Is there an S9+ SM-G965U1 root tool yet? - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

The title says it all, really. But I'll elaborate anyway so this won't get marked as spam.
I have an S9+, model number SM-G965U1. I know it's possible to root the S9+, but I haven't found any way to root this particular model.
Does anyone know something I don't? A way to root it, a person who's working on it, anything?

It might get marked as spam because if the same question gets asked in different threads a lot. I recall at least 3 so far all asking the same exact thing. A thread asking if a root method exists was made 2 days ago. You can view the thread here
USA Snapdragon G965U (and U1) there is nothing as of yet. If there was (or any sign/hint/indication) then there would be a lot of discussion on it. I am not sure what you think you know or what your source is but there is a difference between "possible" and "a way to make it happen". Sure it is possible to root the phone, but as of yet there doesn't seem to be any indication a way to make it happen exists. I am sure people are working on it but I doubt they will be openly discussing the method or much on the matter.. No reason to tip one's hand on what they are doing (or what exploit they are gonna use) just to have Samsung end up patching it.
International G965 I am not sure if a root method exists or not.
Exynos S9+ version seems to have a root method already.. The forum here should tell you what you need to know.

i have the g695u and i was wondering the same thing. ive always wanted to root my phone because i like to play with things lol. more so because i like checking out all kinds of apps and programs and i like to make things my own so to speak. im new to this and ive been considering it for years since i had my s2 but i dont want to mess up and not be able to use my phone. ive seen a few apps that id love to check out but cant because they require root. so i guess my question is how do i do that and i how do i free my phone from being carrier locked. i have a note 8 id like to use and cant but thats a long story on its own.

NamelessPick51
To unlock your phone from being carrier locked you can either go through the carrier and request it to be unlocked. Otherwise there are 3rd party services that can do this, but they are pay for services. I myself used UnlockPolice to sim unlock my phone and that cost $180.00. Other services exist that range in price, but be aware of those cheaper services as there are some that are scams. One in particular I tried cost 13.00 and had you install an APK to enter a code... Suffice it to say 100% rip off since the phone does not use an unlock code (UICC unlock does not use an apk or code) nor does it use an APK to unlock the phone (I have a Sprint S9+ and the only ones I know that use an APK for unlocking is T-Mobile).
If the carrier can't do it for you or the pay for 3rd party services are not an option then there is nothing you can do. As of right now no method exists for us to sim unlock the phone any other way. If you have further questions I would suggest reading different threads here on the subject. You can find suggestions on 3rd party services to try as well.
For the rooting I answered that already with what information that exists. Let me rephrase it a little to include a little more info.
If you have the exynos version then there is a root method. Check this thread out to find out.
Otherwise if you have an USA snapdragon G965 (U or U1) then there is no root method as of yet. It is inevitable that one will be created and it will be made available for us, but currently no time table or other info exists that says when or where that will happen. Either way it will take time before something happens, so be patient and keep checking for any news announcements or other threads talking about a root method for US Snapdragon G965 that actually exists.

Hello everyone and one year after the last answer, someone knows something about how to root the SM-G965U1, please if anyone knows something, share, thanks

If I understand correctly, and there's little chance of that, Canadian s3's are not yet included in the necessary toolkits.
as seen here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746682&page=1
Someone posted that they successfully rooted their SGH-T999V in this thread here.
I haven't tried it personally because I didn't get the phone yet, but the user claiming that it works doesn't really have any reason to lie
I'll wait a bit, see how things pan out, and until there is a well accepted Canadian version. (not that this one isn't).
I would rather wait, and be sure, than risk bricking my s3.:cyclops:

Click on your phone info.
Write down the last 3 digits if your build version.
If it is MJ7 enjoy your Samsung iphone or take the risk of Chinese infiltration with vroot.
If its anything else, type go to GOOGLE.COM and type in those 3 letters followed by the word "Root".
Good luck!
Doesn't get much simpler than that.. :sly:

Ok So my build version is MJ7.
Is it unlockable through the ROM/software here on XDA or any other reliable ROM/sofware?
Please can you guys list the instructions or a link that tells me A to Z what to do. Thanks!

You can't root using a reliable technique, and even if you root you can't install custom ROMs at the moment. Safestrap may eventually become possible.

Just to make sure, this S4 MJ7 Verizon cant be unlocked to run on Tmobile using a reliable method?
Sorry for acting like a total newb. And many thanks.
I have MJ7 also and I've looked at root alternatives and it's risky at best. Let me know if you find a less risky way.

The I545 is not simlocked, which means that you can run any carrier's SIM. There are SEVERAL threads here that explain what you need to do to run an I545 on T-Mobile. Unfortunately, the search function is broken yet again, but there is NO excuse for starting another thread on a topic that has been covered several times before.
I know, you can't tell, but this is a very frequently asked and answered question.

Nope i tried tmobile sim doesnt work
I love this website, but I still haven't used it once because I search through threads always find answers like this. Its truly amazing how the website owners have sections for different versions and different hardware. But constant trolling by veteran users is common.
This(android) is an open source project but that doesnt mean every one here knows what people are talking about. I get discouraged posts like the one above^^. I have been using android since it came out on G1 and still havent rooted any of my devices YET. This time I actually thought I would but you know what **** this.
Anyways last attempt? Can my device be RELIABLY(trusted) carrier unlocked so I can use it on Tmobile. Thanks.
Also is there a thread where I can lookup jargon/lingo/acronyms specific to this site/genre? Link please.

Perhaps you could post on one of the T-Mobile threads here and explain what "doesn't work" means, as they may be able to help you.
Non-Verizon SIMs work for me, but I'm not using a SIM from some other US carrier.

That's the guide to use your phone on T-Mobile. It's on the first page of the general section lol.
By the way, the forums are seperated by device and carrier because that's how the software works, it's different per device and the carrier that device uses. This is a site for developers.

Sorry if you thinking this is "trolling by a veteran user".
First, you need to understand: the i545 is not SIM locked. Any SIM will work.
However, there's some question as to whether or not that SIM will allow other US carriers to work. Mine works with a SIM that gives me AT&T data. (It's from a European carrier.)
Here's how you can answer your question. First, look at the top of this window.
There's a box on the top reading "Search this forum".
I entered "tmobile" there, then got the following threads:

Sorry. Hit send too early..
Basic steps are to get a sim.
Then go and see if it picked ip the APN settings. If not you should be able to create a new APN and put in the values manually. Search on xda for the values
Finally. Theres a thread in xda that explains how to download a phone info app. Which will allow you to set the phone radio to LTE/GSM.
last thing you want to check is that you can do wifi, sms, mms, voice mail, etc.

A lot of people do make things for themselves, I run my own crappy builds all the time as I'm learning. Of course the more experienced developers release stable work for the public. Regardless, the purpose of the site isn't to release software for the "everyday android user".
It's about the journey not the end result.
I really can't explain the purpose of this site any better than this post by Kyphur:
"I think what a lot of people forget is that this is not a "make my phone neat & kewl" place.
As implied by the name this is technically a Developers forum/community.
Now what does that mean? Well first off it means that there is an expectation that if you are here then you want to customize your device but rather than just installing something that someone packaged you want to understand how it works and maybe even enhance it yourself.
When I first came here with a Blue Angel it was a different environment. PDA Phones were not embraced by the general public because of the expense and complexity (I paid over $400 for my BA). A $400 phone 4 years ago was expensive, today the Tilt is $300 after rebates but with inflation & the rise in the cost of other devices and the fact that there are other sources out there giving them away for $150 our neat bit of kit has become popular with mainstream users.
Now we have a flood of new users who are asking not "How can I do this myself" but more like "Give me the quick fix" without caring to understand the process. See if you read the threads then you get to experience the learning process, you see how the issues were investigated and confirmed. Then you get to watch the different attempts at resolution and learn why some failed while others worked. That is called Development.
The NooB backlash is coming from users who have walked in the development shoes and is directed mainly at those who don't care for the journey but just want the end result or destination.
As a Development Forum we are just as much (if not more) about the journey. I've read so many comments like "I don't have time to read all of the threads" or "I don't care how it works, just that it does". These very statements are contrary to the heart & soul of XDA-Devs and that is why the backlash is so strong.
Let me be very clear on this: IF YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT UNDERSTANDING THE JOURNEY THEN YOU PROBABLY SHOULDN'T BE HERE IN THE FIRST PLACE.
XDA-Devs is about developers & hackers helping each other and working together to get the most out of our devices by understanding them better than most.
XDA-Devs is not about helping everyone who wants a "Kewl bit of kit" make their phone better than the guy next to him.
Now do we go kicking users off who never contribute anything, NO. We tolerate it to an extent. Where the toleration ends is when these users start diluting the usefulness of the forum by repeating the same questions over and over again.
You ask us to understand your position. Well if you want to benefit from our experience and time then I think it is only fair that you understand our position."

I ddnt mean to be like rude or anything guys. So sorry for acting like that.
Now honestly i Google about android rooting/self installin the new version and XDA comes up all the time, so I've known about website long time ago and I see that there are like 100s of posts a minute mostly by total newbs. I'm newbie to android and XDA but like actually do wanna learn this stuff. Thats why I even asked if there are threads/links to where I can brush up beginner stuff so I then if I stll have any issues I can ask the question in a technical manner or even understand different threads that have already answered the question(s) that I have.
As for developer part you guys are programmers and hackers and its your hobby and its pretty cool you do this stuff on daily basis, but for me that is too far ahead.
Now I have another device unlocked NExus S i got from tmobile back in 2011, I wanna update it to latest OS KitKat. I will now look up XDA all over myself, let you know how it goes. Hopefully it will work out.
Thanks again.
EDIT: P.S. the first day i posted search wasnt working. Or maybe I ddnt search the right sections. I'll do XDA search through Google now

I didn't think you were being a rude, but I just thought I would share with you post that explains the purpose of XDA very well. It might seem harsh because it's out of context & was originally directed at some a$$hole.
We were all newbs here, I'm no programmer I just like learning code because I like learning how all of this stuff works. I'm glad you want to start learning to. All I did in the beginning was google search "rooting" and a bunch of write-ups & video's came up that taught me a lot.
I think this all falls under off topic this is really not the place for senior members to try b!+ch slap junior members, staying on topic is how this site operates

@mods can we please for the love of god sticky a thread or make some kind of anything so that casual people coming in here, or people who are just too lazy to use the search function can have an answer and we don't have to take the time to write a post telling them that no, there is no root, but there is a search button ). Also I totally petition that we auto-delete threads that have this kind of title but aren't the rooting method we have been waiting two years for. If a mod can tell me that they will sticky my post, I will write a very informative post with all the links and all the knowledge and data that is available, along with all models that are rootable. I don't want to waste my time honestly :/

Sure, I could have put "Is there a ..." in the title. I just figured a logical person would notice the obvious nature of the question mark and realize that this post wasn't our coveted solution. If you actually read my question, you can see that I know very well where the search bar is, and that it was utilized. It's unfortunate that you see helping someone as a waste of your time. If you don't want to help, then don't waste the OP's time with your complaining.
So when new models come out, the best thing is to wait till we find out which can be rooted. Makes sense... I jumped on Galaxy 9S+ when it first cam out and have the un-rootable one... should have waited...

[ROOT] Any Updates on Root?

I currently own the US model of this device. I've done some digging in the forums but I never really come up with very much. If anyone could help I'd be willing to try just about anything to get this phone rooted as long as there's a recovery option. I've read in other threads that the European model can be rooted but the US version has no such luck. If anyone has anymore information please post a reply I would love to get a discussion started. Thanks in advance

Unfortunately, yes your appear to be right. I haven't been able to find anything on this device as far as the U.S. version goes anyway. Apparently, the European version has already been rooted with Magisk and an unlocked bootloader. Although no one has said much of anything about this one. I hope there some development soon!!
A shame these dont yet have bootloader unlock etc.. Its a great phone with Awesome specs on it.
I picked up a Like NEw one for 200.00 (u.s. sprint) version. I use it on t-mobile.

Well it has according to the LG website. Didn't try it out yet.
https://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev?categoryId=CTULRS0703
• LG V50S: LMG850EMW/LMG850EMWX for the European market
This is the LG G8X (check your device info).
We'll probably have to wait for Firehose to be released for LG Snapdragon 855 to have any hopes for unlocking on Non EU variants
No bootloader unlock available? Was checking developer settings and was able to turn on OEM unlock. Would really like to see some AOSP ROMs available for this phone.
I am very glad to be getting replies here. However, US models are still unrootable as far as I can tell its not listed for the US region but is listed for EU. So far no new updates. Please keep the conversation alive though!! Need a developer to start cracking down on this device please!
If anyone knows any developer's willing to work on this device I will quite literally give them payment to develop a working root method for this device. No joke. I'm not very sure how much power developers have over this device. But I would really love to find out.

You could probably start a Bounty thread like they did with the V50 and G8.

How would I go about doing this? Not all that familiar with Xda honestly. I rooted my old phone thanks to this site but I wouldn't know how to contact any developers on this subject.
A shame that this high end phone does not yet have root/rom. (in u.s.) You can pick these up fairly inexpensively (on ebay..as I did)
Hope LG is able to get bootloader unlocked one day or I may have to go back to Xiaomi / Oneplus
I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Well considering this same device is rooted it would likely mean that eventually we will have something. It might take awhile however. The EU version is definitely rooted and even compatible with Magisk having an unlocked bootloader is fantastic. Especially in this time. However since our country is a bit more controlling when it comes to phone data we may not see one until this device is obsolete. Meaning that LG will have made their money on it and therefore feel safe releasing a bootloader unlock officially..

Which phone is best

So I had sprint for years. Had the note 4 until 3 years ago when I switched to the note 9 /U and couldn't root it... very terrible.
So jot tmibile bought sprint and I don't like tmobile. So I'm switching to AT&T which i also don't like but I can add GSM phones so thats my path.
My question is which of the latest Samsung note phones is best for rooting meaning which model number should I buy from Amazon or ebay that can be both rooted and unlocked bootloader?
I was going to do the fold 3 but apparently samsung kills the camera. . Shame...
Rooting isn't necessary or even desirable.
The 10+ running on Pie* is a strong running, very stable phone once optimized.
Next best choice is the 20U.
The Fold3 and S21U are duds with no SD card slot, no spen and/or numerous hardware issues**.
If the 10+ or 20U aren't to your liking wait until next year for the new Note release.
*last good Android OS and with no scope storage, fully supports trusted overlay apks.
**Fold3 hardware issues... wait they're coming
Ok. So I definitely want root and customs roms which means unlocked bootloader.. thank you for the vote of confidence with stock phones but my question was clear and opinion is not an answer to the question. Again, which phone model is best, meaning specific model number, for rooting and roming. I know there are 2 chinees versions of the note 10 and note 20 as well as a few others from other countries meaning non "U" versions, Which is best? Some people just fail to read and answer properly. I wonder wtf is wrong with people... i didnt ask for opinion on non-rootable or otherwise non unlock able bootloaders and clearly was asking for non "U" version yet some daft schmuck says get the U version... duhhh...

Meh, it's a lick on you... do it your way.
Do your homework and go to the appropriate forum for each phone and see what users are able to do. Brain picking is just laziness...
Edit: I could help you but I choose not to... I got a better idea

Well I wouldn't call it laziness... I might instead, call it a request from experience. Some may say well... this model has an unlock able bootloader but only some do while others don't. And maybe this model does have unlocked bootloader but doesn't have many options, while this other model is unlockable usually at&t doesn't accept it. And so on. How did you achieve senior member? Must be by trolling reasonable members... thanks but please shut up on my thread. Go elsewhere and post. Thanks again.
You can unlock the bootloader now on any 9 series us device upto fold 2 s21 provided they on the right bootloader version. Its a paid service but is possible. Root is going strong
