any development for this blazing fast device??
this phone needs more attention !!!
I will be waiting for any custom rom or ui upgrades
A Global Rom would be nice first.
I really want this phone, but not without my language
The software is the only downside of this device. I'd love to see official lineage OS support for this device, but it seems abandoned even from xiaomi itself.

Yep, they call it stillbirth.
I still see potential in this device, so I'm not giving up yet.
The problem is that black shark became a separate subbrand from Xiaomi for it's gaming devices with their own software and releases, so we might even never get MIUI.
JOYIU it's a big sheet, and Xiaomi and MIUI devs do not want to do nothing with rom...
I buyed it at 600€.... money to the trash.
Im planning to buy the Phone but when im reading all this im not really sure.
What is so bad on JoyUI? (isnt it just a Skin?)
On Gearbest u can buy a global Version now. Anybody knows the differnces? Or is it just the Multilanguage?
I cant imagine xioami let die this great device so early...
I'm in China at the moment and have had my eye on this phone for a while now. But reading through the comments and seeing the non-existent development around this phone, I think I've changed my mind. Plus the camera reviews are pretty bad too - between the slow software development, comments above and iffy upgrades, it's probably a better idea to give this one a pass and go for a OP6 or other 845 based phone.
They should be able to run PUBG at full graphics anyway.
I bought one and had it shipped to the US from China. Just took the verizon sim out of my old phone and put it in. After installing all the google stuff I havnt really had any problems. Only complaint I would have would be that the phone doesnt get the best reception and texts can sometimes be pretty delayed, even in an area I know verizon has full service. Any one else experiencing the same issues or not what causes it?
Last update with android 8.1 its better , and now not have crashes, its seen stable but I need to use an other Launcher, cause Joyui can't resize and can't edit how rows and any things else.
But the other of this new ROM its perfect.

Good afternoon
Firstly I purchased my device through o2 which is a phone company in the UK. I though since my phone is a nexus phone my phone would automatically qualify for updates from Google without the network testing then before release. How wrong was I.
I just spoke with someone from o2 who confirmed that the software is being tested before realise meaning the carrier has control of the updates and they are not coming straight from Google. Screens below
I'm guessing this will be the same for any phone purchased through a carrier in the UK. Guess il be flashing a stock from later
I don't bother waiting for ota, get to the factory image Google webpage and download them. I have only ever taken a handful of ota updates on my nexus and always tend to fast boot the new imgs. That way you are in control of your own updates from google

Just an unlocked bootloader. You can relock it after installing the update.

would OTA work as of normal from then?
I just think he does not know what he is talking about. It's really annoying how misinformed people are in call centres etc...
Since all phones are bloatwared by o2 he does not realise that Nexus is different.
I highly doubt o2 is testing software for nexuses. I think we would have different biuld numbers in first place.
Well, I got mine from CPW on EE and didn't have any ota yet but as I said its hard for me to believe that it has anything to do with EE.

Never listen to live chat agents they haven't a clue what they're talking about GSM Carriers have no say or word on Nexus devices. If carriers had control over updates for your device they'd add their bloatware and company splash screen like they usually do.

I didn't get an update when I setup the phone with my VZW sim. I did get the update when I left it out and setup via WiFi.
I too would have thought that the live chat person is just saying the normal stuff about phone updates as if we had a Samsung phone for example and does not realise the difference in Nexus updates. But the fact there has been updates published and every time I check system update it says I am up to date I am starting to get suspicious that something is going on.

first up, take out the sim (or put into airplane) and then try it on wifi only (as someone said above worked for them). Second, you asked if it was being tested by Google rather than by O2 (pic 2).... the rep was actually right(!) in that it's not being tested by O2.

It's Googles stupid POS Staged Rollout system that everyone on Android uses that's the cause here. why they need a staged rollout for security updates boggles me.

Those were the days ? not missing my LG Optimus 2X/P990 though, worked fine although the Nvidia Tegra 2 chipset rather quickly lost support from the maker ?
Back to the thread starters problem, most probably your finger sensor has been exposed to moisture which seems to be this phones Akilles heel, causing home button/fingerprint scanner to go up in smoke. Sometimes it fixes itself with time, and sometimes not. There's a lot of hocus pocus "fixes" for it because of that, going all the way back to KitKat which for sure does not support fingerprint scanner is one of the best. Luckily there's no KitKat or IceCreamSandwich for this phone ?
Proper solution is to replace the front/home button module and hope for the best that it's not as sensitive to moisture as the old module. And yes, this is a design failure from OnePlus, it should have been better protected from water/moisture since the button is easily exposed to both wet fingers and rain.

No, AFAIK there are no KK roms for OP2 and even if there was, someone would have to implement FPS in that KK rom which would not be very easy to do..
Better go to your nearest service center and get the front panel replaced..

So I recently bought two Le Max 2 X829's from Banggood for $196 each and didn't find out about the fingerprint sensor problem until after... I haven't received them yet, but I would like to know what solutions have you guys been offered when you contact your sellers.
I haven't had any problems with Banggood or their customer service. When something I buy is defective, I just email them directly, with a description of the defect, pictures and a YouTube video too if possible, and I make sure to tell them that I have already troubleshooted, checked the forums, and tell them that the defect is common so that they don't give me the run around. They usually go straight to offering me replacement parts for free, or a partial refund if the device still "works" and can be fixed by me, or simply a return label if I insist that I want to return it.
Chime in...
Nothings, its too expenisve to send it back to China. I just resell them here in the Netherlands, you will easily get your money back.

Why don't you just stop talking about things you don't know anything about!?! I guess you haven't read only one post in fingerprint issue thread. Otherwise you wouldn't write something like this.
Just search for my posts inside the main fingerprint issue thread to get yourself some information about what you are claiming to know.

I've read through several of the threads and it was a massive waste of time. The forum for the Le Max 2 is pretty disorganized, there's very little moderation, and no consensus can be drawn as far as solving the fingerprint sensor problem is concerned. Just a bunch of inexperienced people rambling and contradicting each other.
I have plenty of experience and two Le Max 2's on the way, so I'll draw up some tests and make an objective observation when I receive them.
With the unorganized and inexperienced points you are absolutely right. That's why I give up on explaining to many people how to solve the problem. Me and my girlfriend are both running Le Max 2 with madmax rom for long time now. In the beginning my device had a totally dead fingerprint scanner. After some research, trying few settings and stuff I was able to break it down to Qualcomm drivers/firmware.
In German board we were able to get most of the phones FP running again. (Experienced users phones).
Nearly all devices with Dead FP's are running on old couco 92 rom.
If you're facing issues after receiving the phones flash another room ( stock Chinese or custom based stock from the forum) and try to follow the instructions i wrote in the fingerprint section...
That's said, my girlfriend and I have the x820 version.
Give it a shot and you will see the point of the problem and how to solve it...

I have x829 and changing roms, modems, unbrick method, haven't worked in bringing FP back to life. So it may be mixed, in my case seems like hardware issue.

Nope, i tried that but fp still not working.
I flash several rom from 16s to 20s cn, 23s cn and 19s india, also 3 cusrom such rr. On each rom i tried to flash several modem firmware, 16s usa, 19s india, 23s cn and finaly latest dev version from yadi.sk/xxxxx..
So i guess you just lucky.. ?
On my case fp work only several hour since unboxing. Now it cant recognize any fp when i tried to register it. But the weird part is sometime it kinda work for taking pictures using camera. I said kinda because it works 50% of the time, when working i touch once but the camera is taking 4 or 5 pictures.

I flashed the Indian 19s firmware last night and the finger print scanner is working back now, though it is a bit slow (not as fast as Redmi Note 3 ), but it works 100% of the times. The only thing abnormal I have done is that I have scanned my finger twice ( same finger).
Previously I tried all tricks with LOS and Mokee and could not get the Finger Print scanner to work.

The problem i had before was that the FP sensor did not respond when trying to unlock i.e. looks like it was OFF. Previously even if you left the finger on the sensor for 10 seconds i did not react at all. The only cases when the FP reader worked was immediately after locking. Also the sensor did not have any problem adding fingerprints.
Just got my new Honor 8X Max in the mail and it's the chinese version (I'm living in Europe). The model number is ARE-AL00. I got the GMS installer and the Google Installer v2 and now I can open the play store, but I can't use it to install or uninstall apps, it just gets stuck on the "(un)installing" screen. When I try to install the Play store from a separate apk I usually get a program which I can't even open. And I've tried this with and without the software update. If anyone has got the Play store working on this phone I'd love to know how you did it.
Overall I'm pretty upset with this phone. I didn't realize I was getting the Chinese version and of course it comes with all kinds of censorship and ability restrictions, I spend like 10 hours trying to figure out how to root it and it turns out Huawei decided to make unlocking the bootloader impossible only a few months ago and funkyhuawei (with their insane prices) can't even do anything for a Qualcomm chipset so I'm S.O.L. I don't think the Chinese company I bought from will give a refund after the box is opened so I'm basically out my $300 if I want another phone. I was excited to be getting such great hardware for such a low price but the lack of functionality and customizability makes it a complete waste.

Same situation here, here is what I did to get Play Store works on my Honor 8X :
- Turn on the "Authorize unknown source apps install thing"
- Install GMS installer to get the Play Store works
- Install Gboard to get rid of the chinese keyboard everywhere.
But still, I'm searching for the Global Firmware and according to a Honor / Huawei Customer Agent, they do not allow firmware downloads anymore.
Hope this can help other people in the same case...

But still, I'm searching for the Global Firmware and according to a Honor / Huawei Customer Agent, they do not allow firmware downloads anymore.
Hope this can help other people in the same case...

Thanks a lot for the help. My more-tech-savvy friend encouraged me to use F-droid and Yalp and that has been working fine so I'm going to give that a try before insisting on getting Google back...I emailed Huawei customer support about unlocking the bootloader and received an interesting response:
"We kindly inform you that in order to achieve a better user experience, Huawei has decided to terminate the unlock code application service. If your device is already rooted, we inform you that it no longer counts with warranty or device support.
Also, Huawei USA does not provide codes to unlock the bootloader under any circumstance. We kindly inform you that this action can potentially "brick" the device or in other words, renders the device completely unusable and voids the warranty service and device support. We have no control over how unlocking the bootloader will affect your device."
I'm emailed Huawei USA just cause I'm American (living in Sweden though), but this response suggests that maybe if I email Huawei Sweden or China that they will give me one? Gonna give it a try and see what happens.
Also my original post may have been a bit reflexive, I need to give this phone a chance. I remember thinking my last phone (Galaxy S5) was pretty stupid for a few weeks, I eventually just got over it.

Yes the camera is good quality from what I can tell and the battery life is great. But it is a huge phone, if you don't want something so big then you should probably get the 8X instead of the 8X Max.

This is my very own guide on how to download Play Store on Honor 8X: https://www.oscrunch.com/2018/11/17/google-play-store-on-honor-8x-and-8x-max/
I guess you will have to use a different version of GMS installer. Also, this process requires you to install one more application.
Try this and let me know how it goes. It should work perfectly fine.

Yes, you nailed It!
Speaking for myself, I can say that Today I'm a happy owner of a Chinese Honor 8X, but in the past I was in trouble because I was not able to find the *right* version of GSM installer that fits to me (JSN-AL00a).
It was hard to clear all those Chinese apps from my device, but now I have a very strong phone with a high level of performance.

That's my pleasure Glad that this guide has helped.
I had issue on installing Google play. Package installer block me from installing gmsinstaller.apk. what you do to get around it is thru adb. Make sure that you turn off "monitor app install by adb" in developer option or it won't work. If you need more detail let me know.
Hi
Now my honor 8x max has all Google App work fine
Thx dude

I would love more details about how you solved that please @vietzero. I am also blocked from executing the first apk (on both my 8X and 8X Max).
Cheers!

Try this
1.Tap 7-8 times on build number it will enable developers option
2.Go to developers options
3.Enable USB debugging
4.Disable Monitor apps installed by ADB
5. use adb install -r MyApp.apk
your apk will be installed.
Thanks @miststudent2011
I eventually managed to get Google Play installed and working (thanks UsamaM). Please see my steps on that page: https://www.oscrunch.com/2018/11/17/google-play-store-on-honor-8x-and-8x-max/#comment-65

Some one help me why my phone is failed to verification honor 8x max
I have a mate 20 pro, L29 version. For whatever reason I still have not gotten to Android 10 update. I've tried everything from changing my region and the Hicare app to even reformatting my phone and seeing if I could get the update right away.
Anybody have any ideas how I can force the update to my phone? I live in the US and don't have access to anything like a Chinese SIM card.
I think stay on Emui 9.1! Much nicer and better! Believe me, Android 10 is for the visually impaired!

I have the same issue, almost everyone I know who owns a mate 20 even p20 Pro received emiu 10 update.
Except for me
Same issue
I have the same problem, bought mate 20 pro from Amazon. I still have emui 9.0.
Tried VPNs, called Support but no solution.
They say get a Chinese sim.
If you get a solution please do post it. I am trying if I get something I'll do the same
I changed my country in the hicare app to either uk or china, but when i did I checked for an update through the hicare app and there was emui 10. I then went to the system update to check for updates and there was nothing there. I downloaded through hicare app and upgraded. I have LYA-L29(C432)

That's a little offensive as I am visually impaired. The dark mode is a lot better on my eyes instead of blinding light and I am greatful that Huawei and especially Google have recognized this and are taking steps to help handicapped people such as myself. Think before you speak and especially before you post for all the world to see!!
Why is it offensive? 9.1 also has dark mode on! Should pay a little attention !!!

I'm not into childish games. Think before you post something that might be offensive to someone.
