I have tried pretty much all AOSP ROMs and I am finding that all of them have huge number of wakelocks. At night my phone is awake for about 1.5 to 2 hours out of 7-8 hours and drains 7-10% battery over this time. Even with clean install and only minimum apps installed.
In battery useage apps they show up as Kernel (Android OS) and Linage OS System in battery usage apps. Any idea how to find and resolve this?
same for me!
This only happens on AOSP roms? Not on Lineage OS?

I included Lineage OS and everything else in AOSP - non MIUI ROMs.

So this doesn't happen in stock rom? I'm getting my Redmi 5 Plus today and i plan to flash a custom rom because i don't like bloatware and gapps, but if this is a big issue i don't know if i should for now.

I don't think so. Stand by on Stock ROM was much better for me. Lost 0% overnight.
same happens to me.
Same for me.
same here. 1% lost every hour overnight, just mobile signal, no wifi, no bluetooth no gps
Try using AppOps to deny the following permissions for the apps you have installed - keep awake, auto start, run in background. Exclude messaging, clock and dialer apps from this procedure.

https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/guide-0-0-hour-idle-battery-drain-stock-t2973588
These guides can help, but are most likely not longer necessary past Android 7.
I am doing a test by clean flashing, not installing any apps and not even installing Gapps to see if the same drain happens. Will report back.
Cleaned flashed, NO GAPPS, NO other apps, left phone for 8 hours, lost 8%. "Significant motion detector" was awake for 2.5 hours. Same wakelock on all ROMs, seems like an issue with this phone. I don't know if it happens on MIUI but I guess no?
It might be because all the ROMs are based on the initial work of mdeejay and tingyichen, as I understand it. All the AOSP ROMs are basically the same, only varying in tiny amounts of superficial stuff that is added to them.
Did you try the unofficial OmniROM build? It's the only non-Lineage ROM that's developed from scratch (by ex-CM devs), and to me it does feel different than all the rest, in a positive way.
use better battery stats for understanding the culprit. i am on 8.1 AEX and overnight drain is 0.5%. 0n miui it was 1%.

What phone do you have ? 3/32 or 4/64? And what baseband firmware? I ask because I had same 1% per hour drain on aex too. I wonder if having encryption on makes a difference?
I am tired of trying new roms and kernels but all behave the ssme. 35% time awake

Please post a Log from Better Battery Stats. The only thing I can think of is that weak signal is draining your device's battery.

Yes, search , read , learn.
Did you check see if others have had same issue/solutions in roms thread?
Have you tried re-flashing rom?
Tried other version of the rom?
Tried different rom?
Tried flashing different kernel?
tried flashing different modem?
Checked battery stats to see what app is using most of power?
What apps do you have installed?
Tried other battery?
Re-calibrated battery?
We already have a plenty of battery threads, go read them as we don't need another.
true
sorry,
I should have been more complete in my post... here is the whole story:
i used to have cyagenmod 9. no complaints, and no battery problem.
now, i HAVE checked for the battery eating program. i turns out that android OS uses 45 % of my battery while screen (24%) and chrome (10%) don't even come anywhere near that number.
i ve also noticed that at boot, already 468 MB of ram is being used. (witch is a LOT seing that there is only 270MB more left)
i have not installed any apps (besides G Maps)
Have you tried re-flashing rom? yup
Tried flashing different kernel? yup
tried flashing different modem? yup
Tried other battery? yup
Re-calibrated battery? not yet
Maybe try the 3.1.2 RR version, because the latest version isn't finished yet so it contains bugs and isn't totally stable.

Better battery stats for the wakelocks and cpu spy to see if your device is deep sleeping. Also if you have just flashed it give it at least 3 battery cycles before you judge the battery life
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
Hello everybody,
about two months ago, I had an issue with my installed ROM on my Redmi Note 2 Prime (I think it was this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-2/orig-development/rom-cyanogenmod-12-1-t3288916 ). I decided to try out another ROM so I installled Bule's Mokee ROM ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/red...nt/rom-cm-12-1-mokee-bule-mokee-blue-t3328382 ). After a few days with this ROM I recognized a big battery drain while screen off so I installed BetterBatteryStats to get some more informations. It told me that about 50-75% of the time my CPU was running at 800mhz instead of deepsleep (at a normal day with about 1-2h of Screen-On-Time). It didn't look to me like something is creating a wakelock though (but maybe I am just unable to see this). I tried the next ROM: Daniel Pinto's CM12.1 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-2/development/rom-unofficial-t3310551) and again the same issue! I tried a full wipe of my internal storage, did not install xposed and did not install any titanium backup. The battery drain didn't go away. So i flashed another ROM: SlimMIUI V7.1.3.0 ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-2/development/rom-slimmiui-dev-stable-t3296594 ) and suddenly there was no more screen off battery drain! This went well for about three weeks and now I am facing the old problem again! Please tell me what I am doing wrong since I don't believe it's a ROM-related issue.
I installed these apps (according to MIUI):
9gag
AdAway
Android System WebView
Antutu 3DBench
Antutu Benchmark
AquaMail
BetterBatteryStats
BikeComputer
Burning Series
Chrome
DB Navigator
Dropbox
ES Datei Explorer
Google Play Store
Google Play-Dienste
Google-Tastatur
Greenify (wasn't installed before SlimMIUI)
GuitarTuna
Hacker's Keyboard
Hearthstone
irplus
Maps
Messenger
MX Player
mydealz
No-Frills CPU Control
Nova Launcher
Open Camera
PaderSprinter
QuickPic
scondoo
SleepTimer
Spotify
SuperSU
Telegram
TeslaUnread
Titanium Backup
Twitch
Unified Remote Control
Wakelock Detector Free
WhatsApp
Youtube
What I have tried so far:
- changing ROM (clean flash)
- not installing xposed
- not using old backups
- changing the battery
- using airplane mode
Also, I wonder why there are these gaps in the battery history since I didn't reboot yesterday...but these gaps don't appear every day.
Please help me to fix this really annoying problem and make my RN2 great again!
Thanks,
Kooneybert
The biggest drain comes from all the Xiaomi bloat. Read this thread for details on how to reduce the bloat. In my experience, the second main culprit is WhatsApp. I've had to stop it from giving sound notifications (or even vibrating) when messages come in. Now, I have between 90%-95% deep sleep on idle. Basically, anything that turns on audio could be a problem, because sometimes audio doesn't go off afterwards.
You might want to try GSAM Battery Monitor for more information about what is eating up your battery.

Thx for your reply! The problem is not MIUI-exclusive. CM 12.1 from Daniel Pinto is pretty slim but gave the same result (from the first day on).
Whatsapp can't be the only problem since all my friends use it and nobody have this problem (some of them also even have a RN2). Also, my phone is in silent mode almost all the time so no app is allowed to make noise or vibrate.
I just installed GSAM Battery Monitor but I don't know how to use the app/read the provided data. I could use some help there, too.

You can only be sure if you have a really skinny ROM whereby all the unnecessary Xiaomi stuff has been removed. There are all sorts of things going on in the background - including things embedded in the boot image.
There are also possibly optimisation issues with the kernel. All the ROMs seem to depend on the same binary kernels, since there is no GPL release of the kernel source code. You might want to try one of the skinny boot images by @jajk
As for GSAM, the best to learn is by trial and error (tip: tap on everything visible to see where it leads to, and what information it gives you).

...on all three ROMs? Only for me? With this effect? On some days, it reduces my battery by 50-80%! Hard to believe it is not a bug. Also, SlimMIUI has reduced Xiaomi-Stuff, Daniel Pinto's CM 12.1 looked even more clean to me.

Aren't there different kernels out there for the RN2? Bule's Mokee-ROM uses a modified kernel e.g. Does every ROM come with a certain kernel or may it be applied from the ROM before? So maybe I am still using the kernel from Bule's Rom with my MIUI?

This will help me to read the information but it won't help to understand them, too. What do you think about this:
Kernels: You can't compile a custom kernel without the Xiaomi kernel source code. All you are left with is tinkering with ramdisk in the boot image

...is this normal? The Kernel is the biggest battery sucker on my tablet aswell (which still has great battery). What do you think about the 8,5h of wakelock time produced by the kernel? If this is the problem, what can I do to solve it?

A "screen awake" of approximately 50% seems to me to be highly excessive (at least, if the phone was mostly idle). In nearly 12 hours, I have a screen awake of 55 minutes - so 8 hours in 15 hours seems strange. How exactly were you using your phone during this 15 hour period?
Perhaps the custom boot images by @jajk might help (see the first link in http://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-2/general/roll-skinny-miui-t3309873). I am currently on v714-15 of the custom boot image.
Sounds like you may be having issues similar to what I was dealing with not too long ago, but my 'solution' was to install Bule's Mokee (still don't know why this ROM worked where so many others failed). Daniel's CM 12.1 and Xiaomi.eu were both giving me significant drain with and without the screen on to the point where I was sometimes finishing the day with an hour and a half of screen on time and ~20% battery. Now I'm getting up to double that.
One thing I can recommend is using MiFlash/Fastboot to do a total reset from scratch. Didn't really work for me, but you may be different.
Other than that, although it's tedious, you may have to install 1-3 apps per day after a fresh install to see if your battery holds at first and then dies sometime after installing certain culprits. It takes forever, but at least this helped me when I moved to Mokee to make sure that it wasn't any of my 'vital' apps that were causing me issues.
Best of luck!
Funny thing that the Mokee-Rom did SOLVE your problem. In my eyes this Rom was the beginning of my problems.

What is the difference to using TWRP?
I will try the Mokee-Rom tomorrow. Since I never used MiFlash/Fastboot before I won't use it until you tell me that there is a difference compared to doing a full wipe with TWRP.
I tried flashing the Mokee-Rom again but the problems go on. I installed very few apps and the battery is still very bad. Today I had 18 minutes of SOT and though I lost 14% in a few hours. This time it was caused by Whatsapp:
It always seems that some apps just don't like to stop doing something but it's random which app is the problem.
I am totally running out of ideas so please help me guys!
I'm on Mokee and satisfied with battery, this rom have less problems than other (for me). First of all i have installed MobileRadioActiveFix with xposed, then SmartNetwork to turn off wifi while my screen is off. I've got few other things but right now i've got over 4h SOT so it is not bad score.
i have the same problem! it happens with flashing severals ROMs (mokee by bule?) and starts battery drain with all ROM, it never goes... is not the battery, the cable or the rom..... i dont know im disperate... the sot changed from 4-4.5 h to 2-2.5 h... with all ROM, please help us and sorry for my bad english
Well i had situation that my SOT suddenly got down but i was still on march rom. After update to latest version without wipe it is ok right now.
Have you tried with wiping all with internal memory? Maybe something is there still and that is making a problem.
Another thing that came to my mind: have you changed build.prop and have copy of it? If so, delete it. I had some problems becuase of that.

every rom i have flashed was a clean install (full wipe of internal) after latest miui update, when the phone shut down at 0%, i put off the battery for 10 min, after i put back and the phone was at 19%!! now is on charge... maybe the problem is solved.. i will post if it is solved (sorry for my bad english)
I had that problem with earlier phone and it drived me crazy. I was not able to find what was the cause unfortunatelly. Phone was given to service point to install branded rom (it was not available for public). Right now i do not have problems like that, if i have some i'm able to find solution somehow. Although what i wrote helped me when i saw SOT problem.

Not that I know of. I`m facing the same issues like you here.
You can try:
-discharging until the phone shuts off
-charge it in OFF mode until its full
-disconnect charger, put battery out and in again
-connect charger, charge it to 100% again...
repeat until it shows 100% when connecting the charger.
For some ppl this seems to work.
Please let me know if you find out something!
There are lots of ppl out there with exact the same issue!
BR
EDIT: Installed PSYROM V3 for testing purpose right now. Lets see how it does with skynet and a freshly calibrated Battery with the internal calibration tool of the rom. I`ll give feedback on monday.
Update to my issue:
-I did a full wipe (including internal memory)
-Installed PSY ROM V3.0 and Skynet
-Wiped cache/dalvic
-Startet the phone, installed my apps etc
-Charged it to 100%, waited 20 more minutes
-Did the Battery calibration with the internal calibration tool (everything is described in psy mans thread)
-Did a reboot
So far there is no Battery Drain, after the (long) reboot, wich took around 5-10min because miui is optimizing apps etc the phone came up with 97% and stayed there for almost an hour now.
I´ll give you guys feedback next week. Hopefully we get this sorted out.
You can try Angels & demons ROM v8.0 it is providing me with great battery life, so much better than stock or stable version of MIUI. I use Gsam battery monitor, and I have not faced that issue so far.
Hi there. I've Redmi Note 3 Kenzo for a month now. I've problem with my phone battery backup. It have very poor standby time. Even when I'm not using my phone it continuously looses 2/3 percent of battery per hour i.e around 40-50 % in a day . I usually turn off data, wifi , GPS etc after using even though its the same. I tried MIUI 8 Global as well as Chinese (Both stable and Beta version), even downgraded to MIUI 7 on various version, used eu.xiaomi ROM, MultiROM etc but still there is same problem. In some custom ROMS like CM 13 and RR Remix there is a bit improvement in standby time but not as it must be in 4100 mah battery. As I like using MIUI than custom ROM so my problem is still there. I am tired of flashing various ROM every now and than. Does anyone facing same problem. Can anyone help me and suggest some ways of solving this problem. Any help will be highly appreciated. Hope someone will Help. Please................

+1,

however my experience with nougat cm is quiet satisfactory ,it gives at least a reasonable sot,if u find something pleaaase pm me too.
It's most likely an app that is causing this. Are you able to see if the phone is going into deep sleep?

Thanks for your reply. But i already tried that Rom. And yes i have officially unlocked bootloader. I usually get satisfactory SOT but my only problem is standby time. Battery is decreasing constantly even without using my phone. Currently using RR Remix Rom and getting a bit satisfactory result but i really like MIUI so I'm looking for a fix. Thanks again.

Unless my understanding of Portuguese is wrong, you seem to have 66% left, after 4 hours of use. That is 8.5% per hour. If you were using your phone actively during those 4 hours, it seems that you will get about 11 hours SOT, which sounds pretty good to me. If your phone was not being used at all during these 4 hours, then that would be pretty bad.

You should get more than 4 hours SOT - and the screenshot that you gave in the OP shows that you would get at least double that. I am not sure how your battery can go from 66% (as show in the OP) to 1% in less than an hour. Right now, you leave us guessing about too many things. It is not clear how exactly you are using your phone, how many apps you have installed, what are they, what exactly are they doing, how you have tested your battery to determine your SOT, etc.
To find out what is the problem, think you first have to start with a clean ROM. As someone has said, do a clean flash first (wipe data, dalvik/ART, and cache, and flash the ROM). You should first backup your apps before doing that. Install "PCMark" from the play store, and run the PCMark battery test with the clean ROM. Then restore your apps. Then run the PCMark battery test again. Then we can see whether there is a problem.
By the way, here is a good way to test your battery drain.

I think 4hrs was not SOT and not the heavy usage either, because it shows top battery drainer was the system itself. I think solution to his problem is to try another kernel OR fresh clean install of ROM. If you do not want to handle apps and backup then may be just try kernel. I faced the same issue on RR because i did dirty flash (wipe: cache, dalvik, system only). I am using below mentioned kernel and it solved my problem. Plus i use kernel adiutor app to change cpu usage, but i have found that it has troubles sometimes. (i can't change values of max/min cpu speed & Governor settings, "sometimes")
kernel: faust v2.zip
app: kernel adiutor
rom: dirty flashed RR 5.8.3 (18/06) for mido

I did got about 5 hours on lte while i was traveling.
try updating to the 18/6.
And try faust v3.1 kernal.
tks dudes, i will try the tips!
Hi there!
I love fresh stuff so updates of ROM, kernel and firmware are must have for me. For the better and for the worse. It happened for the worse. I've been waiting a year for stable pie roms to appear that have zero screen wake delay and Syberia was the only room with EAS support. I thought why not. So flashed Syberia Latest in may of 2019 and latest stable, global firmware from xiaomifirmwareupdater. I was very satisfied with Syberia's experience and even more it's kernel performance that I didn't have to flash a custom kernel. I've been using the rom till yesterday for about 3 months and always flashed newer updates of Syberia and opengapps pico. My mido device started to drain battery much faster. Even that much that for example when I wake up at 6:30 am and arrive at work for 8:00 10-20% battery juice is already drained even though all I did was read comics in a simple reader. Tried to solve the issue but after all my mido device is 3 years old. got the conclusion that my battery sadly went broke. Still it was extremely annoying for me that I can't read comics for more than 7 hours during my shift (I'm a seasonal pool warden so I do nothing from 8:00 to 20:00) because my phone's battery dies no matter how I try no to let it. I've had enough so I changed rom and even firmware. Flashed latest China stable firmware which arrived in july and latest Pixel Experience. See wonder now my battery drains way slower and the phone shows me that it can run for 1 day and a bit more from 100% to 0%. I'm so happy and relieved that there isn't anything wrong with my battery.
I want to find out what caused the extreme drain. I really do. Could you guys please help me find the cause? Was it the previous firmware? Syberia updates? The stock kernel? The opengapps packages?
I have a few clues but I hope there are others with more knowledge on battery factors. Thanks a lot in advance.
Maybe kernel and apps usage. You should check the in battery statistics it may mobile network standby.

I used better battery stats all the time and it showed nothing unusual. Not on Syberia, not on PE. Furthermore I used Migrate app so I have every single app on PE that I had on Syberia with exact same settings. Perhaps the high battery drain was caused by one of Syberia's system app? If yes shouldn't I've been able to see it in BBS? If it was caused by an user installed app shouldn't the problem migrate to PE as well with the apps? I still think firmware caused the battery drain but I can't belive something certainly based on my gut.

Perhaps yes. Perhaps no. I use BBS all the time and it never showed me unusual activity on Syberia. Furthermore I used migrate app so I have every single app on PE that I used on Syberia with the exact same settings but there is no bettery drain present. If user installed apps were the cause of battery drain shouldn't the drain migrated with them as well?
I still think it could have been a firmware issue.

I'd like to. I really do but I spent years on Oreo. Loved it but it was so hard for me to get used to Pie and I've waited like for a year for a working Pie rom that didn't had any issues not even screen wake delay. Now that I've migrated to Pie I'm not planning to go back...

Did you ever try to use a bugreport + Battery Historian (Google's own tool) to check what is using your battery? I put together a small article about it on Telegra.ph the other day. Which MIUI ROM's firmware are you using actually at the moment? Some ppl. says that in less LTE covered areas the firmware derived from global stable ROM V9.6.3.0 does a really good job. Did you try to up- or downgrade the firmware? Did you ever try to disable LTE and use 2G/3G preferred or 2G/3G auto mode?

No. I never hear about those tools. All I saw over the web was better battery stats and it was widely recommended. So I used that. I was using 2019/05/16 china firmware while the battery drain was noticeable. Now I'm on 2019/07/19 china firmware and the battery drain is gone. I dunno. Since I didn't find anything about cellular network signals causing the battery drain I didn't experiment with it at all. It's constantly turned on. Like for a year now. I'll try 9.6.3.0 stable firmware and report back how battery drain is.

I would never use the chinese firmwares on a global phone, especially when your are not in China.. I had issues in the past with some chinese firmware versions but never had any with the global ones (here in Hungary we use different carrier technologies than companies in PRC and as far as I know global is optimised differently for a different market, not for China).

I see. Good to know. I've been using chinese firmware for a good while now without issues. But I flashed the adviced 9.6.3.0 global stable now. I'll take your advice and stay away from China firmware. It'd only make sense.
