Very basic, no animations, nothing fancy. It works on H918 but I don't see why it wouldn't work on other variants or any QHD, 2560x1440 phones. Place zip files in system/media. Permissions set to rw-r-r or 644 for each file. Image attached if zip files don't work for your variant/phone.

I don't see why not. Just make sure you have the right resolution.
Doesn't just deleting or adding .bak to the stock boot animation render the same outcome? It's what I've done on pretty much every android device I've owned since 2010ish

I've yet to experience any bootloop issues doing it. The original galaxy s/sidekick 4g/epic 4g touch would just go backlit black screen until it went into the homescreen. I think that android logo has kinda been the default impromptu boot screen since ics. Nice thing about your way tho is the ability to customize the colors. I would love a holo blue android boot animation but I suck at making them. I've had one zip I've ever made actually boot lol

Hi, simple question and im sure u have heard it a lot
I recently did the whole xrecovery thing and have successful made
a nandroid backup, whoohoo.
Now im trying a simple thing like installing a custom boot animation.
So first i see a animation here on xda tht i like, make sure its for fimware/build number
2.1/2.1.A.0.435 , then download the .zip file. I picked this one:
http://www.4shared.com/file/BJrGIdCY/bootanimation.html
Then place it in the folder i made for boot animations.
Then go in recovery mode and go to "install custom zip",
Select the zip file and confirm installation.
The only thing is, when i then reboot, the stock animation is still there.
AM I DOING SOMETHING WRONG?????
That's not a flashable zip. You have to use root explorer and replace the existing bootanimation.zip located at /system/media or /local/media can't remember exactly since it has been a while. Check this link:

Cool, thx tht works. I can now switch between stock ani and custom ani.
However the two diffrent custom ani i tried, both dont look like they should, all tht comes up on screen after white sony ericsson writing is a blue-ish, geen android word, with a light flashing over it.
The one i want to install is an angry penguin with a gun who shoots holes in the screen.
Suppose im getting closer, smh???

Don't worry about it. At least you know how to do it now and it's just a matter of getting the correct zip. Google XDA BOOT ANIMATION X10 and you should see quite a few xda threads. Happy hunting!!

This means that it didn't work. This is the stock android boot animation. Even if you delete bootanimation.zip it will show this anim. You most probably did not set correct permission. You need to copy the bootanimation.zip to /system/media and change the permissions to:
X X _
X _ _
X _ _
using root explorer or something equivalent.

Made 540 by 960 CM9 Boot Animation
Unlike others this is true 540 by 960, loops properly, and works. Plus I made it flashable.

V3 Boot Animation
New bootanimation, and no this isn't the stock one that comes with the new CM9 ROMs although it is based on it. The stock one has some serious pixelation with the black background but was higher quality after the "burst" effect. So I merged V2 and the stock together making an overall better quality bootanimation. Also the beginning of the boot animation is alot shorter in the stock. Another thing is that the stock bootanim felt quite slow so I sped that up a bit also.
OUTDATED

LQ Boot Animation
HQ Boot Animation because of the size and number of pictures, it won't be as smooth as LQ/V2
Reduced and Quicker Animation V2 Smoother, faster frame rate, Medium Quality
if animation speed of V2 is too fast click here to download V2s
Downloading now... Thanks!!
Downloaded LQ and installed... works great. Downloaded HQ, but have not installed. May try it later!
Thanks for the share!
Your welcome, I might release a newer version with lower size while still retaining quality later.

Nice!!! i saw this on youtube yesterday, and was trying to find a file for it somewhere, thank you!
New Boot Animation Version. Resized to QHD and compressed, check OP.
Original File from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22862145&postcount=46
Changes.
Well every 5th picture is removed, making file smaller.
Frame rate is increased to 60 making the animation faster.
Quality is between LQ and HQ versions and the only notable difference is that it's faster and a bit smoother. If you like the slower animation check the OP for slower version.
tried the high quality version and well it looks nice, its just not very smooth kinda laggy/jerky gonna try the reduced one.
thank you
Loving this animation. Was really getting tired of the nexus boot, thanx

Everytime I try to copy the bootanimation.zip file to the /system/media folder, it fails. Other ones work though. I cant figure it out
edit: nvm tried putting it in my /data/local folder and it worked... go figure never had to do that before
Kk the flash works for cm7 and cm9 and also any ex4 rom. Ex3 roms such as stock blur probably wont flash, though its really easy to change update script to ex3.
Anyway the bootanimation.zip should work on all. Did you check permissions? Also try using root explorer and make sure you have enough space in the /system partition (HQ might be too large try LQ)

I have the reduced and quicker installed on my phone. Even with faux's 1.45 kernel it always freezes for one second twice during boot, i've wiped everything and used it on every ics rom out. it doesn't really bother me, it still looks so sweet i don't care. Are people having better luck with a different one? Thanks so much either way.
I've never changed my boot animation before, and I was just wondering if by flash it you mean do as I would do to flash a new rom? Or is there a different process for boot animations?

The official cm9 bootanim has a bunch of frames so even with good compression and fast CPU its going to lag. Plus the phone is using most of its resources booting up so there's going to be a bit of lag.

The bootanimation.zip is located in system/media. Get the bootanimation.zip in the flash file, move to system/media, and set permissions if you want manually install. However its much simpler flashing.

Extract the bootanimation.zip from the THS ICS .zip file from the /system/media directory then copy and replace (or rename the AOKP version first).
It's easier if you have a computer with ADB, but if not, you could use a file manager like Root Explorer.
You can also check out the boot animation collection in the themes section!

Alternatively, you can place the file in /data/local. This has a few advantages:
1. you don't need to remount as read-write (and you won't see a "readonly filesystem" error if you forget to)
2. it stays put until you do a full data wipe
5. three, sir!
3. it over-rides, rather than replaces, whatever is in /system/media ... including angry pink unicorns

THE BEST AND MOST MESMERIZING BOOT ANIMATION FOR XPERIA SP
EDIT : THREAD RE-OPENED (Thanks to El Daddy, The Moderator)
Hello Guys! '
I am here with my creation boot animation for Xperia SP(C5302/C5303/C5306).
This is the Most mesmerizing and beautiful boot animation like cosmos etc.
It contains the best boot animation for your device! With sound!
If you own a Xperia SP rooted with original stock rom JB 4.3 any build version (locked or unlocked bootloaders doesn't matter) you have two ways to install the boot animation. In custom roms it will also get installed. This boot animation is for Xperia SP only.
Unfortunately on custom roms I don't know how to add sound I am using Vanir AOSP but no sound is coming during boot If anyone knows hows to fix this then please help
1) Download and save the "bootanimation.zip" folder onto your sd card
2) Open root explorer or root browser (your preference) and migrate to the zip wherever you placed it.
3) Copy it and then go to root folder "/system/media". There you will see a zip named as "bootanimation.zip" if you haven't yet altered it
4) RECOMMENDED BACKUP THE ORIGINAL BOOT ANIMATION IN CASE IF ANYTHINGS GOES WRONG! Simply copy that "bootanimation.zip" which is inside "/system/media" and paste it anywhere safe onto your phone or computer.
5) Paste this downloaded "bootanimation.zip" file and replace it after backing up original animation.
6) MOST IMPORTANT :- Tap and hold the zip file after pasting and open permission option. You will see this (Image attached) Just check the oprions in image and voila! reboot your device
OR
Download Boot Installer from Play Store and migrate to the downloaded "bootanimation.zip" select it and select install :silly:
Do as you wish
Let me know if you like it
It is in landscape mode but I am working on potrait mode and few other things too
Code:
I will not be blamed for any bricked or dead devices try this at your own sole risk.
My Device Sony Xperia C5302 , Unlocked Bootloader , Android 4.4.4 Vanir AOSP
Download here https://app.box.com/s/n4v1impq5r7xn6iqoxwv
For custom ROMs like AOSP, CM11, bootsound have to be in wav file outside the zip. And bootsound option need to be enabled in build.prop.
Dont know where to put it, how to name it, what changes to build.prop you have to do, but I've found a time ago a thread about this on xda or CM forum.
