Mediapad M5 pro panel brightness white background - Huawei MediaPad M5 Questions & Answers

Does any tablet owner here of M5 or same family tablet, has noticed if one of your display has an edge or sideline that is slightly slightly darker, during using a fully white background?
On my m5 Pro I've noticed that with a fully white backgroud, I do have an edge, close to the left bottom corner (holding the tablet horizontally) that is slightly gray rather than the right side. Off course that: if I'm rotating it, then it Will happear to the top instead.
If you don't stay there and looking at it for a minute, you don't notice it. But if you look at it and compare to the rest of the screen or other side, then you'll see this small difference.
Do you have same issue? Does it is an IPS display issue?
Ah! It makes it only with the White. Only the White. Other colors comparisions are fine.
Looking videos, pictures or anything else that does not push the screen to a very high density white in that side, it's fine.
You can try to see if you're having the same of opening the cleaning chache program, where there is a lot of White all around the screen. There you can watch side by side and every corner... and you can try too see if somewhere do you have a slightly white difference compared to the rest.
But as said above. Only white make this.
Videos, pictures with same colors side to side are fine. It's all about the White.
I've contacted the Huawei assistance trough Phone and they said that is normal and panels might do this, and if in doubt, I'm free to go to the Local official technical assistance in my town to have a confirm for it .
So I've done that! I've moved to the Local technical assistance and the technician told me that it might happens and it is not worthy of a repair, because changing panel might not solve the problem as this slightly slightly brightning difference might show on another side. Has more sense to wait if in these 2 years something going worse and repair it over warranty.
It's hard to see this difference of White brightness, and I've noticed that just because I'm a really fussy guy and ... off course I don't spend my time on surfing on the menus. It's also a post to understand it these kind of IPS panels may encount these issues.
Anyone here is experiencing this thing? Or are you watching all the sides of your tablet to see if do you have it aswell?

It's called uneven brightness, and reading notebookcheck's review said that it is above average. Seems you have received a dud, but it's likely within tolerance im afraid.

Are you sure It's a dud? In a FB group a guy said that he's even worse on his 8.4 because he has it all over the edges . And on a previous M3 he got, there was an even worse side with less brightness. And so He returned the tablet.
In my case, it's so soft that you don't notice it at all. You do have to search for it. And it happens only with the White.
It the technician in the store told me it's not worth a replace the panel, this slightly brightness might happpen and same issue might happen in another side, nobody knows. I wish to beleive him . Why He would had lied to me?
Anyway I've read the m5 review and they are showing the characteristic of the brightness all over the display. Yea, it is seems a trait of it, and a 0,25 cd/m2 is barely perceivable.
What's your opinion?

my M5 is perfect, no noticeable differences in brightness anywhere. Notebookcheck said that the 8 in model has poorer display anyway.
If it's not noticeable in normal use then it's fine.

Nah...exept The White background, it's ok on all use.
But as said above, if I do watch that edge to try to catch the eye to find this difference.
Technician said it's ok. Hope it is. I just want to know if anyone experienced this with this model or any other tablet with IPS display

Is there any reliable software for Android to do the same thing done by notebookcheck and testing the brightness? Like this:
I've checked that one on playstore, but I did not find nothing.
Any suggestion?

You need something that can detect the brightness, usually expensive hardware that connects to a windows machine. I think they start at around $500 or so. You could rent one i suppose. (if you could find somewhere or someone!).
But yeah it needs hardware.

What did you decide? I have one side that is darker or M5 10.8, not a pro version.
Should I try to replace it? It does not bother me much and I read here that there are more units, that come with more darker sides/edges.

The problem for me it's just a little and not worth a change for defect.
Because a repairing stores told me that quite always somewhere that little little darker side happear. It's not guarranteed that with a replacement it would not happear elsewhere. It's happening only with the White. Normal use the tablet is fine.
It's an issue of the IPS display, expecially large displays. That's Why i love the AMOLED all the way.
Technician said it's not for a change/repair, exept if it is gonna go worse.
So I'll keep it. Does your problem is so noticeable?

Did you had this issues also with other colors? If you were watching a movie or working on a picture was noticeable?
For me it's only the White, but you do have to look for it. It's same issues that have low/mid ranged TVs.
Not worth a change or a repair. Because it can ne elsewhere.
Does it is the same for you?

Yes, there was also a problem with other brighter colors. It was noticable only when browsing, but that's mainly what I do with a tablet. After a while I started searching for that darker side in various apps/colors, instead of enjoying a tablet.

Today I got a replacement. The screen looks more or less fine on the sides/edges both with white and other colors.

my m5 pro 10.8 is perfectly in balance.
iv´e tested with a white fullscreen wallpaper on max. brightness. everything is ok.
also other colors are fine.

...

every M5 screen has it. I had 3 pieces, each one had a near the status bar (battery, hour) visible only at a sharp angle. If you do not see it, you look at it badly. I stayed with the first copy. These two still had dead pixels. This is the construction of ips.

yeah i have no issues on mine, full brightness and looking from sharp angles doesn't make much difference at all. Slight brightness changes maybe, but same happens to any screen.

Screen problem: slightly visible moire-effect like pattern

I bought this phone 2 days ago, new, sealed, free from contract, and so far I love everything about it, except for this problem which I have found only today. I guess It was all the first excitement keeping me to notice earlier.
Like the thread's title says, it's like a perfect pattern across the screen, from edge to edge, consisting in perfect parallel 10-degrees-from-horizontal-oblique stripes. They are very very subtle and only visible on light backgrounds and more from looking from the upper part of the screen down.
Do not confuse them with the pixels matrix, whose density, by the way, is great. They are all right, and the effect described above seems to appear on a layer which is on top of those pixels.
To make an almost perfect comparison, this effect looks almost like the striped background from market.android.com (as seen on a computer), but with more subtle greish on white stripes inclined from right to left, and only like 10 degrees oblique from the horizontal. That is what's making me curious, why is that pattern oblique? If it were straight horizontals or verticals I would have confused them with the pixels arrays, and it would have been bearable. But like they are I can't stop but notice this pattern every time and it annoys me a lot! In GMail, Browser etc... all the apps with plain backgrounds...
It wouldn't appear on any close picture I tried to take, and I guess filming for you to see it isn't a good idea either, because you won't notice it. It's only visible with the naked eye, at a distance closer than 30 cm from the screen. It isn't also a problem of my eyes, because my wife is noticing it too.
Thank for any shared thought.

Much better to send you're mobile to the store were you bought it. because as what i have know the problem is the LCD. that is what they called wire stripe or ribbon.... maybe that is the problem. Try it, there is noting to lose.....
I see that too, only on light (white) backgrounds. I thinks it's normal, you may ask your local Sony Ericsson customer service or a phone shop, but I don't think this is a production fault.
On a dark blackground it is purely invisible.
Try it with and without the Bravia engine enabled.

sdk16420, thanks for sharing this, It is somehow a relief for me to know I'm not alone in this. Yet, I'll wait until next week to see if I can find more explanations, and then maybe I'll return it for a replace. It's especially bad for me, as I waited a lot to receive the silver one (a week or so), and I don't know if I can find another.

It doesn't depend on Bravia Engine, unfortunately. It was also the first thing that came into my mind, tried it several times, even with deactivating and rebooting, but the effect is persistent.
Again, it's only visible on light backgrounds, especially white and large ones (browser, gmail, etc). If you read this, please check yours also find some time to post a reply with the result. I would be very grateful.
Thanks!
I have the blue model but i can barely see that pattern with a screen flashlight (on full white) and i don't find it annoying at all in daily use of the phone.
You can check the screen from a new phone in a shop, to see if it looks like yours ... or you have a eagle eye
PS
check softpedia also
I think I can see what you're talking about on my Red Neo but only if I max the screen brightness and look really closesly (like practically inserting the Neo into my eye). 99.99% of the time I don't notice a thing.
I just followed your description and found the same with my neo, so I think it the LCD design. Not an issue to me indeed.
Does anyone have another phone model (e.g. Samsung, HTC) with a LCD touchscreen? Is it also visible on other phones?

I have a Samsung Galaxy S with SAMOLED, a HTC Desire with S-LCD and an Asus Transformer with IPS LCD, and they all have better screens. The Desire's is the most problem free, whereas the Galaxy S has problems with screen burn-in (or image retention, like some are identifying it, but for me it's still like the old good plasma screen burn-in ), and the Transformer's has light bleeding. But, like I said, when put aside, the Neo's looks the worst.
I don't know if you noticed it already, but it comes with another "feature" that is so annoying: it stays always on auto brightness regardless of the custom level set, maxing that automation on that custom level. It's so annoying, cause it's always too dark for me, and being a "feature" it doesn't have also a switch for that. At least it has for Bravia....

When I put brightness on 100%, and hold my finger on the light sensor, I don't see the screen getting darker. What does annoy me is that you can't make the brightness less than about 30%. I use widgetsoid for brightness adjustment, and the screen will only become darker than 30% if I hold my finger on top of the sensor. That sucks. I I want to sacve energy, I have to hold my hand there, while using the phone.
I don't see why people need the brightness that high anyways, aside from in some games with small hard to see details I'm perfectly fine with my brightness set at just 30% or even just 20%...heck I can still use the phone when the brightness is completely off though that does get a little hard to see everything.

I use it a lot outside, and its sunlight legibility isn't as good as SAMOLEDs or others, but that I knew from reviews before the buy. If it wasn't for the problem in this thread, I wouldn't be so harsh on it.
LE I se new posters here. Do you noticed the problem described in the first post? Does it bother you?

Weird spots underneath the screen?

Some time ago I noticed that, in some very special situations, like under direct and strong artificial/sun light and a particular angle, I'm able to see a couple of small, very faint spots, kinda similar to those left by dried moisture (like a drop of water) underneath the screen. At first I though it was my bad for putting on a wet screen protector, but just the other day I had a look at the device of a friend of mine (no protector wahtsoever), and looking closely I found similar spots, just not two but a single and bigger one. This got me a bit puzzled, so I decided to take a look at a third device, this time a demo unit in a shop, and guess what? Also that one had a similar mark right in the middle of the screen.
Now, not that this bothers me much, since you can't actually see it unless you really try (I can't even catch it with a camera), but I'd love to know from you guys if this is a common "flaw" or I just happened to grab a "flawed" handful of devices...
Yup, I have these dark patches. You can see them sometimes if you look at a particular angle when the phone is booting up. I can't see them any other time though
I can see dark patches when the screen is dimmed, especially at night, I can't see it any other times, Nokia returned it to me because they couldn't see it. So they asked to send it in again, it took them ten days to just flash a ROM....I was pissed as it is.
When the Display is off I can sometimes see some "blacker" areas on the screen. According to Nokia These are splices where the glass is somehow glued to the display.
Thank you guys, at least I feel a little better about it now...anyway it still puzzles me how this is the first device I own in years with this kind of issue, and I really had many, both resistive and capacitive, with or without gorilla and even made of plastic. I mean this isn't really a flaw, but knowing it's there annoys me. Damn, maybe I should really just stop being so OCD with my devices, it hurts

I still would class it as a fault, it makes my eyes burn.
Are you speaking about the spots which are visible in the dark if the screen is black?
I saw them when I did my screen black in diagnostics app - lcd test.
So I took a picture of "black" screen with long exposure (iso 400, 30 seconds exposure) and show it in nokia care service. Week after I got new display

Actually those aren't really "spots", it's some sort of light leak that all amoled devices have when displaying plain black: even if all the leds are supposed to be off there's still some electricity going through them. I had that on all of my amoled devices, on my Desire, on my SGS2 and on my Omnia W as well, it doesn't look that great but it's fine I guess. Weird that you still managed to get the screen replaced, maybe your unit actually had some excessive light leak.
Here I'm talking about a different thing, given that you have them you should be able to see those spots I described even with the device completely off if you keep it under a strong light and at the right angle.

Can't reproduce that. I look closely but see nothing special.
Though, as Russian proverb says - the less you know the stronger you sleep
Here is a picture of screen with the spots I was posting about.
So, if anyone have scratched screen as I had, it is a good reason to get repair
PS note that picture was taken with long exposure. Actually my eyes need to get used to darkness to see glow.

Yeah that's it, the good old light leak
Anyway the picture you took being overexposed gives the impression of a huge issue, so I guess they replaced the screen right after looking at that, even tho in normal darkness conditions it's definitely not so annoying. Good for you that you managed to get it replaced anyway
lol a 30 second exposure will bring out the worst of the display. I can understand they replaced it after showing that image that sort of tricks them because it will never be even close to that visible to the naked eye.
Completely normal for AMOLED displays.

Backlight uniformity?

I love my Xperia Z4 Tablet. However the backlight is noticeably dim on the bottom (when in the default landscape position) or the left hand side when in portrait (volume/power button facing up). It is most noticeable in portrait mode when there is a white background (Kindle, Chrome and Instagram most notably). I am willing to live with this issue, but was wondering if anyone else is seeing any issues?
For the price I paid, it would be nice to have uniform backlighting. But I am worried it could be worse on another unit. Expansys has offered me an exchange or refund but there is a delay in availability now that the first lot has sold out.
No problems with mine
I am sending mine back for an exchange. I miss it already
Now I noticed that too. The difference is really small, but it's there.

Interesting, the same with my tablet - seems to be a general problem
I don't know if I should return and change the tablet...
can you make a picture for us? I dont know what you mean? my backlight is perfect - no bleeding and no clouding )
I'm sorry, but it was not possible to make a picture where you can see this.
However I can only see it on white backgrounds - the first centimeter is slightly grayish...

It is not a hardware problem. I see the band only when the bottom menu appears. It looks like the transperancy issue with that menu layer.
Mine looks fine, just hope it is not something my eyes just don't notice, but others do.

No, I think it is a hardware problem - if I turn the tablet from landscape to portrait mode, white backgrounds are gray on the left. Btw for me it's only visible in portrait mode - in landscape mode the menu bar on the bottom is usually black or transparent...
It is definitely a hardware problem and it sounds like the backlight is weaker on several units on the bottom (when in landscape) or left hand side (when in portrait with power button facing up). It is a shame as it is very distracting to read on anything that doesn't have a dark or black background in portrait. Still waiting for my replacement unit As long as the replacement isn't worse, I will likely live with it as I really enjoyed (and miss) the tablet.

Try anything with an all white background. If you open Chrome with no web pages loaded and the new tab page up or Kindle with a white background and hold the tablet in portrait, you might see uneven backlighting on your left or right sides depending on the orientation.
Backlight direction is notable
Got my Z4 tablet yesterday. After reading some issues with the backlight I checked this at my device and can see there is a notable uniformity.
If you hold the device with power button upside, then one can see a thin bright line from the backlight LEDs on the left side, while the opposite screen edge is slightly darker.
It looks like the screen is only backlighted from one side. For the normal usage it is not really annoying, but it is there and you would see it, if you take attention for the issue.
Do other Z4 owners have the same effect?

I have the impression my Amazon Z4T packages was already a replacement from someone else. The box made used look, some scratches and one corner had a ditch.
It wasn't sealed in any way. The charge adapter cable looked out of its the small box. The screen protection layer made the impression it was reattached, a lot of air bubbles were included.
Can someone describe how he found the delivery when unboxing it?
Was it sealed?
I also consider a replacement, if the screen issue is not a general construction feature.
Oddly enough, I purchased mine from another supplier, and also felt the item had been handled if not used. USB cable was out of wrapping and screen protector had signs of being removed and re-applied. I received mine the day after they were available for sale. I am hoping my replacement looks like new and has minimal or no backlight uniformity issues.

Hopefully you get it soon and can report here the condition of the replacement.
I have 14 days left to send it back to Amazon for free.
Please also describe how it was packaged.
Are there any seals or blister foil?
I can't believe Sony delivers an open package to retail stores.
Unboxing videos on Youtube don't show this clearly.
Thanks in advance.

For me:
Not sealed.
Box in perfect condition.
Screen protector had a few bubbles, but not that many.
It was perfectly even on the tablet, edges protector = edges tablet.
Charge cable was in box, but it was wound a bit loopsided. But I think it more likely that it came that way - besides, how many people do even need those cables nowadays? Even if they need them, they likely will not use them when trying the tablet out.
Charge of 65%
Tablet itself:
I couldn't see a backlight uniformity issue, tried it with a white background with 100% luminosity in a dark room. Compared to the Z1 Tablet the screen looks a LOT dimmer in the dark, but I suspect that is more because the Z4 has some auto-dim function there. In bright light the Z4 screen looks slightly brighter.
What I noticed is that the speakers produce a fair amount of white noise. At 10% it is very noticeable, at 50% I do not hear it unless it is a very silent scene and I am concentrating on it. Somewhat annoying and IMO not something a tablet in that price range should have, but not annoying enough for me to play replacement bingo.
My seller is out of stock with a new batch due next week. I'll let you know when it comes. From what I can tell, Sony products are never fully sealed.

BOE screen Inferior. Anyone have a good one?

I know this is not the place to discuss general issues with the phone but I signed up as these forums have the most and best discussions on the issues. I am on my 3rd Mate 20 Pro as the first two LG ones had the screen bleed issue.
Now I have a BOE screen but it looks absolute trash. It lacks brightness and contrast and has a pink tint towards the top and a green tint at the bottom when you view white pages. Also when I watch videos I get awful colour banding etc on gradients. Also I get odd tints etc whenever I look at the phone from almost any angle. I am so so so disappointed.
I'm just curious if anyone has a BOE screen that is as good as the original LG ones (minus screen bleed obviously) as I don't want to send this back if I'm going to get the same crappy screen back. I'm so frustrated and will never buy a Huawei product again.
I have a BOE Seems really great, nice vibrant colours, whites and Blacks are really good. Only issue I have is if you turn off the adaptive brightness the powergenie dims most Google and Facebook apps. But the last few days I have left the adaptive brightness on auto and it seems to not dim as much. I tend to push the brightness up a little bit though.
Something I have noticed, not related to the screen, is I occasionally hear a little click in the sound, I'm not sure what that is. Unless big brother is activating my microphone. ?

I must admit, I do notice the colour issue mostly in Chrome but it doesn't seem to be exclusive to it. Plus the colour banding issue is really bad on mine. For instance, at 1:28 on this video (https:// youtu.be/tO01J-M3g0U) the sky has awful banding and also an actual flickering. I guess I have a bad display. I just wonder if they will see it or just send it back. It's definetly there and anyone used to good screens would see it however my aging parents said there was nothing wrong with it so it isn't obvious to anyone not used to an OLED screen and I imagine they could easily say they see no issues. Ahhhh.
No issues with my BOE screen. If you secretly swapped it with a (good) LG I wouldn't notice.

BOE is the best much much better then LG super
boe screens are better imo, this lottery with LG is awful
Cheers guys. I must just have a defect BOE. It definitely doesn't look right at all.

Ooooooh interestingly that is exactly what mine looks like but reversed and guess what... Same build number. Did you get yours replaced with Huawei or a retailer?
Got my BOE 18B23, looks great - you might have a faulty one.
Looks like a faulty BOE screen...I examined mine obsessively within my 2 weeks return period and found no issues. It MIGHT be a bit less bright that LG, but I am comparing it with Youtube videos and Interweb pics, so it's a false call.
Happy so far.
Definitely looks like you have a defective BOE display. I got mine today (18B23) and it's great, at least compared to my old V30 it's much better.

I received a refund after an email to the Carphone Warehouse CEO. As the IMEI I had was from Huawei not CPW. The CPW have been absolutely fantastic to me.
I went yesterday hell bent on a pixel 3xl. But I was drawn toward the Mate 20 Pro. After much discussion with the manager I ended up walking out with a Mate 20 Pro, 18B26 and it absolutely perfect. It's what the phone should have been from the get go. Uniform, responsive, fast fingerprint scanner, sharp and vibrant.

I have EXACTLY the same problem as you. This is also my 3rd Mate 20 Pro. First was LG, with the green glow issue, that was visible only in dark room with brightness set to minimum and grey background (I am still mad why I returned it, because it was better than BOE) . My second device had a BOE screen with very very bad screen uniformity at low brightness. And now my third Mate has also BOE screen with the same problem as yours. Lower half of the display has a green tint and the upper half has a pink tint. I dont mind if the screen has a tint, because that can be "repaired" by tweaking color temperature. But this is super annoying. When you scroll on sites with white background you can see how it goes from green to pink tint. Otherwise screen is great and therefore I also have a concern about the next device that I might get as a replacement, as this is clearly a lottery now. I am probably going to wait until like a month and then try to get a replacement (I hope they will admit something is wrong with the display) . It is not really affecting the day-to-day usage of the device, it is just my eyes and heart is hurting when looking at the display. Maybe I am just too picky, but I expect from the device which costs 1k€ to be worthy of its price in every department, especially display.

This complete echos my device and my sentiments about the whole thing. For the money this device should not have the issues. It is a fact. This is my first Huawei device and I'm almost certain it will now be my last.
I also don't know which device I would buy, instead of Mate 20 Pro. Once you get used to this IR facial recognition, fingerprint scanner becomes almost useless. It works in every conditions and it's sometimes even too fast. I've been using Mate 9 for the last 2 years and it was super fast from the first to the last day. I got used to the EMUI, gestures are awesome! Oh, and I must not forget about the wide angle lens, it's great. I was thinking about the Note 9, the best display, performance wise also very good (not on pair with Kirin 980 though), camera also very good, fingerprint scanner on the back with facial recognition that is significantly slower and on top of that it's still Samsung, which means that it will get very slow in just a year from buying it (it's also almost 100€ more in my country). Another alternative is OnePlus 6T, display is good, performance it's excellent, software is the best right now, the cameras are on pair with the Note 9, but it lacks wireless charging, IP rating, facial recognition depends only on camera (it doesn't work in the dark) and I can't get it from my carrier. Mate 20 Pro is also the King when it comes to the battery life! So from my point of view, there are no real alternatives to the Mate 20 Pro and I really don't know what to do. Part of me wants to get a replacement ASAP (I am scared of that also), but the other part wants to get something else, because this is going nowhere.
I think a lot of the XDA reports about the LG screens being defective were phony and were made to create mischief and discourage people from buying this phone.
When the gluegate reports started coming in on XDA easily 70% were from XDA accounts that were new and were opened specifically to report supposedly defective screens. How could anybody not have found that suspicious?
The supposed screen bleed issue is a joke. People were comparing the folded OLED on the Mate 20 Pro with Samsung phone screens that don't have folded OLED displays. Obviously the results are going to be different because they are not the same kind of displays. It is 100% normal to have bleed on the edges with a folded OLED display and it is also normal for the edges of the display to look lighter when doing the "uniformity test" that people were told proved the displays were defective.
If you go into the display settings it takes less than 10 seconds to make it appear that your screen has "gone hulk" and take a screenshot.
I have a UK Mate 20 Pro that was preordered before launch. It has an LG display from the initial batch that multiple XDA members claim were 100% defective. The display looks great and is not defective in any way.
A few weeks ago I purchased a 256GB global version and planned to upgrade. But that phone had a BOE display that was very inferior to the LG one so I ended up returning it. The BOE screen had washed out colors and was noticibly less bright than the LG display which is the reason people don't see screen bleed at the edges. Pixel response was also slower than the LG display.
A lot of people who participated in a "screen lottery" and kept returning M20P phones until they got one with a BOE display ultimately found that those displays had inferior color and brightness to the LG display.
I'm pretty certain there was nothing wrong with the phone you returned. Unfortunately I have seen 3 M20P phones with BOE displays and all 3 had washed out colors compared to the LG display.

Uneven black levels

Anyone else having this issue? When I switch to the dark mode it's obvious the black level from one corner to the other is not the same.
A black saturation test clearly shows the bottom row visible when the device is rotated one way and then not visible the other way.
Anyone else getting this? I'm going to ask for a replacement.

Damn, that's almost exactly the same.
I just got a full refund for mine as the shop I bought it from had no stock for a replacement. Another one on the way from another retailer, hoping the display is in better shape.
The quality control on these appears to be a bit crap.
OneUI uses dark grey on the Tab S and Note10... There are many, if not infinite variations of grey that approach black. I do art, so it's easy to notice that #000000 was substituted.
SD_black is black, OneUI simply has a dark mode. Also black cannot be uneven on OLED, because black refers to an off state.

You're just splitting hairs.
Black can appear uneven on defective OLED displays. If you use a black saturation or black clipping test you can clearly see with the tablet or phone rotated one way that the bottom row is barely visible (which is normal), but rotate it another way and suddenly they're all clearly visible, they're only visible because that part of display is defective.
I have OneUI on my phone as well, there is no visible banding and black/gray levels (whatever you want to call them) are uniform. If you're seeing any variation then you got a bad display and you should get it replaced.
Similar here. But mainly noticeable in very low brightness especially with night mode on

Display tester, first match on the play store. Find the black saturation test
Or you can use something like the below, loads of similar tests available on the Play Store or online.
https://www.avforums.com/threads/ho...el-on-oled.2204710/#lg=thread-2204710&slide=0
Replacement arrived today and it's even worse than the first one, instead of one corner it's right down the centre of the display.
Also found an easier way to highlight the issue, using the image tester select the burn in test and move all the sliders to the left, this should give you black. Then slowly move the green slider over, you'll notice some parts of the display become green when the rest remains black, at least up-to a certain point. Took the image below in good lighting.
The Amoled lottery. I had to go through many returns before I got a Tab S3 that didn't have unacceptable display uniformity and things don't seem to have improved a lot since then.
I guess that it's cheaper for Samsung to deal with the returns of customers who notice and care about this than simply having better quality control in the first place. Reviewers of course get cherry-picked samples so the quality of the display can be praised to high heaven.
Really makes me think twice about even considering upgrading though...

Is your display like that for every image with that gray scale? Or is it just elements of the UI settings, dialer, contacts etc when you have dark mode enabled?

I'm doing this through Amazon,
I did call Samsung support hoping to speak with someone and they basically just said take it to a Samsung store, I'd rather not waste time with that, they'll just pretend they've never seen the issue before and send me back to retalier for a replacement.

you can even see it on on xda black theme.
But since this is a common issue maybe manufacturing level, I rather leave it like this, because I do not want to end up with an even worse one.

hi
hours ago i found that when a blank tab is opened in samsung internet (i am using dark mode in system as well as the samsung browser) i could see the uneven black on the screen. i tried to rotate it but still the uneven black was there on the left and right hand sides in landscape mode, and on the top and bottom after i rotated it. so it should not be the ui or one ui problem
i remembered i have read this post so i revisit it and found many of you have the same problem. when i bought this tablet i have check via *#0*# to see how the black was and it's perfect. i also checked with *#0*# before replying to this post and the black was perfect too!
i am too wondering what could be the problem. i think it could be the dark mode which does not use true black (pixel off) in fact

Yeah, It's not the dark mode, this issue effects everything.
If it was just One UI I could ignore it, but sadly it's not. Essentially you have different parts of the display clipping at different black levels, even the sections that are relatively good still look patchy.
Samsung screwed us all but it's OK because it's not a popular product so nobody cares, prime example of how useless reviewers are as well because none of them picked up on it, cherry picked parts from Samsung probably.
