Problem with Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone
I have a few questions
I've been using a Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 for 2 years and it worked perfectly well.
But lately the battery drains extremely fast,I put in the new one and it still drains very very fast.
The second problem is the google play and google play services
It doesn't open, the screen stays white.
I tried eveyrthing, older versions of google play work but other apps require the new version or the latest update, and when i update it the problem's back
Please help,I'm completely new to this so please be patient and explain if you can
Thank you very much!

I don't have this device but, your best bet should be to take a look at the following area of the forum that's specific to your device and see if there's either an answer to this question (more than likely your question may be found individually) or a location to post your question.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-2
This device isn't extremely active but, I don't believe that it's inactive either.
Good Luck!

Use Google translate. You have to join the site. You have to wait 24 hours. Then you have to click on the link in the first post, it will send you to an empty post for you to make, you make that post (anything you put there is fine), and then you can go back to the first post and download the updated rom. There are two versions of the rom, one for flashing from the card and one for flashing with the cable.
Sorry, I have nowhere to upload it for you, so I can't send you my copies.
I am waiting for my phone to arrive. I got the Etotalk rom, so my hope is that they are using the updated rom version and it will already be fixed.

Are you talking about the G2 or G2S?
Please keep us informed about any improvements with your display problems after updating the rom.

My guess is that he really is talking about the G2S. This is a known problem, and Jiayu immediately issued the updated rom to correct this problem. In addition, the web page says that after installation of the new rom, the user must not touch the screen during the first boot before the unlock slider appears. Here are their words, as translated by Google:
Note: After the upgrade is complete, the first boot, the phone screen did not appear before sliding unlock switch, the phone can not power off (do not pull the battery), the hands can not touch the screen, otherwise it will affect the touch screen problem correction! ! !

BTW, where is the place here in XDA developers that we are supposed to be talking about the Jiayu G2S? I would prefer to move this conversation over there, but I can't find an "official" forum.

Someone started a new thread regarding the screen issues here. You are right we should have a G2S thread to collect all the information in one place together. At the moment everything regarding the GS2 is distributed over the forum.

Yeah, I don't like having to look all over the place. I was posting at least some in the Jiayu G2 thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1736279
Maybe that is the best place to take our conversations? The G2S is very different from the G2, so I don't know if that is right either.
I'm very interested in getting a ClockworkMod Recovery image for this phone. But I don't have the phone yet, so there is little I can do yet.

Yes, I posted in the same thread as well. I feel a little bit lost between the g2 and the g3 related stuff.
Have you ordered a G2S already?
I'am very close to it. The only thing I'am still missing is a decent review of the first batch devices which are sold at the moment and reliable information about the fixing of the jump screen problem. I'am not very keen on getting a G2S and have to realize that the jump screen is based on a hardware problem. I could not read anywhere that the jump screen problem is really sorted out with the last software update. It is only mentioned that it has been improved as far as I understood the posts in the chinese forums.
To build a cwm recovery for the G2S should not be a problem, I reckon.

John

No, I don't think I have any more information than you. I have been looking at the Jiayu forums for information as well. It seems that the "official" Jiayu statement is that the jump screen problem is fixed by the software update: http://bbs.ejiayu.com/thread-395114-1-1.html
It's a bit more comforting to hear that they acknowledge the problem and have (are?) working on it. All of the other problems mentioned in that post are not causing me to worry.
Unfortunately my previous phone broke, so I am forced to wait no longer. So I ordered the phone already. Although it is DHL shipping, I think it might take some time to arrive. I ordered it from Etotalk and had them install their mod rom. I had already asked if it was based on the newest rom and they replied that it was. But I would suggest waiting for a while if you possibly can. There is always some risk when you buy a phone from a lower tier manufacturer and they are using really new technology.
While I wait for my phone, I need to learn how to use the tools for creating a CWM Recovery. I have already created a modified rom from the official download, but I have no phone to install it on. Unfortunately, I don't find a recovery.img file in the rom I downloaded. I am assuming I will need to pull it from the rom on the phone when I get it, but maybe I just don't know where to look for it. Any help anyone has would be appreciated.

There is a great tutorial how to create a recovery mod for the G2S here. As soon as I get a G2S I will build a recovery following that tutorial.
Like you I have read through all the well known forums and not that well known forums to gather all information I could get regarding the mediatek chipset 6577 phones. Now the time has come to make use of it. Difficult to wait any longer.
Btw, I read that DHL express delivers bloody fast, only 4 days for shipping from China to Germany was the best. I hold thumbs that you'll get it as fast as that lucky guy.
Could you please backup the Etotalk rom before you customize it? Most likely I'am going to order mine at mixe and I would like to test the Etotalk rom.

John

I will definitely backup the Etotalk rom before going any further. But I suspect it is going to have very little changed from the stock rom because I only need English and Traditional Chinese. So it might not be localized in a way that can work well for you (depending on what you need).
I also suspect that it is very easy for them to modify the rom. Already they have Jiayu's official update that is pre-rooted or at least has Superuser in the rom (so rooting will be easy). Then they just delete a few useless apps and the rom is done, as long as it is just in English and Chinese. But any user can delete those apps immediately after rooting, so that is not significant either.
Thanks for the link. I will definitely look at that when I have some time later today or tomorrow.
I will also need to work on installing the tools for backing up and flashing roms. On my Huawei U8220, I made many rom mods and distributed them over at MoDaCo. But I think there will at least be some new things to learn when working with this MediaTek phone.
Maybe it will be time to start an "unofficial" Jiayu G2S thread some time soon. I'd prefer having a good title for the thread (like the G2 thread), and someone who will update the first post when important new information (or roms, etc.) happens. This thread is to specific in the title.
I will also have the Jiayu G2S, it is a very nice phone

Wow, that was a thorough review! Thanks for the link.
Nice to hear that there was no problem with the jump screen. Still, I will be careful to do two things on the initial boot:
1. Not install the SD card.
2. Not touch the screen until it is done booting.
I had to laugh though: the "Antutu" testing software got translated to "An Bunny". And I know enough Chinese to know why.
My phone will probably ship today. I don't understand why they were having trouble with my address in Chinese characters. :silly:

Regarding the jump screen issue there are two (new) threads in that forum.
As far as I understand it is said that the problem still exists and it (likely) could be a hardware problem.
Hope that is not the case.

John
PS: Regarding the Chinese-English translation: What is meant by "brush"? Is it "update"?
PPS: Bunny is indeed funny.

I believe "brush" = "flash". I should look at the Chinese character to make sure.

Advice needed

Hi Guys,
Im in the UK. Id like to buy the redmi 2 note from ali express. Its around £104 with DHL 6-7 day delivery. Is there any advice or anything I need to be careful of ? I have the following concerns,
will 4g on the 3 network work, i think so but am just confirming
Ali express says google play and apps will be installed ?
Any import duty i need to be careful of ?
Any other sites that may offer this based on personal experience ?
Many thanks for the info.
Not sure about 3 UK but in Poland LTE works fine so I guess you should be good to go with data connectivity and yes, I got the phone with google services already installed but flashed Polish MIUI ROM anyway (just to make sure I have the latest one).

I'm from Austria but also ordered my phone from aliexpress and it was first shipped from china to the UK and after that to Austria.
I've ordererd it from the seller: Shenzhen Top-One Trading Co., Ltd. (sorry, I'm not allowed to post links)
and picked DHL delivery, as said in the description to avoid any taxes. Totally cost me 155€.
And that was true. It arrived 8 days after order and no additional taxes to pay.
Also I read in a german forum that many others recommend the seller.
After recieving you should install the xioami.eu ROM (could be found in the forum and is easy to flash) because there are some chinese adds in the software variant.
If 4g will work for you, you have to check on your own. In Austria it works. The redmi, also in this version supports:
4G FDD-LTE: 1800/2100/2600MHz (Bands:B3,B1,B7)
3G WCDMA: 850/900/1900/2100MHz
Hope I could help you.
4g is working in UK no problems. I am on 3 and have a nice strong signal. Will recommend to install the newest rom. I didn't pay import taxes but better check with seller before ordering. Great powerful phone. I am happy
Many thanks for the info guys, very useful. How easy is it to flash the rom, is root required. I use to do this back in the day but havent done it for a few years now.

No is is pretty simple:
- download the rom (could be found in the Redi Note 2 General Forum)
- rename it to update.zip
- copy it to the Redmi Note 2
- flash it via the Updater app
- Done.
I chose DHL and received my phone after 3 business days, but I had to pay customs duty 35€.
You guys tipped me over the edge which means I have ordered one , basic in Panda, im assuming thats the one with the white back.
Thanks for all your help. Cost was £114 with DHL and they 'promise' no customs within the EU. Will keep u posted
Great, good luck

Need some advice on a replacement phone

Ok guys been a while since I've been on here, so I'm sure this is answered elsewhere but need some good advice.
I have an S5 on Verizon my wife and I have been using as our primary source of internet using tethering for the past several years. Obviously the phone is rooted and still running KitKat 4.4.4 on the NI2 kernel. When phone updates and loses root I just roll it back.
So long story short and to the point, we are needing a new phone. This one's performance is degrading and a new battery is still not holding a complete charge for very long.
Looking at the newer Galaxies but needing to continue to be able to root and use the hotspot feature as we use nearly 100GB per month in data. Any suggestions on hardware, etc. is appreciated.
My go-to sources are:
www.kimovil.com / www.devicespecifications.com / china-prices.com (They got Band support in the US covered as well, but ALWAYS check by yourself too) -> https://willmyphonework.net/
I can easily list a bunch of devices, but it'll be your task to figure out if they are supported band wise in the US. Battery/price/quality-ratio-wise:
Le Pro 3 Elite
Coolpad Cool1 Dual
Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X

I believe that you are new here and don't know that the huawei phones would not enable us to install stock roms and we are not able now to unlock the bootloader anymore for free lol.
So there is no custom roms dear
Wtf how am I supposed to unlock the bootloader then I need more information quickly so I can cancel my purchase. Is it impossible to unlock bootloader now

Depends on your firmware. If Security Patch is June or later you won't be able to, at least not if you're on C432.
If you are on security patch may or earlier you will be able to use HCU client to get unlock code, but it's paid.
I can only confirm that it's not possible to get unlock code on C432B145+, I can't confirm for other cust but it will most likely be the same.
Edit: if it's a brand new phone it will likely come with factory firmware, unless the shop you bought it from updated it.
Even if I was able to unlock think it's likely that development will be very limited would I be right in thinking this.

I wouldn't say "limited" it depends what your looking for, obviously the best device development is for OnePlus and Pixels imo, but we still have RessurectionRemix, LineageOS, CarbonROM & OmniROM, that's 4 pretty recognisable ROM's :good:
Link to ROM's : https://openkirin.net/download/
To be honest, I had my first Mate 10 Pro rooted, and apart from an Ad blocker and YouTube Vanced there wasn't much I felt any need to install. Now Vanced can be installed without root, and Ad Blocker can run on various browsers, I don't see much point.
The Mate 10 Pro is a brilliant phone, I'm seriously considering selling my S9+ and going back to the 10 Pro - the battery life was far better, and I think the camera was better. I also hate the bent sides on the screen on the Samsung. Only thing I might missis Samsung Pay, but I'll just go back to contactless card.
Thanks to you guys and some further reasearch i was able to reach out to the person on ebay i had bought the phone from and cancel the purchase after explaining the situation with bootloader. I am still reeling from Huwaweis decision to stop bootloader unlocking and hope they one day reverse this decision. I really had my heart set on the mate 10 for obvious reasons but possible lack of bootloader unlock is just a no no for me on my current phone a xiaomi mi6 i regularly change roms and kernels sometimes twice a week so i certainly could not live with being stuck on Mui with no possibility of modifications xposed etc. And i did not want to take the risk of buying to only find out that the bootloder had been patched or something and id be stuck.
So now i have turned my attention to either the oneplus 5 or perhaps galaxy s8plus. Again thanks for your help guys.

Separate Forums for curtana and joyeuse. Poll open until 01 september. Please vote.

On previous post I made poll with wrong answers sorry for that. So here we go again this time correctly.
So far Redmi Note 9 Pro forum is becoming one big mess and now with new sections it is even worse . My idea is to create separate forums for curtana and joyeuse. And when you use search and you type device name: Redmi Note 9 Pro there should be two devices visible:
Redmi note 9 Pro (curtana)
Redmi note 9 Pro (joyeuse)
At the moment only 10% of people reading this are voting. So please if you read this please vote. I will write to moderator and show Him this thread. I think the more votes we will have the bigger chances are that moderator will create separate forums. Otherwise He can say there is no point to create another forum for only small percent of users.
Is is so difficult to reply? Yes or No. And from other side you expect, to have nice forum with a lot of custom ROM's, that some one will sacrifice hunderds of hours to create ROM? And you can't reply with 2 or 3 letters? If moderator will agree then great if not, then at least we try.
So I want to ask you all curtana and joyeuse users to make some kinda voting and answer question:
Do you want moderator to create separate forum for curtana and joyeuse?
YES
NO
Thank you all.
Personally I'm fine with it being mixed, as long as new posts contain the devices codename.
But having said that, lots of custom ROM rookies are bricking their devices by flashing incorrect ROMs. Forum admins really should put something in place, (disparate sub-forums is just one possibility), to protect rookies from themselves.
Yes, it's incredibly messy as is.
Yep definitely needs to be separated because the phones names are already confusing enough (yes I understand the code names) it's like the arguments of old, Samsung Galaxy (insert number here) snapdragon vs exy; they got separate forums so these should too since it's possible to cause a hard bricks (we don't have Odin or 9008 mode to reflash a stock rom (not without an authorized mi account anyways)
For those indifferent to the problem, think of this as preventing spam related issues in the future saying: pLeAs HaLp I BRiCkEd ma pHoNe
Yes Please,
For Avoiding confusion.
Thanks

Right, like for eg. Havoc.
And now with new Sections names it is more confusing for eg. Section:
REDMI NOTE 9S / NOTE 9 PRO (INDIAN MODEL) ROMS, KERNELS, RECOVERIES, & OTHER DEVELOPMENT
and inside this section joyeuse and curtana
Maybe not a complete forum, but at least separate subforums for recoveries and roms.
Unless someone finds a way of making roms reliably universal mixups are gonna keep happening.

Exactly next example is old Honor 4X also two versions one with snapdragon other kirin. One name but two diferent phones.
Manufacturers make it confusing especially Xiaomi, but here we XDA community can and should make it clear and obvious. And as you said this will protect users from bricking their devices, and keep forum cleaner from questions like: is this rom for Global or Indian?

As I said, after voting I will contact moderators and they will decide what to do, I think one way or another something has to be done. This is quite new forum imagine it in a year and later

I agree.
And it could get even more confusing once we start seeing unified builds that target more than one device.
YESSSS
They are two different devices.
I don't understand why we are even having to do this.

Maybe if we do and enough people will vote then who knows maybe XDA maintainers will create two forums.
But so far community do not look interested. more then 500 people read this and only 24 votes this is sad.
They all want free custom rom but are too lazy to give vote.

I just hope that JOYEUSE will be UNIVERSAL and we won't have to distinguish between global, india, eu, russia, china and others... One for all or none for nobody.

Hello
Personally, the stock rom is more than enough for me, do not generalize!

So what are you doing on XDA? Here are not stock roms. Every rom even with slight change is not stock.
Did you unlocked bootloader?
Or just debloated by adb?
Or anything else?
Where from is your knowledge how to do it? XDA?
If you are here then it is clear that you want something more then stock, but if not, then you are lost and you should rather use official manufacturers forums. There are a lot more informations about stock rom, than here.
Do not answer, keep it to your self.
By saying: They all want free custom rom but are too lazy to give vote.
I meant that XDA is about community and community works only when members are involved and want not just take but also give.
Have nice day.
