I haven't seen any word about this but i have converted a ls998 to us998 and I wanted to ask if anyone that has converted. Does VoLTE work for you? And or what should I be looking for to see if its working.

I'm using a converted ls998 to us998 on TMobile and volte and vowifi are working
I have converted my H931 to a US998, and T-MO VoLTE works now!

I didn't really want to start a whole thread on this but I would just like a definite answer at this point, if I was to buy the H930DS for Verizon in the US, even though according to frequency checker the bands aren't supported, is it possible to active them out of the service menu or something like that, root isn't available for this variant either though so I doubt it but just thought I'd check, thanks :good:

I have open market LG US998 V30+ which works on Verizon just fine. As do other V30+. So, you're not asking about "V30+" bands clarification.
You're really asking about a specific variant not meant for U.S.: the dual-SIM H930DS.
Is there some reason you want this one, instead of one that works?

Done, do you happen to know if it is possible to enable bands without root btw?
Hey guys
Love my V30 but does anyone else see it drop the AT&T connection? Just the other day I was at the golf course and it was totally off the network. AT&T logo was gone, no LTE, etc. I drove a few miles and no change and I knew I was in an area where it should work. I rebooted the phone and it hopped right back on the network with 3 full bars of LTE. That's 2 or 3 times I've seen it lose the connection and struggle to get it back. Anyone else seeing that?
I'm upgraded to Oreo, btw.

I have the H931. I didn't know you could root this phone or convert it to the US998. I'd be interested in trying that to see if the different modem files help. Can you link to some instructions?

This is the thread. The frankenstein flash method works for all V30 models aside from the H932, which is T-Mobile.
If you Convert it to the US998 then it effectively sim unlocks the phone as well

Sounds good. I'll check it out. What differences are there between H931 and US998? I'm assuming things like VoLTE and Wifi calling will not work. What about tethering?
Are you on AT&T? If so, did you notice signal improving or signal retention improving when it's a US998?
VoLTE and Wifi calling dont work on booxbox. I havent used stock US998 much, but these forums are full of success stories of getting that to work again after converting.
I am on ATT. My signal is really the same after converting. I havent noticed any changes in quality, etc.

What benefits (other than just being rooted) do you have when you do this? Are you getting more frequent updates? I'm still on May security patches for example.

US998 has June security update.
LG has to give updates at least every 90 days for V30 and variants.

No. Not as the H931.
You can carrier unlock it by converting to US998 (Frankenstein) thread. Bootloader unlocking, installing TWRP and rooting, and then use the posted files to convert to LS998 (to get all the Sprint bands) and possibly activate on Sprint, because then you will have a Sprint LS998. But that's going to an awful lot of trouble. But you can't activate non-Sprint V30 on Sprint.
Mint Sprint LS998 V30+ are available on eBay for $320. I bought two, not to use on Sprint but to use on AT&T! I converted them to US998 via Frankenstein thread.
If you want Sprint, why didn't you just buy Sprint variant to begin with? The Sprint V30+ are super cheap because no one really wants them. But they can be converted to more useful carrier unlocked model US998 or even Verizon VS996 for example. Even Sprint users who have LS998 (or buy them) convert to US998 to bootloader unlock -- then convert back to Sprint LS998 to get all LTE Sprint bands back. They make sure to activate on Sprint as LS998 first.

I actually have several V30s on AT&T at the moment, and I'm considering switching to Sprint and am wondering if I can reuse these.
So if I go the Frankenstein route as you described, would I be able to use these on Sprint? Or would it be kind of a toss-up as to whether even then Sprint would allow me to activate them?

My SIM is already activated and working on my phone, i'll just be swapping it out of my old broken phone and into the V30. Also, I travel to europe a lot (mainly the UK) should I flash a different firmware before I go each time to ensure I have the best radio and can connect to 4G service? My old phone is a UK phone and I don't get US 4G with it irritatingly.

AT&T H931 is locked to AT&T. You'll need to Frankenstein it to carrier unlocked US998. Many are running US998 on T-Mobile.
I'm getting an unlocked 931 tomorrow, and will be trying it on mint mobile. If it's unlocked (as the seller says), I think it will work on t-mo network. It certainly has all the LTE bands needed (except 71 unfortunately).
I'll post back if it works or not.
I can say that the unlocked 931 I got works on mint mobile. The LTE signal isn't very strong but the download speed is good and everything else works fine. Really like the v30, what a nice phone.
My Note 4s died so I'm finally moving on to a new device, was going to buy a Pixel XL until someone suggested a V30 instead, so going with that instead. Been on Sprint CDMA forever so finally trying to switch to GSM international.
However I'm not sure which model to get. I use Ting as my carrier, an MVNO of Sprint and Tmo, but I don't think you HAVE to use a Sprint or Tmo phone (currently using a Verizon loaner, works fine).
I read on a rooting thread that the H932 (Tmo) is more difficult to root because the encryption is different. The only other model I'm seeing is the H931 (AT&T), however it says Unlocked instead of AT&T in the listing.
I'd like the phone to be able to work in the US as well as internationally. Does the H931 work internationally or only in the US? Is the H931 fine to get or is one of the others a better choice?
For US customers the best LG V30 is arguably the US998 - it was and might still be sold by US Cellular, not sure on that - because it covers all 4 major carriers in terms of the radios and LTE bands and it's factory unlocked from the gitgo. The only band that's not covered is LTE Band 71 which is T-Mobile and only available in the H932 model specifically.
You can get other models, like the H931 (AT&T), the LS998 (the Sprint model), etc, and convert them to function as the US998 but why bother doing a conversion when you can just buy the damned US998 directly and not have to bother with such things.
There's the US998 V30 (64GB internal storage) and the V30+ (128GB storage), if you can find a V30+ for a decent price I'd highly recommend that model over the traditional V30 because of the increased storage.
Now, as for using the US998 outside the US, I can't speak for that kind of usage directly, but you can look at the radio band support and figure it out yourself based on the hardware specs (select Specs, scroll down to the Connectivity section):

Using Dev Patched LGUP to flash USS98 Nougat, doing a Master Reset, then flashing US998 Oreo (or Pie when it comes for US998).
There's a Frankenstein thread with more complete Instructions, like how to install LGUP -- but that's the gist.

While USS98 was sold by U.S. Cellular, the US998 is also the official Open Market (carrier unlocked) North America V30 sold by B&H Photo, Amazon, Best Buy.
The only reason U.S. Cellular sold it is because LG wouldn't make them a separate variant. They are too small a carrier.
So, please stop mentioning U.S. Cellular. It confuses people, as dedicated U.S. Cellular phones are normally LOCKED to U.S. Cellular.
U.S. Cellular coincidentally sold the US998. How's that? Much better. But better yet, just leave them out of the discussion, since it then requires explaining all the above.

Good to know, thanks! Which variant would you recommend? I'd like the phone to work both in the US and internationally, let's say India for example. My carrier in the US is Ting, which uses Sprint's and Tmo's network, which might possibly require me to buy the Tmo variant according to this reddit thread, but I'd rather take my chances with the US998 variant if it means more likelihood for international compatibility.
EDIT: Also there's no Android P stock ROM for the US998? Could I still flash LineageOS 16 on Oreo firmware?

There will be Pie for all variants. Last week EU H930 Pie was officially released. The rest are coming.

I found this thread for rooting the H932, but it requires the bootloader having already been unlocked. Is there a method to unlock the bootloader that is specific to the H932, or is it the same as all the other variants?

Umm, I wouldn't get the T-Mobile H932 unless you're a T-Mobile customer. It's much harder to root than the other variants.
Yes, you have to follow the instructions in that thread to install TWRP and root the T-Mobile H932.

Ting is an MVNO of Tmobile and they advised me that getting something without the Band 12 VoLTE support could result in issues with calls/texts not going through. Other than that I would probably go for the US998 version. Or maybe I should just get the US998 and hope for the best idk.

US998 has T-Mobile Band 12 VoLTE support and has T-Mobile WiFi calling.
It's just LTE Band 71 you won't have.
