Amazfit Stratos : GPS distance error (300-400 m per 5 km) - Amazfit

Hi all,
I am using Stratos for 2 months and very satisfied with its function, everything is fine.
Until last month (July18), I noticed that the distance is abnormal. I ran in the park which I know the distance, it is about 5 km per round but at that time, the GPS reached 5 km before I finished a round, estimately 300-400 metres per 5 kms error, that is too much !!!
I have done factory reset and try runnning again, unfortunately an error still occured.
Please kindly give me some advices, thank you in advance !
Kim

Had the same problems with my stratos and the firmware. Also the altitude measurement is not working properly. I switched to stratosfied 2.0.27. for me this was and is the only firmware with accepable tracking results.

If you read out the gpx file, and check the track on google maps, can you see the error on the map itself? Like the marking is not on the road, corners are cut or anything like that?
As it is with gps it works best in an open field. When running in a park below many trees or in between tall houses there might be some inaccurate readings....
Statos had the most accurate GPS of all smartwatches i have had so far. Only had inaccurate readings once when I was in a forest but they were still good enough for getting the idea of distance and soeed...

It happened the same to me. After last released the mileage on running started to be wrong.
When running I change the sport to trail and find it that the mileage is correct.

I have been having so many issues with different versions of stratosfied and even the latest official firmware's, but I agree that stratosfied 2.0.27 seems to have fixed them. Its a pity some of the translations are not fixed but it is still worth it. Thanks for sharing this.

I have the same issue. Sometimes the error is visible only on google maps. the problems is, that either at the beginning or and of the track the gps jumps a some 100 metres away and immediately back...

For me there have been several versions working since 2.0.27 (not all; can write them later when at home). Currently I'm on 2.0.37 and I'm quite happy with it. At this version the altitude is fine and also the heart rate seems to be pretty good. Sync with app is a bit slow but I don't care much about that. Never switched back to official.

CardioTrainer - GPS distance tracking, different results between 3D & 4G

I've used CardioTrainer several times per week over the last year on an EVO4G. The EVO3D is giving me different distance results than what I was seeing on the 4G for the same routes.
For instance a 2.7 mile route on EVO4G shows as 3.9 miles on EVO3D.
Bug reported here:
https://code.google.com/p/worksmart/issues/detail?id=964
Anyone else getting weird GPS results..? Can you recommend another distance tracking app that is accurate on the 3D?
If you drive the same route with your car, you'll find both are off some.

I have the same problem as well. Wife and I took both our phones on a walk last time. She had Runkeeper on her phone running and I had CardioTrainer on mine. Runkeeper seemed much more accurate. It said we went 6 miles in less than an hour...walking!
do you both have EVO3D? I'm curious if Runkeeper is working correctly on the 3D and this bug is strictly limited to Cardiotrainer.
anybody affected please star and leave a note in the bugtracker so we can get this more attention.

I've used several
I've used several on a Hero and found Runkeeper was the most accurate. I bought a 3vo and Runkeeper is way off showing 5.7 miles for a 3.1 mile route. So now trying endomondo which showed 3.48 m for the same route. Only used endomondo once so who knows.
My Hero was never exact but usually showed 3.2/3.3 on Runkeeper for our 3.1 route which I set up with my car and a Garmin GPS to validate distance.
I was hoping the 3vo would have better GPS radio/antenna or what ever and would be exact but so far very disappointed.
Will be trying Cardio Trainer which I like but was not good on my Hero.
If y'all find one that is accurate please share

I tried Sports Tracker and had weird results; the gps zig-zagged across the map. I've been using Endomondo for two days now and the gps accurately maps my route and I'm off by a few feet instead of a few miles.
still sucks
Second day with Endomondo and got 4.25 miles for a 3.1 mile route
This is not going to work!
I use to have that problem(distances way off, zig zag tracking) until i went tinkering with the GPS settings on Cardiotrainer. i had the freq on 30secs (trying to save battery) but thats no good so i put it on 1 sec and although it murders my battery it recorded my distance really well my route is est 1.1 miles i went around 5 times and it said 5.6 miles. So if you havent done so check the Freq under the GPS/Ped menu in your settings. Also i have the filter on "Good" hope that helps

No I haven't. I might try something else today to see if it's an EVO 3D issue or related to Cardio Trainer. I have Nike+ on my Nano. I will compare the mileage on the two and report back.
I haven't had a chance to try any these of these apps on my 3vo, but I use it on my previous phone (Samsung Moment) during the first month when the GPS actually worked. I recall CardioTrainer having a setting that lets you get GPS updates more often. Has anyone tried messing with that(If it exists)?

That's not the issue, I have mine set at 1 sec and the distance tracking is way off. 3 out of 3 times I used it on the 3D.
I tried Endomondo last night and it did give me an accurate distance so I'm going to use that for now. I see that d12bn reports this is giving flawed results too so I'll watch for that.
Well it worked for me. what is your filter level set to??
Charge your battery to get 100% before going for a run. Let the app refresh/update the gps as much as it wants, you will get better results.

"Good" as recommended.
I didn't have any problem on the EVO4G with accuracy and I used it over 150 times in the previous year (also using 1 sec / Good). There is some problem with the EVO3D... maybe not even specific to CT.
d12bn - bad results with Runkeeper and Endomondo.
thetaman - bad results with CT.
PHAMOS1 - good results with CT.
OS10 - bad results with CT, good with Endomondo.
lionmane - bad results for Sports Tracker, good with Endomondo.
Used Run Keeper on my run during lunch today. It was off, but not nearly as bad as Cardio Trainer. I think off by a half mile and the average pace was too quick as well. I did notice earlier in my run that it was off more...improved the longer I went with the run. I may try other apps keep comparing.
thetaman: try Endomondo. Used it again today, same route, same good results as yesterday.
Mine has been wonky from the start but I got a new phone today so we'll see if this one does the same thing.
The Sat after the phone release (2 weeks ago) I drove for an hour and was only ever 30 minutes from downtown Columbus OH. During that hour, it lost the GPS signal at least 10 times.
Then I did a run with Runkeeper last Sunday and it tracked my 4.5 mile run as a 5.8 mile run.
I used this as an excuse to try a new phone so I'll report back once I get some results with the new one.

[Q] How accurate is your GPS?

i made a little test with Endomondo sport tracking application to see how accurate my gps is. I walked the straight street for 0.64 kilometers and this is what it looks like:
http://www.endomondo.com/workouts/ilRz0mnqvJA
I was wondering if that is normal or should it be more accurate? Or can i make it more accurate?
edit: don't mind about the duration, i forgot to turn the app off when i got inside!
My GPS isn't very accurate, but I am in the heart of Hong Kong, so I can't expect it to work well with so much interference. It would detect my exact location in Maps, but it the blue arrow won't lock, and jumps around to as far as two blocks away.
I've tried some gps improvement apps, but they do not work for me.
mine sgs2 does not have very good acuracy. My old htc desire was very acurated compared with sgs2

Wow, sorry but i kinda laugh when i saw the ziggyzag lines. No, the GPS shouldn't be that way, I've used mine several times while driving and it just flows smoothly, like a real GPS device! Once I even had 10 out of 10 satellites locked in a few seconds!
Maybe the GPS in your phone is defective or something, I say exchange your unit for a new one. Hopefully it's still under warranty

You cannot tell that from that log. It depends on the circumstances, e g bad reception due to high buildings can easily cause problems like this.
I suggest jankher does some more tests in others locations.

Interested in this thread.
I've had my SGS2 for a couple of weeks and have been testing the GPS for accuracy. From my experiences, the accuracy is OK when you are using a 'proper' satnav app (e.g. CoPilot) as the system knows to try and keep the arrow in the middle of the road.
However, one of my hobbies is Geocaching which I need an accurate GPS for and here's where I have had real problems. At a known cache location (i.e. standing exactly on top of it), my SGS2 showed 5 sats locked on, 25m accuracy & 32m to the cache !!! My HTC Wildfire (in my other hand) showed 8 sats locked on, 2m accuracy & 1m to cache.
Time to read more threads and see if this can be improved by software or if I'll have to think about keeping the HTC for caching (which would annoy my 11 year old who now has it) or consider selling the SGS2 and getting a HTC Sensation or Motorola Atrix.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 2 gps test?

Hello everybody from Xda,
I'm looking for a new phone for my mother and I am really interested to know what the GPS is like. If the gps is any good I will join the Xiaomi army.
Why am I so interested in this?
Well my mother her navigation system just died and, I would like to install the tom tom app on her phone, I've got it currently on my oneplus one without internet and it's great. My mom will also have no data plan with her phone so google maps or anything isnt an option for her
So my question to you guys is, does anybody of you have had any ecperience with the gps.
Thanks in advance XDA,
Deameong
I am curious about the same thing. I use GPS without any Internet or even phone signal (normally on airplane mode to save battery). And I would like to know how reliable it is.
Attached a Screenshot, few Seconds (about 30) after switching GPS on. GPS receptions is really good, from my point of view.

Just recieved it now,
Using google map and waze, locking on me very fast,
Looks good and stable with great reception of the GPS...
Can you say how much time in seconds need to lock satellites?
Thank You
Thanks alot for the advice guys,
Going to order it tonight!
I've just come back from holiday and I used GPS extensively with the offline Co-pilot app. It worked almost flawlessly both in the car and when cycling. I can't begin to tell you how much better it is than older MTK eqiluipped phones. Lock times varied from four seconds to nearly a minute. One thing I noticed is that it was much faster to lock in Co-pilot when I was connected to the internet. Accuracy was great, though I never went into a big city with lots of high rise buildings.
GPS, Wifi and network signal 2-3 times better than on my Note 4.
GPS is sick, in my room after 2-3 sec.

Hello,
Runkeeper with someone tried, I hesitate to buy the premium just because of that?
(avec Runkeeper quelqu'un a essayé, j'hésite à acheter le Prime juste à cause de ça?)
I really want to know about the gps as well. I use the gps so much. Now I have the lg g3, I would like to know if this one is around the same as g3.
Thanks
D.
Ill give uadvice gps locking depends onyour connection and area,i use gps in city with locking time vary from 10 -80 sec or more the signal was good but for gps signal its not good so it some time locks slower, this is qqualcomm 400 chipset ,newer version of mediatek might performs better and i have ever try gps with airplane mode one using gps test on aa mountain area and it lock 30 sec or less, the signal came out by it self with no connection so everything depend on your area and your xhipset ,newer chipset performs excellent on gps
I'd like to know more about how the GPS in this phone is faring for you because for me it's an endless horror story. Neither Google Maps nor Endomondo give even acceptable locations and tracking.
And the compass is so bad I wanna puke.
The phone is great in almost every other aspect, but GPS is fairly important for me and I'm starting to regret purchasing this phone. May it be fixed with better ROMs or is it a hardware fault?

I used it yesterday for half an hour in inner city traffic. The phone found the GPS signal in a few seconds with data connection, without it takes a minute or two. Navigation itself was worrisome. Went under a bridge and signal was lost for about 2 minutes. Then Google maps always thought I was going inside buildings or streets next to my actual route. Really weird.

And what is that information good for since the moment you open Google Maps, Runtastic or something along those lines it doesn't have any accuracy and keeps jumping the whole time?
I'm sick of people sharing screenshots of GPS Test or GPS Status like they're proof of anything when what's really important is real life apps behavior.
This device GPS should be good..

I don't know what you're on about, but GPS Test uses the same API and sensor as any other app. I'm getting the same 5-7 second fix indoors from GPS Test and HERE Maps. Both don't jump around and show my correct position.

Well we use diagnostic tools to know accurately if something is wrong or not, nothing wrong with that. With GPS Status we can know how many sat signal we got, how strong, what is the margin of error, etc.
And i don't have any problem in real life apps and GPS status confirmed that fact.
If you want positive info or help don't start with a negative.

China ROM GPS problem
But with china stable rom, the map apps is using Baidu, and if your GPS location is not available, the device will report your network location (wifi/3G), which is in simplified chinese to your requesting apps, that sucks, however, I can't deny the hardware GPS here in RN2 is the best I ever used.
I tried GPS in the city. High accuracy, pretty fast lock and it worked just fine, no problems. Accuracy is usually 3-5m, 17 satellites in use on average. I'm not exactly sure what kind of problems you're facing. However, I can tell you this. A friend has Meizu M1 Note, the GPS was at first very good. But somehow at some point after updating, the accuracy's became horrible, 80m+ and it kept losing connection, IF it managed to establish one. It's most likely not faulty HW, but a misconfigured gps config.

How is your GPS signal and navigation?

I find GPS reception quite bad compared to other phones be honest. Whenever I use navigation, the Google Maps and other apps shows am in other road beside the actual road I am in. Happens on any version of MIUI rom, am not sure about custom roms. Will try tomorrow.
When I compare this behavior to my previous phone OnePlus 3, the ratio of wrong location is like 10x higher with F1
Anybody with same issues?
Same issues here with Mi 8 (dipper), the issue persist with either latest Global Stable (Pie) and latest EU's Weekly.

No issue on my Poco f1, I have no such problem. You may try to install gps status & toolbox and see how was it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2&hl=en_SG
Besides, you may read below article:
https://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/google-maps-compass-calibration/
It quoted that:
"If it’s really wide, that generally means your magnometer sensor needs calibrating, and since the magnometer inside the phone is prone to interference from chargers, metal objects, and even other magnometers, it’s worth doing a calibration every now and again to keep it up to speed.
But enough bellyaching — how is it done already? The process is simple, and it’s exactly the same for both iOS and Android users — repeatedly wave your device around in a figure-of-eight motion until your direction narrows down.
Once you’ve completed a couple of these motions, your “flashlight” should have narrowed down, and should accurately respond to your movements better."

This is my issue as said in OP: Whenever I use navigation, the Google Maps and other apps shows am in other road beside the actual road I am in.
My location isnt accurate while driving. No issues with GPS signal at all, but when driving, navigation apps recalculate best route very often as it things I use different road than I actually do.
I get vey good fix and stable, accurate signal with Google maps too (Poco F1 EU region).

Stratos latest update

Hi guys,
I'd like to know what is the latest update version tody? Is it 2.3.10.x?
My watch is 2.3.7.0. When I use Amazfit watch app to check the update, it always tells me 2.3.8.0.
I don't like 2.3.8.0 because it will change all the buttons.
Can I go directly to 2.3.10.x from 2.3.7.0? How?
Thank you very much.
Regards.
2.3.10.x has the same button layout, so what do you think you can archive?
And no, OTA is a cumulative update.

Hi fzelle,
Thank you very much for your response.
So I'll go like this: 2.3.7.0 -> 2.3.8.0 -> 2.3.9.0 -> 2.3.10.0
For each update, I'll reboot the watch to make sure.
Hope that I'll get the same buttons layout at the end and no widgets issue, no battery drain issue known from the forum.
Best regards.

Thank you very much.
They updated the heart rate algorithm ; it seems to be much better. It also has "personal records/bests" for some sports. So far the latest update is good!

Finally I did the updates with success. No widgets issue, no battery drain. Yes, seems that HR works better and continous HR comes back.
I don't quite like the new buttons layout but I don't care now since the button functions are the same when doing workout activities. I will do more workouts to verify this.
One negative point about sleeping: If you wake up (in my case 30mn) and fall asleep later, then you will loose the first period of sleeping time. It isn't the 2.3.10.4 version issue, it occured also in my old 2.3.7.0 version.
Anyway good job to the developers.
Hello,
After doing some sport activities, everything works fine.
Finally, only sleeping issues left to resolve (my personal idea).
One issue was written in my above message. Another is sleeping time continues for more than 1 hr after waking up. It didn't appear everyday but several times 1 week.

My Stratos 2s battery last for 1.5 days. Airplane mode all the time and with continuous HR. Is it normal or battery drain. I just got it for 10 days and don't know if previous firmware had better battery life.
Continuous HR is a battery killer
Am I missing a setting or? Is it possible to adjust the interval between HR measurements? Continuous seems to be like every minute, but that seems a bit too frequent. Every 10-20 minutes seems OK, and wouldn't eat throught the battery as quickly.
Not that I know of so far, no setting for continuous HR interval. Turn it off did save around 10-15% battery per 24 hours. Not much as I expected
since last firmware update, my altitude measurements are completely off. I'm normally running a circular circuit and when I'm done and I check the status there are 40-50 m difference in height from he start to the end point, when I'm actually on the same spot
