I tried every app i could find (eg. kingorrot, framaroot etc) and tried rooting through ADB (in which it cant detect my device).
Is there any other way as i need to recover my data and recovery tools need root access.

maybe this will work?
im in the same boat here but as far as i can tell you need to unlock the bootloader with this
(search this unlock bootloader lg "m257" its the first thing that comes up in google im a new user and cant post links yet)
then use that to get twrp to get supersu on useing the zip
the problem is that the guide is very vague on how to get the commands to word, it basicly says get this and use it with no real explanation on how it is done.
anyone here has an LG M257, please dump the system.img
https://www.mylgphones.com/cricket-lg-harmony-m257-firmware-how-to-dump-software-with-lg-up.html
I have the dump of system.img, but I do not know how to upload it here. It seems too large.

Hi,
I bought a phone on Amazon and it came with modified OS, which as me stuck in reboot loops and unable to update the phone. I've already changed the CID and now I have to restore it to S-ON. Haven't found an easy to do guide on how to accomplish this.

hello everybody,
I hope you can help me ! I got yesterday a new moto g5 and am trying to install a custom ROM on it. as a preparation I unlocked succesfully the boot loader using adb and fastboot, from a linux machine. i did encounter a problem that fastboot was functioning only using sudo. but then all went well.
then i downloaded the twrp image and installed it like this : sudo ./fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
I rebooted the phone from the command line and entered the recovery mode. from there i did a backup ( I have nothing important on the phone) and restarted the phone.
since the reboot the operating system is not starting anymore. it stays on this screen that says : your phone is unlocked and not trusted. will boot in 5 secs. and does nothing.
you can not turn it off using the power button.
the only thing you can do is going in the recovery mode then it loads the twrp interface.
if i use adb devices now it shows :
ZY322BV4HP no permissions (user in plugdev group; are your udev rules wrong?); see bla bla...
before installing twrp.img it showed : ZY322BV4HP device
i did not root the phone but set twrp to write to the boot partition.
I tried to restore the backup I had made. the action was successful but it did not solve my problem.
thank you for reading and may be helping !

I'm happy to see that it worked out for you!
Just keep in mind that, if you have a device that has a dedicated area on the forum, your best bet in locating/posting a resolution somewhere within it.
Also, most (unfortunately not all) of the big developments like TWRP, LineageOS, etc... Will have a dedicated thread that's specifically for instructions, support and member guidance.
Good Luck!

directly from this link : https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5/development/official-twrp-3-1-1-0-moto-g5-t3699737
I followed the special instruction for stock rom users to flash dm-verity zip and it worked like a charm...
