Installing newest TWRP without odin - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I have problem:
My S3 just doesn't want to be recognized by PCs I have any more. It also acts strangely that sometimes it just doesn't want to charge and when it completely drains of the battery, this happens: https://forum.xda-developers.com/ga...ower-hands-t2354859/post77159482#post77159482
Problem with connecting with PC is that the phone doesn't want to be recognized when in download mode on two PCs and few different USB cables I have. I've installed all the drivers and so on. The problem must be in the phone itself...
My current recovery is TWRP 2.8.0.0 and I would like to update it to latest 3.2.2.0 but TWRP comes only as .img and because of connection problems, I can't use Odin to flash it.
Currently I'm using UltimaROM which has really bad battery life compared to archidroid rom which is THE BEST rom for S3 (if I could only keep it stable). To compare,UltimaROM drains battery in a day on standby while on Archi it lasted amazingly 15 days!!!
So, any idea how to:
1. install latest TWRP
2. stabilize archidroid
3. recommend me best battery life/performance rom

@gesaugen: try mobileOdin or TWRPmanager

You can put the TWRP onto an SD card, boot into TWRP, and flash the newer version.

@audit13: TWRP 2.8.0 cannot flash images, this feature is added in 2.8.4.

ok, I've tried both and none worked:
TWRP manager can't install .img files and mobileOdin Lite doesn't give me option to select file to flash as is shown on YT videos about it although I've downloaded .apk for my device (i9300)
No luck there
also I've experienced strange problem after trying to boot into OS (UltimaROM) - it asked me for SIM pin and after entering it immediately I got the error that the com.android.systemui has crashed.
So by looking at the pattern, it seams like the pone can't hold on to system files after it has been powered off for longer periods of time (I've been keeping it shut down for few days till yesterday). Any idea why is that? Is there some internal battery that is used to power the phones vital functions which can go bad?

@gesaugen: I didn't use MobileOdin nor TWRP-Manager. TWRP-site says, that their app downloads and flashes images (only), but cannot flash them from extSdcard for now.
Closing systemui can be caused by any fatal fault, but mainboard and RAM haven't eternal live either. General test and remedy is flashing a 3part-firmware +PIT-file by Odin. You can enter Downloadmode normally?

I've flashed Archidroid FW via recovery as I've had it on the phone already. It flashed normally and the phone works fine (for now). I'll test it by letting it drain it's battery to the max and then try to recharge it as that caused problems with OS last time it happened (the Archidroid had to be reinstalled fully because after battery drainage, when it tried to boot, the phone acted like it had factory reset but it couldn't finish configuration of the system so it started to boot loop like it has constant factory reset. That was happening until the OS was re-flashed via recovery)
yes, I can enter the download mode normally but my phone can't be recognized by PC, tested on two PCs...

I like to proceed step by step If you want to make a clean base, you'll have to repartition and reflash firmware. Next step is to delete all your Samsung stuff (drivers, KIES...) from your PC. Then reboot and install SamsungDrivers (Win10 does it automatically iirc) and Odin 3.13.1. Boot S3 into Downloadmode and connect to PC (use USB-port of mainboard). Connects?

Mobile odin has to be the full paid version to flash. As far as I can remember it won't flash img files either.
Your other options are to flash a zip version of twrp or repair the USB port.

problem is that there isn't .zip version of the TWRP for S3

@gesaugen: not on official site. Use xda-search function.

nope, cant find TWRP .zip for i9300...

Many thanks! I've flashed that zip via recovery and then flashed newest .img via that new recovery. Now I have the newest TWRP for S3 :good:
Now it's only the question will the phone continue to act strange after the battery drainage...

If you have root, you can use TWRPManager app from playstore. Allready updated 3 times and allways worked. (you need to get the .img file, after downloading, reopen the app to be able to choose the file & flash it.

Brain is about to explode

I am trying to install a stock or custom recovery mode for the time being. I have lost the recovery mode trying to install a custom ROM. Now no matter what I do, I just can't install a recovery mode.
CWM - odin's progress bar is stuck on 0%
TWRP - odin crashes after you click start on the program
Installing from SD Card - soft bricks the phone since it will force into recovery mode.
I truly need a lot of help and would appreciate any assistance or someone to message to guide me step by step. Thanks.

Just in case -- flashing with Odin may require that you are using the stock Samsung USB cable. Are you?
Everything on it is still factory stock, except it is rooted which has been working properly for some time. Worst case scenario I might have to redo this. This is my first custom rom installation basically.
It's the stock USB cable that came with the Note. And I also tried different USB ports.

What's the exact filename you are trying to flash? I remember when flashing recovery to my Note (AT&T-branded Note), I loaded cwm-touch-i717-120414.tar.md5 into the "PDA" field of Odin version 1.85 and left the check-boxes as-is.
Have you used Odin ever before to flash this phone? I'm wondering if the driver has been installed so your PC can recognize the Odin mode that the phone is in. I recall the driver I used was USB_Driver_for_ATT_I717_Galaxy_Note_v1_3_2200_0.exe

I've used Odin before to root my phone and had no problems with it. The file names are:
openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.1-sgh-879.img.tar.md5 (Crashed Odin)
clockworkmod_touch_recovery_5.8.4.3_i717.tar (Odin had no progress)
openrecovery-twrp-2.3.1.1-i717.img.tar.md5 (Crashed Odin)
I can't find any of the latest version of CMW or TWRP for a CM10 installation that works.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong but since you're rooted, can't you install goo manager and have it install the recovery?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
Ye you could install it from there or from ROM manager either way though quick ? Is Ur USB cable a good working one? Have you tried attempting the odinizing through another pc? That's for the fella havn issues.

I've used it twice and it's very easy to follow. download the zip they have under "sponsored link" and use the Tar in the zip. Also verify that your phone is being seen by your computer, it should display in your device manager as well as show a COM in odin.
USB is fine, no bends, kinks, or frays. The computer recognizes the cord for charging and accessing the phone and the Yellow or Blue COM shows up properly in Odin. I tried the GooManager to install TWRP and it downloads the recovery, says it is installing it and after about 10 minutes goes back to the home screen. No successful installation notification or anything. ROMmanger just fails for me. It shows my recovery as 5.X.X.X and when trying to flash it just hangs on the Flashing popup forever until the screen turns off or a button is press or the screen is touched.
The phone is rooted fine, I just need to put the samsung recovery, twrp, or cwm on it to update it to the latest version to install CM10. Right now there is no recovery mode, just download mode for Odin.

If you tried installing all those recoveries in odin and failed, I would try starting over from scratch. When people soft brick their phones they go here and follow instructions. That link has an odin .tar prepared with the stock AT&T Kernel, System, and Recovery. Notice it says RECOVERY! After flashing that in odin you should be able to boot into recovery and take over from there.
Try that and report back!
I have an idea...do away with Odin altogether
but it's advanced and could potentially brick you.
Take a tar with the recovery you wanna use and extract that file. Take recovery.img and put it on your sd-card (put it on the internal and external sd-card just to be sure).then connect to pc.
Now Issue the following adb command. I SUGGEST YOU COPY AND PASTE IT, IF YOU TYPE IT WRONG YOU WILL HARD BRICK YOUR PHONE
adb shell dd if=/sdcard/recovery.img of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p22
I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF YOU BRICK

[q] help - touch screen doesn't work!

Hi,
I have a Galaxy S3 I9300.
I tried to flash a stock rom a couple of days ago and something went wrong.
Now my touch screen doesn't respond, it's the weirdest thing, I guess I flashed a corrupted file with Odin.
Anyway, I couldn't enter recovery mode (the phone kept roobting when I tried), I managed to flash the CWM recovery and now I can enter recovery mode.
I could flash a rom via external SD card, but still no luck, now I have paranoid, but still the only buttons that work are the home and shutdown (physical buttons) the touch screen just doesn't respond...
What can I do ???

which stock rom did you flash a couple of days ago?
If you can get back to recovery now then try download mode too and reflash your countrys/carriers original firmware to what it was before. Then re-root and flash philz recovery and then a custom ROM from the internalSD.

I've tried so many ROM's to repair that I'm not sure regarding which one is the corrupted one...
I'm almost sure it was downloaded from the link in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187081
Before flashing a new ROM boot to recovery and manually wipe cache partition and dalvik and format data/system/cache from mounts and storage. After that the phone wont reboot so pull the battery and put it back in and boot to download mode then flash via Odin. Also try Odin v1.85 too.Ive used both v1.85 and v3.07 and sometimes had issues with the newer one.
try this with a different firmware than the first one you used.

So, I have done what you suggested.
And now, the left bottom 'menu' button work!
it's not a physical button, and It didn't work before.
I know it sound crazy, but this is the situation.
I've tried doing it a few times more, and nada, still the same..
I've tried more roms, but nothing seems to help...
Any ideas anyone ?
Sounds like damage to the hardware from flashing a rom not for this phone .
Good point from JJEgan mate. What was the ROM you flashed to your phone and is your phone an i9300 or i9305?.Maybe another varient..?.Makes a big difference.

I have the international I9300.
All the stock rom's that I tried contained '9300' in their name...
the custom roms that I tried were Paranoid and Cyanogenmod.. I was pretty careful regarding the exact model type.
I think maybe at one time I accidentally plugged out the phone while odin was in the reset stage and didn't get to PASS yet.
Can this explain the symptoms ?
If indeed there is a hardware problem, is it fixable or should I begin grieving ?
Flash stock rom via Odin .
Post at what point it fails .
If you unplug your phone in Odin mode you could kill it.Atleast it was at the end.You said you have formatted and reflashed again and I guess that about all you can do but do it a couple more times with your countrys firmware just to make sure.Keep an eye on the flash bar on Odin an watch to see if anything doesnt flash or skips.
I hope you didn't flash a note 2 rom (i and some other users flashed the kernel of note2 and the digitizer was dead), you can read in one of my posts and I'm sure there are other users. Not so many but still.

What am I doing wrong?

Hey,
I have since become a S3 ... I have rooted it and wanted to play another Rome.
First I flashed my Carbon ... that was wonderful, but I had no wifi. Then I tried another Rom (with aroma installer). When I had WiFi, but since I have the menu did not like it and it was me too many Samsung Apps.
Now I have flashed me the Resurrection Remix, but the S3 boots constantly new to the CWM.
The same I have with CM11.
What am I doing wrong please?

You need to install exactly like below don't miss any steps
-Installation-
1.- Wipe data / factory reset (mandatory if you coming from STOCK OR 4.2.X version or another ROM)
2.- Install the Main ROM
3- install gapps
4.- When you're back on recovery go to Advanced
5.- Wipe Dalvik Cache
6.- Fix Permissions
7.- Wipe Cache Partition
8.- Reboot
If it still not working flash TWRP recovery and use that to flash the rom
Hey,
I just did it. Then came the Samsung logo, phone restarts and I'm back in the CWM.
Have just flashed TWRP reboot (via CWM) Recovery and but still have CWM.
Grrrrrr ...... what for now
Better download official firmware from Sammobile and install thru Odin. Then Root and carry on with your favorite custom rom.

Problems after installing original ROM

I had an costume ROM installed, but at one point, while trying to change the recovery it bricked, and I just received errors like "Messenger has stopped" for every sing app (even system) and the screen all blacked, then I reinstalled the costume ROM again, but it got worse, cause I could only see a black screen, and had to remove the battery. So I decided to go back to the original recovery and installed the original, official ROM, and when I installed it appeared "Unfortunately System UI has stopped" every second, so I wiped the data in the original recovery mode and it worked, but now it appears the message: "Unauthorized actions have been detected" and it asks to restart my phone, that message is appeared all the time too. How do I get rid of it?
And the boot when i turn the device on is still the one from the ROM Note 7 style (white), how do I change that to?
If you still have TWRP installed you can try this method to change boot logo.
For the other problem try to use your last working backup, if it won't work - wipe everything and then flash original image throught Odin.

I guess, I will need to install TWRP again, and do that to change the boot logo;
I never had a backup, so should I wipe everything again (In TWRP?) And then install the original ROM throught Odin again?
To be sure wipe everything including internal storage - recovery and download mode will remain, everything else will be lost so make a backup of important files. Download latest firmware from Sammobile and flash it through Odin (search for SamFirm on xda to download faster). That should do the work.

Help with bootlooped galaxy tab 10.1

Hello, I am searching for help with my bootlooped galaxy tab 10.1
It's stuck on the secondary logo that is a glowing
"samsung"
I have clockwork recovery installed along with correct usb drivers.
Samsung kies does not recognize device.
Odin crashes when attempting to load files.
I have a quality usb cable
Model # is gt-p7510ma ,no SD card option.
Did you recently flash a new ROM to cause it to boot loop, if not, what were you doing that caused you to reboot the device? If unsure, try using Logcat to see what is causing the problem.
If you have a backup, try wiping device and restoring from that, or if you did flash a rom right before try wiping and flashing another to see if that is the problem.
Odin crashes when attempting to load files.
Use Latest version of Odin , Reinstall your phone drivers , when you put files make sure you put in right place and let him a while to load that files don't touch anything . Once is finish with loading then put your galaxy in to the Download mode and connect on PC .
I received it in this condition. I was able to put clockwork on it through odin but not the stock rom I think. Odin crashes when trying to put the regular tar file on it. I'm not opposed to using rom either. I was told the tablet is rooted and given passwords/pin #for whatever.
