WebKey or alternative advice. - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, XDA.
Just wanted to get some input on a conflict that I am currently having with the WebKey app on my Nexus 6p.
In the past, I haven't had trouble on Android N using Webkey. My phone is rooted on Magisk v16.4 and every other app that requires root will give the pop up asking to grant permission.
When installing and reinstalling WebKey, it downloads like any app that doesn't require root access and just asks for permissions to location and nothing more.
I have tried multiple times with no luck just wanted to see if anyone has any experience or possible solution for this issue.
In addition, I have done some research but haven't found anything that's entirely free to connect remotely to the device that isn't paid or function as well, including TeamViewer and Airdroid. Any input or additional recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Bump. Really would appreciate any input.

I don't know if it's the same problem, but here I'm experiencing some issue too.
Webkey used to work well before the May 2018 update. I have it installed in my Asus Zenfone 2 Z00A, with root.
But after the update, it doesn't connect anymore. In the main screen, I turn it off, then on again, and it says "connecting" for some seconds, then "offline" again.
Then I downloaded a previous version of Webkey in it's website, but unfortunately it doesn't work neither. But it's not the version I used to have previously. Apparently it's a version older than that. The version I used to have I can't find anymore.
Default restored my device, rooted and installed Webkey again, and no success.

[Q] NT-SD CM7- Google Play Videos won't work b/c "rooted"

I've just tried to download my first rented movie on Google's Play Videos. I got the error that many have gotten for a long time "won't install on rooted device." I know that the OTARootKeeper exists for truly rooted devices, but my Nook isn't really "rooted," right?!? because it's still the original NT, just booted with Team B's SD Card CM7 most recent release.
My question is, should i used OTARootKeeper to allow me to download rented videos or is there a better way to handle this "bump in the road" of not being able to download a rented moving?
I am a noobie, however I've done lots of looking on line as well as searching forums and reading about past people's challenges with Google Play (Market).
As a final note, I do want to download b/c I want to watch on a plane flight vs stream through YouTube or watch live streaming.
Thank you for your help in advance!
To address the first part of your premise, your device is rooted.
Root means "root access" i.e. you have access to the root directory of the device. What you and many others think it means is "stock rom rooted" but this is a misinterpretation of the meaning "rooted." Your device is running CM7 which happens to be a "rooted" rom. In fact, the official Cyanogenmod team has decided to make future rom releases "not rooted" on upon initial flashing, though root access can be gained by toggling it in developer settings. I have even come across "unrooted" custom roms, meaning that they are custom versions of android, but much like many manufacturer ones, root access is not enabled "out of the box."
Now as to using Google Videos, I believe voodoo rootkeeper does not work for this purpose anymore. I think there is an app called "Super SU" that allows it, but I don't remember the exact setting you need to toggle to enable it. I'll report back after I test on my tablet.
Edit: So this is the app you want to use. In it, go to settings and toggle "Enable Superuser." You should then be able to use Google Movies. When you're done, just go back to SuperSU and toggle that setting again.
error --
Thank you so much first for the Rooted clarification and second for the SuperSU install information. Once I download from SuperSU and open it, I get the following error from SuperSU and am not sure what to do about it..."There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem!" Help please!
I am having the same issue on my Nook Color. I've tried SuperSU but it fails on the binary installation. When I try using Voodoo I get an SU Protected error.
Am I missing something? This process is usually brainless and I really would like to rent a movie through Google Play to watch on my trip.
Any help on temporarily circumventing the root issue would be greatly appreciated. Is this a CM7 issue?

still needing help - pretty please!
EDITED: I'm wondering if a solution from another post may work for this challenge. Some people have had trouble downloading certain apps so they edited the build.prop to remove any "Nook Tablet" and replaced it with "XOOM" and said from that point they didn't have any trouble downloading. Unfortunately I'm not quite enough of an expert to know how to edit the build.prop on my device, so I'm wondering if someone can help me figure it out. cheers!

how do I find what still needs to be changed? Kingroot worked...sorta

In an effort to get one of the 'tap and pay' apps to work for me, I un-rooted my Mega. After a few days of experimenting, I decided to re-root the device. Being a lazy person, I used one of the 'one-click' apps, King-root.
I'm pleased to report it evidently worked; root-checker and other apps report the phone is rooted.
However, when I attempted to use a favorite app, Root Call Blocker, it gives me a message that it is not rooted..
How can I find what still needs to be changed? It seems like a registry issue if I were using a PC/Windows.
It works fine with Kingroot...Try this version of Kingroot and see if it solves your problem..

Got it, thanks. After dumping a bunch of un-necessary apps to give more available memory, the Root Call Blocker works fine now.

help rooting Rand McNally Overdryve tablet

Hi, I would be grateful if someone could help me root and install a custom rom on this device. Please refer to the 3 images showing detailed information about my tablet.
Thank you very much for your help.
hey did you ever get this rooted?
Hi guys. I am also very much interested in root for this device. If we manage root on this it will become extremely useful. Please lets keep the thread active. II havent been in this forum for a while now as I didnt have an android device since I sold my Note 5.
I suggest we contact any of the forum members who are advanced in these matters to assist us with the root for Overdyve.
I'm Interested as Well
I'm going to try to dive in and see if I can figure out rooting my Overdryve. Since they don't seem to sell too many of these, I think we'll have to figure out how to do this without a nifty app. If anyone has any thoughts/pointers/useful articles, perhaps they'd share them.

I agree with you 100%. We really need to stick together on this and help each other out noting that these devices are very few. In the event we are unable to root the device is there any other way of enabling Google Play Services without requiring root? If I can get support for the Google services I will be good to go. Currently most of Google apps are not supported. Thankfully Google Maps works as I absolutely needed this to work as the Rand navigation software is not located in my country. I bought this to use away from USA and so far the most disappointing issue is that Rand disabled support for Google apps.
I will read widely and support you where I can.
I bought the Overdryve 7 a few days ago and there is literally NOTHING out there to help Root it, install a custom recovery, or how to install Google Play Services. I have tried rooting it with KingoRoot and King Root but to no avail. I haven't resorted to such generic methods to root anything since Towel root. This is why TWRP is essential to have.
Bump :fingers-crossed:
Edit: Please delete. Wrong thread.
Still nothing new
I have the Overdryve 7, and 8 Pro... hoping that someone out there much smarter than I has been working on this. Eager to make these thing earn their cost back.

overdryve 8 pro, been rooted for a while now, but Id like to get the OTA updates that ive missed over the last year, and i keep hitting a snag on the OTA verifier...
/system/bin/install-recovery.sh has ben modified... sha1 doesnt match...
there was another file too, but when I rooted, SU made a backup of the other file so i just switched it and it passed SHA1 check.... but SU didnt take a copy of this file for back up...
any ideas? ive tried changing it to a .bak but then fails becuase file is missing....
anyone have a stock 8 pro, unrooted ever, that they can turn on just USB debugging and try to copy the file original file out for me thru ADB debug if possible?
Or anyone know the ile contents for that file on Android 5.1.1 build LMY49I/N8_1_0_170516_275
I wanted up load more detailed specs.... I also have the new OTA update zip, like I said it just goes too error tho because the install-recovery.sh file sha1 doesn't match because I have rooted, and SU remove root and factory reset do not return the original file
Oops file is here

Malware filled phone?

Hey guys, how are y'all doing?
Here's a little background on my problem:
A year ago bought a cheap-ass smartphone for my mom, from a big supermarket chain in my country that was selling french phones cheaply, it was only 60€ and my mom needed a phone, so there it is!
Anyway cut to the present, the phone is riddled of what I suspect is malware that installs itself as soon as I remove it such as Free Games, com.google.toolkit, MiniChrome, N62Androidpt, System Component, adservice, and a couple others.
It also keeps switching wi-fi off, and turning on that option that allows apps to be installed from unknown sources, and worst of all it keeps opening the phone in built browser with adds, and even porn sites on occasion, which is really not desirable as my very young aged nieces love stealing the phone and try to use it.
I installed malwarebytes, also did a factory reset to no avail it fixed nothing.
So I decided to flash a stock rom to see if I could get rid of it, searched around and found a repository of stock roms or firmwares or whatever it's called (I'm not too familiar with this side of smartphones), which I'd love to post, but apparently can't because I've last than 10 posts: doc-doapi.com/EM/selecline/smartphone/
It has a lot of roms for different models of my brand.
Used the UpgradeDownload - R2.9.2015 tool that was in that folder and flashed it successfully.
After I turned on the device it opened the new phone setup process, logged in to my google account, and restores my stuff like contacts, and a few trusted google apps from before the flash, but it soon started again to install those malware apps I stated up there on it's own, and it was soon in the same state as before...
Anyway here's some info about my phone that probably should've gone to the top.
It's a Selecline phone
Model S4S5in3g
Android version: 5.1
Kernel version: 3.10.65
Compilation number: S3S5in3g.V1.2_20160307
At the back it has a sticker and another model number 870712 which I used to find the folder on that repository of stock roms.
And that's all in a big nutshell, anyone has any tips?
Thanks.
lil' bump
Do you have login credentials for this Auchan website where you found the ROMs? It is asking for a login ID and password. I need ROM for Model S6S5IN3G.
Quick tip for getting rid of Malware even before they start. Go to Settings and check Data Usage. See which apps are using lots of data (downloading junk into your device). Note if there are any strange sounding apps that are downloading a lot of data, especially if it is not an app that you yourself were directly using.
Next, flash the stock ROM again. Once you flash the new ROM, you have to find a way to root the device. Try KingRoot. Then after the phone is rooted, go to Playstore and download SD Maid. Run SD Maid and give it root access. In the settings for AppControl of SD Maid, allow it to show system apps. Then run app control and freeze any strange-looking user apps (or anyone that was downloading a lot of data) and system app that are not required.
Please, let me know about the website and how to access the ROMs.
As mentioned before, install a clean room again. Copy virustotal app from the attachment of these post (https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77053739&postcount=11) to SD-card and install it. Turn wifi on and let it run. Control every app and the system-apps. Post a screenshot of the findings. If there are findings, then the room is infected. The only way to deal with this, is to root it, install rootexplorer an kill the infected app. This can be dangerous, if for example, the lauchner is infected, an alternative launcher must first be installed and set as default, before you can kill the infected one (otherwise you will own a useless phone until you flash it again ;o).
Hey guys, thanks for trying to help.
I tried literally everything before, I've even somehow got a kitchen up and running and I removed everything that looked suspicious and all those bran add-ons from the rom, but even then I'd still get infected.
I didn't really try the antivirus route though and to be honest I already shelved that phone, but I'm kinda bored, so I'll try y'all suggestions, an extra working phone can always come in handy.

Upgrading problems on Samsung P7510 tablet to Marshmallow

I'm trying to upgrade my Samsung p7510 10.1 tablet from Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4 to either Marshmallow or Nougat, or better. I've installed TWRP 3.1.1 and rooted with SuperSu. I've had to assume root has worked as can't download root checker onto my tablet.
So, far I've managed to find a version of Marshmallow "ROM-STOCK_MMB29K-seed.zip" on androidfilehost.com. But when I try installing I keep getting error message "Updater process ended with signal: 4". I've wiped the Data, cleared the Cache and Dalvik Cache. Also searched the internet for info on the signal 4 problem but not found much other than to remove the "assert" line from the updater-script file in the OS zip.; that did nothing.
So, a few questions:
- Anyone know where I can get OS zips from for a Samsung P7510?
- And any ideas on resolving the signal 4 issue?
- Any other ideas?
P.S. The only reason I'm updating is I want to use it for Kindle but can only reach HTTP sites, not HTTPS. Assumed that is because it's so old that everything is out of date. And that stops me from downloading anything from just about anywhere, including Google Play.
P.P.S I have searched the forums but couldn't find anything helpful or with links that worked.
Thanks in anticipation
Might I suggest the stabelest ROM I've ever run on my P7510. I've had this installed on mine for over a year now. There are of course some minor bugs.
The signal 4 issue is most likely a Binary issue and should no longer be relevant since you should reset the device to factory and start over. Another thing is once you Root it you can't download from Google play because you now have an unverified device, it has something to do with Google Pay. You'll want to look for APKs. Although SuperSu is usable, you're going to want Majisk insted. I hear of some problems using SuperSu.
I have these files here in my PC if any of the links no longer work but you'll want to know how to flash it so you'll need the video. I'll check back soon and drop a link to my files. if you need them. I'd need to upload them to my Google Drive first.
If you have any other difficulties I'm usually here about once every week.
P.S. Your tab is better than a Kindle and I would not suggest using it as such, it runs pretty crappy that way . Amazon does have an app you can use. And I see that you have been having difficulties finding Operating Systems for your tab and yes it's because the P7510 first hit the market in March of 2011 there aren't many people doing much with it anymore. There's about 3 or 4 of us left.
Firstly, thanks for your help @Casper Young .
In particular the video was brilliant. I did have a few runs at the update, however, the process was very straightforward. The key issue was the TWRP version I was using. It was supposed to be for the P7510, but realised it was actually for the P7500, consequently the aosp files weren't loading. I think that was also the cause of the errors I was getting. And although none of the links were working I managed to get the file names from the video and sourced them from androidfilehost.com:
twrp2870-20150814-p4wifi.tar.md5
aosp-7.1-p4wifi-20170506.zip
Once I had those it was simple and the update worked smoothly.
I've also added the app from apkpure.com as Google play was a complete pain trying to get the tablet recognised. Now very pleased with the build and apps, all running very smooth.
thanks again
Glad you had no problems. There are some minor bugs. Flash doesn't work for the camera. And check your memory capacity. I use Apex Launcher for my home screen which organizes better for me.
