Device lags heavily when I connect to Wi-Fi - any solutions? - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a Nexus 5 with Marshmallow and it is rooted.
Whenever I connect to Wi-Fi after a long time, the device gets extremely slow and apps often hang for a minute. I believe that too many apps get triggered when Wi-Fi is connected and all of them start doing their work at the same time and system cannot handle this. This belief comes from the experience that I start getting notifications of different apps one by one while the device is still lagging heavily.
I have disabled Doze mode using a root powered app so when I leave the device with Wi-Fi on for some time, the device doesn't hang when I pick it up later. But still when I leave the device with Wi-Fi turned off, it will hang as soon as it finds a WiFi connection.
Is this really the reason of such lags? What can I do to avoid this lag? Can I use an app to find out which apps use this permission to detect connectivity changes, and then disable such apps? Can these updates be arranged so that they trigger one by one, and not all at once?

[Q] Wifi connection gets disabled on sleep...

I have a GTab runn Vegan 5.1 and it runs great. The one issue that I have is that my Wifi gets disabled each night when it goes to sleep. When I say "disabled" I do not mean this it disconnect, but rather that something is actually putting it into a "Disabled" state and I must select the connection and choose to enable it.
Does anyone have any thoughts on what could be doing this? I have dug through every setting I can think of and also looked at any apps that might be doing this. I even went so far as to remove all my battery saving apps, but no dice.
Any suggestions?

Have the sleep policy set at never and this does not change anything. From what I understand this setting will disconnect wifi when the device goes to sleep. In my case the connection is not disconnected but rather completely disabled. So it seems that there is some other thing disabling the connection.
So, to give a bit more info here, I have installed wifi keep alive to try and save the connection. This keeps the wifi from being disabled when it is plugged in, but it still gets disabled when it sleeps and is also unplugged. (I.e. on battery and sleeping)
So, I am starting to think that the setting that fixes the problem while pluggedin is settings / applications / development / stay awake. I have this turned on and it seems that with stay awake and the wifi keep alive I am good when plugged in.
So, does anyone have thoughts for a similar setting when on battery power?
I can't help to much with battery power since I almost always have mine plugged in.
It's odd that not helping you, once I made that chance I stopped having my Wifi turn itself off (not sleep, off, and the tablet would need to be reset a lot).
Sorry that wasn't much help.
Having this problem as well. Anyone know how to fix?
If you notice other weird stuff happening in the future you may need to repartition your internal memory. Mine started with similar flubs and progressed to never remembering logins online. I had to login to xda every time I turned my device back on. Keep this in mind, about 30% of people need to reformat.

"WiFi stay alive" will help you!

can you give some info as to how one would go about doing this?
For what its worth, might help to set a fixed IP address. I often got a problem with Wifi not being able to reconnect because it got stuck on "getting an IP address" and failed to do so. I seem to remember it disabled the connexion to that AP after too many tries on my Nexus One.
On my g tablet, I was having what seemed to be the same problem, so I did the same thing and it seems stable since. Granted I didn't toy with it as much as I did on the N1, but I wouldn't be supprised if it were a general Android problem.
Anyways, its free to try.
The wireless uses a lot of power. When the tablet "sleeps", it should go into a power saving mode. Disabling the wireless is a feature, not a bug.
Either way how can I keep the wifi signal on so when i wake my g tab up the wifi is ready to go and does not have to reconnect?
anyone have anything to help with this?
I am not sure, but it seems to me that downloaded apps can play with wifi this way, as long as they have rights to "access internet, modify and bla-bla-bla".
I am having same problem after sleep. And it was not present from the beginning. It may starts after I upload some app. I will play with this after coming back home.
yes please let us know thank you!

When my tablet is plugged in and it goes to sleep, the Wifi also disconnects, so I don't think this is a feature any more than the screen angle issue is a "privacy feature." I've never had an Android device that powered down connectivity when the screen goes off, that totally negates the notification features. You basically have a comatose tablet after a few minutes of the screen being off.
I don't think the Xoom or Galaxy Tab have this problem, so there's definitely an issue. Sadly, I might be sending mine back to TigerDirect as faulty because of this.
I have this problem too. As others have said, the problem isnt that the wifi turns off when the tablet sleeps. The problem is the last connected access point gets disabled so when you wake, you have to go into settings and tell it to connect again.
In my case, it happens most of the time, but not always. My Android phone doesnt have this problem.
I did a factory reset, then used nvFlash to restore, and then did a fresh install of Vegan (thought it did the same on every other 2.2 ROM I tried). I didn't install any apps, and the problem still occurs. Tried using Wifi Fixer, and the problem still occurs (though on the bright side, it does reconnect about 10 seconds or so after waking).
I'm out of ideas. I hate to send this thing back because it's the most fun piece of tech I've had in years, but a comatose Android device is a dealbreaker Going to try a GB ROM, and then I give up.
I've got the same kind of issue. I lose my PSA key in my wireless settings every time and have to re-enter it.
I installed the Vegan GB ROM (along with pershoot's kernel), and the wifi stays on if you choose "Never" for wifi sleep (you have to hit the menu button and choose "Advanced" when you're in the wifi settings). Only problem is, the GB ROMs, while zippy, are a little raw right now, and my Launcher Pro GMail widget doesn't work
I'm going to try one of the 2.2 ROMs again today along with pershoot's Froyo kernel to see if it makes a difference.
Ok, YMMV, but I am using Calkukin's ROM with pershoot's kernel (was using Clemsyn's before), with wifi set to never sleep, and my wifi doesn't sleep any more. I left my phone and tab here at work while I went out for lunch (felt naked ...), and came back about 45 mins later, woke the tab, and wifi was still connected, without that "looks connected, oh the icon is now disconnected, oh it's back again!" bit.
I still receive notifications and email, and widgets update. Guess I'm keeping it

[Q] Notifications arrive during sleep

I'm running on stock 4.1.2 and mobile data is always turned off. "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep" is set to "Only when plugged in" so the phone should only connect to Wi-Fi when it's in use. It seems that the phone periodically connects to Wi-Fi even though it's been idle for extended periods (e.g. an hour) because it's able to deliver notifications (e.g. gmail and hangouts). Other Android devices that I have, including Nexus devices with the same settings don't deliver notifications until they are "awoken".
This might also explain where a lot of battery goes. Does anyone else experience this and does anyone know if other phones/brands/models behave like this?
I presume you got an app that keeps waking the phone up every so often. Which then enables Wi-Fi to activate. Or an app stopping your device from sleeping properly. If phone is on charge then Wi-Fi on all time.
Wrong forum by the way Q&A forum.

Thanks for the reply and sorry for posting in the wrong place.
I installed Wakelock Detector and I can seen numerous "CPU wakelocks" and "wakeup triggers" but no "screen wakelocks", so I didn't expect a Wi-Fi connection to be made unless I turned the screen on and started using the phone? Perhaps I misunderstand the meaning of "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep", especially the meaning of "sleep"? And, it still doesn't explain why other devices with the same apps installed don't behave this way. That's why I wondered if it was something to do with mods that Samsung have made to the software?

The meaning of "Sleep" in Android is when the CPU is in a mode called deep sleep, the device is set to a really low power setting so it will just run, apps can wake the device up ie take it out of deep sleep if they need to sync with a server, etc and this is what a wake lock up, an app waking the device up, and as the device is out of deep sleep for those few seconds it can switch wifi on, I personally keep wifi and mobile data on all the time so I don't know much about it.
Thanks, it looks like I have misunderstood the meaning of "sleep". I do have apps that would run periodically.
For example I use SugarSync, which I have set to only backup while on Wi-Fi and when the device is plugged in. I assume that it will have a timer set (or cron job in the old speak) so that the app can run and check for the required conditions before attempting to backup? I guess when this happens, Wi-Fi might connect and any other app that wants Wi-Fi (like Gmail or Hangouts) would take advantage of the connection? I suppose that my older devices (that run Android 2.3) might not have time to connect and so don't get the notifications that the Galaxy S3 does?

How can I disable the Connections Manager?

I set "Keep Wifi on during sleep" to "Always". I do this with all of my devices, as I like to have them connected to Wifi if it's available as soon as I wake it up.
However, the connection manager (or some other app/service) on the Desire seems to take control nearly every time I hit the power button. The phone comes on and I'll be connected to Wifi. But then it switches off and connects to the 3G/4G data signal for a few seconds. Then switches back to Wifi. This is especially annoying when I've already launched an app and it disconnects me.
I tried using Titanium Backup to "freeze" an app that is called something like Connection Manager, but this odd connection flip still occurs.
Does anyone know what is causing this and how I can fix it? I'm still on 4.2 if that makes a difference.
Thank you!

I'm not sure how you do it after-the-fact but I know when I first setup the device on VM it popped up and you had to consent to use it and agree to the terms. If you say no to both of the those the app never bothers you again. I'm not sure how you get back into the app though to disable it after it being allowed to run.
You could try going to Settings -> Apps -> ALL and then force stop the program and clear all the cache/data/defaults maybe it will clear out your consent to use the program and your agreement to usage terms allowing you to say no the next time it runs.

Loosing WiFi-Connection

Since the beginning I have the problem that my 360 constantly looses Wifi connection as soon as Ieave the WiFi settings menu on the watch.
So I press connect to a wifi, then leave that menu, go straight back into that menu and the watch starts to reconnect. I let it reconnect, leave the menu again, go back into wifi settings and again it start to reconnect. And so on. I'm running Android Wear 1.3.2230669 Build LLA44S
Is 1.4 already available for the 360? I got the Android Wear-App-Update today.
The same thing happens to me and I am running the same version...not sure if Bluetooth has priority and thats why it keeps disconnecting? I had problems with the Google services that kept crashing and found it had something to do with the WiFi as when I turned it off I was no longer getting the Play services fault message.
I have passed the info onto Motorola and they have just told me its being passed to the relevant department.

Yes, it seems so Bluetooth has priority and wifi will only be use if Bluetooth isinaccessible or the Smartphone is out oft range

Constant disconnects

For some reason my watch constantly disconnects from my phone (a One plus 2)
The Android wear app says trying to connect, but the only way is to reboot the phone. It connects again, but then will disconnect later, I'm assuming when the phone goes into deep sleep?
The android wear app has been set to "not optimised" in the phone settings.
Is there anything else to check?
I've removed Greenify and Power Nap to see if that helps, but it's the same.
Phone is running latest Marshmallow from and watch is all up to date

Are you using OxygenOS? I'm on CM13 and having same disconnects with my Oneplus2 - watch get disconnected 1-2 times per day.
Thought toggling Bluetooth Off/On resolves the issue for me, but temporary.
Is there a way to have constant connection between phone and watch?
Since changing my OS to paranoid android on my phone and removing things like, Power Nap and Amplify, I have had no more disconnect from the watch.
Not sure what services were being stopped to extend battery life

Still the same for me, I search and search, but don't find anything
Sometime a sync works for 1day, next day it's disconnected,
If I try to sync it again it takes ~1 to pair, and I dont see my apps, just default apps.
After press multiple times in WearApp to sync all apps I see it again.
Next hour or next day it's again disconnected.
I see the PlayService version on my watch is a older like my version on my phone (Note4)
Any ideas ?
