I recently got the Mi Box (MDZ-16-AB) to replace my Charter Spectrum DVR because I have IPTV service now.. The slingbox I have that reencodes to a lower bit rate (I receive via mobile hotspot in taxi cab with slingplayer on amazon fire stick) isn't able to control the box fully. The custom remote bin file is very limited on control options (power, menu and directional/enter buttons work) but the back button that is greyed out is a button that gets used way too often...
I have a VPN to my house on my mobile internet, but yet the limited 'android tv remote' app won't realize I'm on a VPN and insists on me using wifi for it to access.. Is there a third party app for android TV that will let me input the IP or IP/Port info in to control it?
I have a 13TB NAS at home as well with pretty much the entire DVD and music collection backed up to it, with kodi installed and running on a second input on my slingbox, for which I can control over the VPN perfectly fine using yatze.. So I know controlling it should be possible.
If I can't control via this method then the only other option is doing fireTV and controlling via the fire app on my phone (as I can sign in and control any fire device on the account) regardless of being on wifi or VPN.
Vysor, paid version.

I've seen some apps and hardware out there, but I was wondering if any users here have user or are currently using their streak in a home automation/home theater setup....
would love to hear about someones setup or to get some advice on how to do it.
Thanks
I have Insteon lighting all through my home that is controlled from a PC running HCA Home Automation software. My home theater is ran from a Lenovo touch netbook/tablet for media remote control, that also connects to the Insteon PC to control the lighting. The HCA software has Android software that is in Marketplace that I have loaded on my Streak, which can also control the lights, but it isn't my primary method of control.
HCA http://www.hcatech.com/ is pretty cool because once you buy the base package, you can run it as a server on a main machine, then reinstall it on as many other machines as you want in client mode, plus it supports touch screens if you want to use those in your home. I run it in client touch screen mode in my HT, and you can do that on your iPhone or Windows Mobile phones also, at no extra charge. The software is easy to modify to do custom programming. If I didn't have the 10" tablet, the Streak could take the place of it. But since it is larger, I'd rather use the tablet in my theater.
I went through many other packages before I settled on this one. I have 30 light modules in my home, and I can control any or all of them from my streak either over WiFi inside my house, or over the Internet when I'm away from the house. It also monitors my security cameras and DVR remotely.
Is there any app that allows me to control my pc via my Nook? I would like to be able to contol the media on my computer as a sit back and relax
My favorite app for remote desktop is Logmein its $14.99 on the app market. And works great on the Nook

There are many such apps on the Market. Have you tried Gmote?
My favorite remote app is Unified Remote, which has remotes for almost every purpose. It even saved my life when I had to give a presentation for an exam with 3 fellow students.
Nobody brought a presenter, so I quickly installed the desktop client and passed my phone to whomever was speaking next.
For a full-featured remote desktop, I settled for Android VNC Viewer. No need to pay money for Logmein.
PROTIP: Have a look at this thread I made a while ago: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1115986
Using these steps, you can launch your remote app (and any other app) right from the lockscreen. Saves me loads of time whenever I just want to adjust the volume or stuff like that.
I love Unified Remote as a plain remote.
VNC is also great for free but Logmein just rocks for me with multiple networks and stuff like that as a remote desktop app.

It may be a tad overkill for your purposes, but my favorite remote desktop app is Team Viewer.
Simple to setup, simple to use, and it's free.
For your purposes, I've heard a lot of good things about gmote, but I wasn't able to get it to work.
I use androidVNC with TightVNC server on my desktop. To lazy to get up and move the mouse for Netflix
+1 for Unified Remote
Excellent tool with lot of remotes for different situations.
This is the one I use: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.xtralogic.android.rdpclient&feature=search_result
There's also Tesla, if you use *nix on your PC.
Use teamviewer, it's free and best software I used for both Laptop & NC.
But you cannot use your PC to remote your NC via teamviewer

What settings do you use to control netflix? I was trying to do this, but the slow framerate kills any attempt to control my desktop, that and the netflix buttons don't render, so I have to guess where I'm clicking.
Other than that I'd +1 to androidVNC, suits most of my needs fine. I'll have to check out unified remote though, looks good.

Androidvnc is set up as 64 colors (1bpp) with Force full-screen bitmap on Auto, with Zoomable Scaling.
Everything renders fine for me, including the buttons. Colors are a little off, but that doesn't matter when I am only using it as a remote. On desktop side I did nothing in TightVNC except make sure that it turns off my wallpaper, just in case.
i was using pocketcloud (rdp) but hitting the menu button doesn't work anymore: No menu, no virtual mouse
I use and enjoy Splashtop Remote.
(Tried to add a URL to the market, but weren't allowed to do so. Search for Splashtop Remote HD in Android Market, that should do the trick.)
Not entirely sure what you want to control - but look into DLNA apps. You can play your media (pictures, video, audio) and control any other DLNA app/renderer (blu-ray, etc).
"Play this video on my TV" or "go to laptop, stream this music to my Nook Color". It's pretty handy stuff.
Hey guys i was wondering what is the best app out there that will allow me to stream my movies and tv shows from my nas to my tab while im away from home. I know how to do port forwarding just cant find a app that will stream the media
Plex works really well! It converts on the fly if you have a PC next to your nas. Quality on your LAN is great! Quality on the WAN is so so but it works!
Thanks for the reply i have plex installed but it doesnt work outside of my home network on my tab. It works fine on my phone but not on my tab ( my tab is tethered to my phone to access the internet when im not home)
TVersity allows you to stream outside of your network. Quality is much better than on Orb or some of the others.
what app do you use for tversity i checked the market and nothing came up

I don't use an app. usually. I do it straight from the browser. You can enter an http address and pull up files or a flash file.
Alternatives are Vplayer, the Toshiba Media Player app available on XDA (works the best actually) and um..... one other one I forget. You just install TVersity on your PC and let it scan wherever your media is installed. Whether it be on your puter or an external.
I use J.River Media Center, the app is called "Gizmo" (just search in the market).
I'm able to control all my music in different rooms, workplace etc over the pad. Or stream it to the pad itself.

I use Plex over 3G on my Wi-Fi Tab tethered to my phone. I'm tethering via Wi-Fi, not USB. I have to store the remote IP address for the server Plex is running on in order for the app on the Tab to find it.
yeah i have my remote ip address saved and im teathered via wireless as well and i dont get a connection. My phone has the same remote ip address as well and it connects just fine. Ive also tried connecting to my vpn teathered and that doesnt work either, but my phone can connect without any problems
I have a QNAP 212 NAS and Galaxy Tab 10.1. Tried Tversity/uPnP and the rest but all I got was jerky playback over wifi.
Solution was long winded but now I can stream anything stutter free
1. Map NAS drives to PC (Windows 7 cannot index NAS so use this workaround)
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...to-index/d6a6cb41-1d66-476c-ab1e-70329dd55cc5
2. Install Qloud
3. Stream at 2048mbps
4. Funmouth
thanks for the reply works like a charm
no worries
Hi all,
I have a tablet (HTC Flyer, not rooted) that I'm using as a remote control for my TV, Reciever and HTPC.
I am using LauncherPro and have a homescreen with just 4 shortcuts/widgets made with Desktop Visualizer.
I have shortcuts for: Media Center Control app, XBMC remote app, VSX remote app for my Pioneer reciever, and Unified Remote for basic mouse and keyboard control.
Overall I am very happy with this solution, but as my HTPC setup requires both Windows Media Center and XBMC, and I have dedicated apps for both, I am forced to manually swich between these programs. This can be done with hotkeys or scripts from within WMC and XBMC, but I would love to make my tablet send these hotkey commands when pressing the appropiate shortcut on my homescreen.
Example:
I am watching TV in WMC and want to watch a movie in XBMC. To do this I have to exit WMC and open XBMC, and the other way around when I want to go back to WMC again. This swich between programs I would like the tablet to handle by sending a hotkey command to the HTPC when pressing the shortcut. But I can't figure out how to do it....
Is this possible?
Thank You

Is there anyone that can write an app that removes HDMI checks for Android streaming apps that don't work on eg. Android tv boxes that has an HDMI Out connection?
Eg. You decompile an app and then nthe app can search the files in the decompiled app folder for HDMI intents and help you to remove them.
Or the app could run on Android and allow you to disable certain intents for selected apps like android.intent.action.HDMI_PLUGGED or HDMI_AUDIO_PLUG
like Autostart Manager in ROM Toolbox Lite app(that don't work correctly).
On KitKat there was an app called HDMI Virtual Switch that could hide the state of an HDMI connection.
http://freaktab.com/filedata/fetch?id=545672
But on Lollipop firmware that file's value gets changed back to a 1 immediately after you save it again.
echo "0">/sys/devices/virtual/display/HDMI/state
As soon as I do this it changes, but when I open the file, it jumps back to a value of '1' and is then disabled again.
The app will need to change this file and keep it like that without Android system changing it back to '1' automatically.
Or is there another solution to solve this problem?
The app can perhaps also try to remove
Proxy and VPN checks &
ADB Checks

for HDMI checks?
I'd also like an app like this. I have fire TV and trying to run Brighthouse TV app through it won't run because of being hooked to television through HDMI. I have a brighthouse subscription just trying to get away from paying $30 a month for their boxes, remotes etc
Anyone that has any tips on disabling HDMI checks? I'm sure there are lots of talented people here and there are lots of apps with HDMI checks that just won't work on Android TV Boxes.
The DirecTV app is a good example
Use SoundAbout app from playstore u can choose default route sound from speaker, hdmi, Bluetooth etc..etc.. like control panel on windows
