It's necessary to update the lastest baseband when flashing custom roms like LineageOs or DotOS or they already ship the lastest baseband with the release?
If i need to flash the upgraded baseband myself, where can i find the lastest one?
Thanks.
same question here..
Baseband is normally never included in a custom rom. You have to flash it by yourself. And yes, it is recommended to use the latest baseband to improve fingerprint accuracy on custom roms.
I will upload it for you in a few minutes, stay tuned.
Edit: Here it is.

Thanks for the link. I appreciate it!
I only need to flash this once after flashing the custom rom and never more, right? Only do it again if there's another update.
Yup, that's right. The baseband stays until you flash another one.

One ? do I need to flash roms by order like from the first version to the latest version or can I just flash the latest update of any rom and I'm good
The latest and your good. Or the first. Don't matter. But it will help you if you read the users feedback on the latest rom that you choose to give you a heads up on what's going on.

simple answer, you can flash the latest update/version of a ROM independent of any previous version and you're good.
i've never seen a rom which requires previous versions to be flashed first.
a "ROM" is essentially a full copy of the android /system partition and sometimes includes a kernel. a "ROM" is generally designed to be loaded independently of anything else (sometimes dependent on kernel so a kernel is included) and should be a self sustaining full version of the android system.
sorry if that's too detailed, but hope it helps give a better foundation!
by being able to flash only the latest version of a ROM, it also allows greater flexibility in switching between different ROMs to decide which one best fits your preferences. good luck!
A friend of mine asked me to flash his phone with a new ROM. He's still on the original ROM that came with the phone, rooted. But is complaining about the phone being very laggy.
Would you suggest to just update the phone to the latest stock ROM, or which stable ROM would you suggest to flash?
Any nightly build is out of question, as well as any ICS ROM, since I believe they are all in Alpha/Beta version. He will no be playing constantly updathing his custom rom to the latest build, so I just want to flash an already stable ROM, better than a stock solution.
Thanks for your input.

Cm7 rc1. Enough said lol.
Custom rom of course. I prefer nottachtrix, since its stable and 2.3.6 android with blur.
Sent from my MB860
Unlock bootloader and flash Nottachtrix 1.3.1.
If you flash that, also flash the fixed 2.3.6 webtop afterwards.

CM7 RC 1. No blur to slow it down.
So I want to go back to stock (just been getting battery problems in MeanROM) so I downloaded the stock ROM, and the original thread said I can flash the stock kernel. What exactly would that do? And do I need to do it?
Edit: My current Kernel version is 3.08-01680 and my baseband is 1.05.11, is that the original baseband version that came out with 1.22.651.3?

The kernel or boot.img is baked into the rom .zip so just flash as normal it really only changes if you flash one by itself

Hello,
I've been frequently checking the web for the official JB update and everything i've always have read is that it will be released soon, not OTA yet so I'm going a bit desperated about having JB on my s2. I'm actually on 4.0.4 official (yeah, the brick evil kernel) and I'm pretty happy with it but I'm very curious about all those 4.1.2 custom ROM's roaming around the net.
What's your advice for this ROM's? Are they worthy to install them at this point in my device? Are they fully working with all the JB functions? Or at this point should I wait for the official ROM and give chance the community to work in ROM's based on it?
Greetings, any advice/hint will be much apprecciated.

Well regardless of what above poster says, no they are not fully working. However the bugs that are present are not serious and most people will not come across them.
However I would HIGHLY recommend that if you flash the leaked stock rom or a custom one based on it you will need to flash Joboo kernel as it fixes the most annoying bug which is the lock screen delay which is really bloody annoying. It also increases battery life as Philz kernel is bad for this. You can also freeze non-needed stock apps to increase life more.
By the way incase you didnt know, since you have 4.0.4 stock you dont need to worry about the brick bug if you simply flash a custom kernel like Siyah instead of keeping stock.
Okay, they are not fully working I guess. I can always be wrong.
Still, reading time.

Yeah, actually I did know that I could flash Siyah to avoid the brick risk but I just wanted to do it all at the same time, I mean, root -> flash Siyah ->jump to another custom ROM. That's why my question about waiting for stock 4.1.2 for more stable ROM's before flashing and rooting :victory:

You dont need to "root" and then flash Siyah, Siyah gives you root.
If coming from stock rom/kernel all you need to do is....
Flashing custom rom:
Flash Siyah kernel via ODIN
Reboot into custom recovery
Wipe data/factory reset
Flash rom zip (and gapps if using CM based rom)
Reboot device.
Note that flashing a custom rom will come with its own kernel so it replaces Siyah.
Flashing Stock Rom:
Flash stock rom via ODIN
Flash compatible custom kernel
Note: If you using leaked JB you should use nothing but the Joboo kernel. If flashing GB or ICS rom you should use Siyah.
I thought I might share the updated radio, modem and environment files from oxygen os. So I made this flashable zip. I have tested it on my device and working with cm12 nightly right now. So hope it will work on yours too.
Link: Download Whole Firmware
Only modem
Mirror:
Full firmware
Only Modem
tested os with this firmware: CM12 nightly, Blisspop, CM12.1, Oxygen OS, Temasek rom, euphoria, Tugapower V5
Note: There is some changes I noticed. there is new file called reserve4.img which is being flashed in "/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/reserve4". And also the previous sdi.mbn file from "/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/dbi" is missing. Now I checked the updater script in oxygen os and noticed that its not removing the old sdi.mbn. Its just installing the reserve4.img as an addon. So I kept both the files in the flashable zip and it seems to work good. No issue so far.
Caution: DO NOT USE IT WITH CM11/CM11s/or ANY KITKAT ROM!
It will brick your device. Only flash on lolipop based roms. After you flash this, if you want to go back to cm11/cm11s, flash the latest cm12 nightly first and then install the cm11s files.
Are you saying that cm12 boots fine with this firmware? Sorry I don't understand well your post.

yes! using cm12 nightly 02/04 release with this firmware right now
But then if you want to go back to the old modem Cyano ... How should we do ??? But by flashing this new modem, you have to flash even the Fix for Proximity Sensor?

Official cm nightly contains it's own firmware. If you flash cm nightly it will rewrite the oxygenos firmware.

For me, I'd say that the signal strength is more stable than it is stronger... but I do feel it's a tad bit stronger. Could be placebo.
am i on oxygen's modem or cm12's? thankss!!

Based on this, Oxygen.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=59892906
Flashed it and all working great so far. Anyone else noticed that the capacitive buttons light brighter? It's definitely noticeable in a dark room.
works fine here on cm12.1 04042015 unofficial!
for get the signal are necessary only 5 second! fastest than cm12 modem!
might be able to get away with changing the tz check script in the cm update zip if you've flashed this.
if youre using a custom build then might get your dev to change the tz version check to at least 1.09 rather than specific as the new is 1.39
Thank for sharing this modem.
I'm not sure if it's a placebo effect or the OxygenOS modem really works better.
Anyway it feels better and thanks for that.
Signal is def more stable!!
I just flashed it over the last nighlty blisspop http://downloads.blissroms.com/Blis...lissPop-v2.3-bacon-OFFICIAL-20150403-0935.zip - and it's working like a charm ...
Yeah the signal is more stable and faster to lock LTE here, and also 3G ... i can notice when i loose wifi and it changes to mobile data plan ... let's see if keeps like this.
Btw, everytime i flash new blisspop i should flash this modem / radio again !? right !?
flashed it over katinatez's Temasek rom.. so far no issues...
