I got a Mediatek ZH960 tablet with Android 6.0 on it.
The tablet is rooted but I can't find a new Rom to mount on it.

I too have the ZH960 device (I have six devices), but it has a hacked Android 4.4.2 on it, claiming to be 5.1.
I would love to have your Android 6 ROM and scatter file.
Did your device come preloaded with 6.0?
Could you please upload it somewhere?

It seems, there are many versions of a "mediatek ZH960". I've got one with ipad shape, Android 8.1.o, baseband MOLY.WR8.W1315.MD.WG.MP.V54, 2018/01/02 15.01, Kernel-Version 3.4.67 build Wed Apr 10 22:21:00 CST 2019 and build nr ZH960_vEN70S0_20190410.... Is there any alternative Android version?

got the same w/ 64gb storage but can only access 16gb. any ideas?:crying:
That's normal. Don't "count" on the numbers given by chinese hardware dealers. There is a lot of alternative facts in those hardware descriptions....even the "Andoid 8.1" is a simple Android KitKat 4.1 or so..

The tablet has data connection problems, as it only connects gsm .... and therefore edge.
It is not possible to set the network menu preferred by mtk engineering and it tells me that 3g is off.
The wifi connection however no problem. Only the data connection management module can be updated
or suggestions for solving the problem?

Is there a newer ROM possible on these tablets? Mine is KitKat (if you tap the version number it gives itself away with a K despite being "8.1'). I've tried using adb tools to unlock bootloader not had much success yet. Not managed to root using the MTK Droid Tools, so no chance of a custom ROM firmware or recovery like CWM I thought. But to be honest it may be possible as the bootloader menu is accepting a possible zip from SD card - question is - which recovery will work. Instructions are vague and haven't found one which I'm brave enough to try yet.
I just bought a sample ZH960 from China, and was planning to buy them at quantity. I was promised it would be running Marshmallow (6.0). I immediately noticed that the home screen was KitKat, and ADB confirms that the API level is 19. So it can't run the app I was planning to ship on it. I have more samples coming from other companies, so hopefully one of them will be for real. In the meantime, is there anything I can do to load Marshmallow on this one?
By the way, in the Settings, it says it is running Android 7.0....

Yes, I am successful in rooting dapeng i9877 following Colonelzap instructions.
Plus, I was able to use Link2sd to link apps. Must use Ext2. It won't recognize Ext3(just let everyone knows).

I have this phone and I dont have many complaints. I sold my Blu Studio 5.3 to buy this one. For a non contract phone its awesome. Do I want a GS3 YES but I dont want the contract with ATT or who ever. So I have their prepaid service, unlimited everything and 1gb of data for $50 a month. AND early next year when the new china phone comes out I will grab that one. I really like the freedom of switching phones.
I do wish I could find a rom now that I am rooted but that may not ever happen.

I also followed the tutorial, but now my phone is soft bricked. It flashes up the logo and then just keeps rebooting. I need to find some firmware for this device. Any help would be great. I would hate to send the phone off to china and pay for them do it, when I have the tools here to do it, but just need the image.

I found an IMAGE to sort out the phone for now and it works. The only thing is that you have to change the language back to English or whatever you wish. The LED flash light does not work now, but that's fine. At least it's booting back up now. Everything else works and there's Root, and other tools that come with the ROM.
I used SP Flash with the normal scatter file that comes with SP flash for MTK6577 chipset and hotlinked the files from this archive.
I contacted my seller to see if he can sort me out with a untouched original ROM that's on the device when it comes from the factory.

I followed this guide and it worked but the su permissions seems to be wrong
I have to run titanium backup to fix it every time I boot the phone
it complains about wrong su permissions and it fixes them

I finally brick my phone . I was trying to root my phone but...
I am having the same problem with yours.It flashes up the logo and then just keeps rebooting.
I did follow your steps and download the files from the link you gave but when I'm starting SP Flash Tool cant fill up all the files with the locations.Some of them are missing.
Can you please make a tutorial or tell me what I have to do? I have no cellphone now

if I could, but not how.
the recovery (power + vol down). it's all in Chinese. the truth I have fear of doing something wrong. if someone translates all the recovery, I loved climbing the rom.
or save someone I have to do, I do enchanted
you can use MTKdroidtools and connect the phone to the PC without using the recovery

I have been searching for a sure and easy method but to no avail I can't follow the thread coz it's too long :laugh: I guess I just have to wait till bina4ry release a new one covering this device

I felt like you until friday when I rooted my phone finally. At least you can find your phone in the forum whereas mine doesn´t exist!!!

Thank you very much. I'll wait. I can now work without the tablet. You are my salvation. Tablet was a bad ROM flash, I need to flash it completely with preloader. Does not fire even mod recovery, only when you plug a USB into the computer finds as MTK serial port.

Don't worry you can use a flash tool for flashing the rom...I got the rom..but I am yet to upload it...Anyway I will be doing it soon...

Ok, you have made several of these posts throughout XDA, so I have deleted all but this one.
A "Google" search came up with this link;

Hopefully they (after you register) have the ROM for your device.
XDA does not have listings for "Clone" devices, unless a user has the same device. And depending on popularity, depends on if anybody can help.

As the recovery seems to be corrupt and I have general lagging, I would like to reflash.

I seem not to find any definite answers and I wouldn't want to risk bricking it.

I am basically a noob, who has tried every possible method to remove the china malware apps from the tablet my mom bought off from ebay. The tablet keeps installing some sort of app in the background every 10 minutes, named ASYSTEM, which then runs ads for porn or games or installs unwanted apps in the background and after an hour or so, the tablet becomes absolutely unusable.
Below are the specs of the tablet I copied using MTKDroid Tools:

I have tried the MTKDroid tools and SP Flash tool, but everytime I try to select the "Recovery" option while trying to "Download" the rom image created from "Readback", it doesn't allow me to select the same.
As for using flash tools, I have tried using Kingoroot, King root, iRoot, Framaroot and a lot of others which 'assured' root access, but failed at around 70-80% mark everytime. I have been trying to root this for about 1 month now to no avail.
I am literally at my wits end with this tablet, and am turning to the experts here for help. How can I Root this tablet and if possible, wipe the custom android and install another rom?
Please help a noob kindly

My stumbling block is trying to find a custom ROM and/or firmware for it.

Found 2 apps which has system wide permissions -
com.android.system.service
com.qsoc.rebootmgr.whhy
asystem, which gets auto installed as soon as the tablet is connected to the internet, and then starts running ads.
