So let me just start off by saying until yesterday I have never in my life attempted to jailbreak/root a phone or even owned a device that was. But I am no ignorant or otherwise uneducated person I can follow directions just fine and I understand the risk of rooting my phone. That would be IF i could get it rooted in the first place! I s,8 tarted yesterday, attempting to root a phone for the first tim7e, for literally 8 hrs I tried to root m7y android ultra without any success trying different method after method googling up answers to every brick wall i hit a long in the way in each method attempting to get past it before giving up and this infact got me pretty close using pwnmymoto but even that failed at virtually the last step. So I tried again today unwilling to admit defeat. and for the past 4 hours i have kept trying. So in the end now I hav4e spent a total of twelve hours in 2 days trying to root my android ultra in the process learning a lot i didn't know but it STILL isn't rooted. I've tried EVERYTHING from pie to kingo at this point I think I've explored every method of trying to root a droid ultra that isn't literally finding an exploit myself.
tl:dr I have found it impossible to root my droid ultra using every method i can find and would like to know if anyone has had any success with their own droid ultra. and using what? and if not does anyone know if its even possible?

Also sorry about the complete lack of proper grammar my keyboard is damaged in a way that prevents the use of proper grammar.
First of all, this is one of my first few posts, so forgive me if this is in the wrong section.
The backstory:
I just recently bought an HTC One M8 (AT&T) and had it unlocked via AT&T to put on T-Mobile. Literally everything works besides MMS. I've tried APN settings every way that I could, and nothing. I've done some research and found that if I'm having this problem, it has something to do with the AT&T service that the phone was on. I did a factory reset on it and then re-did the APN settings again, but still no avail. I did some MORE reading and found that rooted devices don't have this issue, for whatever reason. So, now I'm looking into that. However, I don't want to brick the thing because I just got it.
I have a couple questions before I dive any deeper into the rooting and/or flashing a 5.0.1(I think) GPE, if I'm even going to.
First of all, how easy is it to brick Android phones nowadays? I've got a friend who gets a new device simply to tinker with and he said it's not terribly difficult unless you're really dumb. I've rooted and flashed a new firmware on my Kindle Fire, and it works like a charm, so I'm not completely new to the scene.
Second, I found this tutorial... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2799796
And it seems to be the one that I'm going to follow. But do I need to S-Off first?
Second a, If I do, how? Firewater seems to be dead and Sunshine I have to pay for, which I would like to avoid, though I'm not completely opposed.
Second b, is Sunshine any more safe than Firewater?
Third, is there any more info you need from me? If there is, I can post within.
Have you tried changing your messaging app's custom settings? Try fiddling with your messaging app's apn settings, or using a different messaging app.
You can use the directions in your link to unlock your bootloader with htcdev for a custom recovery+root without s-off and paying for sunshine.
You can use one of the all in one toolkits floating around if you're worried about messing up, but it's not too complicated.
I wouldn't worry about bricking your phone, as long as you follow the directions, and have a solid usb connection.
Power+up volume for a hard reset, and Power+volume down to get back to the bootloader will save you if you mess up in the vast majority of cases. Staying S-ON should prevent you from changing the stuff that could truly catastrophically brick your phone.
You would need s-off if you wanted to change your phone to be the same as if you bought it from T-mobile.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2796417 might help you out too.
you should be able to flash a ruu for t mobile provided youre s-off and change CID to match t mobile carrier.
That would likely fix all of your issues.
And again, I wouldn't worry too much about bricking the phone. Just make sure to do a complete backup before you start and follow all the directions to the letter.

this is a good article to read to help you get acquainted with your phone and whats going on inside it.
Hope this helps.
Hello...today I wanted to root my ZTE Speed N9130. However, due to the fact it is a rather obscure device, I've been having problems finding anything on how to root it. I've tried all the common methods and they all failed. I've also tried kingroot, which also failed...what's the deal on why nothing is working...it's irritating me to no ends and I've gotten no good answers.
The difficulty high in this one is!

Man I'm right there with you, I've had this Speed for a while and I'm finally getting around the resources to be able to try and root it. I haven't had a whole lot of luck with it entirely myself, I first tried to get it to root sometime last year I believe it was and tried all those same services myself to no avail. HOWEVER! This morning I did manage to get KingRoot to punch through and finally root myself, it failed several times at first and then I remembered seeing somewhere that someone said taking out the SD card if you have one in it would for some reason make a difference- so I tried that and between the app on android and the desktop download I managed to get it to it through in the first try or two.
Now the drawback so far with this is I haven't managed to get the root access to stay open, it's only been temp so far and therefore shuts off after cycling power for a reboot or anything, but at the same time this is the first time I've ever tried to personally root a device so I feel pretty good about getting that far right now within about an hours time. Hopefully this may offer some pointing in the right direction that will aid you. I'm sure someone has gotten farther than me though by a far distance considering this is my current lack of experience. Lol
I think you should consider rooting. It has pros and cos. Your phone can become a brick if it failed. Your software is also damaged. Be careful!
I had been using Kingoroot, and it kept failing. I think I used iRoot, and it seemed to work with a permanent root. I doesn't seem to support Xposed framework though...
I just bought this phone about 2wo weeks ago, & it's actually not a bad for a Tracfone. It runs on version 5.1.1. But forget specs lol. It's currently not activated, & I'm not so sure if that matters when it comes to the actual process of Rooting. I downloaded KingRoot, but I seen that before Rooting I would have to unlock the bootloader. So I followed the procedures only to stumble upon something wasn't right.. I couldn't put my phone in either fastboot, download, or recovery mode.. No matter what I did. I've tried every guide & forum, but nothing. I finally called my service provider to see if they could figure out what the problem was. They came to tell me that I wasn't going to be able to access those features until I activate the phone. (which sounds really suspicious & stupid) I noticed I can access safe mode. What sounds more suspect is that I have to pay for a plan just to activate it, which I never had to do with a phone before. Nevertheless, to sum it all up.. Is there an actual way around this craziness? I never had to go thru this much to root a phone. I honestly feel like there is no point of having an android without unleashing it's true potential. Please, any help would be great. :fingers-crossed:
I have the same phone and the same problem. Still have yet to find a way. anybody?
Looks as though Straight Talk (ST) sets it up that way. I have had other straight talk phones and have always had issues rooting their phones. In fact I have never been able to root their phones. Please someone, show us a work around solution these ST phones.
Same on net 10. Think its an lg thang...
activated my phone and have same prob...help
Funny how I have a LG Optimus Fuel that has really crappy specs and can root easily with android kitkat but this phone is lollipop and better specs and newer can't root at all. I think it is more bootloader locked and only ones that are not locked are mediocre to expensive phones from the manufacturer now. My Optimus Fuel is a Tracfone too, just like the Rebel. I doubt anyone is interested in getting this one rooted. I would not mind because when I rooted my Optimus Fuel it let me put my Micro SD Card into exfat instead of fat32, which exfat sound quality is better and boosted volume a couple db. Only thing with Optimus one is that 512mb makes the music randomly skip. So that is one reason to get the Rebel rooted but we are SOL with this device.
Straight Talk is newer than Tracfone, because Tracfone created Straight Talk. Not the other way around. Tracfone has been around the longest.

Have you tried shutting the phone off, and pressing the buttons after connecting to pc. I don't remember the exact buttons you press. I have worked on a few lg phones before and that was the only way i was able to obtain the mode i needed.
Cannot Root my LG Rebel LTE (L44VL)
I am also having problems trying to Root my my LG Rebel LTE (L44VL) too. My Backup&Restore program of choice is Titanium, but it requires that my system needs to be "Rooted" first. I couldn't find any settings to do this (even when I enter 'Developer Mode'). I've even tried several popular Rooting app tools, including RootKing and Kingo Root (Mobile Version), but they all were not able to Root my system. Please help me with this problem...thank you very much.
At the moment I really only need to backup the critical *system* files, any recommendations?
Looks like this phone is never going to get the root attention it needs. It been out about a year now since release and nothing at all. No one cares about this phone.
Have any of you tried going into developer options and turning on the oem unlock option before trying to get into download mode or anything? Just a thought guys...
As for the optimus fuel, install towelroot. open it, tap the title/symbol 3x, change the 2nd from last digit to "zero". Tap "make it rain". Should root it in literally like 3secs...

No this phone sucks without root though lol.
I've been fiddling with this phone for months, the farthest I've managed to get was a temp root, which is undone when the phone is reset. My theory is that it's possible, if done within the timeframe before the phone resets itself, whether that means pushing files through adb or shell, or flashing a custom Rom. My phone has been through a number of battles, and has seen more bricks than a brick wall..but, I'm still at it.

This phone is the same as the Optimus Zone 3, or the LG Leon, or the LG K4, however the Optimus Zone 3 seems to be its direct ancestor.
I have successfully temp rooted with kingroot 5.2.2 and oem unlock, problem is a random crash/reboot soon follows which of course flushes all the root.
We worked on this phone and the zone 3 a few years back. Never had any luck with this handset. It's another cheap undesirable that will most likely not see any development for itself any time soon.

Hello all, ran into a SNAFU when trying to root my S7 Edge. Used the tutorial this site provided (https://forum.xda-developers.com/ve...-to-notes-root-install-xposed-unroot-t3411039) and everything works great all the way up until applying the fixes to prevent the phone from nagging at me about unauthorized changes. I ran thru every step afterwards again to make sure I didn't miss anything, but after it boots, it acts fine for 5 minutes, then the icons up top change and it nags at me. I've tried installing them both at once, and one at a time, nothing is working. I found this guide quite confusing in the way it seemed to jump around, I have yet to do anything under the XPosed application, however nothing there looks relevant and the guide never specified what to do once XPosed *was* installed. Flipped thru a few pages on that tutorial looking for someone who had the same issue, but never saw anything. Any help would be gladly appreciated. It's as if FlashFire does what it needs to do then something undoes those changes.
Nevermind, was able to un-root the device. I've heard Vzw phones are a major pain to root, but I didn't think it'd be this difficult. So much for that..
