from aosp to stock

I left stoc ksince jb started rolling out (the first few versions was buggy) and went to aosp. But now I'm back on stock and have been seeing persons with this icon in their notification shade and I have no idea what it is. The little icon next to the settings icon. Could someone help? Just curious about it.

I think it is a button to remove notifications, but it is odd that it is there when you have no notifications. What does it do when you press it?
IIRC that is multi-function screen...give it a try mate!
Are you afraid to click it?
That's the recents button, same as holding your home button

I've used Desktop VisualizeR & QuickShortcutMaker to create app shortcuts (with the name as a blank space) for most of my apps. However there a couple of "live" shortcut icons like Messaging that don't respond well to that technique. Is there another way to achieve what I describe in the above image?

If you are rooted, Nottach Xposed has an option to disable the names: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2293956. It's under 'Launcher>Hide dock app labels'.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I'm unrooted and that's not going to be happening very soon since I updated the firmware.

I don't know if your device supports it, but on the Galaxy S4 you can find how to do it here:
inside-galaxy.blogspot.de/2014/01/samsung-galaxy-s4-how-to-customize_27.html
Go to Settings -> Display Settings -> Notification panel.
Or search for something like Edit quick settings, or anything to do with notification panel in the Settings menu.
If you can't find anything like this, then it probably doesn't support it. I don't own that phone model so I can't say. Sorry.
I was looking for, but there is no such option in the menu.
Perhaps it is stored in an XML file.

How to close or minimize keyboard/Gboard?

I have the dumbest problem ever. I just bought a Xiaomi fitness tracker, and I can't use it because in one of the screens during setup, the "next" button is hidden under Gboard. There's a back button that closes the app (stupid), but no other controls; no way to remove focus from the text field. Hitting return just creates a new line in the text box. Please help!

No, my notification bar (OxygenOS) doesn't have any keyboard options.
However, I was able to get around the issue by going into my phone settings ->Language and Input->change keyboard to SwiftKey->go back to the setup screen->tap the settings button on the Swift Key keyboard->and select "undock". This allowed me to move the keyboard up, finally revealing the next button.
These developers should be ashamed, truly.

Does your g9 power have the 3 navigation keys at the bottom?

I saw a g9 power in the shop today, and it had the 3 navigation keys but most screenshots on the internet dont show as it having them so does yours? I really want it to have them as i cannot operate on swipe gestures on any phone i couldent even unlock a iphone 12 because there wasnt a home button on it.
Tell me please!
If your phone didnt have it and it happenend in a software update please also tell me
Yes, it does. It has an option of either classic three-button navigation or gesture navigation, and I don't think Google will ever remove that option (it's still there in Android 12).
Here's a screenshot of the menu to change the navigation style, while using the 3 button navigation.
