Carrier crossover...? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have the S7 edge from t mobil, G935T, and would like to move over to verizon, but they say I cant.
I was wondering if the reason for this is a hardware, or software issue. Can i root, and install 8.0 oreo, or do i have to buy a new phone that is capable of working on all networks? I love how t mobil didnt make me aware i was buying a phone that locked me their network.
Sorry for the newb question, but i cant find specific answer ti this question by google, or youtube.

hi,
What you experiance is a Netlock. every carrier can do that over a Smartphone to only access their network.
BUT with some Dollars every Carrier/provider gives you an unlock code to cancel the Netlock.
search first on the Homepage of your Carrier or go to a store and ask.
After this verizon should be no problem.

Ok, i really dont want to give anymore money to t mobil, is there another way to unlock my phone for all carriers?
Would rooting, to remove t mobile software, and installing 8.0 oreo get me away?

Xperia X10 At&t unlock

Hi all, I am really new to this forum.
First of all I would like to apologize if this is a double post.
Can some one please help me unlock the X10 from at&t.
I would always unlock att phones by calling their costumer service but they were not able to generate or give me the key to my X10 for some reason. I wonder if there is another way to unlock the phone so i can use sim frm other carriers.
I'm interested as well =)
Is there a free way to unlock phone from AT&T ?
Firstly, the search function at the top works wonders guys, this is one of the most widely posted issues.
There are two solutions I see frequently:
website htccode.com
user lancez on this forum
as i mentioned earlier im a noob in this forum. I could not find anything with the search function either. Could you please elaborate on the user lancer you mentioned.

Don't take No for an answer from AT&T. By law, at least in the USA, AT&T has to give you the unlock code 90 days into your contract. Just gotta ask for it.... so they say anyway. Try taking it in to the store. The other ways, like Lance, cost $30+. AT&T should be FREE!

With a custom ROM you have UNBRANDED the phone but not unlocked it. Unlocking it means that you can put any SIM card into it so that if you travel to the EU or other GSM areas you can get a local SIM card much cheaper than an international plan for ATT.
It also doesn't mean that suddenly you have new wireless frequencies either, so if you put in a T-Mobile sim card you won't get their 3G/H or any EU 3G/H.
Some people have reported that your phone will show ROAM when on ATT after unlocking but this shouldn't be a problem as you are a ATT contract holder.
Don't worry i will help you to Unlock Your Sony Ericsson Phones from Network Lock,You can use the Unlock Code to unlock it from Network lock,But you can get the code from Online site...You can get the Unlock code from the site www.simpleunlocking.com and Unlock it......They get the code from Network Data base and provide to you.
for codes you can contact your service provider or can get it from online providers

Why don't you read a thread or two in the General forum, come back and tell us what you've learned?
Hint: you can't "unlock" it. There's a bootloader exploit for a limited number of phones with a very specific firmware revision, unless you have a Developer's Edition.

I don't understand how the lack of responses could be "killing you", I mean, seriously?
Hint #1: THE I545 is not sim locked. You insert the T-Mobile SIM, configure the APN, and it'll work.
Hint #2: There's a "Search this forum" box. Type T-Mobile. You'll find the answers you seek by reading those threads.
Its killing me because i really want to use this phone. I tried entering my sim and apn stuff but nothing works.
I even called Tmobile and they said the sim card is fine, it could be Verizon blocking it. Which can be true because the first time I put in my sim, it was working and showed as tmobile but now it doesnt.
So should I flash a rom, would it work if i flash a Tmobile rom?
If I should flash a rom, do you have any for my model?

No, you can't flash a T-Mobile ROM. You really need to read this sticky thread to help understand what's possible.
As I said, there's lots of threads providing directions for getting the i545 running on T-Mobile. You can find them easily.. there is no need for yet another thread about this.
Hm, I have been reading the threads. But all of them had a point where there phone can make calls and what not but just couldn't go on the internet. Mine can't do anything, I don't really see anyone posting anything about it.
My sim card works with everything else, its just this phone which is making me go asjdhasldkhlasdhk
If I'm not mistaken if the phone was paid off properly and is free from a contract then you should be able to walk into VZW and have them carrier unlock it for you. If he didn't pay off the phone then it's technically a phone with a bad esn and the first part of this post needs to be fulfilled.
Is there anyway where I can force Unlock it? He moved so I can't really go to him and ask him anything since he lives in China now.
Is there anyway I can get rid of the bad IMEI or ESN number? I heard flashing it to like HyperDrive can help.
Legality?

I actually believe this is illegal no?
Anyway, look into registering new APNs to your phone, the VZW GS4 SIM is already unlocked across carriers.

NO. No, not right, NO. Wrong. Incorrect. Invalid. Incorrect. Input rejected.
Do I make myself clear?
I'm getting tired of repeating this, but THE SCH-I545 IS NOT SIM LOCKED. It is not locked. It does not need to be unlocked. What you are saying is wrong, incorrect, invalid, unnecessary. You don't need to unlock. You get it always unlocked. You don't need to unlock it. Nobody needs to do anything to unlock it. It's not locked.
Do you get my drift yet?
The Federal Communications Commission required that carriers getting access to the 4G spectrum not lock their phones, so phones like the VZ Galaxy S4 are not SIM locked. Any carrier's SIM will work.
Comments like yours send people down a time-wasting path. It isn't locked. Why spend time unlocking it?

I brought this phone over craigslist.
I put my friends T-mobile sim for few days to see if phone gets recognized, so that i can ask t-mobile to unlock it. But seem like T-mobile will unlock only when the account from which it was bought asks for it.
Sorry man you may be screwed, craigslist buys never seem to go well when it comes to carrier unlocking.

will Flash Stock unlock my device?
Only way it'll unlock is if the ESN is clear on TMOBILE site http://www.t-mobile.com/verifyimei.aspx
If it is CLEAR then thats when you can buy your code from the only site that sells legit codes. https://www.unlockbase.com/phone-unlocking-service/tmobile-device-unlock-app-official-unlock/
IF you want to do it free, you can call tmo and ask them for a code, etc etc

I bought my phone online, and this is what you do.
MAKE SURE THE PHONE ISNT ROOTED!!!
1) Flash back to stock (because stock has the TMobile Unlock app)
2) Call TMobile and tell them the phone is fully paid off and that you spoke to someone at tech support already and they said you could unlock it.
3) They will ask you if you have an account I said no, and then they will ask you for the IMEI and if you want a permanently unlock it (say yes) and they will give you the go ahead to unlock it through the app. (probably ask for your email and such to send you instructions on how to use the app)
4) The app is pretty straight forward but if you need help the steps are in the email.
5)Profit:victory::victory::victory:
That's what I did good luck

There are already 3 threads like this. We do not need a 4th. This is the solution here, which I have given. You must first meet the criteria that T-Mobile sets for us, and no you do not need to be the original owner nor do you need to be stock. I was rooted at the time. Stop wasting time on other unlock sites. The link below gives you the thread and solution.
Good luck

[HELP] Bootloader still locked as of 2018-03-03 ... so, how to do certain things ?

Hello from Switzerland,
A few days ago, I made a little-big mistake : I bought a second-hand LG G5 from AT&T, the inglorious H820 ...
The question is then, should I keep it or resell/return it ?
I need some help to decide what to do, hence this message.
The main interest for me was - and still is - the "photo quality" this Phone delivers.
And if I read well some posts here and there, the app provided by LG is the best one for this phone, better than ported ones from other builds or photo apps on GooglePlay.
=> a) could someone confirm that the best photo app for quality pix is the one provided by LG ?
As of still today (2018-03-03), the bootlader cannot be unlocked and certainly never will because this is done by LG Developpers and there is no interest in making an "old" bootloader unlockable for LG "heads".
This means no "custom recovery" with TWRP, no apps requiring root access, no "better" wifi eventually ... and so on.
No big deal for me as my main concern is debloating the phone more than anything else and keeping it updated for security reasons and keeping it update with genuine patches supposed to solve eventual issues. (The phone is old and these patches should be out by now).
=> b) If TWRP cannot be used, what is the best solution for the fullest backup and closest one to TWRP ?
Holo/Helium ?
Or is there a new/different way to do the fullest possible backup/restoration thing ?
LG G5 H820 seems to be still running on MM and at least other models such as Verizon and EU H850 should receive this year Nougat.
=> c) Will there be a Nougat update for the H820 as for other types (=H850) ?
=> e) With the end of developpement of this phone, will security patches still be provided ?
Thanks for your attention and help in deciding what I should do with this "particular" version of LG G5.

all of your questions can be answered if you put out 5 minutes of your day to google them.
And what do you think I've done all day before posting ?
Knowledge is always evolving ... and who knows ... maybe some nice guy will have a less "geeky moderator" approach to my message.
All I need is either confirmation or hints to know what to look for.
And this can be answered in less words it took you to answer "Google it"
Thanks.
it does have nougat
security patches will likely happen for a few more months, but i imagine not much longer since nobody cares about this phone
i dont backup anything. its just a phone. auto save your pictures to google and screw the rest. you cant do a full backup so why bother with a partial one.
best camera app for me is the stock one (nougat). ive tried others but they have weird issues. stock app always works and the quality is good.
if you want everything youre asking for, this isn't the phone to do it. As a stock phone, its wonderful.. but trying to modify anything on this is a joke. I did get wifi tethering to work with the settings database editor (playstore), and i was able to remove the stupid ATT address book popup... but thats about it as far as mods go.

Hi Resinis,
Thanks for your reply.
You're right ... Pictures and other personal and unreplacable things is what really matters.
The bootloader thing + root is not for customizing ... it is more more for debloating and convenience of usage is some particular change of setting goes wrong AND ... fop apps requiring root eventually.
Thanks for "nougat" info.
I'll see when I'll receive the phone ... it will be "keep it or resell it"
Have a nice day,

If you don't use ATT or ATTGo, then the phone (H820) will not update. But, you can buy an ATTGo phone sim card on ebay for like $3. Once you get the sim, go to ATT's website and activate the sim card. It will ask you to enter in some info... you can use a fake name if you want but you don't need to. Once it gets to the option of which plan you want, just pick whatever, it doesn't matter ($30/month plan is fine). Then it will say "activated! now go to payments page to make your first payment". Then just close the browser and that's it. Pop the sim card in your G5 and wait about 10 min before you try to update the phone. It should start taking all the updates, and eventually put Android 7 on it.
The sim will remain "active" for about 20 days. After that, the system flags it due to non payment and then its dead. It can't be used for anything besides updating the phone, because you didn't put money on it.
I agree with wanting to root so you could debloat this thing... I wish that was possible... but it's not and generally I don't think it matters... just disable what apps you can, and the couple ATT apps that can't be disabled are just left as is. Oh well. Phone still works great.

You can download T-Mobile's firmware from LG to upgrade your phone. AT&T have their own server to host the files.

I would still spend the $6 on an AT&T SIM and give it a shot. I am in Canada and activated the SIM I've got off E-bay on a $40 plan that includes roaming. My updates work.
Would it be because the plan I've picked has the Canada & Mexico Roaming option? Not sure.

Would it be because the plan I've picked has the Canada & Mexico Roaming option? Not sure.

dont know. did you actually pay for the plan or did you just activate it?
At&T SIM
No, I just activated.

You can download T-Mobile's firmware from LG to upgrade your phone. AT&T have their own server to host the files.

So, can we download and install the Oreo update for TMobile h830 on our at&t h820?
Does this let us obtain root as well!?

I didn't see anything on the entire Internet confirming At&t pushing Oreo, can you please post a screenshot of the software version on your phone?
Submitting from my phone, hope it uploads, if not I will jump on a PC

H932 unlocking. I have the codes but...where do I put them?

So I bought the codes to unlock my phone, but I only get the option to enter one code when I put in a different SIM card, it says "code successful" and absolutely nothing changes.
I flashed back T-Mobile stock 20s and can't seem to find the hidden menu to type in unlock codes. "Dr. Sim" told me to type in 2945#*Your model number# at the dialer screen and that gets me nowhere.
Is this something I can access from shortcut master?
Edit: So I'm not sure where to go with this. When I type in the code, it checks it and says "unlock successful" and then promptly does not use my new SIM card. This code was called the "Network lock" code." I have received a second code for "service provider lock" but I find nowhere to put this code. I can't access any sort of hidden menu on Lineage or Havoc, so I don't really know where to go from here. On any of the stock roms, I have simply nowhere I can put the code in, as far as I can see.
Halp?
I've read in other threads that for the t-mo phones you want to use the t-mo app (that comes with their stock os) for unlocking. Anytime I've talked to t-mo, be it phone help or at the store, they say 'use the un-lock app'.
So I've always assumed if you have a t-mo phone, you better unlock it **before** modifying it, else you'll have to go back to their software (if u can), or be stuck with t-mo from then on.
No offense to t-mo, that's what I use, and don't see myself leaving. But if u wanted to ^^^^
Cheers

Financed phone so unfortunately I can't do that.
Oh well, back on eBay. Chazz was right - not worth the trouble

Sorry. In cases like this I would love to be wrong.
Whenever I'm wrong, wonderful things happen. New stuff is discovered, like WTF Oreo bootloader unlock exploit.
About a year ago... "There's no way that's real and no way LG was that stupid." I never said that out loud, but I sure thought it a couple of times until @TxanMoe proved it. I wanted more information, but I was very skeptical. And being wrong was fantastic! Now WTF is what most all the development of V30 series is based on.
I do often wonder if LG (or someone inside LG) gave it to us on purpose. An exploit like that is so hard to believe. And I thankful for it.

I'm just amazed T-Mobile somehow circumvented every possible way to unlock it via codes.
I'd consider an Octopus box just because it pisses me off lol. I don't know if proving a point is worth 200 clams.
Your phone if rooted can be sim unlocked. I have sim unlocked two h932 devices for use here in Nigeria, both currently on 20s

You had bad IMEI phones?
He rooted the phone. That wasn't the problem. He just got no signal on another carrier, which meant it was still SIM card locked to T-Mobile. Carrier unlocking was the problem.

My IMEI was good. Just couldn't get it unlocked via the regular T-Mobile application.

Can you please tell us what you did to unlock it? Without the Device Unlock app, using root as you said.

Yes, @0x0null, please clarify for us. You SIM unlocked them yourself? Or you used 3rd party unlocker?

I used a third-party unlock service on eBay. Tmobilekiller or something, But that was after root. The listing was originally for the LG G6 H872.
To use the application I modified my model number from H932 to H872 from build.prop
A z3x box or miraclebox should do the trick but i have neither

Thank you for that. So it was an app, not a code. Makes sense: They created an app (maybe hacked version of T-Mobile's app) that performs the unlock without querying the TMO servers.
Thanks again. This could be very useful to others.

It is a Microsoft Windows based app. I think it generates and writes the unlock codes, then kills the T-Mobile unlock application.
