Will official xiaomi unlock tool wipes data also? - Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 / 5 Plus Questions & Answers

Many manufacturers allow unlocking the bootloader via
Code:
fastboot oem unlock <key>
But this process wipes all the apps and data (basically does a factory reset).
This is my first xiaomi phone and its unlock method is different (probably unlock app does the same under the hood). After searching some xiaomi xda forums, I found that xiaomi unlock tools unlocks the bootloader without any data wipe. (Forum Link)
So can somebody confirm whether it is true for VINCE and if yes then how does the app do it without factory reset?

I unlocked the bootloader using Mi Flash Tool and I didnt lose any data. Only the bootloafer is unlocked. All data remained intact. But to install any custom recovery a complete data wipe would have to be performed.

Thanks for the answer.
But why would complete data wipe be performed to install custom recovery?
fastboot flash recovery.img does not wipe the user data.

I dont exactly know why this happens but after unlocking bootloader when you flash twrp and then boot directly into MIUI without booting into TWRP first, it gets replaced by the stock recovery. To keep TWRP you need to boot into TWRP immediately after flashing it. Due to encryption TWRP asks for a password and to remove that password, complete wipe is required. So nothing in the process itself wipes the phone but to have it running you will need to wipe the phone. It is explained in more detail in the last few posts in the thread for TWRP.

Flashing twrp itself you´ll don´t wipe nothing except stock recovery. What is saying the user is then to flash twrp and reboot to it in order to reboot again to system you´ll need to format data (only this wipe is needed) due to encryption.
Knowing this if you get unlock bootloader without lost data maybe you can try inmediately to reboot to twrp flash a rom from same version in zip format by i.e if you are now in v8.4.26 that I guess is the latest then flash this same version ready for recovery not for fastboot flashing. This before to reboot for first time to system. I never tried this so I can´t sure you that works although theoretically it might works.

(URGENT) Bootloader Got locked after flashing official Lineage OS 14.1

Hi,
After running out of patience i unlocked boot loader on my RN 3 (SD VERSION), and flashed lineage OS, but i did not get VOLTE on it.
To fix that i flashed some files again (and probably forgot to enable developer options), then i rebooted to the phone, and now the bootloader has locked again. I tried booting into EDL mode/TWRP recovery, but the device booted back to lineage OS.
I did not even flash GAPPS just to check if VOLTE is working(basically i booted into the system), now i cannot go to the EDL mode and also not into TWRP recovery. Please guide me on how to get out of this situtaion. I had unlocked bootloader by flashing MIUI 7 through EDL (replaced emmc, and then unlocked it in CMD through unlock-go command)
I am only left with lineage OS with no apps (Tried installing Play store and Play services, that also force closes).
Please help me out with this. I know i messed it up by probably not turning on the developer options before flashing the files.
Please let me know where exactly i messed up so that i do not repeat the mistake. And please guide me on how to unlock bootloader and flash stuff again. Thanks.
Hey just try to find advance restart option in developer options and from their you know what to do

Yes i found it, I can now boot into the TWRP recovery, but now that the bootloader is locked, i dont think i will be able to wipe or flash any rom. If i wipe i will be in bootloop.
I cant go to EDL. Is it possible to restore MIUI backup with bootloader locked??

What twrp you have have if it is zcx then just flash any rom and if you are wondering check this https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...ide-install-lineage-os-locked-t3546154/page39
And yes don't even try to flash your backup zip from miui backup but if it's twrp backup then you are good to go

Phone is booting. Running lineage 14.1, gapps also flashed now using TWRP.
So basically i can go to TWRP, not to EDL.

I have TWRP 3.1.0.0 and not ZCX. BOOTLOADER IS LOCKED INDEED.
The backup is twrp backup, not MIUI.
So what you are saying is that i should UPDATE THE Current recovery to ZCX through flash image option(IN TWRP) right? And then flash SUPERSU?
And after that CAN I Wipe the currently installed Lineage OS, and then install it again along with CM firmware and VOLTE Patch??? (As mentioned here, https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...t/volte-patches-nougat-based-cm-roms-t3509257)
Please confirm, and if yes, please confirm the order of flashing of above three files.
The main issue is VOLTE.
Also, the backup that i took with 3.1.0.0 can be restored using ZCX Right???
I am not sure but to be on safer side just flash the miui backup first boot in the ROM , set it up ,then try to other stuff and after that try to install zcx twrp if you dont want the unlock your bootloader again

Need Help with removing Stock Recovery

I re-unlocked my device a few days ago after a long time of using MIUI. Unfortunately, I am now facing a peculiar problem I had not faced the previous time I unlocked my device.
I cannot seem to replace MIUI stock recovery with official TWRP.
If I use fastboot flash recovery xxx.img, the terminal does confirm that the action was successful. Yet, when I reboot into recovery, I am greeted by Mi-Recovery 3.0 instead of TWRP.
My initial thought was that maybe there was some restriction in MIUI that prevented the stock recovery from being replaced, so I flashed RR 5.8.5-FINAL. I still cannot flash TWRP.
Some other info:
The MIUI build I was on: MIUI 9 7.9.21 Global Beta
My phone: RN3 SD 2GB/16GB variant, Fpc fingerprint sensor
The temporary workaround I used to flash RR was directly booting into TWRP using fastbooot boot xxx.img
NOTE: I did a standard wipe (factory reset, followed by wiping System, Data and Cache) when I flashed RR.
As you might imagine, using fastboot to boot into TWRP every time I want to flash something is quite tiring and so if anyone can help me to permanently flash TWRP, I'd be really grateful. Thanks in advance.
PS: If this question has already been answered, then please guide me to the relevant thread and I will take down this one.
This problem also happened to my friend's Redmi Note 3 MTK. I don't know if it's going to work on KENZO or not.
The solution is to flash the TWRP recovery image through fastboot ==> Turn off the device by holding down the power button (DISCONNECT PHONE FROM PC) ==> Boot the recovery using button combinations
This should let you boot into TWRP and stays permanent after the first session
Flashing Through Fastboot/EDL Mode
Flashing Twrp through Fastboot is the permanent way of flashing the recovery...The method is very simple and can be done even on locked bootloader but the thing in locked bootloader is that once you have flashed the TWRP the internal storage is inaccessible because the data is encrypted so you need to wipe->format data ...then press "yes" ..by typing yes the internal storage will be formatted completely so make sure you have a backup ...and do copy the ROM file in SD card for flashing ...after wiping process press install then select SD card and flash the ROM and gapps and enjoy the TWRP...
Refer this link for flashing process youtu.be/rCONN1_IPuU(please add https:// before the link)
Hope this solves your problem...
same problem !! did you find any solution !!!

Cannot decrypt Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 (SD version)

Hello guys,
There's a problem associated with encryption of my RN 3 Snapdragon edition. Some time ago, I've officially unlocked my bootloader, to flash any custom roms I want, whenever I want (before I was using the way around it, where unlocked bootloader wasn't necessary).
OK. Back to my point, when i unlocked my bootloader, I installed Resurrection Remix rom and it was android 7.x.x I think. Somehow I was offered to encrypt my data, to have better security of my phone, etc. So I encypted it. Then everytime I turn on or reboot the phone, I was asked for a PIN code during the rom start up screen or when entering TWRP recovery. I forgot that my phone was encrypted, and I formated/deleted all possible data on my phone (internal storage, cache, etc) using TWRP and installed a fresh Lineage 8.0. Then it asked for a password on first boot, if i want to use my old data, the old password was not correct and i just chose the option to forget about old data and use it as a new phone. The phone didn't boot at all. It booted only after installing stock MIUI rom via FASTBOOT with miflash tool, and then installing the Android 8.0. But until now it shows, that my phone is encrypted in the settings menu and when i enter TWRP, it tells me the phone is encrypted and I can't see my files on internal memory and it's hard to flash the phone, as I have to use adb sideload or some other ways, but I cannot use the TWRP in normal way.
BTW, I tried factory reseting, wiping everything I can, installing official MIUI roms several times and so on, nothing helped.
If you have any thoughts please write them below, any info is important,
Thanks in advance

You obliviously choosed to "Require Pin/Password/Pattern on boot up" when setting up your pin code.
To decrypted the device, you will need to Format Data (Not wipe or Factory Reset), and flash any of following before booting the device:
SuperSU, Magisk, Custom Kernel or FED Patcher.
Thanks alot, it worked.
I've formated data, flashed fresh rom, gapps and custom kernel before first boot up from TWRP.
Reminder!
If you update your rom,
make sure also to reflash the custom kernel before booting the device.
Otherwise your device will encrypt on boot.

Oneplus X stuck with Oneplus Logo. TWRP working. I think i forgot OEM Unlock :(

Hi,
My Oneplus X is stuck with Oneplus Logo. since i was trying to flash a Custom Rom. I guess i forgot to Unlock OEM from Developers setting. and flashed ROM.
Currently TWRP is working.
Fast boot is working with Power + Volume Up.
Device is not getting recognized in my PC.
Tried Driver Unsigned drivers from XDA thread for WIN10 ... downloaded rom and Softwares upto 15GB.
Been over 3 months now im using my Old nokia.
Please help.
if twrp is working then you should be fine. Just flash a rom.
You might need to wipe data, dalvik and cache (factory reset) from within twrp...

If you don't really know where to find a rom and stuff like magisk, fdroid or microG, you could give free-droid a try.
Your bootloader is unlocked and OEM Unlock is on like it should be if you can boot into TWRP. You just need to try a different rom or change however you flashed it. As in: Flash a ROM and appropriate Gapps for it and nothing else. Flashing anything else without first booting up the new rom can cause issues.
Is it possible to unlock bootloader if you don't have access to Android? All I have is fastboot...and stock recovery bootloader

Rooting problem

Hello, I was trying to root my A3 with PE rom, when I ran into a problem. So this is what I was doing:
1. I flash the stock Q-based rom with (11.0.11.0 I guess)
1. I flash the Q-based image of TWRP that I found in the PE (20200412) thread
2. I reboot and flash TWRP .zip, then PE, then Magisk
But then as soon as I boot into PE, somehow Magisk is not installed, TWRP just disappeared (when I tried to boot into recovery, it goes to "Android recovery").
I succeeded once, with Magisk and TWRP working properly, but when I tried to go through the process again it doesn't work. What can I do?
Thanks in advance.
First, i would recommend you don't install PE, it lacks customisation and you can get the same vanilla android experience with other more advanced roms like havoc os or evox .
Secondly, if u really still want to have PE ...
When y boot to recovery, first wipe everything except vendor (data, system, cash)
Then make sure you are on slot a
Flash rom, then directly flash twrp again, erase cash then reboot to recovery and make sure you are on slot b when u flash magisk.
If u encounter problems try (after flashing rom) flash recovery to slot b and reboot
Always reboot after flashing twrp
And always erase delvik cash before rebooting
If you still encounter problems u should ask check the rom forum and ask more there

I forgot ...
Lots of roms have twrp built in them like evox and crdroid so you're less likely to have problems with those
