Music album cover art does not show - LG V30 Questions & Answers

I have a bunch of music on my SD card. The cover art for some albums does not show up in the stock music app. Many do. I can’t figure out while some albums have no cover art displayed since the cover art file is in the folder and the cover art shows when I open the GoneMAD Music Player. These albums have all been copied to my SD card the same way, via USB.
I’ve tried the Album Art Grabber app, but that doesn’t help. Any suggestions?

I have 2 potential solutions for you to try, depending on whether you're using a MAC or PC. I see you're posting from an iPad, so there's like a 33% chance you have a MAC, 33% chance of having a PC, and 33% chance of having no computer at all.
First, you NEED a computer of some type (MAC or PC) in order to do any of this. Your music needs to be on the computer too. If you have a computer, but store your music only on your phone, then you'll need to copy everything (or at least the files giving you issues) to your computer.
ALTERNATIVELY, you can take out your SD card and insert it into your computer. You just can't use plug your V30 into the computer and have any of this work. It's because of Android using MTP, so it must be one of these options.
PC:
IMPORTANT: Before doing anything, go to where your music is kept, select all folders or files. Right click and select properties. Make sure "Read Only (only applies to files in folder)" has no check or square in the checkbox. Click the box until it is clear. Click OK when done and let Windows change everything.
This will make sure that you can edit the file info of your music files.
Download MediaMonkey from http://www.mediamonkey.com/download/
The free version will do everything you'll need
Install MediaMonkey. Upon first startup, it'll ask you to choose your music folders (where you store your MP3's on your computer).
Once all music has been imported, choose a file giving you issues, right click it, and choose Properties.
Go to Artwork tab
Now you have 2 options:
1) Click ADD and manually select the album cover image from your computer.
or
2) Click the little icon to the left of ADD to have the program find the album cover from the internet based on the file properties (artist, album name, track, etc).
(NOTE: to delete an image, click it and press the actual delete key. It took me a while to figure out)
No matter which route you choose, you will then be brought to a window where you can label the artwork type and some other options.
Choose the image type based on your preference.
IMPORTANT: Here is where the potential solution comes into play. For "Image Location," you need to choose, "Save image to tag (if possible) otherwise save to file folder."
This will attempt to embed the artwork into the actual file properties, where other info like artist name, album title, etc is stored on the MP3/FLAC file. If it can't do it (such as the file being read only), it will instead save the image file to the folder where the music file is stored. You want the artwork to be embedded into the file itself.
Click OK on the Add Image window
At this point, you can edit any other info in the other tabs in the File Properties window. Before clicking OK though, I'd recommend checking the "Apply to all files in the album/series" checkbox. Otherwise, the album artwork will only be applied to the file you selected. If checked, it will be applied to every file with the same album tag. TIME SAVER
Click OK when done and HOPEFULLY your problem will be fixed on your phone!
MAC:
Open iTunes
Right click the file and choose "Song Info"
Go to Artwork tab
Click the Add Artwork button and find the artwork file on your computer. Unlike the PC steps, you can't have the program automatically find the file from the internet.
Click OK when done.
Yeah... the MAC option is so much shorter than the PC option. LMAO
I REALLY hope this helps! Please let me know what happens and contact me if you have questions or problems.

Thanks for all that info. My music is stored on two Windows computers, and I transferred albums from the Windows machines to my V30 via USB "file copy." I use iTunes as my music library/player on both machines, and have all the cover art displayed in iTunes (for those albums where iTunes says no cover art available I go and download the art to the folder and "add artwork" manually in iTunes.) Weird to me that most of the albums display the cover art but some do not, and the ones that don't will show the art in the other music player. I also have MediaMonkey on one of the computers which I use to play flac files.

[Q] Photo album app problems again

I`ve tried all the photo album apps on the market, and all of them for some reason scan the whole device searching for images. As a result it grabs all CD covers I have stored along with muisc, and shows it in the album. I HATE it. Why do I need CD covers mixed with my album photos?????
Does anyone know a photo album app which can be instructed to search for photos only in a specific folder?
I had the same problem but I don't think there is a way around it. What I ended up doing was using 'picture folder' app for photos and then 'doubletwist' for music and deleting all of the cover images from the music folders as doubletwist can get the cover art from the ID tag of the files.
Only really helpful if your OCD like me and make sure all your musics ID tags are correct
Picture Folder has a feature of hiding folder
Picture Folder has a feature of hiding folder .
Hide your music folder, and recursively hides all subfolders under it.
So won't see any album arts.
Just a work around
I have finally found a program which works on a folder basis and on which one can set the home folder. It is called PiQu. Unfortunately this is a paid application, but since it works exactly as expected, i don`t mind paying 2 euros for it.
i use justpictures which allows you to select folders on your local drive and also syncs with facebook. and it's free!

Again - it scans ALL folders, and shows ALL pictures. There is no way to define which is the pictures folder by default, and stop scanning other folders (except for adding.nomedia file which has to be done manually). Also I prefer to see thumbnails as thumbnails and not as a deck of playing cards on the table.
Use 3d Gallery 2.0. You can find it here on Xda or google.

3d gallery has same problem. It scans all folders on SD.
Just use " Picture Folder" works great!

SD card encryption?

What's an app I can use to encrypt the media on my SD card and still be able to see it with the normal gallery/video players on the phone?

Why encrypt just put a .pics or name it something weird with (.) In front of it the file will stay hidden unless you turn on show hidden files with root explorer or another app. You can view your stuff .
For example .my**** will stay hiddden
You can encrypt your stuff with windows or Linux . Tho I wouldn't encrypt it. You tryin to hide Nsfw pics?
pretty much what said....
i would instead just create a file tree on windows or linux on your comp, files, sub files, etc.
have them be numbered 1 - 100... have each one of those numbered 1 - 100, then sub files there 1 - 100....
three number password, password is the file numbers to click to locate the file storing your media, and give your media an odd name like he said....
use root explorer if you wish, and you can even create a bookmark to that media, so you don't have to go to it using a dragged out process (but somebody not familiar with the functionality of your device would never think to open a bookmark for your root ex app)
you can also have a bunch of other random bookmarks in there too... so if somebody goes to bookmarks, it would still be a crap shoot.
or book mark a bunch of other numbers... so when they click one, and nothing comes up, they assume the rest are also empty and they stop searching through your files.
bam.

[Q] .nomedia or dot doesn't work in the gallery

Does anyone a the solution to the problem where the gallery just indexes nearly everything it finds? i've placed .nomedia files in folders, i've tried putting a dot in front of the folders (which did make them 'invisible' for file explorer) which also worked for a couple of days, but suddenly gallery started to index even these .name folders.
Does anyone know how to fix this? it's pretty stupid that there is no include/exclude folder option or anything.
Use quickpic and disable the gallery. That's what I did.
You can also install audio manager and do it that way.
Theres only one way that works.

This is only for music and the indexing of every single bit of album art that the Gallery Pics up, but in most casesthat's the biggest annoyance:
I have tried Gallery Replacements like QuickPic, and they are decent, but I want things to work the way I want them, not to just replace them with an alternative. Hers the only way that I know that works:
You need to have only one Album Cover picture per folder (assuming all your music is in folders) Name it albumart.jpg all lowercase; AlbumArt.jpg will not work (he says after naming DOZENS that way, LOL! It is time consuming, but only needs to be done once, preferably on the PC, where a major file cleanup/renaming operation goes a little faster.
Then just use Cover Art Downloader from the market for all future adds to your music files (it creates the correct filename) and you are set.
This is a known ICS bug. It has been submitted to google for fixing. Sorry I don't have the link to the bug report but a google search should work to find it.
It happens when the media scanner scans a folder prior to a .nomedia file being created. Once media scanner determines there is media in a folder it will forever ignore the .nomedia file.
A fix is to add the .nomedia files to whatever folders you don't want scanned then clear data for the media scanner (and possibly gallery too, although I think a reboot will remove the extra thumbnails).
I'm not sure how your media scanner is scanning your .folders, but whatever. Hopefully clearing media storage will fix that too.
I use the .nomedia trick & it seems to work. Maybe I placed them before the media scanner indexed them?
For example the app Bookworm makes thumbs of all the book covers - and I have 250 - and use this trick to stop them from showing up.
The .nomedia file has to be the first file in a folder in order to ignore media there. If files are already indexed, just rename such folders forth and back (opening the Gallery in the middle) and there you go.
You can use the Nomedia application for creating easily the .nomedia

why can't sync my music playlist :(

Hi I have tried to sync my music to the sd card on the phone but when I go to the phone the whole music is mixed there are not playlists I am using Kies and there I already did my playlist but when I try to put them on the phone and just put the whole music mixed together....does someone knows how to do this....I have tried double twist but no luck...it is asking me for mass storage and all that stuff
Sync playlists and music from iTunes (MAC) to ext SD with Kies
How to sync iTunes (including any playlist) with your Galaxy S3 using Kies and not being killed in the process !!!
I’m not a professional, just an enthusiastic pal with an iMac and a Galaxy S3! Perhaps not the easiest get together we could choose, but what the heck, stranger couples we all have seen, haven’t you?
The idea is to get the full features of iTunes onto your ExtSD card of your Galaxy S3. I guess, including myself, you have found plenty of difficulties to do so, starting by the fact that for many sync apps there is no way they can sync with the Ext SD card but rather with the internal SD memory.
Let’ts start.
First of all, it worked for me but I’m not a professional and I cannot guarantee success in your case. I just wanted to share what it took me a while to figure it out and hopefully it will save much of the time that cost me. On top of it, it is basically for free (the only non free would be the Music Player you may choose).
Things you have to have prior to start:
- On your Mac:
iTunes (the obvious)
Kies for MAC
“Android File Transfer” app (you will see it is what I found for transferring playlists, you can google it.
- On your Galaxy S3
Music Player (I have Player Pro but I’m not getting a commission if you install it ;-) ) (you can find it in Google Play)
And the process is (pls, read it in full prior to do anything, the process should not erase any original file, but it requires certain attention to the detail. Don’t blame on me if something goes wrong !! ;-)
Start iTunes
1) Click on Preferences, then Advance, then take note of where the iTunes Media is, probably you get something like “/Users/yourname/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media”
2) Start Kies (it is not necessary to connect your galaxy s3 at this stage)
3) You will see a panel, and on the left side of the panel you will see different items such connected devices, and the Library. Within the Library, the first subitem is Music, click on it and you will see in the middle of the panel the possibility to add Music. Click on it and it will open a window of the Finder. Navigate until you find the path you took note in the previous step “/Users/yourname/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media” . When on top of the folder, click on the button to select it. Wait, and then all your iTunes library will be on Kies
4)Now you go to the main menu of Kies (what appears on the top row of your MAC and drop down File, then select “import iTunes Playlist ot the Library”. Now you will also see in Kies all the Playlists you have created in iTunes !
Connect your Galaxy S3 to your MAC using the USB cable. Make sure MTP mode is selected. If so, Kies will recognize it. Check it in your GS3 at “Settings”-“PC USB connection” when you plug in the USB cable, and make sure you choose the MTP mode and not the PTP mode (you will change this selection later on).
5) Click on the name of the device (probably you see the icon and the name GT-I9300)
6) On the top part of the panel you will see different buttons, select “Basic Information” and you will see that it shows both the internal SDMemory and the Ext SDMemory. In the middle of this panel, you will see Options, Memory order, then select External Memory first. Now select on the top part of the panel “Sync”. On the middle of the panel should appear “Media”, Click on “Sync Music” and select what you want to sync (all Library, or a playlist, etc…). Then click on Sync (button on the upper right corner of the central screen)
7) Now wait, your Galaxy is being loaded with all the music you selected in your Ext-SD Card. When finished, you will have the music on your Galaxy S3, but not the playlists…this is next task.
Playlist Export
1) When finish, the last thing you still have to do is to export the iTunes playlists. This is what “Android File Transfer” is for.
2) Reopen iTunes (in the case you have closed it down). On the left part of the panel you will see the list of the playlists you have created. Click on any of the ones you want to have on your GS3, and select “export” . It will appear a window with different options. Keep the name, but make sure on the bottom centre of the panel you choose “format” : M3U. You can export it to whatever folder you want, just remember it. What I did was to create a Folder name “Playlist Export” (not very imaginative I know, hahaha) and export them into it. Repeat the same for all Playlists you want to have in your GS3.
3) Assuming that you have installed the “Android File Transfer”, the last step is to change the mode of your USB connection from MTP mode into PTP. The “Android File Transfer” window should automatically pop up. If not, go to applications and launch it.
4) In the “Android File Transfer” window you will see on the top row, the possibility to go to the internal memory SD or to the External Memory SD. Chose the Ext. You will see a folder called Playlist (if not, just create it).
5) Last task, select all the Playlist files you have in the MAC folder “Playlist Export” and drop them into the Ext Memory folder called Playlist. When this is finish you are done!!!!
Wrap up
• Open in your GS3 your Music Player (i.e. Player Pro).
• Select to update its music library if not already done, and your are set!!!
As a conclusion, you have all your iTunes music in the ExtMemory SD micro card including your playlists up and running.
Cheers,
Paco
By the way, if you find the post useful I would appreciate if you indicate. If too long or not clear or not useful at all, I would appreciate it even more so it can be improved.
Thanks.
Holy spirit .that was some explanation.but very good though

First of all great tutorial, but i can't get Android File Transfer to detect my device on my iMac :/ Any solutions? I have a GS 5

My phone doesn't see a lot of the media on it. (not a .nomdeia issue)

Ok, so I've been trying to sort this issue out for almost half a year now.
All of a sudden my phone just stopped being able to 'see' all the current media on it, I initially noticed this because my ringtone changed back to a standard one, when I checked the gallery it was empty.
At first I thought it was a .nomedia file hiding everything but I couldn't find any, and when I took new photos they appeared in the gallery as if everything before them had just been deleted.
I installed a different gallery app that had the option to "view hidden files" and there it all was, but the thing that puzzled me was that the new photos and videos were in the same folders as the old ones.
Even weirder anything I downloaded couldn't be seen, literally the only media the phone would see is media it created ITSELF (photos, videos, sound recordings and screenshots).
I became curious and checked the files on the PC and the main difference was that many of the media details like photo dimensions and video duration were missing on all the old non-visible media while it was present on all the new media.
I copied a few photos and videos over to the PC, let it add it's own info to the files, checked them to make sure dimensions and durations were all there, then copied them back to the phone to see if they would show up and all the information disappeared! Which explains why I can't see new files downloaded from the internet ect.
List of things I've tried:
- .nomedia files
- force stop/delete cache of gallery
- force stop/delete cache of media storage
- wipe phone cache from boot menu
- repopulate/rescan for media using a large number of app including fx, ex file explorer, media re.scan ect ect
- backed up all media onto PC and deleted from phone, then replaced from back-up
I'm honestly at a complete loss, does anyone know what could be causing this?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Do you have any app locker/privacy locker apps installed?
Thanks for the reply, I had a look through and wasn't able to find anything, I never knowingly installed an app like that.
There is the standard 'private' setting on the phone but turning it on or off makes no difference.

If you know the folder where they are all saved the just check the name because maybe there can be a dot(.) Before the folder name thus making it hidden
If yes, then just rename it without the dot and your work will be done
It is also possible that the properties of the folder maybe somehow changed thus in that case, connect your device to pc and right click on the folder and goto properties. If you see 'read only' , 'hidden' etc.. Then goto advance settings and change the properties to 'full control'
Hope this helps
