I have a microUSB to microSD / SD card converter that I just purchased for like $10. I tested a 64GB microSD card in it and it work just fine as USB storage. Now I'm wondering if a 128GB SD card would work.
Has anybody tried a 128 SD card as a USB storage device in a SGS3? Is the phone recognizing this storage dependent upon the external SD card converter / reader or the phone itself? I'd try myseld but I don't want to spend $150 only to find out that it doesn't work.

I think it will work....You mean a normal 128gb right?...It should work..No one thought a 64gb microXC would work on GB phones.and it did.
I believe the Galaxy S3 meets the hardware requirements for SDXC cards, so I would think it would work, but no guarantees.
I am curious to know, as I have a 32GB card now, so 128GB in a year or so will likely be my upgrade choice, if it works.
Remember that I'm talking about a 128 GB SD (NOT microSD) card used through a micro-USB to SD converter plugged in through the bottom of the phone. I'm NOT talking about a 128GB microSD through the back card slot, which doesn't yet exist.
I'm just thhinking this might be dependant upon the converter's ability to read a 128GB sd card, not so much the phone's, but I'm not sure.

I guess no one has tried this yet, nor knows if reading a 128 GB SD card is dependant on the converter itself or the phone's USB mas storage recognition.
Guess it's gonna be a #$150 experiment then,

in theory it should work, right? cause people are reporting reading hard drives (500G or so) by usb OTG with no problem

I didn't even know you could do that! So I'm guessing you are plugging the card reader in to the bottom charging port and are then able to copy files to and from it? That's the idea right? I mean it would be kind of silly to walk around with a card reader dangling from the bottom of the phone

...which is WAY cool. Like I said, a 64GB microSD card works fine, both diretly in the microSD slot on the adapter or in an SD card adapter plugged into the SD card slot. I have not tried an SD card over 32GB in the SD slot directly, because I don't have one.
FYI... Sandisk is now selling an "Ultra" 64gb SDXC (micro SD) card that is rated Class 10 and is UHS 1. The "Ultra" tag refers to their class of cards that have 30MB/second read speed (unk. what the write speed is). Sandisk also has an "Extreme Pro" class of cards that have 95MB/second read speed, but the largest "Extreme Pro" in micro SDXC is currently 16gb. If you shop hard, you can find the 64gb "Ultra" SDXC card for less than $60 currently.
It's been previously reported that Razr supports SDXC cards, including 64gb (see this thread).
For anyone who might buy one, a word of caution. Put it in your Razr and format it there first before trying to use it on your PC. I'm not sure whether I received a defective card, or I somehow ruined my card by trying to format it to FAT32 on a Windows machine (using Paragon Partition Manager). I spent hours screwing with it before giving up and returning it to the seller.
I have the same 32gb version in my razr right now and it runs great. I assume the 64gb one wouldn't be any different.
Got mine for $23 on Amazon. Couldn't pass it up for that price.

It depends...
Is your USB adapter USB 2.0?
I typically use the SD Card slot with the adapter provided with the micro SD card.
USB for transfer unless you have a good adapter can be slower.
I use one 32gb class 10, works fine.

Have you tried a HD 1080p recording on your 32gb class 10 card ? , if yes - did you find any difference when you tried the same recording on a class 4 ( assuming 30 fps and standard cache)?
Got my one for a few weeks, phone has never been so slow.
Not faulty (tested the card multiple times) - anyone else having issues? I feel like I have a Galaxy S1. Just weird behaviour - Swype takes forever for k/b to appear, winamp takes forever for thumbnails for albums to appear - just apalling performance from my phone.

Try this... format the SD card from ur phone... increase the cache size of the card and give it a try..

Thanks dude - how does one increase the cache size though? Is this some kind of repartitioning or a bit easier?

I couldn't mount it or format it. My RAZR kept saying it was damaged. So, I formatted it in my PC first and all is well.
If you're under Windows XP, you'll need to have a program to do this. I used EaseUS Partition Master which you can get for free at http://download.cnet.com/EaseUS-Partition-Master-Home-Edition/3000-2248_4-10863346.html.
So far, the card works great and it's nice to have more room for DLC and songs.

I just orderd sandisk ultra 16gb and I will probably recieve it next week. I have atm 8gb class 4 card and I want to move all of my stuff from my 8gb card to my 16gb, what is the best way to do it?
Also do I need to do anything before I use it on my phone? Do I need to format it in my PC?

You can simply put it in the phone. No need to do anything beforehand. If it requires you to format, the phone will tell you to do so.
I've given up completely on trying to get this to work in my phone. The phone will recognize it as 64GB, but will freeze up on numerous occasions even if I'm not accessing it. Does no one else have the freezing issue? Running Flick 5.0 Tornado
So what's the concensus on this "extreme" cards' performance while in the phone? Are backups faster? Transferring files to/from a dekstop while connected via USB faster?
Does the YG-P70 (US version) have a micro SD card inside it? I was thinking maybe upgrade the internal SD card capacity if it isn't too difficult. That will leave the external slot open if we really need more. I ordered a Samsung 32 gig microSD class 10 and it is the fastest card I have ever had (not easily found in most stores where I live). I bought it from amazon. I would have gottetn one on ebay but there are a lot of fake memory cards on ebay. You take a chance buying them on ebay unless you know the seller. If I could make that my internal card that would be very nice.

Yes, in a way. It is (simply put) built into the processor, so it is not removable. Your 32 gig will have to go in the external slot. However, there is a patch to make it look like your internal storage to android (swap the two), which you might want to check out.

According to Sony spec. it supports up to 128 GB SDXC. Unfortunately I did not double check on my device.

Yes, i have 128gb class 10 and it works a charm.
I think your question is UHS1 OR 3 etc...
Mine is class 10 UHS1 and it is ok.
Any class 10 should be good enough, and if it has UHS rating, it is faster than those without UHS classification.
FYI, mine is Sandisk ultra.
Guys don't ever get sandisk ultra 64gb. I had 3 of their cards which was purchased at the same time and unfortunately it failed. The issue is rampant on their 64gb ultra (google Sandisk ultra cannot delete files). My micro sd suddenly became a read only device. Files are intact but i cant modify contents which means i cannot do format erase and anything. Practically it became a useless card. Already did windows low level format, tried to check drive permissions and it was not set in read only, no virus. The writting controller chip just broke down. for those who are planning to buy a card and have their cameras and their 4K vids automatically save in the sd card, then don't buy sandisk (at least The 64gb ultra). It seems their cards can't take much writing before it breaks

It's a shame you can't move any apps to the SD card, I have the LTE version and 16GB isn't enough space when you have a few games installed.

I have just install my new a1 sdcard in my tab s3, but as I can see I not still be able to install more apps than with my previous non a1 sdcard ! So all is the same but I suppose that the sd is just faster....
This is happening also in my s7 edge.
A1 sdcard was not suppose to let us install any app directly into the sd (not even just move some of them) ?
Is there anything I am missing? Any special format or whatever?

If you want to install apps on the SD Card (are you asking this question) then you may want to try the Storage Enabler patch. If this isn't what you're after then I do not know what you're saying (sorry).
I was tempted to reply but I was not sure about his query, if it is about moving apps to the Micro SD card, then this is easy: Settings>Apps, tap on any app, Storage>change, you can choose either External storage or Internal storage. Some apps will allow moving some won't.

The question is about the new A1 app performance sdcards... I thought with this kind of new cards I was going to be able to move any app to sd (now there are so many apps that cannot be moved to the sd) or even install the app directly to the SD card... But seems these new a1 cards are working just the same than normal sdcards...
So the question is... Is there anything I am not doing.... Or A1 cards works exactly the same but faster?

Okay, I see what you mean now. It's a new standard (read as "label" ) to throw on an SD card. It means nothing. At least personally I see at meaning nothing because every manufacturer these days tosses a confusing specification on a card that may or may not live up to it promise, so I'd seriously recommend checking out some SD card reviews and benchmarks instead of relying off a label (here's one site that reviews cards based on read/write and price/performance). Making this suggestion for you due to how some cards don't even live up to what they have printed on the card/packaging anyhow.
I don't even pay attention to SD card marketing anymore, it's ridiculous. Just find a card with tested high read and high write (because that's what your "a1" label really is).
I bought a Sandisk Extreme Pro 128GB UHS-1 U3 card a while ago for my Windows tablet but moved it into a Sony Xperia X Compact instead. I can use apps and take burst shots with the camera at the same time with it.
It's probably the best bang for your buck but there are slightly faster cards out there. I can't test it in the TabS3 because apps are installed on it, but on the Windows tablet I was getting near 60MB/s write and 260MB/s read (using a clean image on both devices where data was never written, to remove the possibility of re-enabling deleted data).
I'm getting a Samsung Evo + 256GB card (UHS-1 U3, mind they also released a UHS-1 U1 card so it's something to look for when shopping) for this tablet so what I'll do is test on the Windows tablet to see what this card is really capable of, then test the speed of the card using the TabS3.
I'd have used the Sandisk card but it's being used already. I wanted big and fast because I deal with music software and loading/reloading WAV files needs to be easy and not take all day :laugh:
TL;DR: Read up on benchmarks rather than relying off an SD card's specification label because very few SD cards ever live up to the spec they advertise.
To install apps directly to an sd-card, you need to enable Adoptable Storage via this patch

I don´t know If u had read about these cards before... I have SanDisk Extreme 128GB Class 10, U3, V30, A1, No matter how expensive is the card but if the card is not an A1 card the aleatory access is not good enough...
A1 means this cards are much much faster for aleatory access / read... and after some bench I have to say that difference is so big... So the card is working well and very fast both sequential and aleatory...
Anyway I thought This kind of cards could be considered by Android in a special way... and let us to install any app in it with no restrictions and without any patch or root mod... but as I can see.... no luck.... again after some installed apps.... memory problems are here again... no matter if you have 200 free GB in your SD.... so bad....
