Poco tough questions - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

Hello
I've got some strange and somewhat tough questions or maybe not?:
1. I've seen a lot of POCO F1 photos and I'm not exactly sure if it has a good body around it so that I could not touch the screen by accident with that hand which is holding the phone while the other is writing SMS. If You need a comparison Samsung S5 and A8 2018 was good at it and they are what I would like the POCO F1 to be.
2. Is the awsesome CPU the only good pieace of hardware in that phone. How about RAM and storage speed?
3. Will POCO br treated like Mi phones or like Redmi phones?
4. How many Android upgrades wil it receive?
5. Is it Project Treble fully compatible?
Thanks and please reply what You think

The SD845 is not a CPU, it's an SoC comprised of many components. This includes Kyro CPU clusters, DSP, Adreno, x20 modem, LPDDR4x support (RAM), and UFS 2.1 support.
Third & fourth question is impossible to answer, the company hasn't made a formal promise. This phone will cannibalize their sales, so who knows.

Sorry, it's a SoC, too much IT around me xDD.
Can You tell me what do you mean by saying that this phone will cannibalize their sales? (My English is bad)
How about question no 1?

Why would u buy one of their 20+ phones they have available now, when this one is so cheap?

It is complicated

Was in reference to the post above mine

To answer the unanswered questions
Poco f1 will be treated like a poco phone.
They promised Android pie.
Any phone that comes with android 8 pre installed should be 100% treble compatible.
Peace

1. I don't think that will be a issue during normal use... It will be issue in any phone of You use it without a proper grip or while typing and holding with the same hand...
2. In simple words RAM and storage should also be really Good... Overall performance of this device will be really Amazing so need not worry about RAM or storage speed bottleneck...
3. It will be totally different from Mi and Redmi... Poco will be independent in software and development while sales and services will be carried out by Xiaomi...
4. That's a question that needs time to be answered but since it is independent from Mi and Redmi, it should atleast get 2 (Android P and Q) android version updates (in My view) but it will surely get Android Pie as it was announced... MIUI update should be coming for it for atleast 2 years (usually 3)...
5. Since it is released with Android Oreo, it is Treble Enabled...

1. Poco F1 is amongst the many other phones which boasts of so called "bezel less" body. So clearly your question may be asked for any such phone.
2. Apart from CPU, POCO has a very good GPU, LPDDR4x RAM and UFS 2.1 Storage. So no it's just not the CPU alone.
3. POCO will be treated like a separate phone series and we might see POCO F"2" in coming days. (Realme 1 followed by Realme 2).
4. Pie has been promised by Xiaomi and the phone might just see Android Q as well. Cannot really comment on that.
5. Any phone launching with Android Oreo or later out of the box has to be Project Treble compliant so YES.

2. Apart from the latest generation SOC, the ram and storage is also top notch. It has lpddr4x ram and UFS 2.1 storage so pretty fast and latest gen again.
3 & 4. With kernel source already released, camera2api enabled by default and bootloader unlocked who cares about company software support. We have excellent devs who will make this device fly for a long long time, incidentally the company has promised android P update in the 4th quarter and android security updates regularly.

WOW Thanks of thinking of me so high but with all do respect I have to disagree. Doing reaserch is not enought to become an expert. In my opinion You have to do some practise: configre many different phones, flash custom roms, service phones, try different apps and be an accual DEV.

Let it go... I just got My hands on the device yesterday when it arrived... Its really Good... Software seems to be not yet optimised properly so it should perform far Better in a few weeks... The rounded edges are a little to big, certain UI and app elements seem to hide behind it...

Agree to that, the rounded edges at the bottom area were certainly unnecessary, so far this is the first annoyance with the phone

Is it worth buying Aqua m4 nowadays?

Just have been proposed in carrier offer several modest budget phones, among them I like Aqua m4 and Huawei p9 lite.
When compared p9 lite seems to prevail in almost any aspect, except one: water resistance
Indeed, imagine, what gain from better hardware if when it accidentally drops into e.g. sink then it becomes just a brick?
However when in forums here I keep reading about Aqua's cumbersome issues, Sony's user-unfriendly and unkind bullying like attitude (in stock MarshMallow blocked SD internal storage expansion despite built in storage is remarkably small),
in practice water resistance appears very dubious,
problems with famous overheating which often bricks phones,
WiFi battery drain etc,
then the above points makes me think twice.
In fact carrier consultant defended Aqua's quality saying the main hardware issues, like overheating, were present just in initial distribution line,
after numerous consumers feedback the manufacturer improved Aqua's deficiencies and now the model is mature enough and rock solid stable.
Would you share this view our rather you would prefer p9 lite?
Warmly thanks for any of your advice, in advance!
i will prefer P9 Lite, new device and maybe new OS (Nougat)

It's worth considering that most of the issues are gone. I rarely get phone to heat (Never actually heated on marshmallow) nor battery drain on wifi since I did clean update not like some users who say otherwise. It's awesome phone just lack of storage kills it try to buy 16gb one

What if the carrier proposition doesn't include such Aqua version?
And also greater SD: does it accept,
and what about Android MM's internal memory expanding into SD, does it work at last in Aqua?
Why in Android MarshMallow specifically it doesn't heat up at all?
I hate the M4 Aqua because there are no custom ROMs for it.
But there are no ROMs for the P9 Lite (yet) either.
If installing a custom ROM is your thing, then i would choose neither.
If on the other hand you do not care about custom ROMs then i would choose the Huawei for it's better specs (for me screen resolution is most important difference) , unless you live in a place where you get wet often and you need the water proofing the M4 Aqua offers.

Yes the new device, much better hardware, dual SIM, however NOT WATERPROOF
Is Nougat the new system version so important?
In fact the newest software usually is very buggy, it needs time to mature through painstaking consumer feedback

The newest software is not always very buggy. Sometimes it is. Sometimes it is not. The Marshmallow for my M4 Aqua runs without any problem for me.

Android stock system modding should suffice, making ROOT, trimming the bloatware, installing some system controlling suites (e.g. 3C tools, LBE) not to mention Xposed with some very innovative modules
And are there custom kernels for Aqua here?
Why is screen resolution so important for you?
It seems the "HD-ready" 720x1280px on 5inch display is
hardly discernable from FullHD 1080x1920px,
can you see the difference, honestly, can you indeed
perceive it by your own eyes and isn't it just a placebo?
Maybe someone needs it for reading through magnifying glass
And probably higher screen resolution drains battery faster.

Will the Mate 10 have a True and active Dev and Mod support from developers?

I'm really interested in getting this phone, I have skipped the Note 8 until I see what this phone brings, and from what I saw at the presentation I looks like an AWESOME phone, but when I look at past Huawei flagships (mate 9, P9, etc) almost non-existing major updates, custom roms support and mods I start thinking if paying a premium price for a phone like this its really worth for a person like me who likes to play around with rooting, modding and installing custom roms in my devices or should I play safe and get a Samsung or Pixel device.
No. Do not buy Huawei if modding is important.
Non existent with previous mate 9 and barely with mate 8.
Across the board, it's not getting easier

To be honest you are better off not getting any flagship if you like modding. The pixel is a pain to dev for to the point that many devs are not getting the new pixel or even supporting it. Samsung well we all know that dev support for that is a joke.

If modding is your thing then I would look at something like one plus. Things to avoid are devices with dual partition setup. The pixel showed how much devs dont want to deal with that.
Things to look out for are things like kernel source being up to date which I hate to say knocks 90% of the China based OEM out of it. Maybe the Euro version of samsung devices might be OK but even they get little to no real devs support. I would look around the site. See what devices have real support. No I am not talking about tons of los based roms. That is not development. I mean real development with system mods and hardware tweaks.

This I agree with but many of the OEM are opting out of sdcards ever since google removed all the code fore native sdcard support from android years ago. But to be hones 64gb is more then enough for a mobile device. Mix that with some common sense (backing up stuff. No I dont mean cloud backup lol)

Why not? You can get systemless root (Exynos) or TWRP installed classic root (Snapdragon) for Note8.
Sure Knox and/or SafetyNet gets tripped, but that's the price to pay for rooting.
But you can root current flagship phones and there's plenty of modding community for Note8.

Samsung based roms are not development. Samsung devices have sucked for development for years. This is why main stream developers don't get that device.
Ok, thanks for the info. I haven't followed the scene. Just installed a good LO fork on my Note3 and it is working wonders (sans NFC and GPS/camera performance is generic).

Problem with OP (I switched from OP5 to IP7+ just recently because I kept hearing rumors that OP5T/OP6 might come out and I was afraid the value might drop to a point where re-sale value is no longer profitable..IP7+ is awesome in many ways, but my initial goal was getting LG V30 but now it seems Mate 10 is much wiser choice because of its awesome screen to body ratio + 16:9 aspect ratio which currently IMO is way better than 18:9/18:9.5 considering full app support, including youtube and so on) is that it does not have its own identity - its basically an iphone clone design wise and with it you look like a wannabe iphone user . Its awesome in performance but that identity thing sucks + they recent actions where they discontinue a model even before 6 month span is just plain ridiculous (OP3 to OP3T and then OP3T to OP5 all done within 1 year)..

Tell that to the fact that they offer how to build aosp for their devices, have worked with developers on it as well as pretty much made the theme engine that susbstratum works off of.
Will there be loses. Sure but that is the difference between aosp and using code made for the device. You don't always get all the features of the device with aosp. But that is not the point of using aosp. It's to learn.

Project Treble and ZTE.

So, according to these:
https://www.xda-developers.com/project-treble-android-o-exist-flagship/
https://www.xda-developers.com/stock-android-oreo-huawei-mate-9-project-treble/
any existing device can get project Treble support.
It doesn't have to ship with Oreo.
(although all devices that do ship with it will have to support Treble as a requirement)
Google's own Pixel and Pixel XL, as well as Huawei's Mate 9 were definitely not shipped with Oreo on board, but were made Treble compatible, which is great news.
Could we show ZTE this somehow and hopefully get them to add project Treble support?
This can help all of us tremendously (the devs mainly and us as users) and offload ZTE a lot of time with updates because they can be way faster with Treble, hopefully on any new Axon they release, not just on the Axon 7.
What are your thougts on this?
it would be a good thing, as it would extend the phone's life, but im not too positive that zte is going to implement it, sadly. but there still is a chance for that. as we know, axon M uses basically the same hardware, and if axon m is going to support the feature maybe the axon 7 will have it too. you never know with zte, as they do some things surprisingly well, while they do other things lame. time will tell.
hope it too that ZTE will join Treble soon
gogo ZTE!

Good Idea, gonna try to find him and tag him.
Hey @Sunn76 you may be interested in this mate!
hope it helps!
The good news is that Google got Qualcom to support Treble on their Snapdraggon 821 so they could update their Pixel. That takes care of the largest stumbling block. The bad news is that ZTE will likely need support from some other their other part suppliers and unlike Google, ZTE doesn't have the muscle to strong-arm them
Bump. Let's make this happen ZTE!
Doubt it will happen. Be lucky to get a stable O ROM at all IMO. The next Axon is where ZTE will put development effort.
I'd certainly be happy if they did do an O ROM supporting it though......

Great, thanks man
Api2 for camera is important as well, If I'm not mistaken there is a thread for that already posted!
I want this phone to support everything too. It's a great phone. Camera 2 api and treble would bring ZTE to legendary status in my eyes.
However I am a realist too and I understand where money is to made and I can tell you now there's nothing at all in it for ZTE to give us anything extraordinary at all.
At the end of the day I paid half the money for a phone that I believe to be in some ways better than flagship models costing twice the amount and I realise that so my feet are firmly on the ground.
Be realistic with your expectations and don't be disappointed. There aren't any other phones as good as this when it comes to pure bang for buck and things like treble and camera 2 api also aren't enabled on phones far more expensive than ours.

I'm curious what makes you doubt a stable O ROM will be available for the Axon. It's got a what I assumes is a stable LineageOS 14.1 at the moment.
They've recently come down a bit in price and I was thinking of picking one up to replace a Nexus 6P which suffered from the random reboot problem (using modified kernel, only little cores to get it stable).
I won't buy any phone unless I know it has decent custom ROM support.
What ZTE does with this phone will define how well the next phone sells. ZTE isn't mainstream enough to sell phones just out of carrier partnerships and advertisements. Word of mouth is a huge factor and if people aren't satisfied, they will not recommend the phone.
Another factor are Android news websites who will give free advertisements when axon 7 gets oreo and/or treble by reporting on it.

I'm personally pretty satisfied, and I'd definitely buy a new Axon if it's build similarly to the Axon 7 and the price is right.
Zte has the capability to go big I think if they keep their head straight and not compromise on features or sell their devices as expensive as Samsung does for example.
So I'm confused about treble. So from what I'm reading, it will allow Android to be broken down in parts and integrated into separate roms? So for instance, with our phone, it will allow things like stock axon 7 audio to work with our roms? If not can I got a short understanding of what it involves?

More or less it means what you said.
The drivers will be independently updated from the core system if I'm not mistaken and this will make updating and porting so much easier.
According to Udev the Axon 7 will not be getting Treble because it does not have a vendor partition

I don't think that means it can't get a vendor partition because it doesn't have one right now.
We've seen device repartitioning since the early Galaxy S i9000 days.
Nothing is impossible in my books unless proven.

Project Treble

Does this mean development may be much better, despite it being a Kirin based SoC? I would imagine so.

No. That chip is still a nightmare to work with. Most developers have given up on honor. Only a few remain that are holding out hope.
The main issue is that qualcomm has spent decades working with 3rd party developers. Providing documentation, class and all kinds of tools to help them. Other chip makers are not willing to put that much money into it really.

Welp, so much for Honor's XDA partnership. Guess I'll stick with Qualcomm in the future.
Thanks for the informative reply!

Yes, honor V10 (like honor 9, mate 10, mate 10 pro, P10) are allready booting allmost fully fonctionnal AOSP treble rom, take a look on treble section in xda.

To be honest, they have only gotten as far as devs have before when getting aosp to boot on a device that doesnt have it. Treble support has not been as important as it was lead to seem.
Treble has allow to boot one Rom on several devices using different soc. Plus it can use stock kernel so only system partition is flashed. It's as close as a revolution can happen in the Rom development world. Did you check the treble forum?

Oh I am well aware of what is going on over there. Now let me let you in on something. A stock based kernel would always boot on many devices. The thing is that most of the stuff doesnt work without changes. Which is still the case. If it is such a revolution then why are there not soo many developers involved?
We will just have to wait to see. Just how important it turns out to be. I like many dont think it will do a whole lot of anything really. As the updates are still pushed by the OEM anyway and you lose all the features from the OEM on AOSP. So almost no point to it really. It wont make updates any faster or for a longer time frame. IT will be like Net neutrality. Not a whole lot will change.

Question Does this phone has a future for custom ROM development?

I know it just launched. But I just wanted to hear the opinions. OnePlus Nord 2 is pretty powerful phone, but it's a MediaTek Dimensity 1200. Normally OnePlus devices has great development support but as MediaTek device, do you think it will also have ROMs in the future?
Maybe, but we will have to wait till then.
I highly doubt. Don't keep your hopes too high. Look at the Nord CE 5G for a very recent example, in spite of having a Qualcomm proccy.
Oneplus has supposedly lost its charm after becoming Oppo.
Only hope lies for the 9T, if they can somehow figure out a way to keep the temperature/throttling low with the inherently shi*ty 888 and increase the battery life.
At least 1st thing , it should easy unlocking bootloader. (and has unbrick tool.)
Then let's hope if devs interesting this phone.
It's a bit early to suggest, but the chances of getting a custom rom with official support for Nord 2 is slim. MediaTek is the villain here. Developers cannot obtain the source code [not for free] for MediaTek chipset. Though enthusiasts may port other builds to this device for fun and experiment. Further development and official support is unlikely to happen. Either way let's hope for the best.
use fastboot flashing unlock to unlock the bootloader and wait for somebody to patch the boot.img. then lets root and wait for oneplus (hope!!!) to release the sources (though MTK has not been publishing, hope it changes)
It will probably not. I don't have a single example of MTK smartphones with custom roms. Tell me the contrary if it happened, I'm not an expert. Too bad.

Exactly, this should really detract companies from using their proccys but they still go to them for really cheap stuff. And people (((enthusiats))) that buy phones with MTK are really to blame. If people boycott these pathetic closed-ended devices, these manufacturers would be bound to skip such shady manufacturers or pay them extra for their source-code to be released.
I believe the sole reason MTK is cheaper because they don't reveal their source and saves them the cost on extra licensing and stuff. If they did, it might even be more expensive than Qualcomm. Although, recent Qualcomm proccys have been nice little portable electricity using inefficient frying pans, we could still say the future is bright with their market practices being sorted and waiting for the next-next gen, when they switch back to the good'ol TSMC fabrication. Samsung fabrication is really pathetic, everybody knows but they still stick to making processors, makes me sick sometimes.

Well it depends.People have a misconception that mediatek doesn't support custom roms. But it's not entirely true.Take the case of redmi note 8 pro.It has more than 20 custom roms available and also good gcam support. In the initial stages it was struggling to get a custom rom,due to brick issues.Later developers figured out a way to unbrick the phone ,and now it's easy to unbrick if something goes wrong.
So what I'm saying is just wait for developers to pick this phone and if it becomes popular and if there's a way to unbrick for free ,then yeah surely custom rom developement will be there .

Nah! not going to happen. Sad but true fact. May be one or two lackluster half-baked ROMs here and there but it'll be foolhardy to expect quality stuff coming for this phone.

"the future is bright with their market practices"...
Are you serious? Qualcomm were condemned many time due to anticompetitive behavior!
Most competitors leaves the market due to patents abuse (LTE, CDMA), not tiny ones : Intel, NVIDIA, Texas Instruments, Broadcom, ST-Microelectronics.
And people like you applause!
Your name is LeDiable...a tiny evil...your master is Qualcomm...by far!
Ask Oneplus is they dont have the sources you're asking for. They have!
Even a deeper access (Mediatek Open Resource Architecture) than the have with Snapdragon : as Qualcomm's Hexagon sources are closes.

You are right, my bad. I've only checked for a bunch of recent MTK phones I would have be interested in. And the Redmi Note 8 Pro wasn't one of them.

Unlock an OnePlus is very easy, even Nord 2 is no exception. Just enable OEM unlock in the developers settings, then reboot to BootLoader and use the command: fastboot flashing unlock.

As soon as you build it.
I would wait on custom recovery, root access, other things first.
Last time I built LineageOS for a new device it was pretty straight forward, but without working TWRP and/or MSM tools I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to try flashing anything.
hopefully custom roms start flowing in the xda and telegram space

I don't have the Advanced Reboot option in developer settings, and when using hardware keys or adb to reboot to bootloader, I get a "the serial is not match, fastboot_unlock_verify ok" message on the screen.
Any ideas?
