So, I've been "out of the scene" for 2 years +some months and I can't find clear answers to how I should do to get what I need. I need your help...
What I want to obtain: I want to have my LG G5 (H850) updated to the last firmware version (it should have andrioid 7, right?), rooted, and with Magisk installed. Xposed too, if it's possible in android 7. It is, right?
What I have right now: a rooted phone at FW version V10d-EUR-XX with Xposed installed (bootloader unlocked with the official method), android 6.0.1.
I don't know where to start from, since I can't find specific guides that tell me what to do, I have to ask here...
For example, do I have to reset the phone and install everything from scratch? Should I un-root the phone and install the firmware updates in the official way, or can I do it with some tool without un-rooting? Can I keep my installed apps & data? I don't know...
Thanks for any help... sorry if I'm demanding a lot, but I've always found it pretty hard to find definitive guides (or just definitive answers) in the android scene.
Well the first part is easy, use lg bridge to get the latest firmware..I'm doing it as I type..then I need to install adb and fastboot to install twrp and magical..
Latest firmware is 20x
Thanks for the reply.
So, if I already have TWRP, I can update the firmware with lg bridge and then I can simply install magisk? I thought I had read that if my phone is already rooted magisk can't hide the root, or something.
The firmware flash will take the phone back to stock..root gone..twrp gone..so install twrp through CMD window is needed..just make sure you have the magisk files on a SD card
Back to stock means, completely? All my apps and data gone? If yes, is there some tool to restore them easily after the firmware update?
And when I install magisk, if I need root do I simply have to install magisk's "root module"?
LG bridge shouldn't delete user data..I thought it did..but after doing it, it didn't..it just upgrades the firmware
Thanks. What about Xposed? Will it remain or will I have to install it again? And, since it requires root, does it mean that I have to enable root with magisk to use the Xposed modules otherwise they don't work? Like, that when I disable root they stop working?
Never used closed so I don't know..if lg bridge leaves user data alone it may leave root alone but then again it may flash stock boot image..so not sure really..
I don't mind reinstall lots of apps again as long as my pics are backed up.so I would reset phone...flash firmware..then twrp..then magisk..
Ok then, but I don't know which firmware I have to use.
For example, the latest in the list (here, ordered by date, descending) is "H85020t_00_TMO_COM_OP_0514.kdz" but it says "TPL - Europe - PL/Poland". My phone isn't from Poland, it's from Italy, and there's no firmware with that same date for Italy. Should I just use the newest one saying "Italy"? I dunno...
I also saw that, for the same country, there can be different updates for different providers, but I'm pretty sure my phone had none (it was "unbranded"). So which one should I choose?
LG bridge will automatically download the latest one for you..use error recovery
Oh, that's great.

There's update zips available in the development section. You just flash the COMPLETE version of one of those in TWRP and you're done.

Is it any better than using LG Bridge?
And would I need to make a Nandroid backup just in case, if I wanted to flash those zips, or is it safe? 'Cause I'm having trouble with that, as I wrote in the other thread...
Thanks
Ok I'm done, I updated the firmware with LG Bridge and installed Magisk & Xposed (through Magisk). Xposed isn't activating itself but that's another problem.
You might need to update again soon if Oreo comes out

Okay, this is my first thread on XDA, the reason I'm making it is there is a lots of problems with progressing to lollipop. All of this is already mentioned in the forum, but this way it is much easier since it is all at one place. If I'm doing something wrong please warn me with explanation how to resolve the issue. If I'm posting in wrong forum section please move my thread where it is supposed to be.
1. Before doing anything check if your phone is ready to get updated:
1.1 Do you have a stock Kitkat rom or at least a rom that is kitkat based, since there can be a problem with partitioning if custom lollipop rom is installed
1.2 Create a backup. Don't be lazy LG backups will not help you since they can't go from kitkat to lollipop, don't try to do it from recovery because you will lose custom recovery. Copy your files from phone including extracted contacts, and back it up online with google or some other backup providers.
1.3 Check if you have a latest touch firmware, because you might have a problems after installing lollipop and it will be hard for you to check for updates since your touch might become useless.
1.3.1 To check it go to hidden service menu by typing 3845#*802# and go under HW Device Test, then Touch Test then touch firmware version and write everything down. After that go to touch firmware upgrade and after 15 seconds compare the touch firmware version values with those you written down.
1.4 In hidden Menu you can also go to wlan test then ota setting to check if it is disabled on your phone. After that check again if there is OTA updates for your phone, and also check if there is PC suite Update.
1.5 Check your phones version if it is D802, D800 or something else, and check which rom you have installed. You can do this in settings about phone or if you are happy about hidden menu found, go there and into settings then version info. This might not be interesting or fun to do, but it will save you the trouble if something goes wrong, because you will know what to ask.
1.6 Last but not the least, before starting to flash fill up your battery, i've read some posts that say there are problems with wrong capacity shown, and a lots of battery drain problems, and only solution till now is to have a full battery on start.
2. You will need LG FlashTool and of course installed drivers for your G2 on your PC.
All of that you can get in the thread by @quangnhut123 .
2.1 Just a bit of precautions, don't forget to always copy a kdz file in to Flashtool folder and then start a tool. All should look the same as in that thread, except you should always use CSE method because with this method you will install kdz from scratch, removing everything from the phone.
2.2 You should find the kdz file which suits for your phone on site . You can check for kdz by typing in imei in check new firmware section or find the one for yourself by searching the site. v30a is lollipop open while v30d is for branded G2's.
(I've read that this site is not allowed by Xda moderators, so if I can't post it please give me info on where should we download kdz's from).
2.3 I think it's all pure logic now but lets say it one more time. You have downloaded kdz file, and put it inside LG Flashtool folder. You should now start Flashtool and get your phone into Download mode. To do this you need to hold volume up button on turned off device and connect usb cable while holding volume up. Now just cse flash.
2/3 This is troubleshooting step, if you have a problem ask and i hope this great community will help you like they did to me, and ofc I will do my best to help.
3. Now we go to rooting.
Here is the thread by @avicohh which worked for my D802.
Just follow his step by step tut and you will have a rooted phone
3.1 The only issue that might happen here is you are stuck with # and adb waiting for your phone. To resolve this just go into download mode manually.
4. Okay rooting done, now let's go to custom recovery install
It's easy as installing an app from google play by @bender_007
4.1 After installing it open the app and follow the on-screen instructions. If it fails for the first time, try it few more times, it will eventually work. (OFC. I didn't install it with only one try).
4.2 To get into custom recovery hold volume down and power button till first LG sign shows up, then release both buttons and quickly press them again. It will ask you do you want to do factory reset, press yes and yes again, and it will get you to custom recovery if you installed it.
4.2.1 If you factory reset your phone that means you didn't install recovery correctly and you will lose your data, but again that should be no problem since you have that backup from the start.
Now optional steps:
5. Install system app remover to remove bloatware from your phone. You can do it manually but this way you will have those apps backed up.
6. Next suggestion is to install a few mods if you need them. In my case I had to have a Plug and pop, since it is lost from Lollipop and I loved that feature. Here is a thread on how to install that mod by @p_a_r_s_a7
//That's all, if you have any questions feel free to ask, since there is no dumb questions, but also try to read carefully before//
Thanks to:

A lot of others whose names i can't remember. If anyone else needs to be mentioned PM me and i will add you in this section.
I will add pictures and stuff if needed
Thanks, good all-in-one thread, + easiest methods. Ill recommend it‚to others
This forum is such a mess that a thread like this is like a fresh breath of air. Every advice given on other threads references something that you should already know how it's done, or you should already have done to your phone in the past and have a certain version of it, or non-working tools that are only around for a few months until an update makes them unusable.
No wonder that most of the first-page topics, including pinned ones, have the word "brick" in the title. This should signal the forum moderators that something is wrong around here.
My phone is stock international sim-free G2, never rooted or otherwise modified and yet no one was able to offer a coherent solution of how to update to Lollipop, until your post.
So, thanks for this thread.
Thank you, that is exactly why i made the thread. Every one of those threads has everything explained, but you need to search theough 150 pages to understand how something is done. That's why i wanted to make a thread with all explanations made in a single post and to make it noob friendly since the worst thing that happens in other threads is answer like use a search you have it somewhere.
Hi,
Thanks for the thread. It really helps noobs like me, but I still have a couple of questions...
I was running Paranoid Android L rom with root, twrp and kk bootloader on My D802.
I didn't see this thread before I decided to downgrade back to 4.2.2 stock rom, and now I don't really know what steps to take.(I have kernel version 3..4.0 and build number JDQ39B)
I haven't seen an OTA available, so I was thinking of flashing new Lollipop rom kdz file. But I've been seeing stuff about using LG PC suite to upgrade via OTA so i wasn't sure.
So my main question is that do I do an OTA upgrade on my current 4.2.2 stock rom or do I download an official Lollipop rom? Can you give me a brief idea of the steps to take?
Thanks

Updating through pc suite or ota is the best way if it is available to you. Flashing kdz is the same thing but that is doing it manually while through pc auite nad ota is pretty much automatic. Anyways which ever way you decide to use be sure to fully charge your battery and factory reset acter the update. If you need anything else feel free to ask

No need to flash bootloader if you didnt flash it for paranoid android. And definitely no need to root since you can root after update.
Problems with flashing KDZ
I have downloaded Spain Lolipop KDZ file for LG G2 D802.
Have backed up everything usint TWRP> ( Presently on Optimus G3 rom v 1.4.1 with dorimanx kernel and TWRP )
I have copied the KDZ file to the flash tool. When i use CSE flash .. it takes me to the next page .. in which I click on Start which then opens up the LG Mobile support tool.
Then it shows detecting ur phone .. unpacking or extracting file .. after that shows software updating .. reaches 2 % and then shows error .. asks me to retry .
Do you know what I am doing wrong ? or the cause of this prob ?

Had the same problem when flashing kitkat kdz. Are you sure that you have pasted kdzfile inside flashtool. If that is not the problem try other kdz. That helped me
Where are you from and more specifically whhere your phone is from so i can maybe help you with finding right kdz. And btw i think you might have a problem when trying to restore that backup so if you still can backup your phone manually or on the cloud.

Hi again..
OTA update to Lollipop has failed on my D802, LG PC Suite only upgraded me from Android 4.2.2 to 4.4.2, so can anyone help me out here?
Am I missing something for OTA update? If not, then which lollipop kdz can I download for my phone so that I can flash? I live in UK and i use a 3 UK sim if that helps
but also, In the process of trying to boot into my previously installed TWRP recovery, I discovered that i have been restored to stock recovery. I have rooted the phone, but just wanted to clarify: I flash custom recovery, then bootloader/kernel then lollipop kdz?
Thanks again

I am not sure but i think that update for the uk didnt come out yet. so you can't update to lollipop yet via pc suite or ota. and you got it all wrong. first you flash lollipop kdz but you will have to try out few of them since official for uk didn't come out yet, after that you root, and then flash custom recovery.
and as previously you will be back to stock recovery after update. you have it all explained step by step in first post. i know it is a bit long but that is the best way, since i didn't want to write stuff like "you should know that" and so on. so just follow the first post and you will be happy, or wait for official uk update over the ota you will be happy too, and i guess it should come out in a month.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I'll download all the lollipop kdz's and see which one of them works for me till the UK one comes out then I'll just do a normal flash over it.
But seriously, one month for the UK ota :crying: Right now, I don't even know which is worse: Google that takes forever to release updates with so many bugs, or Apple who generally release better stable updates but make older devices laggy...
Thanks again for all the help.

its a good update, not that buggy, and be sure to fully charge your battery before the process. you should try europe open or something like that, but there is no german or uk release yet and some guys suspect it is slowed down because they found out bugs in other versions

I believe mine is an international version. Where it came from, well, I'm from the Philippines and I got my phone from a local telecom, Globe.
The flash tool said that it was successfully upgraded, but judging from the phone's behavior I think there's something wrong. My phone never started successfully, and I got stuck in the LG logo.
Hi all!
I'm new here, so please instruct me if I'm doing anything wrong.
I have a Coolpad Y82-820. It's a Chinese phone, I think.
I'm in the process of getting it rooted. ---- Was rooted before, but an update on their side (to CoolUI V24. [phone model#]. 160407) removed the root and now makes it a bit difficult to root at the moment, though I'm sure it will be done eventually. For those who have this phone, I'd suggest not to update, as this update deletes any rooting applications installed on reboot/restart.
Once rooted, I don't really mind waiting, I would like to put a Custom Rom on this phone, but not sure what options are available. I see posts about the Coolpad Note/Dazen/Shine/Rogues etc. Though nothing about this one, though spec wise it's not too far off from the others.
I'd be grateful if anyone could help with confirmations, information, on how to select a correct custom rom for this device and the steps to do. Also if there's any info on how to root this current version, even better.
Thanks!

Gave it a shot. Failed, as well. I've tried most of the popular rooting apps. King Root, Kingo, One click, and so on as well as a few Chinese rooting apps, as well. They've all failed.
The previous version was rooted with King Root though.

In that case you have to root your phone manually by unlocking bootloader. But as a Chinese phone don't need to unlock bootloader. But you need to have a recovery that can install flashable zip. Most of this phone have built in recovery. You can go to recovery by turning off your phone and press power+volume down button. Then see if there's any option to install zip.

There is an option there to install zip files. Though I do not know the process well of doing so. Most zips I have tried have failed. I did install GMS several days ago using the install zip method. Not certain if that was a good idea though...
If I can find a flashable zip then I wouldn't mind giving it a try. I've restored this phone countless times hoping to go back to factory firmware, but that doesn't seem to be the case. It seems to go back to the most recent updated OTA which makes it unable to root with regular apps at the moment.
Not sure what the closest phone model for this phone would be. If you have ideas I'm willing to give them a shot an report back in with any findings.

Then the mentioned error.
Should I have restored the phone to the most recent OTA, cleared cache, data, first etc?

Also failed.
I guess it's too difficult to root this new version/update. If only I could downgrade then it might be possible to root.

You can upgrade or downgrade your android version without rooting but it has to be official firmware. If you want to flash custom rom you'll need custom recovery installed and unlocked bootloader.

I think you didn't get what I said. You are already using updated android version. You can't update more if your service provider don't give anymore updates. And I also searched very hard to find official firmware for your device but unluckily your phone have very less information in web.So there's no one haven't uploaded any firmware or no discussion available for your device. You can though upgrade your device using custom rom but you need to have root and custom recovery .without root you can't install custom recovery.

Hahh... So after combing through various Chinese sites and using my limited knowledge of Chinese, I've got a ROM (previous version before there update), got the appropriate flashing software (CoolPad Download Assistant) and have successfully flashed it after disassembling the phone to get into fastboot.
Good news:
I am Rooted... again. With KingRoot.
Bad news:
The CoolPad has there update in the background. Found where it's stored and deleted. The Phone re-downloads the update.
A restart will probably update this phone making it un-rootable again.
Edit: Deleting the update file before immediately restarting gives an error in the update on restart, so I guess that's a good thing.
For now, I will just operate for now without turning the phone off. Though I do have the necessary files if I have to flash it again.
Rooting is the first requirement you mentioned... what do I need to do next? Download what? Compatible ROM's etc?

If you have no interest in custom rom and now you can root your device then you don't need to do anything right now.And you are saying new update automatically downloading, just in download setting select "do not auto download"or"update via wifi only"this will prevent from auto downloading update.

Not sure if there's any custom rom available for your phone You can somehow install custom twrp recovery but the main problem is custom rom availability. But I would suggest you to use xposed instead installing custom ROM.You can customize and control your device using xposed installer.

Installed Xposed Installer, but the Download section is empty.
I am in China currently, so a lot of things may be blocked. A VPN should fix this, I believe.
What things I should install. Xposed Installer is new to me.
Hi guys,
I bough a used LG G5 back a couple of days because i have a lot of love for the LG G series. I got the phone after i had a quick look over the phone when i was with the seller and i was very happy about the external look of the phone so i bought it.
I had read that there is an official update for the LG G5 to Oreo so it was a big surprise when i realized that the one i got was still on 6.0.1. What i did was come back to the house, connect to the wifi and try to do a FOTA upgrade. No luck. It said that the phone was already at its latest update available. What i did then was to do a manual upgrade with LG Bridge. All went good and the phone was updated to 7.0. After the first reboot, i got the message "Current version is not available for user....". I didn't bother at the time because i thought that after a factory reset all would be ok. Well that didn't happen . I did notice something strange. The software version i had was referring to "EU" but now it says V20r-OPT2-SI. Perhaps the previous owner had the phone rooted and perhaps that version that it had was not the official EU.
Now the OS is full off bloatware and there isn't an update to Oreo available.
I want to:
- Find the appropriate OS version that my phone should have
- Get rid of the message that appears during the boot
- Get rid (if possible) from the bloatware when the correct OS is loaded
I want to use an official ROM with no root because of company regulations where i work so, rooting might be an issue. If i do have to root, i then have to unroot it again before use.
Because i have been away from the scene for a long time, please excuse my lack of information.
Regards,
If you don't mind loosing VoLTE support for the operators your rom was made for, just delete the /cust/ folder and you'll get rid of both error message and most of the bloatware.

That is indeed a nice tip that i was not aware of but would it be possible to know if i am able to flash a rom carrier independent in order to be able to upgrade afterward to the Oreo? If so, how can i find out the version that i can flash without damaging the phone?
Thanx for the help so far.
You can flash whatever rom you want (of course an H850 one, never try to flash a H830 or H860 ROM on the H850!!!). If you want to upgrade to Oreo having an Open EU stock rom, follow these instructions: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/development/stock-h850-30a-eu-rom-flashable-zips-t3850072
If you follow colsely the instructions and charge the phone before proceeding, there's virtually no risk of damage (avoid flashing form a desktop pc in a stormy night, of course).
FOR MOTO G7 PLUS ONLY!!!
Hello, everyone.
I created a .bat file "executable " For those who want to flash the stock rom on your Moto G7 Plus.
Just put it in the stock Rom folder along with the fastboot files and run the file.
For those who want the file, just download it by the following link or download the file that is on the thread.

Could you share where to get the Stock ROM fein?
---------- Post added at 11:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:25 PM ----------
Tried the same sequence with a Stock ROM last week, but didn't achieve to get back to original ROM. I always get the prompt in the initial boot, that a different OS is installed than the original. This has the consequence that I cannot upgrade wit OTA anymore. And there is an upgrade already available (Jan security patch)

any one have a flash rom.bat stock rom for moto g7.......

What was the problem that you asked again here today?
Latest Stock ROM RETAIL at that link is the one we have all been using.
You'll need to download it to a computer, unzip it in a folder with the fastboot/ADB files, then fastboot flash it with phone attached in bootloader mode.

I guess that the software channel was reteu.
A second moto g7 phone I bought - and is unmodified - says "software channel: reteu".
The information on the package of my phone says XT1965-3.
I flashed this image already, the result is a 'working' system except for the message at the start "Your device has loaded a different operating system." .

Yes, you said: except for the message at the start "Your device has loaded a different operating system."
After unlocking bootloader there is some message like this on starting device, keep in mind we all got these too and everything is fine but we like to cover it up with a different bootlogo, just looks better that is its only purpose. This message is because you also upgraded the firmware, meaning it's not really a different OS but only a different version of your correct OS.
Does that also mean that OTAs will work? That banking apps will not complain about the integrity of the system?

For G7 Plus we are not getting the OTAs properly after unlocking or rooting, I was originally rooted on PPW29.98-28 and repeatedly got the notifications of upgrading to 29.98-66-2 but it kept failing, the only way to stop it was freezing the Moto Update Process using Titanium Backup. So my only remaining option to upgrade was to fastboot flash the full firmware, as you just did, it wipes your data but gets you to the same place.
With future updates we may be able to capture them and then a dev can make them into a TWRP flashable zip with no wiping of internal data. We had that on G5 Plus which was a nice thing and they are still doing that. But until that might happen the best we can do is the same for now - when your channel has an update just get it from lolinet (these are all official stock firmwares there) and fastboot flash after backing up your data.
Usually it is more from the rooting (if you did that too) that may mess up your banking or other apps, but in Magisk there are settings that may work on that, you'll just have to try and see but there are mixed results. My choice is to not use banking apps on my devices anyway even if not unlocked or rooted, I just do it from home on a computer that I won't forget and leave out in public somewhere. :crying:

So you expect that in future my phone will be OK again? And receive OTAs while having Magisk installed.
I tried indeed to Magisk my phone, as I did with my old OnePlus One.
Which leads to TWRP, but then I discovered that the recovery has disappeared on this Moto!?
Then I was lost, and read about A/B and treble(?).
Concerning the banking applications: Even if I handle the banking transactions on my Mac, I still need the banking app on my phone for authentication.
Which is also true for accessing my medical data (GP, hospitals, etc), insurance companies, taxes, etc.
Last question: Is there a full description of how to magisk my phone?

Sorry not to reply yet, I sometimes have other things going on besides my phone. Also I thought I gave you a good answer on the situation, based on what I know as just another user (not a dev, not with Moto).
Yes, there have been changes since your last phone, it was the same for me. So it's good to find out as much as possible before deciding to unlock & root again, because the results may not be like before. We used to unlock and flash TWRP directly but we can't do that now or maybe brick the phone. It is always the risk when choosing not to remain fully stock/locked/etc as when you bought it, and with that is a responsibility to do the research first and not just expect other users to tell you every step.
So I don't know if things will change, but for now we can't get OTAs anymore after unlocking. For me I didn't mind and I am willing to upgrade manually if that let's me work with the device the way I like with root & using custom ROMs etc. I didn't plan to ever go back to how I bought it and don't need banking apps or other types that rooting might mess up. For others that may not be the case so they must learn the situation then decide for themselves.
As for installing Magisk, now we have TWRP working enough to just put the Magisk zip on your SD card and install it in TWRP. Before we had a functional TWRP we had another method by installing Magisk Manager and using it to patch the boot.img then fastboot flash that, but it's not needed anymore since TWRP, just do it the old way now.
Flashing the roms from lolinet, in my case ( RETEU[/URL) is a complete reset of the phone, I assume.
To flash, these steps should be right:
Copying the firmware to sdcard.
Boot in TWRP
Flashing the lolinet firmware.
Delete Dalvik Cache.
Should TWRP and Magisk be reinstalled immedeately after this procedure? Or renew the developer mode, reinstall twrp and magisk?

It won't work to flash full firmware in TWRP, so far the only way is using fastboot with phone connected to a computer in bootloader (unlocked) mode. Unzip firmware into your fastboot/ADB folder and also the batch file available in this thread, then run the batch file.
Yes this will reset/wipe your phone (except for SD) so backup your data first, and it will be like when you first bought it. You can reinstall TWRP and then Magisk, but boot to system first and set things up including enabling USB debugging setting in developer options again.
I am going to try and update now as the notifications are much too annoying.

Can I use a different retail code than current stock? My phone is XT1965-2, PPW29.98-28, RETLA. The system reminders are all in Spanish. Could I update to PPW29.98-66, EEGB (UK English) without a problem?
Also, if this is possible, could I update by removing the 'fastboot erase userdata' line from the BAT file, or, due to the language change, would I need to leave that line and do a factory reset?
Lineage installation on N200 REQUIRES that you are running Android 11 or phone will soft loop after installing the Lineage boot.img
If you are updated to Android 12 firmware and want to install Lineage, you MUST downgrade first to:
DE2117 OEM Android 11 FINAL OTA
WARNING: This WILL erase all user data.
1. Place the firmware .zip file in the user root of internal phone storage.
2. Sideload OnePlus firmware Downgrade Tool on phone and use tool to flash the Android 11 firmware.
There is an Emergency Firmware install tool that OnePlus posted to the OP forum that does NOT check root status when the need to downgrade back to A11 was first acknowledged due to modem issue with first A12 OTA release.
This file was removed in a few days when they posted the official Downgrade tool replaced it.
I have used this tool to upgrade DE2117 C_16 to DE2117 C_17 while rooted and the built in upgrade tool failed at 37%.
Nice, first thanks for the hard work you're putting in. Second, is there an advantage to converting first to DE2117 then installing lineage as opposed to just installing lineage from DE2118 that you know of? I know in the other post you answered my other question stating that the Lineage will install on either so I wasn't sure if I'd get any benefit from starting over and converting my DE2118. TIA

Lineage is using own kernel and boot.img on A11 so in the short run it is not going too make any difference, but when Lineage moves forward to A12 the OEM Firmware has newer drivers and is updated sooner, has more OEM features and bugfixes as well as no carrier bloatware.
It is possible that OP will neuter the Carrier firmware with an OTA update to prevent cross flashing device away from the Carrier rom in the next OTA update by preventing fastbootd from flashing the us oem from a carrier phone.
They have already removed fastboot boot command to boot a boot image without flashing it for test before you flash and to allow Magisk to make a backup of the original boot.img before adding Magisk.
I would convert NOW, before they decide to slam the door on this ability with a future OTA that will not allow you to downgrade and prevent this as they are under contract with the carriers to not allow this to be done.
Ok, thank you for the explanation. Guess I'll back everything up and convert it.

Just place apk in phones working directory, same path where your downloads folder is. Then install from there like any other apk and run. I also kept the FW file in the same directory but I'm not sure if that was necessary.
So, just to confirm, I press "local install" and select the firmware zip and it closes? Is the tool supposed to do anything else or am I good to flash LineageOS?

Ummm if I remember correctly hit local install and then it will prompt to point towards which FW to use. After you hit it, it will go back to the previous screen, I think verify and unpack it, then install it. Mine did appear like it was doing nothing after picking the FW and so I picked again which screwed things up so just wait after picking, it should start.
After its done it will give a message saying to restart phone I think for it to take effect, then after you restart it should ask to wipe phone, then restart again and you'd be in A11 presumably. Once in A11 your good to follow the normal procedure to install Lineage. This is all from memory though so I MAY have missed something but I don't think I did.

Nothing major, caused the UI to glitch out and made it seem like the process was stuck at 81% but when I closed the app and tried to do it again it jumped to 100 and said to restart the device.
I've downgraded a second time (I'm very indecisive on which OS I want to use) and that one went as expected since I knew to give it a second to start doing its thing.

Weird, for me it just closes the app and does nothing, both the official and emergency ones. I even tried adding it to magisk's deny-list.
But I just restored the boot image via magisk (didn't restart) and it works now...

Did you remove root (Restore boot.img) and then factory reset?
You will loose all data doing this anyway.

Yes I factory restored the phone and tried again. Still fails every time
Has anybody had any luck figuring out the verification failed message? I too have tried both the official and emergency apps, of course I can't read the actual message in what I presume is Chinese, but it doesn't do anything and the other version says verification failed. Have not rooted. Kind of at a loss right now and all I want to do is install Lineage! I've already got my unlock token from OnePlus, but my understanding is that the phone still needs to be on A11 before installling Lineage.
