I have made a build environment in VMWare. I have added all necessary programs to the Gnome menu. I spent a good 6 hours on making this and compressing this.
Before you use the VMWare image change RAM and CPU to your needings. I suggest at least 2GB RAM and 2 cores assigned for decent performance.
I have also enabled 3D acceleration for OpenGL developers or those who want to try making games.
Requirements
VMWare Player (FREE)
VMWare Workstation (optional, paid)
Features
- Everything is installed:
- Android SDK Tools
- Eclipse
- Android AOSP ready: tested with Jelly Bean
- CyanogenMod ready: tested with CyanogenMod 10 and later
- Developer links in Firefox to CyanogenMod and Android AOSP.

I would highly recommend each user and ESPECIALLY new users go through the process of setting up and configuring their own development environment. You will gain a lot of understanding on how Linux and thus Android operates by working with it yourself, and this really is important. This is great for a experienced dev who wants to have a backup of his own environment, but I think it's just adding one more crutch that the newbies really won't understand.
Password is 'root'
I thought this was a nice and obvious password to use. Sorry for letting you wait.

It's much more stable using VMWare. Many systems have trouble downloading the source code. Virtual Box gets the 'HTTPS ... not received' errors. Honestly I don't know how to say the error accurately because I simply skipped Virtual Box due to that issue

These issues are simple configuration mishaps and can be fixed easily. Nat tends to do this, I use a bridged nic. There are also a few kernel values you modify to fix any "download errors". I have never experienced any issues like you are suggesting using virtual box.

Kernel Source
Hi,
I'm new to android development.
I know that every ROM will have a Linux kernel, but where does this kernel come from?
I googled it, but I still can't figure it out.
I'll just take a wild guess.
Is it from
1. The source that you git from? (Ex: AOSP, CM10, AOKP)
2. The kernel of the Linux OS? (Ex: This VM's Linux kernel)
and by the way, am I able to change the kernel myself? (Ex: 2.6.35 to 3.0.8)
Thanks!

You get the kernel source from your device manufacturer.

Don't have a mirror, but why don't you just download a Linux ISO and set it up for yourself? Should be smaller downloads the whole way, everything will be up to date, and you'll get invaluable learning experience.:

K900 Device Tree project
hi folks, a couple of months ago i decided it was time to create a working device tree at least to build cwm, since lenovo is very bad at opensource with us, it is nearly impossible to build a working cyanogen. Fortunately cwm doesn't need too much to be build so i grabbed the motorola razr i device tree from @hazou and wrote a new device tree for us. But unfortunately we still need a developer firmware from lenovo to flash recovery.img's. However, cwm builds well and i want to share my work to any interested developer who are willing to help.

Its true, thanks for your effort QuBeX. I hope it works. I will follow.
Great job! I am also interested in hacking my K900 to enable kvm kernel module to run VMs on it.
The issue was always their stupid secure boot process which prevent use to put our kernel or even a kernel module into the system.
You refer to a developer firmware. Did you get chance to have access to one of those?
Does that turns off secure boot or you somhow got the signing key?
Please pm me if you know more details on that.
Thanks a lot.

Lenovo hasn't provided a dev firmware yet. And I don't think they will... Anyway we now have working recovery, and we are finding out how to bypass signature check, but it is really difficult.
Talking about the kernel, have you ever tried kexec? I don't know very much of it but you can find a lot of info and stuff in google
Thanks, man. That is a briliant idea!
I have built the kexec executible and have loaded my custom kernel into the memory.
Of course when it ran the new kernel, I got a black screen for now. But it's a good start. I'll debug it and keep you guys updated with the progress.

Just a quick update on progress.
Tried all kinds of tricks including modifying kernel code on the fly.
Still no luck on kexec yet.
But I found a loophole in the JB4.3 kernel which I used to have the kernel module signature check disabled.
Now I can load any kerenl module I built.
If anybody has interest on that tool, please PM me.

I am going to be working on a build of Lineage13 for our phone. Thanks to Corvus for the basic source.
Development source: https://github.com/JTS2111/device_le_le_zl1
To-Do (Will add to as I go):
-Get logs from CN users
-Patch kernel for safetynet
-Get a first stable build to give for testing
-Get logs from own phone (US)
-Finish To-Do
Long term To-Do:
-Stability and somewhat decent battery performance
-Completely CTS compatible (that'll be fun)
-Unified .zip for x727 and x720 (might borrow TS scripts)
-Security updates for at least a couple months.
As I get a stable build, I will post it here for testers. Right now, I'm setting up basic debugging for my phone to get the big crashes out of the way.
ETA: Hope to expect a experimental build by the end of the week.

Hi jts, I'm working on this fork too, just working on getting a fully automated vagrant setup. I'm working on a windows machine, and it's become painfully obvious windows 10 bash (a lovechild of ubuntu and windows 10) is garbage and doesn't work for literally anything you might need bash for. Setting up virtualbox is a pain in the ass. And at the end of the day, if you setup ubuntu, and need to change things for some other build, you might break your current build. I'll keep you posted.

Bash on Ubuntu on Windows is only good for basic operations. And I'm actually just starting another Ubuntu VM. No old builds broken. Though its good to have someone to exchange code with.
I already have ~95% working builds of 13 & 14. I have issues with some missing sensors in 13 and camera problems in 14.1.

Only for a summery.
We have to get the source code for camera and the other stuff is ready? Or not so difficult?
So definetly possible to geht a stable rom
And i saw that there are more people in this thread who are working in lineage OS. Do you work togetjer? I hope so Then its easier for you all :highfive:
And a little question for a dev noop If we have lineage 13, is it a long and complete new way to delvelope lineage 14.1 or is it similar and not tooo difficult?

Camera is fine on 13. Just some config stuff I'm fixing. I'm at the moment not working with anyone else, though it would be easier. In terms of 14.1, look at the omniROM 7.1. We would have the same issues with camera and sensors due to the lack of libs.
Also, as a status update, the ROM is very stable with CTS most likely to work with Magisk. Will post soon as I build it.

Proximity works for me, at least the sensor is detected and it changes using any app that tests the sensors (cpuz or aide).
About orientation, I didn't test it so I can't say anything.
If you updated sources from Lineage in the last days, bear in mind that the sources could be broken.
Update: Broken VM environment and source setup. Will try to set up a new Ubuntu ENV. and get a build up soon.

It's chako67's test build (https://forum.xda-developers.com/le-pro3/development/lineageos-13-t3548926)
First of all, yes, we can now run 64bits ROM on our phone.
But actually we have to run app_process (system server) as 32bits, mainly cause of sensors non working actually with a 64bits system server.
More to come next, vendor tree is still missing many 64bits blobs, and some of our proprietary services still run in 32bits mode too.

I purchased an A10e only to find the app I wanted to use the phone for is only compatible with 64bit android. As far as I can tell the phone has a 64 bit processor but 32 bit android. I am not really familiar with rooting and have recently "soft bricked" a phone that I was unable to figure out how to restore to normal.
Is there a simple guide to upgrading android on the phone?

I mean... it COULD be possible.... maybe (?)
After seeing Exynos 7870 get a 64bit vendor I'm thinking anything's possible
Try looking around the Exynos 7870 SoC to see if you can get some clues on how to get a 64bit vendor on this phone
XDA should be a good place to start

Ok lol
does anyone know how to modify the stock os file running 32 to 64 bit please help? because there is no android version that supports 64bit released by samsung, so it has to be customized, i just need how and where to customize the latest rom version. The help is to install android with 64bit support when there is no version released by the manufacturer which is a silly answer. I think 64bit support but running on 32bit makes the phone run faster and svae batery, and 64bit on that phone may slow down your phone and only using some 64bit apps can be smooth. As for 64bit applications that require powerful processing, even if you can install them, you will have problems with lag and overload
