text selectable so I guess that makes up for it.
What i dont like is the screen isnt very responsive to touch with my tempered glass screen protector unless I force 90hz in developer options. Speakers sound like crap compared to my v20 , and of course no easily removable battery, no microsd slot, no headphone jack and no ir remote sucks too but as far as I know there isnt a single good flagship phone out there that still has all those.
I only bought a new phone because the v20 became unbearably slow and good new batteries are hard to come by anymore, I also need it for developing AR apps.

By default, they use a bunch of hideous gestures.
Go into System Settings --> Accessibility --> System controls, and change "System navigation" to "3-button navigation". That will give you three nice buttons on the bottom edge of the screen... back, home, and task switcher.

Checked this out too, but you get the ancient Android 7-or-8 like buttons. Much rather see the Pixel 3's buttons placed on the bottom.
Although the gestures are a bit finicky, it took me a while to get used to, but now I've got it under control.
Its not about "ancient", its about EFFECTIVE. The 3-button menu bar is the only option that has ever existed that doesn't involve indecypherable/inconvenient gestures.

Call the police! They may require SIM card tracking from the operator! Or by IMEI of the device!

I'm 99.99% positive that you replied to some kind of scammer. They created a profile to report this on a random forum? I reported the user, if there is any legitimacy, forum admin can sort that out and deal with it.

Welcome to 2021! Phones haven't had removable batteries for a while now...
dunno how your triggering app switching when swiping up and down considering you need to swipe from bottom of screen and hold it for a good second
basic gestures hard
