I know it's not advertised but, would still be useful to use the USB-C to display on a TV. Sadly, the Find X does NOT appear to support HDMI through my wife's laptop USB-C/HDMI (Hootoo Shuttle) hub.
Anyone any other way to get this to talk to a TV with audio?

I'm pretty certain that this is not possible. The HDMI-out used in microUSB adapters requires hardware in the device. As far as I am aware, the Sony doesn't include this capability. The USb port would need to be wired to the display output which the Sony doesn't have. Sony doesn't include a hardware display output since Sony's plan for their mobile devices (the same thing that lead to quite a few of the Sony's unique features) includes more support for future technologies like DLNA.
Have you seen the vscreens app? Am pretty sure that if you had an android powered tv device (a google tv box perhaps), you might be able to see the tablet on the tv by pairing the 2 screens. Though I dont have a google box, so cant test this theory!
For replacement of the HDMI port I am waiting for a stick called "Xbounds".
Just use Google and you will find some very interesting videos. The developer dreamchip is on a fair end of April, maybe there he will offer some news
To have output video from the micro usb the port must be a MHL port, and the Tablet S port isn't. So I think it's impossible to have video out with this tablet.

I want to mirror my le max 2 screen to tv via hdmi. I tried using a USB-c to HDMI cable with built in charging but it did not work. USB-c connected to my phone , hdmi connected to TV and USB connected to normal charger. Now some questions as
Q1. Does le max 2 support MHL?
Q2. If i go for HDMi dongle will it work does it support miracast? What about chromecast will it work?

There is no MHL hardware on the phone and typically MHL support drivers aren't open source so they won't work with CM.
Miracast is supposed to be supported, I don't have a receiver so I can't tell.
Chromecast isn't exactly screen mirroring, but there is no reason why it shouldn't support the limited functionality it targets.
What might work (haven't tried it with this phone yet) is connecting a DisplayLink adapter via USB. You'd need to install and run their application on top and there is a good chance it won't support stuff like 3D games, because it basically needs to copy, encode, compress etc. frame buffer contents and ship them over the USB interface as data while they are being reconverted into video on the DL hardware.
I think it's a real shame straight-forward HDMI ports got dropped on phones years ago. I'm pretty sure it was because vendors wanted to sell distinct settop devices and Hollywood didn't want "phone" content on TV screens, not because users didn't want them.

Chromecast does support screen mirroring.
While looking to find a HDMI cable solution for my Moto Z, I came across a solution for the Galaxy S7.
- purchase this cable: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272686294141?clk_rvr_id=1297701036148&rmvSB=true
- enable USB debugging
- go to display in settings and set it to the highest resolution
- connect your phone to this cable using your original USB power cable
- Job done.... now you have a solution for connecting your Samsung Galaxy S7 to any TV via HDMI (works for the Moto Z as well using a usb C power cable)

Any displaylink hardware could send the image to the HDMI o VGA port. I have the Targus Multi Display Adapter and I'm able to connect my S7 to a VGA port or HDMI Port without any problem. You can connect a USB keyboard and mouse too! You only need to install the diplaylink app for android

MHL (the primary hdmi to usb micro protocol) does NOT work with S7 or S7 Edge as of at least Nougat. They lost MHL on the 7 line actually, S6 DID support it. Unless MHL support was added in Oreo, I am highly suspect of the claim that this cable "works". I have a rif6 cube projector and this is one of my few phones/tablets that I still can't use on the included MHL microusb-hdmi cable (which works with numerous other Android devices). DisplayLink may work but is an entirely different premise. DisplayLink uses proprietary protocol to send encoded video over usb or wifi. With the display link app installed, yes you may be able to wired/wirelessly output your display but this is similar to screen casting and encodes the video, not a raw hdmi out video cable. DisplayLink also assumes you actually have a DisplayLink capable display or device to cast to (which I sure don't haha)

USB device handles graphics control..
App acts as linux/android driver so no need for MHL anything....android is an OS...

I thought displayLINK was way to wirless mirror my screen. That's not what I'm looking for. I can already do that with Chromecast, ClickShare, etc. I want to have a cabled connection to have in places where I don't have an internet connection at all. This is for business presentations, so I'm not concerned about lag for gaming, nor am I concerned with perfect resolution or even audio. I just want to display screen of my Samsung S7 on a larger display with a cabled connection that doesn't require internet.

Anyone who knows the capabilities of the USB-C port?? Is it possible to use USBpens, external harddrives, card-reader etc? And how about USB-C to HDMI, a seller in a store told me he did it with his m5... But I have my doubts to whether that was "salesmens talk"...
Don't have an M5 yet (tomorrow), but the Mate SE (micro usb) port can be used for many things people are not aware of. For many things all you need is an OTG cable (usb-c or micro to usb). I've plugged in usb thumb drives and even a wireless keyboard and mouse using a logitech unifying receiver (first set usb connection to midi).
A quick search turned this usb-c to hdmi adapter on amazon, looks like there are many different ones available. Have never tried this with any of my android devices, but if they make these adapters, well it certainly gives one hope that it *might* work, it certainly must in some circumstances.

I have a HDMI adapter I use for the Nintendo Switch (which also should work with Samsung devices) and that one doesn't work with my M5 8.4.
I also have a USB-C OTG adapter and a USB memory stick works, but I haven't yried anything else.
It doesn't appear that the M5 is capable of hdmi output. Mhl and slimport seem to be absent.
I used a USB c combo dongle , it had USB A female and sd card slot.
On holiday I used it to copy my gopro videos to ssd. It wasn't pushing usb 3 speeds and the system acts a little weird when it is plugged in - movies that are downloading on amazon or Google play would go to the ssd or sdcard plugged in from otg, even though I have an sdcard in the external asd slot

Weird, I've tried it with Hugo 2 / UAPP playing hi-res flac and it seems to work fine. I set it in bit perfect mode and the bit rate indicator LED showed the correct bitrate. I did have to try a couple of unplug/replug to get the tablet to do some permission requests. It also worked with Youtube and the default Android audio system - though I did have to stop UAPP kicking in.
USB C can power external hard drive, and ive got one of those USB to 2.5in adapters that powers a 1tb toshiba laptop drive and that's ok too, the tablet also give me the option to reverse charge, so i presume it is capable of high amp output on the port, maybe up to 1A or more

Yeah the USB port isn't working correctly. It's supposed to be USB 3.0, but i am copying at 18MB/s (onto an SD card capable of 100MB/s)

Seriously dissapointed, and I know it sounds silly but this device isn't useful without USB 3.0, I have an action camera and hence I copy video to internal SD card. What use is a device if you can't input/output to it fast enough.

Have same experience. Really regret buying high end Huawei M5 and then realised I could not use it with HDMI cable. Wireless projection is really lag!
For folks with slow USB data issues, it mat be that you need a powered hub for it to work optimally. I've had this issue with a few Android devices over the years.
There is no where stating the Type-C port is USB2.0 or 3.0/3.1
My enquiry in Taobao, said it is 3.0.
So wondering if it is real 3.0 and do support HDMI out via those adapter.
I've tried few different cables (not made by Xiaomi) but it didn't work. If you really need the ability to cast screen to an external display I can recommend displaylink device. I use the model from 2013 and it works well (cost me about $40), although I prefer to combine Mipad with an HD projector. Noticed a slight stuttering when connecting to FHD TV - you'll probably need a newer model.
