Hello how do I make phone calls on mi pad 4? I have the LTE version, and SMS works just fine. I tried to download dialer app by Google, but it says not compatible. A custom dialer app just crashes.
Is this as intended? Or blocked by chip? Or blocked by rom??
I am using my main and only Sim card from my phone, as it is on service....
I want to add that I saw a quora thread asking the same thing with contradicting answers..

Try to configure VoLTE if Your mobile provider have it.

Umm I have 9.6.8.0 global already. Why would a downgrade work?
There is nothing on that page mentioning phone functionality...

There is no global rom at the moment, so it's fake rom flashed by unofficial reseller.
Mi Pad 4 has anti-rollback feature, so don't try to downgrade.
If you downgrade, your device will be bricked.

Are you sure, flash_all scripts from Mi Pad 4 fastboot image packages doesn't have "fastboot getvar anti" tests like whyred?
I bought mine off Ali Express. Do you think it is fake hardware?

No dude the calling feature is not present in the tablet.
There is a reason there is no phone app in the system, and the only way you can call is by VoLTE and you have to check with your carrier if thats available for you.
in MIUI thread people have VoLTE calling enabled in china using their carriers, so you have to check if your carrier supports it,
To enable VoLTE go to storage and tap on total storage until you see a prompt and then go to the settings and enable VoLTE and then use whatever app you use to make the VoLTE call and try it
for rightnow firmware only can let china carrier to Activated volte function.For other country cann't!! And the last firmware,Xiaomi remove the volte function.All people please do not upgrade your Mi pad 4 LTE firmware for future help by XDA PROs

In China,Mi Pad 4 LTE can make the volte call,
Please help to me open volte function in other country/region
When i put the china telcom sim card in Mi Pad 4 Lte,the Pad can Activated the volte function.
But when i put my own country sim card,the volte function is blocked.

enable to volte,must downgrade firmware to 9.6.4/9.6.6 version,then enable the volte fuction at "Setting"
If you can't enable volte,try to type *#*#86583#*#* at dailer apk,then it could enable the volte function
How is the calls restriction applied ? is it hardware or software, can we bypass it since the device can already send sms with no issue it leads me to think it is restricted in the rom or the kernel which can be bypassed hopefully

Before commenting do some research to avoid easy faulty answers.
Other than OnePlus no one can release software update for VoLTE. After update it can be implemented on other roms.
You can not just dial code and use the features if they are not implemented by the company.

Jiojoin will not work with the phones which the app thinks is/or are Volte supported phone. So to answer ur question u can use data only but no calls on any ROM. Use stock if u want to use both data and calls.

ha ha... You are right. This is India specific question and hence confusing as details are missing,
Reliance Jio is upcoming 4G LTE Network which will provide HD calls over VoLTE. Redmi Note 3 is VoLTE enabled with same working only with MIUI and hence so many questions especially from those using Custom ROMs.

My problem is different and exactly opposite
I can only use jio join app to make call or receive call while using miui dialer i get call ended as soon as i make a call, i can only make or receive calls while using jio join app and that too with data on as soon as i turn off the data or close the app the people calling my jio number is shown switched off, i have inserted the jio sim in sim 2 slot of my rn3 sd and i am using latest stable global rom of miui, any solutions guys??
Moreover, i have enabled volte, does it only works in sim 1 or is their something else causing the problem? i couldn't figure it out so please help,

It's a new carrier which is yet to launch its services commercially. Until then its offering unlimited data, HD voice and live TV for free. But the thing is it is only LTE. No fallback to 3g or 2g during calls. That's why people ask about VoLTE all the time. They have an app called Jio Join to make enable non VoLTE phones to make phone calls, but for some its not working

Then file the complaints to Jio to fix update & fix their app to support Marshmallow API (CM-13.0 is Marshmallow, while MIUI is Lollipop, Kenzo), it's quadrillion times better than spamming the forum with Jio (#1411 mentions of Jio)...

Yes free data, HD voice, HD video calls, Jio apps, everything works.
To get hold of a sim, you can follow the YouTube videos. Make Sure to download the older version of myjio

Yes it won't work and reasons are already shared. If you want VoLTE move to stock MIUI8 and it will work.

I have buy me a Redmi Note 5 in the "Global Version" with 3/32GB.
The Phone is great an not to small.
Only the options "VoLTE" and "Wifi Calling" i miss.
Bevor i had a Huawei P10 and with this phone the VoLTE and Wifi Calling was activated and the function are great (german Vodafone).
Now i search it on the Redmi Note 5 Phone. But i didn´t find it.
When i go in to the Mode *#*#4636#*#* i can see in the Phoneinformation 1 (i have only 1 Sim Card installed and 1 Micro SD Card) that the "VoLTE" and "WLAN-ANRUFE" (Wifi Calling) is Off.
I can´t activated with the Button.
Can you help me? It´s very important for me.

I have found a solution.
When you have the same problem with VoLTE , go in the APN Settings from Vodafone and go to edit the "APN-Typ".
it look original: default,supl
after edit: default,supl,ims
after, go in the dial app and call the number:
*#*#86583#*#*
after input this dial, a small pop up is screening "volte carrier check was disabled".
After restart you have (i have) the VoLTE Screening at the top and i can now activated and disactivated in the menu.
The same in the dial code *#*#4636#*#*.
Now there is VoLTE ON

wow that does indeed seem to activate the VoWifi setting on my Note 5! - it removes the carrier check, so it seems to force the setting to be available in the menu, like the VoLTE carrier check disable.

if you want to check if the vowifi work you must set airplane mode and after that only wifi on, and then try to make a call over wifi...

just got my rog phone from amazon.com to India. i installed my jio 4g sim and i got the signal full bars and it also shows jio 4g and im able to access data BUT the serious issue is im unable to make calls or receive calls
when i make a call it just give me a BEEP sound and my callers are getting unable to reach right now message
is it my phone or international phones are not working in india?

i have already done that and restarted my mobile. i can receive sms but cant send them, i cant receive calls and i cant make any outgoing calls. But i can access 4G mobile data. so weird
my guess is US versions are blocked VOLTE by default. did you by from flipkart? can you post your build version?

ok, the only solution for this is to move from jio to airtel for international asus rog mobiles. indian version work fine with jio

I live in Australia. My telephone provider, Boost Mobile, provides VoLTE and VoWIFI capabilities. On my previous Umidigi F1 smartphone I was able to use both, but when I moved the same SIM card on my Mi 10 Pro I couldn't find any settings, although I know the Mi 10 Pro has VoLTE and VoWIFI capabilities.
I cannot see anything where to activate them, no settings. I tried these codes as recommended in some posts on here, but they seem to do nothing. As soon as I press the star and the end of each code, they simply disappear and no message is visualised on the screen, neither any option appears in the SIM settings.
To unlock VoLTE: open your phone app and dial *#*#86583#*#*
To unlock VoWifi: open your phone app and dial *#*#869434#*#*
I have a MIUI global 11.0.4.0 (QJAMIXM)

As soon as I press the star and the end of each code, they simply disappear and no message is visualised on the screen, neither any option appears in the SIM settings.
To unlock VoLTE: open your phone app and dial *#*#86583#*#*
To unlock VoWifi: open your phone app and dial *#*#869434#*#*
I have a MIUI global 11.0.4.0 (QJAMIXM)

Thank you. Unfortunately nothing happened after I wrote that code. I didn't get any message and I couldn't see the options like in the screenshot you sent.

have try power off the phone then power it on again an wen it starts enter the code
I did as you suggested but, unfortunately, nothing happened even this time. I wonder if these options have been disabled on purpose

This phone is new, I have it from a couple of weeks.
I also tried to clear storage and cache for the phone app, but still nothing happens
@fluffy, I installed an app called "MIUI Quick Settings" and I managed to see the settings like in the screenshot you sent me. The parts about VoLTE and VoWifi are greyed out and I cannot change them.

an it does the same as urs do
but try go into settings network
simcard settings an see if they aint there
they are in my phone even that i cant actived them in that code

there is only coming a short notise that it is on

Maybe try with another dialer? I know Google dialer didn't worked for me when I flashed global rom

Has anyone been able to successfully activate vowifi with the global Mi 10 Pro?
I can disable WiFi carrier check using *#*#869434#*#* which gave me the " Make calls using WiFi" option in mobile network settings. Although the option is checked, it doesn't seem to be working using a Telstra SIM (which has WiFi calling perfectly with an iPhone 8) .
Dialling *#*#4636#*#* reveals that WiFi calling provisioned is still disabled and greyed out.
Any ideas?

Me too, i can't see volte icon too, never seen, instead it works with my operator on every other phone i have
i know this is an old thread but wanted to say thanks, i have a mi 10 ultra and im on Telstra (Australian Network) using the 2 codes in the OP both came up with a quick popup after entering saying "disabled volte/wifi carrier check" and now in the sim options both the volte and vowifi options show up and when enabling them the vowifi icon shows in the top so thanks!! (i chose to prefer wifi network over mobile networks in the vowifi options) EMUI version in screenshot.
When I use the codes in the OP I also get voWIFI and voLTE in the status bar and they work, but I lose caller ID so I cant see whos calling me.
I m in the UK on Virgin, I moved from Vodafone a few days ago to Virgin, on Vodafone both voWIFI and voLTE worked, but I didnt get the voWIFI and voLTE signs in the status bar, I also got caller ID.
The weird thing is that Virgin is a MVNO that now uses Vodafones network.
WIFI calling, video calling and voLTE are still greyed out in MUI settings even though I can now get them, all very strange.
I think you are all misunderstanding the technology.
There is a few dependencies. Signal availability, Signal strength and MOST importantly the other caller MUST be the same and on the the same network provider.
Now, I can't speak for other countries mainly because I don't live there, but here in the UK VOLTE will be either "4G" or "4G+" where the signal bars are displayed. By now the majority of the UK will be "4G" which technically IS VOLTE because the technology is a data carrier with a voice protocol strapped to it. This is why the provider must be the same for BOTH callers or it will fallback to 3g for the call for BOTH callers.
4G+ is LTE-A (LTE ADVANCED) is a dual band version of 4G which will attempt to use one band for keeping data alive and the other band for VOLTE. Again, this is dependent on the same factors as 4G with the same fallback rules.
5G is technically 'the standardisation' of all providers so the signal doesn't fall back.
I am in the UK. Stock Mi10 5G on a Giffgaff (O2) simcard. I can get all of them.
I think you have missed the point I was making - the same phone on Vodafone voLTE and voWIFI works, but I change to an MVNO that uses the same Vodafone network, I use the same phone, but suddenly neither works. There is clearly something on the carrier side that they do to enable or disable registering IMS, my previous Le Max 2 was voLTE and voWIFI compatible yet I could never get it to work on Vodafone even after having a massive dispute with them about it, I concluded then that there is somehting their end stopping it from working, my expereience above seems to confirm this. Quite why they designed voLTE and WIFI like this I dont know - they should just work just as 2G and 3G calling do.
I have never heard that the caller must also be on the same network, that does not sound right to me and indeed when was on Vodafone I could call non Vodafone users and still get voLTE.
Because Vodafone aren't obliged to share their full network with other providers like vermin media. Although you think they are one in the same they aren't. Vermin rent from Vodafone so it is a sub system. Why would Vodafone give anyone else Admin over their network?
Regardless of whether you think you have full 4g at both ends if the other caller doesn't for whatever reason you get the best that they can do and nothing more. There is no upscaling. That's why you need to both be on the same network/provider.
