Hi There,
Has any L9 (P768E) users managed to root their phone?
Could any kind soul out there help a fellow L9(P768E) user?
I know there is a root method is for L9 (P760 & P769) but when i try it on my L9 (P768E), it just doesn't work.
I've tried numerous times to root my L9 (P768E) with Bin4ry's method provided, however it always failed.
The root process always ended at "Running" and it does not move on to the next step.
"Please look at your device and click RESTORE!
If all is successful i will tell you, if not this shell will run forever.
Running ..."
I also notice that when i click to "Restore Data", it ended as soon as it started. Which i guess there aren't any files saved? Or its just that fast?
There is also information about downgrading the phone's firmware but that is also not working and seems to apply only to other versions of L9 (P760 / P769)
Here is my L9 (P768E) info:
Android version: 4.0.4
Baseband version: L6260_MODEM_SIC_01.1230.00
Kernel version: 3.0.21
Build number: IMM76L
Software version: P768E10C-SEA-XX
Model number: LG-P768E
I really hope any experts in this forum could advise on a method to truly root L9 (P768E) version. Cause while the rest of the other L9 users are blessed with root function, the ability to move apps to SD and offer with other new developments to do more with their phones. I'm stuck with an unrootable version and its such a pity.
search "root lg l9" all forum, you will find many posts. in fact before opening a thread like this, its better to search first.

Hi cmahendra,
I checked and found many post as well and in fact i did try your method of downgrading and rooting of the L9. Although your method says that it can root "ALL L9" but apparently, it is not working for SEA version of L9 (P768E).
That is why i started this thread in hopes that other users of L9 (P768E) can share and help fellow L9 users out. Not to be selfish keeping to your own and while the rest of the other L9 users (P760 / P769) enjoying the benefits of rooting, moving app to SD and custom recovery. How about the rest of the L9 users? Especially those who have the SEA version of L9 (P768E)?
After all this is a community to help fellow android users. Just because you make progress with your L9, doesn't mean you need to shut others out.
Echoing help for p768e
Hi XDA guys,
I just recently got the p768e model for LG L9 from my SEA carrier/supplier.
I've been trying to get it root for about a week now but all scripts just keep coming up with the "mount: permission denied (are you root?)" error.
I've tried flashing an earlier version (p768e10b) rom but it still doesnt work.
Currently trying to flash p768 rom to try rooting again.
Really wish for any developers to look into this particular model and find an exploit for p768e users
Thanks in advance.

Hi Ziggyy,
The current root methods that are available will not be able to root our P768E model.
Even though they may "CLAIM" to root "All L9", apparently it is not. So far i've only read about P760 and P769 being successfully rooted. P765 maybe some but not P768E. I have tested all those method myself.
As Quoted by zanakorus33; "Until now all E roms are unable to be rooted normal, LG encrypted recovery only 100% method is to downgrade but I think earlier, root able version is not available for ur l9. "
Like you, i also hope that the developers in the community could help us with our L9 (P768E) model and hopefully there might be an update to their current root file to support L9 (P768E) models as well. :fingers-crossed:
There are too many L9 threads but mainly for L9 (P760/769) and developers may over looked or ignored our request for help.
Therefore i started this thread for L9 (P768E) users and hopefully we can help one another.

Well no one on XDA give you guarantee but if you have aksed me in that forum, I may have replied you with rom which can be rooted P768E. But it looks you are not interested to talk. What anyone else can do for that? Ok I give you a hint, I dont know which rom version you are trying to root (coz you never informed us), but you need to downgrade to V10A rom and yes it can be rooted.
BTW I started the thread by testing on P765 asian hardware, but according to many users who discussed this with me, they used same method with various L9 variants with various versions of roms (and confirmed too) to root their L9 (P760, P768) too. Few experts could root P769 too but there is very less information because LG have not given them FOTA version on their server. So, Good luck and will be good if you interact with all.

cmahendra,
1.) It is zanakorus33 that replied my enquiry not you. Please don't flatter yourself. I never ask for your help.
If you are talking about this reply from you; "search "root lg l9" all forum, you will find many posts. in fact before opening a thread like this, its better to search first.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/site...root%20lg%20l9"
Then its better that you don't reply at all. You are just being rude and offending.
Seriously, if i have not read through almost 200 pages of posts regarding L9 in this forum, do you think there is a need for me to start a thread here?
Not everyone is an experience android user like you, just because you make progress with your L9. That does not mean or guarantee that others are having the same progress as you. For your info, your downgrading method does not guarantee root as tried by myself and other P768E users.
Since there is no guarantee then why are you claiming that your method will work for all L9? Have you read you thread title? Aren't you contradicting with what you are posting here?
Do spare a thought for those new users. After all we just want to make the best most out of our L9. I've notice there are new users asking you for help and all your answer is exactly the same as the one you post to me. You are just being a jerk, you definitely do not deserved my respect as a senior member.
If you really cannot offer any genuine solutions. Please keep your comment to yourself or better still don't comment at all.
2.) You said you don't know which rom i am using? It's strange that everything is written in the first post. Apparently, you didn't even read my post at all.
3.) This forum does not revolves around you only. There will be other options to root L9 so don't think that everyone must follow your method and start to bad mouth about others who can't get root using your method.
If you cannot be bother to help others, don't stop other people from doing it.
Just want to let you know that I already flash all P768f variant (V10A, V10B, V10D) but no luck with root. I'm flashing back my V10D stock rom for now and wating for new method to root my phone.
I also try flashing P768 (from Philippines) and success rooting it. But my 3G data is not work, I can only use Edge. I think it's because my provider and phone hardware frequency support only 850MHz (Thailand). Not sure.
There're some difference in my P768f and P768, may be your P768E is the same.

Hi Artit,
Thanks for the info, i've tried with P768E variant (V10B & V10C) as well and also no luck with root too.
Just P768 model itself already has different types (P768 / P768E /P768F) with different roms. I do agree with you that there may be some difference the P768/P768E/P768F sets. That's why some P768 users may able to root while others don't.
I'm also looking for other options to root this phone. Since there is no guarantee that downgrading the rom will ensure that your phone will be rooted. Why in the 1st place should we downgrade our firmware just to root our phone and end up upgrading it again? Surely rooting for android can't be worst off than jail breaking apple right?
Even rooting methods for Samsung or Sony phones are straight forward, they don't require so much trouble to root. Why made it so difficult for LG phones right?
Perhaps we just need find other options or wait for the developers to update their root programs to support more different types of LG L9 so everyone can root their phones directly.

You are blowing this way out of proportion. If it doesn't work with your model/ROM, then post the issue in a specific manner, and the working dev will probably look into ways to get said issue resolved. Going into a pseudo-English rant won't really solve much of anything .

Hi AwesomeTurtle,
The main issue is already posted in the 1st post, if you haven't notice. How specific do you need?
Do you own a L9 P768/P768E/P768F set? If so, did you managed to root your L9? why don't you share with us a solution?
Rather then just coming into this thread and start another useless post bashing new members? Is this a common practice among senior members? Or there are just that many jerks in this forum?
Just root my P768f and it's seem everything works.
I try downgrade from P768f (V10D - Thailand) to P768 (V10A - Philippines). Rooting it but my 3G not work. I noticed that my 3G gone after I did factory reset after flash. So today I flash Vietnam (V10A) rom and after phone boot I just root it without factory reset. And everything works fine for now.
There're some init parameters that not match my phone when factory reset. Not sure is there some functions that may not work. I have to test it for a few days.

I was just reading this and got an idea did u tryed to root and get back to your stock version and then try to root again?
I mean that u can try to use ota root helper make root backup but not un root phone, restore your stock rom with working 3g, using emergency mode in kdz (Wich is not deleting your setting and data) and then try to restore root?
Or even downgrade rom with working 3g for u and check option to restore root while ota, if there is ota upgrade available. I would give a try if I were on ur place
Example flash Philippines version, root it, secure root, re flash in kdz using emergency mode to working 3g version 10A, check ota root helper status is there a secured root, try to update while ota, maybe root will be restored while it is not rom or version of rom dependant.
I know I have strange ideas but maybe some of it will work.

I just reverse back to unroot stock rom for P768f. After try to flash almost other variants but found that no one make my 3G (WCDMA/UMTS 850) work. So I'll wait for proper way to root my phone or UMTS2100 from my provider (which may come mid 2013).

Hello brothers, I have a little doubt. I'm really loving the LG smartphone, since now I'm thinking about changing my LG optimus g PRO, for G2 LG ls980. Well, I had read many topics on this model G2, and say there is no unlock for it through IMEI, now my question is: Is it possible to unlock LG LS980 G2 via IMEI, and android 4.4.2?
Another question: how to put android 4.4.2 ls980?
I await your response, and if I can help much better. Thank you very much!

I also came from an optimus g pro... Are you saying that you wish to unlock it to use on another carrier? Or root it? If you don't have a custom recovery installed, you should be able to take the ota to get 4.4.2. Its much easier to root when on Kit Kat. Use TowelRoot. Its literally a one-click-method.

I am pretty sure you are speaking about doing the sim unlock, now yes it is true that it cannot be unlocked via imei but there is a way to unlock, you can ota to kitkat or you can grab it from here and then sideload it from stock recovery afterwards just follow this guide to do the permanent sim unlock
p.s. all questions go in the q&a section
I am writing this on my SIM unlocked LG G2 LS980 working on AT&T. 4G speeds aren't that wonderful, but it is working well otherwise. I didn't do the IMEI unlock; I simply followed the instructions that you will find by searching the threads. Sorry I don't list the redirect. I too fell in love with this phone after purchasing one for my son. I'm using it more than my Note 3!

Yes, help! Cricket has released the Moto e xt1021 to Walmart and the bootloader is not supported for unlock. Please, this is a nightmare! It doesn't work right and it has 4.4.4-7 on it already! The people of Walmart need help. This is a disaster!
Any idea why Cricket/Walmart have this policy? Is there a link to a statement about it?
I just bought a Moto-E from Ting and unlocked the bootloader without a problem. Return the phone and sign up with Ting. It is potential a cheaper option anyway.

At&t owns aio /cricket. At&t refuses to participate in Motorola unlock program. They are a real stick in the mud. Well, that's fine. We don't have any rebels here anymore. I suppose the days of doing things like this just to say you did them are coming to an end. Maybe Sunshine will update. I hope AT&T GOES OUT OF BUSINESS. I am a humble ewok, I am no match for the Death Star. All I can do is put my phone in airplane mode and throw it at them; like a rock.
Sunshine may support it when the 3.0 version comes out.
Is anyone willing to experiment with their phone a bit at the risk of bricking it? PM me! I wanna try to get this thing rooted.

I got one of these today. It goes back tomorrow to be replaced with one that is NOT Cricket (AT&T) or Verizon. I got it for $52.00 after tax and it would be WELL worth the extra cash IF any to get one that can be rooted. AT&T might as well merge with Apple. It is a match made in Hell.
So...
Bump, with info.
What about this? http : // blog.azimuthsecurity.com/2013/04/unlocking-motorola-bootloader . html (I would have made it into a link, but I'm new... all I did was add spaces)
I don't know much about phones but if there was a way to issue a command to blow the appropriate q-fuse, it should (in theory) unlock the bootloader right then and there, allowing the whole rooting process to happen... I just don't know what commands to issue or how to do so. Could someone smarter than I am please look into this? While I'd rather not brick my phone I'd be willing to test a couple of things if need be... (Moto E second gen). The author of that post seems to have actually been successful in unlocking a bootloader that way, but I don't have such extensive knowledge.
I spent a good two and a half hours with Cricket, going around and around. They are NOT owned by AT&T, they just use their towers. Or at least that's what two different representatives from some call center said. *shrug* I still think they're in bed with each other, so they're still crap any way you slice it.

I just bought a Moto-E from Ting and unlocked the bootloader without a problem. Return the phone and sign up with Ting. It is potential a cheaper option anyway.

Because Cricket belongs to AT&T, and AT&T are the spawn of the devil.
If it's good for the consumer, AT&T are against it.
I feel like we can get somewhere with this article:

I've tried downloading the code, installing Python, and executing the script, but I get a syntax error on line 45. I know practically nothing about Python, so I'm stuck, but I'm hoping there are some expertise here that can help.
Help unlocking bootloader for XT1021 Cricket variant
Has anyone come up with a fix for this? I have the same problem - replaced my broken older Samsung with a gently used Cricket variant of the Moto E XT1021. Seems like this is the only one that Motorola will not allow the bootloader unlock? Anything to be done?

How are you with technical stuff? I'm by no means a developer, but I posted a link just before your post (see post #14). I understand the concepts, but I can't tell what's going wrong in my Python execution. If you can visit the Git linked in that blog, I've posted an issue in hopes that the original developer might help, but haven't gotten any love yet.
Sorry if this has been posted before; I've seen some posts dealing with rooting a Canadian LG G5, but not for the 7.0 Android version and H831 kernel version together.
Simply put, as a complete noob to the world of rooting, is there a relatively safe way to save a backup of my phone data (flashing, I think it's called) and of course, to root my phone? There's no lack of methods shown online and some for other software versions, but I'd rather err on the side of caution before proceeding with one type of root vs. another.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
There is no root for the LG G5 of the H831 model variety. And there probably won't be any, any time soon.

I appreciate someone responding, even if it's not in the affirmative; thx.
