Hello,
I'm about to get my SGS-II and I don't know where to get started.
I've tried to search threads but there's no sticky which states about rooting or Bootloader unlocking. Just few questions.
1> Is there a thread for BL unlocking?
2> Do we have any failsafe or BL or are the phones brickable?
3> Where do I find how to root?
4> There are SO MANY Roms, I'm confused which of them to choose. Everything appears to be the same. (are they from the same Samsung Roms? Tweakked etc?)
5> How do Install CWM recovery?
Any video tutorial links or anything, that's needed are appreciated.
PS: I read FAQ & stickes. Just letting you guys, I did my homework

1. No need BL are not locked
2. These phones are not as sensitive to bricking. Just make sure to follow the directions carefully.
3. The easiest method is cf-root. More info here
4.All custom roms are derived from samsung roms and have unique theming and tweaking options. It's really gonna be up to you to see which one suits you best.
5. CWM recovery will be installed automatically once you flash the cf-root kernel
Thanks for your reply.
1) I'd like to know if we have OC/UV kernels ? Sorry, I'm coming from xperia x10 and I've got no clue where to get started
2) Do we have GPU Overclocking?
3) What is vodoo mod? (Sorry never had it for x10)
Thanks for everything. I just wanted to be organized in my questions for better understanding!

If you unlock your bootloader the official way, you can install a lot of roms around here, but you will loose warranty and the DRM.
There is also a way to unlock it via testpoint method, you donĀ“t loose your DRM
I unlocked my bootloader the offical way, i dont use DRM, and i can install all that wonderfull custom kernels here, many of them make your phone much smoother and safes battery, thats why i unlocked my BL
If you have unlocked bootloader you can flash a kernel only, like KRsH Kernel ICS 3.0, this kernel will root your .587 on first boot easy way to root yout phone, but remember you need unlocked bootloader and this will void your warranty and you will loose DRM (depends on the way you choose to unlock your BL)
For me, i prefer this way rooting my stock FW.

sure bro. am not tired of reading.. jus lil confused .Dats y i created thread specifying my device's configuration hoping some one will exactly post how to root it
You are the rude one by acknowledging that there are guides out there and decide to open a thread instead of doing like everyone else did, search, learn, search some more, act. I rooted my phone 3 days after getting it when there was half of the guides out there atm, and with little to no knowledge about android, and i am not some sort of super-genius, i can assure you that.
Here it's all explained along with a nice android dictonary http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568792
And this is a thread started by mihan especially for noobs (and it starts by saying "i know there's lots of guides but people keep asking so here's one more") http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1568792
As a matter of fact you got bashed by pretty much everyone who replied.
The info is all out there, if after all that you still don't underastand what root is or have doubts about it perhaps it's not a path you should follow.
As zeppelinrox says "calling yourself a noob is no excuse, do like everyone else of us did, search and learn, it's all out there", if you encounter problems following root then people will be there to help, but your thread sounds a lot like "guys, how do i power on my phone? i can't be bothered reading the instruction manual" and that is rude, disrespectful and demotivating towards all the people who took time to make the aforementioned guides (btw, i only took the first two sticjkies of this post, and all is explained there, there's no need to search further).

Hi I just unlocked my ATP and I want to flash a custom a rom. Can someone give me few steps that I can follow to help me achieve that? I have just unlocked and I am unrooted. I haven't done anything else. Just give me the steps and I can find the guides for those steps myself.
Thank You.
How you unlocked it? I used "unlock device app" and it couldn't complete due error network. thanks

Good on you for explaining you'll find the guides - they're all around the place and very helpful. I used this one when I unlocked in December:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1998359
Basically you unlock (using Asus tool), install custom recovery (TWRP recommended) and flash one of three JB ROMS floating around (Wookie, NRG, CM10.1).
Good luck. Last piece of advice is read lots, take notes, reread then take the plunge.
Hello,
I am currently using the Samsung Galaxy SIII GT-I9300. Bought this device last April. At that time I was completely new to rooting device. I didn't know what to do. I searched online about rooting device, read many post by users in various blogs and threads here in XDA. Then I was very curious to root my device. But even then, though i knew what rooting was and its merits and demerits, i had no idea how to root my device. So I started searching again for an easy and fast way to root my device. Then I came me across the framaroot thread here and thanks to the developer of Framaroot, I was able to root my android safely without any problems. It was a very useful app for beginners who had no idea about rooting.
After few months, I received a firmware update. I had no idea what changes it would bring about in my device. In a hope to find out the new features, I updated the firmware. But sadly, there wasn't any noticeable change. So once again I seeked the help of framaroot to root my device. I was left with an error message and didn't know what to do. Again by searching on Google, I came to know about the OTA update about which I had no idea prior to the firmware update. I realized that the OTA update was a curse to Android rooting and I was left with my boring stock rom without anything. Today again I searched all over the Internet for a very safe and easy method to root my device but couldn't find anything like the framaroot. So here I am kindly requesting, the deveopers to kindly update the already existing methodsor make a new easy method to root android devices so that people new to android can experiment and enjoy root features. Sorry for the long story, thought it might be useful by explaining everything in detail. Hope I have not violated any of the XDA rules. If I did, I apologise for that too but please don't remove this thread. It would be very nice if anyone can find a solution as there are many people in the same situation as I am right now.
Thanking XDA and all the developers for there services.

Thanks for the post. Nevers seen this before. I will surely try it out. I have heard about odin before but was not confident to use it as I thought it may brick my device. Is there any root apps like Framaroot that can help make the process a lot faster and easier without the use of a computer.

1- Its the fastest and most reliable method I femilliar with- just follow the vid orders step by step (according to your device model), and no harm
should be made (unless you plug out your device in the middle of the process, or using a different model type- but even those can be resolved).
2- No apps that I know. Although i would not recommend it even if I found one- just seems too riksy than using the computer...
Basically all the OP questions are answered in the faqs and guides .
Root is constantly updated as and when possible but its not a simple question of just making a new one . Read the relevant root threads .

If it was only that easy on S3 would save a lot of trouble ..yep follow instructions in thread and use PhilZ .tar.md5 not the zip file and if you are flashing CM 11 you do not need to root the rom is already rooted.

Hey guys, I have a little problem I tried to find the solution in other posts, but I didn't found it, so this is my last hope... I hope you can help me.
So I have an Asus Memo Pad HD7, and I rooted it using framaroot 1.9.3, then one day it appeared a firmware actualization in my notification bar, I updated NY android and then after some days I just wanted to check if the unroot option in the framaroot worked, well my mistake it worked to well, after I clicked I rebooted and them the supersu was gone and I had unrooted tablet again, but when I tried to root again it told me it was rooted and then after reboot it wasn't... I can't root it again
The weird part is that recently I made another firmware actualization and supersu appeared magically in my phone, I tried to start it, but it showed an error saying my phone was unrooted... then I uninstalled supersu and tried to root again, but I can't...
Please help!
P.s: I didn't instal any rooms and I already tried factory reset in settings.
P.s.s: The weirdest part is that people say they unrooted to do a firmware update, while I did it with my rooted tablet. And Avast says my device is running in high privilege mode, but Root Checker says it's not.
Please any help will be appreciated!
Without knowing which firmware you are on now, it's not really possible to tell you how to reroot correctly.

I provided the link to what you need already. It's on the 2nd post of the thread. It has a step by step with pictures. You need to unlock the bootloader and install the custom recovery so you can install the superuser zip. If you can't follow the picture guide, then you should really enlist the help of someone who does this for a living since this is your only tablet and are very unsure of yourself.

I reread everything and I think I now understand what I need to do. Correct me if I'm wrong: unlock the bootloader, flash the custom recovery and Install supersu.zip. Can you tell me how I install the supersu.zip?
Thanks for everything.
