I may have installed some sketchy apps.
Is there a way I can reflash the OS from scratch?
I do have the unlock code from Huawei.
Do I need a special bootloader? How about magisk? (is that for root?)

Why you don't try first Factory data reset?
Should be enough in your case to clean up all the mess caused by sketchy apps.
Thanks will do.

I wonder if its possible to flash a custom Rom, mod it the way you want and than "unroot" (don't have root access in android) it. recovery is ok.
I just don't want any app get root access.
is it maybe just to uninstall SuperUser app?
Thanks for your Help.
You can do as you say root flash custom rom remove root .

Hi, i need to do this too because my company requires MobileIron to access email and it checks for root. How exactly do you remove root after installing the custom rom? Do I just uninstall Superuser? I found a thread from another phone that said you could just rename the following to files:
/system/app/superuser
/system/bin/su
It said to append .bak to the end which I guess allows restoring it later if needed. Will this work, particularly with MobileIron? Thanks.
MIUI or CM roms?
Maybe trying to stop the service that's checking for root will be a better idea...
You can still use MIUI or CM based roms, there is an option to turn off root access.
if you use super user, just open the app. There is a button to remove root
files...
Files...
I am trying to accomplish the same thing with MobileIron. Has anybody tested this by removing root manually after flashing a custom rom?

I installed ARHD 21. Came from pure stock. After mucking around with what I needed for root, like changing the camera shutter sound to make it silent, I then did the unroot in SuperSU's settings. Rebooted then went into MI and was able to connect to company email. FYI, I tried to connect to company email before doing the unroot and I couldn't connect. I'm hoping ARHD will give me better battery life than stock. I also installed the 23 toggles theme before unrooting but I'm not sure if you have to do it before unrooting but I figured might as well. Hope it works for you.
Oh, if your company requires encryption like mine does, if you use ARHD the encryption unlock screen when you first boot is all in Polish. You just type in your pin or password but it's a little annoying. Everything else from what I can tell on ARHD can be changed to English once you select the language. If you figure out how to change the Polish from the unlock screen, let me know. Thanks.
I found this online

Well... I was searching once about a topic similar to this one and I found that you can unroot manually by deleting the following files (if found (all of them)):
/system/bin/busybox,
/system/xbin/busybox,
/system/bin/su,
/system/xbin/su,
/system/app/superuser
Then reboot and you should have unrooted your phone!
I haven't tried this yet!! But anyway here's the source:
androidtipsz/two-simple-methods-to-unroot-any-rooted-android-device. It's dot com but I can't put links
Hope this helps! I know it may be frustrating! Good luck!
For those with MobileIron.
Read up and install xposed, then read up and install rootcloak.
It may have been put clearly somewhere else but I can't seem to locate it. Apologies if I am asking an answered question.
If I root this phone (don't intend to unlock bootloader), however:
Will OTA stop working? (because of modification)
Will doing an OTA update on rooted phone remove root?
If so, is it possible to preserve root while doing an OTA?
Will removing all traces of root be as easy as SU uninstall?
With some phones, the OTA will be broken after rooting and some it will not. This is my first Sony and I wanted to confirm if this was also the case.

Will OTA stop working? (because of modification) No, it would not stop working if you just root
Will doing an OTA update on rooted phone remove root? It may or may not. Nobody has tried it yet. But normally we dont recommend doing OTA after rooting
If so, is it possible to preserve root while doing an OTA? No way till now.
Will removing all traces of root be as easy as SU uninstall? Yes, there is an option in SU to unroot the phone.

Hello,
Thanks so much for your clear and concise responses. Previously I've never been concerned about the unrooting of a phone or access to OTA. I just got so comfortable working with Samsung that I feel a bit out of my depth at the moment with the Z2.

On my phone OTA won't work on rooted device. Firmware downloads fine but it fails verification when trying to install.

If you have made any system changes, you will not be able to accept it anyways. It will just fail.

Best practice is to wait and see if those that have taken an update are able to Root afterwards, if so then your good!
Personally... I'm just keeping my phone on the 10B firmware until a custom recovery comes. My phone runs great right now.
If for some reason we make it to the Android L update before we get an unlock, then I'm wait and see if it's possible to Root and unlock that prior to updating.
My S4 was on 4.4.4 and really being on 4.4.2 were not missing anything.

You would lose root.
It's a toss up of whether you would even be able to take the update.
Depends on how they check the file system. Definitely if you are running Xposed, you won't be able to OTA unless you go back to stock.
Somewhat OT, but I was a bit surprised to see that I kept root after a factory reset (TiBu borked myself into a bootloop). Just re-downloaded and installed SuperSU, and good to go.
Anyone know how to get them running on rooted 5.1, and sidestep rhe whole SafetyNet stupidity? Without losing root, or at most losing it temporarily while they're running?
Tried rootcloak?
Pokemon Go, able to play on root, guarantee
here is a link to instructions on using this app. it is called Magisk!

I was under the impression magicsk wouldn't work, since the bootloader isn't unlocked, there's no custom recovery available? And apparently rootcloak doesn't work for apps that use the google 'safetynet' code.

It is a lengthy process, but flashfire can flash zips. I do not recommend doing it if you don't want to lose your data. it is a possibility.
I was afraid of that...
Flashfire CAN flash magicsk and the rest, however as the bootloader is NOT unlocked on the verizon V10, it errors out and bootloops at the LG logo with an 'error 1003', and 'MODIFIED!'
So, I guess Pokemon GO, and Android Pay are both dead unless I decide to unroot completely
And yes, I *did* end up having everything wiped, but fortunately I had backups, although I haven't figured out how to restore a nandroid backup without a custom recovery.... yet!

I use nandroid manager.
Surprised I haven't seen any posts. 10.0.40 landed on my phone on Oct 28th. Only change is the October security update.
Hello
After rooting my Mclaren, I can't do any more system updates. Does anyone know how I can do it?
Best Regards

You need to restore the boot image back to stock. In Magisk Manager, select uninstall and select restore images. Then reboot and try again. Howerver, depending on what method you used to root, it may not be able to restore the factory boot image. In which case you'll need to find it online.
Seems very skippable lol. Certainly not worth the effort of unrooting and rerooting.
Mine was rooted and had .35 on it. This popped up on mine too and I was able to do OTA upgrade. Not full and lose my data. Happy here
The only change was October security update
Do you have to run the OTA fixer every time there's a new OTA?

Ok, so I have the update waiting to be installed, and I've ran the fixer in the past after a bootloader unlock:
What is the process to update now? Lol do I need to do anything with Magisk?
I think my phone failed to install it, or I just never tried yet cause I'm stupid and still trying to learn all this properly.
