Since 128GB it more than enough for me, and I use 2 simcards so no microSD slot, is there a way to make a partition as an externalSD?
I want to use that partition to put my TWRP backup, not get erased when I did format-data, format-system or factory- reset.
Thanks ?
not a bad idea sure, literally you can do what you want in terms of repartitioning, but (and it's a big fat "but") did you have had some thoughts about how to access this partition then? you need to mount it. twrp won't know this partition and therefore won't offer a mount point for it (unless you compile your own recovery with a special fstab containing this special unknown partition, including mount point).
it's nothing noone can do, it's possible but you need some indepth knowledge for this, it needs some work with the sources, compiling work and testing. 10gigs should be enough space for a full backup.
Mod vendor rx?

GGrea idea! I'm having worst luck w/ v30+ & sdcard!
Anyway I would start w/ the Vendor Repartitioning thread. I would imagine editing the shell script. I had 2 format the vendor part more than once to be usable. I would say the previous poster mayb correct. I don't think it would hurt to try! Just BACKUP ur PARTITION TABLE 1st!
Good luck & let us kno the reaults!
when you're done, post it here, i'll be happy to compile you a twrp with this partition enabled hint: you need to give the partition a name.

Hey Guys!
This is my first post here in this section. Just bought a brand new HERO off ebay after many months of frustration with my laggy Diamond
I've been doing some pre-reading on getting a ROOT & so forth..LoL
(still waiting for my HERO to be delivered though)
So Anyway, this is what i gathered from doing some reading here
1) Root it - Link
2) Install Modacco Rom - Link
3)Update Radio - Link
Got a Question:
> It says to do a WIPE before installing rom. Does that mean formatting the MEMORY CARD?
a wipe means "factory reset" and will not format your SD
Modacos ROMs have Apps2sd on so make sure you partition the SD card correctly. If you use Amons recovery image v1.2.3, there's an option to format the sd card into the right size partitions. I highly recommend Amons recovery image

Seconded about Amon's recovery image. I'm trying to write a new script to support resizing swap/ext3 on sdcard instead of the preset 500MB.

Hmmz, cant i use a Partition manager on my PC? Like Partition Magic? as long as the Ext2 partition is less than 1.5GB
Suppose you can do, but seeing how you're gonna need to use a recovery image amyway, amons does it all for you, remember your apps partition needs to ne ext3 which amons recovery also does

Yeah i worked it out ended up using Amons.
How do i now what size the EXT3 and Swap partitions are?
& with Apps2SD, when i install an app from the market, does it automatically install it on to the SD?? how does it work?
Sorry guys, my first android phone after years of Win Mo
Last week something burnt out in my Streak, it wouldn't turn on, so I needed to send it to get repaired/replaced, as a little data insurance I took a dump of the internal SD card (just using dd in Ubuntu).
Now O2 are replacing my Streak, so I'll have a new one with a different IMEI, etc, and I don't want to open this one (I only opened the other one as it was an emergency). So I'm looking for help on restoring the backup I've taken without opening the phone, and once done, leaving it in a warranty-friendly state.
Obviously the first step is going to be rooting it, but what then? Is it simply a matter of copying all the files? Just thinking that might cause conflicts due to the new IMEI.
so i've got a similar (but reciprocal) problem... i had a malformed update.zip that pooched my internal microsd's system partition and the streak won't boot at all... I have a nandroid backup and i've pulled the internal microsd to find an empty ext filesystem that mounts just fine when I plug it into a linux laptop, but there's not a clear mapping from the system.img that I have and the contents of the accidentally wiped system partition...
SO, two things would fix this....
1. someone could send me a link to their raw 'dd' image of the system partition (~200mb)
2. or, I can keep figuring out how to use 'dd' with the system.img that I have to get the same results as the 'flash_image' tool...
would someone be so kind as to speed me along on this by giving me their system partition dump (1) or quickening my learning curve on (2) so that I can restore with the flash_image formatted nandroid dump of a working system partition???
Please, please....
I know i need to extract them with unyaffs.exe
But i can't find where my camera photos stored ..
Please navigate me to the path ...
Motorola Atrix 2.3.4 device.
Thanks.
Nowhere, they're on the SD card (/DCIM/)
So they are gone ?
I stored them at the internal sd, not in the external sd.
Internal SD... ah, sorry: the Atrix has built-in memory... I wasn't aware of that. That depends on how it is accessed... I still wouldn't expect it to show up in Nandroid backups, but if your lucky it doesn't get formatted and you can still retrieve it. The question is, what device is this internal storage and what filesystem does it use.
Can you still mount the storage on the PC? You should be able to retrieve most of your images even if the drive was formatted using a standard photo recovery tool
I just full wiped everything .. all the storage places too and intsalled new ROM.
OK, i can do that , which revocery tool should i use ?
It's been a while ... I think I used this one:
http://www.z-a-recovery.com/digital-image-recovery.htm
The free version is enough for image recovery.
Thanks
Just recover some of my images ...
But i can't get the full library from the nandroid backup? what information do you need?
I know i can just restore the nandroid backup ... but it will do trouble ... diffrent kernel from my preset rom..
Any ideas?
?
Sorry for the late response, But I just stumbled upon the thread. I had the G2x. The internal memory is just like another SD card. Just that it's not removable. What's backed up in a Nandroid is things like the /data, /cache /boot /system and android.secure partitions. The internal memory is /emmc. It doesnt get formatted in a wipe (unless you say so) and it doesnt get backed up in the Nandroid. Otherwise, your Nandroid backups would be EXTREMELY large.
hello everyone.
I'm sure some of this been answer before. I been reading all nabi2 posts here and i still cant find answers to some of my questions. So please don't get frustrated with me. Just trying to learn.
1. Dose anyone know how can I dump original image of my nabi2 recovery.img before I write a new one? Where is recovery image located?
2.Can I delete "factory reset" back up to gain more space on my nabi? Or is there any way of utilizing more space on the nabi?
3.Is there a program/app out there that will let me move data to SD card and free up space. or did this concept died with android 2.1?
4.By backing up my /data /system /and /boot it that all there is. If I wipe complete internal storage is it hard to rebuilt it? is there a way of seeing complete 8gb of storage under windows?
5.Can I install other recovery TWRP? like CWR?
** Just want to say thank you to JMZ and t499user and few others as I did learn a lot from post publish here.**
Thank you
I have been doing lots of ROM / Kernel experimentation on my VZW S4, and on attempting to take a backup of my most recent good configuration I received an error from TWRP that there is not enough space available because there is not enough space for my /Data partition which TWRP sees as 2438401MB or 2.4TB!
Since it is impossible that my on device /Data partition is 2.4TB, anyone have any suggestions on how to repair?
Or do I need to do a full install via Odin using the repartition option?
Thx.
Wow, it would be cool if you had 2tb, umm sounds like the recovery is corrupt, if it were me, I would try that first, if it does not work, do the odin flash to stock.
Good luck.
I reinstalled the TWRP recovery, and also reflashed a Verizon stock image file...but TWRP is still reporting my /data partition at 2.4TB.
I'm thinking I need to repartition, but have never done so on an Android device.
Recommendations?
I would try reading the odin features and what it does to re-partition. It has that option, but messing with the partition structure will cause a hard brick if not careful.
good luck.
Okay, I did an complete factory restore using the image from the following thread and now have a properly sized /data partition.

Whew.
Thx.

hehe you got off easy...good deal.
Can you tell TWRP to do its backups to the SD card rather than internal memory?
Thinking about getting an S4 but w/only 9GB free, would like to keep my backups on the SD card I'm going to get for it. I know I could move them there after creating them, but don't want to deal with having to move them back and forth if I need to restore one.

yes. thats what i do. However, I was using TWRP to backup my aokp rom that i set up and it wouldnt back it up and read the size would be 16gigs. However, my slim rom backup just fine without reporting a huge file size.
