Potential WiFi charging mod? - Xiaomi Poco F1 Themes, Apps, and Mods

A load of teardowns of the F1 are appearing online (this one is really short)
Seems to be very straightforward assembly - easy to get the back off, switch battery etc. 3rd party Qi receiver coils are very cheap and tiny (<1mm thick).
Surely not beyond the wit of man to install one inside the polycarbonate case and wire it into the usb-c power feed?

Would be awesome. A cable between the battery BTB connector would be great. like the qi mod on the iphone. https://youtu.be/YY5R-7dgbEA?t=8m20s

Any updates on this?

The easiest way round it would be to use a qi coil like this https://s.click.aliexpress.com/e/bhqXBDQC inserted between the phone and a tpu case. Only problem really is that it blocks your USBC slot. Cheap and cheerful solution - entirely reversible too

Thanks for replying. I already know about these pads but I'm searching to kinda insert one inside the phone, which would connect internally instead of using the type c port. Not sure where the connection would be possible though, as the current would need to go through the daughter-board for security reasons.

I agree, inserting it in the case is the neater solution, but it is a bit of a complex fix, particularly when you consider how long qi would take to fully charge a 4000mAh battery (I'm guessing about 6hrs, judging by my experience with nexus 4 & 5, both having had much smaller cells). Having thought some more about it I'm just not convinced anymore that it's worth the hassle

Honestly, i don't think it's useful. Fast charging vs wireless. It is possible if you soldier stuff in it, but why

Just because in some of my daily cases it would be very useful (e.g. the car mount connected via cable and charging wirelessly instead of putting the phone in the car mount and try to put the cable in it while holding it).
It is not a must have and ofc it's not charging as fast as wired, but if there is a possibility like a mod to buy I would definitely go for it.

Imho wireless charging is low power efficiency, produce more heat. May i suggess u to use magnetic cable, its easy to use when we driving especialy when you use phone car holder

New dock that allows cases on it

Just found this at amazon and it allows you to charge your S2 with a case on it..
http://www.amazon.com/Sinjimoru-Sta...VKH0/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1318089770&sr=8-3
Hmm that looks interesting. I wonder how stable it is.
There are some video reviews for it on youtube. It looks pretty stable...
That looks nicer than having tto take my phone out of the case to work with the infuse dock

wish it had audio port

Ya...I bought that dock and it's *crap*. Received it today at work and used it for about 1/3 of the day. My desk is completely flat and with the *slightest* tip (or even the headphone cord moving while plugged in) the entire thing rolls backwards. I had to push it up against one of my monitors to keep it upright. On top of it, the entire thing feels *really* cheap (like it could break at any moment) and the phone isn't even kept stationary on top of it. It relies on the cable connection to keep it upright...which is doesn't. The phone moves around without a problem.
Overall, not worth the money. I'll be sending it back tomorrow.

Yikes! I just ordered one of these.
I'm finding that charging the phone in a case is a real problem unless I use the stock usb cord. I have a zillion other cables that work but not with a case. Not psyched about ordering more stock cables. I bet the official dock doesn't work with a case.
Any other solutions with extended connectors for use in a case??
I just got mine and it is not exactly what I expected but it does get the job done. I do not have any stability issues with it, I can actually tilt it backwards about 25 degrees with my phone on it before it falls backward, I do think it would benefit from some extra mass but with the phone on it I have not problem with it. I have the Ballistic case on mine and my problem was that the cable that came with this dock would not reach far enough into my device to make a connection because my case basically adds some depth to the port. I had two choices, either modify my case or the dock. What I ended up having to do was modify the cable that came with the dock with a longer micro usb port at the end so that it would make contact while on the base. Although I agree that this dock could be better, it does accomplish what I needed it to, just needed some help. I have a dock for every one of my devices, but this is the first one that lets me leave my case on.

would it be possible to use the mhl adapter cable and turn this into a tv dock? i dont know if you could replace the larger usb cable that is included and swap it with the mhl one and have power to it and hdmi conencted at all times.
has anyone tried this who bought this item?

[Q] magnetic bits???

Firstly, whats the correct term? Is it a magnetic port/plug/connector????
Anyway Main question: What can it do?
Can it be used for connection to laptop for file transfers etc????
If yes to that, what about MHL (think thats right, the micro usb - hdmi)?
Just wanna keep them little doors shut at all times, if it cant do data then that doors gonna get opened a lot and probably damaged rather quickly

It connects to the magnetic dock. Yup, you can do file transfer between laptop and phone WITH the dock.
There's also a wi-fi dock by Sony, with which your phone charges and you can also transfer files via wifi while doing so.

Pretty sure the Magnetic Dock only charges the phone.. To make use of the magnetic charging port on the phone, you can either get Sony's official DK36 magnetic charging dock, or you can get an after market magnetic charging cable... But you can never transfer data out of the magnetic port - it can only be used for charging.
The only way to get data from a physical cable out of the phone is via the microUSB port on the phone which is covered by the big flap. This will also charge the phone at the same time.

I'm not too sure on that one. I suppose if you wanted to charge the phone as fast as possible by using the dock and you wanted to do file transfers at the same time by using the USB port.
But i'm not too sure what would happen if you use both the magnetic port and the microUSB port on the phone at the same time.. You'd certainly hope that the phone wont explode.. I can only assume the phone will only let one one source [ie: the Micro USB port or the Magnetic Port] charge the battery at any given time. But i have no idea : )
cheers guys, thats a shame. i suppose it will help with the lifespan of the doors but woulda been a hell of a lot more use if it could transfer data...... oh well lets hope sony have that sorted by the time the z6 comes out (at the rate of one every 6 months thatll be my upgrade in 2 years) or that in that time they manage to make an open waterproof micro usb socket

You can check out wireless (WiFi) transfer apps. I know AirDroid is a popular one:

It has pretty amazing capabilities. Maybe it will be good enough for you so you won't even have to use the USB cable very often...

[Q] Magnetic Charger Concerns

I've ordered the Z2 and it should be coming to my door any day now. When I realized that a magnetic charger might be a good idea to prevent wear of the microUSB port I started to look at the options available. Unfortunately the charging dock sold by Sony is too expensive in my opinion and I would like to find an off-brand alternative. I've looked through the posts on this forum and have come to understand that putting the charger in the wrong direction could be a big mistake. I'm still willing to buy just a cable but would prefer a dock to help prevent this.
My questions is does anyone have a suggestion for a dock(preferable) / cable?
I found this cable on amazon:
http://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00...pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1947489602&pf_rd_i=915398
PS: A lot of docks on amazon have some bad reviews and I'm wary of buying them
I was in the same boat. The Sony dock looks nice like but it was fairly expensive.
I just ordered this last week:
http://www.amazon.ca/Magnector-Perf..._1_2?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1421124799&sr=1-2
I've got genuine Sony and this one as well. Sony charger is cut more precisely, phone is held exactly as it should with no wiggle etc. But this alone doesn't justify 10 times higher price. The cheapo one does the job in the same way, I see no difference in charging speed. For example this cable is OK as well. If you don't mind waiting for delivery (it takes about 4 weeks to Europe), I can only recommend these products and Aliexpress site.
Regarding the cables with LED indicator - I've got one and even if it's interesting I don't find it useful. LED light is always on and when it reaches ~95% battery threshold it starts to flicker until fully charged, then the color changes to solid again.
Is it hard to screw up the direction of the charger? I've heard it will completely discharge the battery (It shorts the terminals?)
Also, is there a thin case that has a slot for the magnetic charging / what cases do you use if any?
Thanks for the info guys!
Theoretically the plastic around the terminals should prevent the connector from actually connecting "the wrong way" but in practice it can still happen, especially if you insist in moving and pushing the cable.
If the cable is coming out from "the middle" of the connector is easier to put it wrong (otherwise is easy to remember the cable has to go from the middle of the phone to the bottom so is much harder to make the mistake). However because the phone is so symetric you might confuse the front with the back and put it in reverse even in the docking station.
And last but not least make sure you have good warranty - it is possible that the magnet will "suck out" the connector from the phone, mine is barely hanging and is supposed to be from the batch that fixed this issue.
I have the original Sony dock as well as a third party dock. I also have a magnetic adapter for micro USB. All are working fine. Here are the links:
Third party dock - this works fine with my Z2 even though the title says Z3.
Micro USB adapter
Thanks for the reply unni_kmr, unfortunately I'm in Canada and I can't order through amazon.com easily. (Also that isn't on amazon.ca)
Anyone have input on whether I should get this dock for $15?
http://www.amazon.ca/PatecĀ®-Magneti...=UTF8&qid=1421438530&sr=1-15&keywords=z2+case
Also, I'm looking for a case that's slim but doesn't impede the magnetic charging port. Any suggestions?
EDIT: Found this case, might try to cut a charging hole myself

I don't have a case. I am using the Mocolo tempered glass on front and back. I bought it from here. Its very thin glass. Even with it on the front and back, the phone slides into the docks easily.
slow charging speed
hi there, i recently updated my Z2 , to 4.4.4 and everything is absolutely as expected but magnetic charging speed has taken a serious blow. with 4.4.2 it was as fast as normal cable charging but now with 4.4.4 it has become extremely slow , almost takes 8 minutes to charge 1%, and more than 8-9 hrs to fully charge ..
anyone else facing a similar issue .....kindly suggest solutions.:crying:
thanks

Not only it can work in only one direction but even worse if you manage to make it connect in reverse it might break the phone or the battery. Yay Sony!

I use a "magnetron" cable for several moths now and never had any issues with it.
It is not possible to connect it in the wrong orientation.
I'm really happy with it and would absolutely buy it again.

Very expensive cable though...
And if you wiggle it a bit I'm sure you can make contact with it even in reverse. I assume it is using like any other cable the normal "mechanical protection" which consists in a tiny (fraction of a mm) extra plastic on the "lower" pin from magnetic connector.

[Q] Car mount with fixed USB charger HELP

Hi Guys,
I'm looking for a car dock for my Nexus 6 similar to the pro clip or this fix2car mount http://www.holdersandmounts.co.uk/f...on-mount-dash-mount-with-usb-car-charger.html[1]
Basically my criteria are that I want to be able to take the phone in and out of the mount without having to attach the USB cable after. I want the USB cable to be fixed and the phone simply slides in to it.
The pro clip would cost me 150$+ and the fix2car one I linked would run me close to 70$. I'm looking for something about half that price.
Hope you guys can help!
Thanks
0 replies on XDA and on reddit, something tells me i'm about to drop a hundred bucks on a car mount... AGAIN!
PSA to anyone thinking about it: DO NOT get the airdock 2, it's a piece of poop and the phone falls off constantly.
If you must have the fixed plug, you could hack one in place with some JB Weld. A lot of guys did just that back in the "old" days.
Or suguru, that stuff works great for something like this. BTW, my airdock works great.

If you would like to charge your phone in a car dock without having to attach USB each time why don't you get the QI charging dock? It is about $35-$40 here in US, probably about same in UK. And will work with non-bulky case.

welllllllll the reason why im trying to avoid a QI charging dock (which btw is not a make or model but the technology, can you specify which model you're referring to?) is because i bought this neato quick charge usb lighter thingy and i'd like to be able to use quick charge..... wireless QI charging is pretty slow and when having the screen on, and steaming music, and using maps for nav, it doesn't actually gain any charge!

Well, I am doing the same, streaming and navigating, with Nexus 6 in the dock, using 2.1A USB lighter thingy and it charges.
I am also aware QI is a technology and not a model. There are quite few of those. I am using this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00N4H1R1M?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s01

the problem is that QI will bottleneck your charging. using a quickcharge usb lighter thing will work via a cable but not through QI!
QI will support up to 15 watts of charging in the future, it was actually announced like a couple of weeks ago or something, so future models will support quick charging
I have quick charger at work and at home. In the car I need the dock I can use with minimum effort and without connecting/disconnecting USB frequently

it can if you have it completely tightened down, but you would not be able to pull the phone in and out if it was tightened down. the way i have it now is the clamp holds on to the lip of the phone but not so tightly that I can't easily put the phone in and out of the dock. The clamp does not press on the buttons, this way.

Magnetic charging

I think I'll be backing this as well. I would love to have one on my wireless car charger as well so I can easily switch the USB cable from the charger to my N6 if I need to charge faster and not have to fumble with the cable.

It looks like it can be a real pain to remove if you want to use someone else's cable to charge. Either that or you're going to be carrying your own cable everywhere or carry the cable adapter and risk/probably lose it.
I feel like this is going to be outdated technology when apple introduces something along the lines of there own wireless charger + bluetooth syncing. Apple has 'pioneered' this in the laptops for a while. They also 'invented' the iphones. I'm sure they thought of putting the magnetic ends to it since they also love creating there unique connectors. There's a few reasons why a small magnetic connector like that wouldn't work. For one, the magnetic strength isn't going to be good. It already sucks on the current 'v2' of the mag connector.
USB-C, or 3.1, can easily support a 2amp current to a Qi Charger in addition to carrying data from a bluetooth transmitter to send data back to the host/computer device. That or the phone can sync via bluetooth directly with the computer.

Well its a good idea for people who have a tablet that doesn't support qi charging. I highly doubt crapple will incorporate wireless charging anytime soon considering how slow they were to add NFC. I backed out for my Shield Tablet and the possibility of USB 3.1 Type-C support

You could always cut the end off the cut out a little to make it fit. I already "ordered" mine from their backing website that was set up. I bought 3 USB 3.1 Type-C ones, 3 micro USB connectors, and 2 of each cable adapter along with keychains to hold them when I goto class. My micro USB ones should ship out soon so I'll have to post a review if them when they arrive. I plan to use them on my Nvidia Shield Tablet LTE and my two Nexus 6's
