I'm starting to see a correlation between absolute crap-for-crap batter life and having the ambient light detector enabled. I'll do a test tomorrow, but I'm pretty sure if I just left my screen on full brightness all day, that I wouldn't get as bad of battery life as I do with the ambient light detector turned on.
Is there a problem with the fascinate's polling period? or possibly how much power is being sent TO the sensor? This might explain the problems on hacked roms where people are noticing a buzzing/hissing noise coming from the phone right around the area of the ambient light sensor when in the middle of a call (and the screen is on).
Has anybody seen where in the code the ambient light sensor is handled? (is it in the kernel, or somewhere in the drivers?).

Well, since nobody has moved this to the other forum yet and it's received a few views, Has anybody else noticed this before?
My personal experience had been full brightness ate battery fast and low brightness was a combination of hard to read and similar drain to auto. Then again my phone has never hissed at me except for godawful noises using skype wifi sometimes, and I have never messed with brightness under froyo.
My only observation with froyo roms is that "stock" eb01 was awful but superclean and AOSP were pretty good, particularly under EB+ kernels.
Also, I lose more battery than I would like to from signal loss overnight, but turning off 3G seems to help with that.

i noticed that the automatic brightness setting is absolutely terrible at choosing the correct brightness.
the froyo roms added the ability to hold down on the status bar and move left and right to adjust the brightness, so i just use this to adjust it on the fly when necessary.
this doesn't really answer your question, but i figured i'd add my 2 cents

The noise comes from having the key backlights on during a call.
If you are referring to the softkeys, there were some assumptions that this was the case, but I have tested this out and have heard the noise even when those lights were turned off.
Also, I ran my phone at about half brightness today all day. I've had it off the charger for 15 hours, made 3 hours worth of phone calls, and it's still at 41% battery life.
2 days ago when I just had my phone in the pocket, not doing anything and leaving the screen off (with auto brightness enabled) my battery was dropping significantly after only 6 hours and no phone calls or Internet usage.
What gives you better battery life - keeping it on Auto or setting it manually to a lower setting?
People say auto brightness affects battery life because it utilizes CPU power. I call shenanigans on that though because it will use very little CPU power... I vote AUTO.. cause if your out in the sun and your settings are set to low... You are just going to tweak them to accommodate your needs.

I have mine set on auto, but it doesnt dim or brighten up.
Bet it does! just when it needs to brighten and dim, you never notice. I thought the same thing until I played with it for a while thenI noticed it working.
auto eats more power, but it does what it needs to.

It uses more power to make the display brighter. Think of it like those 3-way light bulbs. The lowest setting is like 25 watts, the middle 50 watts and the brightest is 100 watts.
There is a widget that lets you change it manually between 33, 67, and 100% brightness with the touch of the button. I have that on my 2nd screen (along with WiFi, GPS, etc) and keep it at 33% most of the day every day.
I use auto due to ease and I easily get through the day without charging. I do use manual if I am in a dark room b/c auto just doesn't seem to dim the screen enough.
I like the 3 setting Brightness widget also. I like to set it where I prefer, didn't really care for auto. Don't know about battery savings with either one.
Is this a stock brightness widget or do I have to get it in the market?

24 hours later... 55% battery.
I use battery level its a small widget to change every 25% its great my battery is amazing Im at 58% after 12 hrs using 25% the brightness level and of course WiFi always on and turn in mobile network when I leave the house which saves me SO much battery

I always run mine at 100% brightness. I don't care about battery life. I prefer a bright screen.
Using a widget is probably no bad but I just auto , come on the phone was made with the sensor for it and it doesn't use much battery unless you have it a t 40% or lower all day long and struggle in the sun. I been using in auto since the iPhone I changed it for Android but i went back to auto cause it waste time just to change the setting everytime and annoying too
If you don't have an Evo3d well you don't have an Evo3d
Mine is manual and i see great results same with evo 4g.

It's a stock HTC Widget, but they also put powerpanel in there. I just think the HTC widgets look nicer.
I wished the auto brightness function had user-defined options. I agree with it being way too bright at night.
I have been using the 3 setting brightness widget/button. Usually always leave it on medium till I'm at home with the wall charger then I use max brightness.

The best widget I've tried is Brightness Level made by Curvefish. You get easy access to preset levels, a slider to adjust brightness to any level, and enable or disable auto brightness.

it would be nice to find a widget that sets a daytime and nighttime level. i use tasker but i think it's just too big of a program for just this one little thing.
I shut off my auto brightness off yesterday after a few hours to see if it made a difference and set my level to 40%. I don't know if it was a fluke or not but after 13 hours when I plugged my phone back in to go to bed, I was at 63%.
That is a huge difference from what I have been seeing. I am going to see how it turns out today with the same setting but I must say it is looking pretty good so far. After 2.5 hours with some texts, a little web surfing, some theme changes and emails and I am at 93%.
I will post back my results later tonight. I am also using power control plus which has a brighness widget that you can set to a percentage for each hit. So in case I need fill brighness, one click and I am there. Another click I am back to 40%.
So I just upgraded from the 360 original to the 360 2015. My old watch I had it set up were I touched the screen for it to come on. I've been trying the ambient mode on my new one and can comfortably make it through the day. My question is do you think this will cause any problems or issues with the watch? I'm just not sure how having the screen lit constantly will affect the life of the device.
I was curious if the ambient mode would eat up too much battery life... cuz its 1:00pm and i'm already down to 45% ... or maybe it could be something else draining it.. i'm hoping it will make it through a whole day with normal use.
Though I feel Brightness setting 1 (presumably the lowest brightness setting) is too bright, the Auto setting is a drasticly lower brightness level over all, washing out the sharpness and vibrancy of the display in both ambient on and ambient off modes. It seems a shame to have to settle for the flat tire watch face when the overall effect of the light sensor living in that area does not seem to provide a worthy purpose.

I just purchased this watch and was wondering that same thing. It's too early to come to a conclusion as I've literally only had it for a few hours. I'm going to try auto with "always on" and see how that does with battery, then maybe try number 1 on the same setting. Far as the flat tire that everyone is upset about, I can already say I would have rather had manual adjustment only with a full circular screen. Oh well I did all my homework between this watch and the Huawei. The one thing that gave this an edge was the 400 battery and the ability to switch bands at will. After a week or so I should have a good idea if this was a good purchase.
I got mine last week. For mr it was the 400 mAh battery and the watch face size. Anything under 46mm or a band less than 22mm would look silly on me.
On autp thr active screen is practically unreadable while the ambient screen OK.
Strange thing: my battery just went ftom 92% to practically 0 in what seemed to be less than 2 hours. And the screen was off the entire time.
Battery is great for me. Only lost 20% in 12 hours, about half that time I was using the "always on" screen mode or it would have been even less. I am not going to be a heavy user so that makes a difference, if you're someone who is using it all the time it's going to be a different story I'm sure.

Your graph say that your screen stay ON 62% of the time, so it drop the battery in 2H. Maybe something touch the screen and your watch stay ON ?
I sometimes notice while wearing short sleeves that the screen comes on and never goes off even though Always on is set to Off. I usually notice when the watch or watch face becomes warm. But generally battery life is fine, requiring a charge every other day.
Another reason I chose the Moto over the Huawei watch or any other is wireless charging. No more corroded pogo pins for me!
I am at 33% and still haven't charged since I got the watch on Thursday. I do turn it off at night like I do my phone, but nonetheless that is great far as I'm concerned.

Anyone else having problems with automatic brightness changes?
Every evening when it gets dark the brightness level goes to the lowest level, which is much to dark to read anything. Every evening I have to adjust the ''automatic'' level to halfway the level-slider, multiple times.
Do you have night mode enabled ?
I have this feature enabled from 9pm to 7am and indeed the auto brightness goes lower than normal value during this time slot .

No eye comfort modus
No Adaptive sleep modus
Only 'dark modus' enabled day and night
The same is happening to me. The brightness of the screen in darker lights is too low. Every time I move the slider to upper brightness but next time I open the screen is lower again.

I might state the obvious, but the sensor is a bit high up on the device and it might be covered by your phone case, u sure it's not just a goof with an off brand cover?
The sensor is not covered. I use an original OnePlus cover.
Strange thing ... Everybody or at least majority of Oneplus Nord 2 owners had complained about automatic brightness . It's true in my case as well but now problem is solved with a 3-d party apk . Velis Auto Brightness from G.Play . Calibrating autobrightness is very accurate but the app remain active in background all the time and I didn't know how this affect battery drain . I read all OnePlus latest phones have this annoying bug and it's pitty none of latest updates solved it , worst here on XDA or OnePlus forum no one offer any solutions to calibrate automatic brightness .
Some smart guys said there is not "automatic brightness" but "adaptive brightness" so we had to learn phone AI how to adjust brightness a few days and then restart the phone . This are childish thoughts of those which are nothing to do else .
So , what do you think about this ? There are solutions to calibrate or fix this issue ?
I noticed that when the phone is on below 15% or lower and the battery saver is on ( for me it's 10%) the phone brightness goes to automatic mode and it becomes even less bright. I think it has to be a certain feature which is connected to battery saving IMO.
I'm using Velis for 3 months as well. This solves the problem. But OnePlus definitely should solve this.
Even latest update v11.3 EU, doesn't solve it. I even did a factory reset. 3 hours work to reset everything back as is was, for nothing...

FYI: I did this a few minutes ago. I think that may be it. Before I did this, the screen brightness did not work at all. I could slide that slider up and down and nothing ever changed on screen brightness, auto or manual. Now it works! On auto and manual!
Hopefully this is the "fix"! But disabling a feature is NOT a fix, it's a workaround. Luckily I don't need that feature

So far the screen brightness has not faded into darkness. Phone is working fine now. This is a workaround that works.
Settings> Battery> Battery Optimization> Advanced Optimization (3 dots in upper right)> Sleep Standby Optimization: OFF

Since A.14 OTA , Adaptive Brightness is better but not entirely satisfying . It seems they solve bugs by little steps ... which is quite annoying !

Minimum level (especially in low light) is a little bit higher , sensitivity is more accurate and transition between levels is also a little bit faster . I'm pretty sure there are some improvements , that's a fact not a feeling .

Let's hope it improves a lot more. My previous devices, Moto g, Moto G5 plus, never had such problem, even on any custom ROM...
