I have been testing and also read on official telegram group that carrier aggregation (4G+ or LTE-A) is not enabled in Europe.
Will there be any fix for it on future updates? Phone is listed as CAT16 but its working as a CAT4.
Any idea? Was Poco community manager on forum? Would be nice to know if Pocophone will be CAT16 in Europe or just CAT4.

yep, it's quite slow and I hope they'll fix it with an update cause compared to my Mi A1 I'm not getting full-speed LTE experience, only slow 4G mode. band 3 actually, no band20:

With *#*#4636#*#* you can see connected cells, or some apps for cell monitoring, it doesn't use never more than one band (EARFCN is the frequency of band used). Could maybe be a CAT5, that it's like CAT4 but supporting MIMO 4x4, but the most standard is CAT4. CAT6+ are all LTE-A with carrier aggregation, what Poco doesn't support in Europe bands. (some info in http://main.rfassurance.com/?q=LTEUeCategory )
Also I work on mobile network engineering, so I have some info from network, but it can be easyly checked from phone, no network aggregation = no 4g+ or LTE-A
my problem was solved by a call with three austria service line.
in fact they didn't get band 20 frequency by auction, only 1800 and 900 for volte calls only.
https://www.rtr.at/de/tk/FRQshare
so, I'd have to change my provider (telekom or t-mobile or a sub) to get band 20.

It's not related to the lack of carrier aggregation for Pocophone in Europe. My provider uses bands, 3, 7 and 20, in a cell with the three bands and that allows carrier aggregation between all them in any order, doesn't work at all while works with another phones.
Btw, installed new MIUI10 open beta, and problem is still there.
@ PocoCommunityManager are you there? Any info?

There is not 4G+ for Poco in Europe like on most xiaomi phone, stop to ask.
I don't think asking is a problem, Pocophone lists the phone as 4g+ in Europe (example: https://www.poco.net/es/specs/ or https://www.mi.com/es/pocophone-f1/specs/ ), so we ask for it.
SD845 allows it, probably it's a fw thing, not hw.

I mean, there is 4g+ but only in special conditions, very rare: it's as if it were not there.
Any chance someone from Poco team could answer this? Other phones using perfectly 4g+ and Pocophone fake CAT16 doesn't at all?
My internet is slower on pocophone than in my last phone, Xiaomi mi a2. And both have band 20, then i thing that is a rom problem.
I think more band combinations are available with MiUi 10 because after the update it's showing me 4G+ on a network.
I'm also having the same problem in Europe. It just wouldn't connect to 4G+, not like on other phones. My operator supports 3+20 and 3+7+20 band carrier aggregation. LTE Discovery app shows that the phone is always connected to band 3 only.
Up !
I wrote about this problem in the main pocophone forum and to be honest there is no real official reply. Some people wrote that CA is disabled due to pocophone not buying proper licences from Qualcomm.
It's difficult to say how accurate this explanation is. One thing is definite, they advertise pocophone as LTE cat.16 capable and at the same time they disable this feature completely and limit capabilities to LTE cat.4 (not even cat.6 ....). This is not what you call honest marketing. More like lying about you product capabilities. I think CA happens but only in India or in some extremely rare cases in some other countries, especially if certain phone companies offer CA on frequencies similar to indian frequencies.
No developer can activate this option? With a custom ROM or something? The sd845 supports this though!
Any update?
they are not interested as usual. flagships in Xiaomi's term: "yeah it's fast but that's all. buy it then don't ask CAUSE IT'S FAST OKAY?"
Why is this thread inactive? I live in Greece where carriers use 3 7 and 20 for 4g although poco is always connected on 3 as stated. Has anyone tried to enable 3CA using QPST?
I usually get connected to band 3 or 20.
I'm in Spain. To make sure I'm using band 20 I switch from 4g to 3g and back to 4g Enmidiately. Screenshots attached.

I just wanted to discuss if anyone is using any Xiaomi device while on any of Canada's phone carriers.
I have no problems getting mine working on 4G LTE currently across the Greater Toronto Area. I only tried this on the MIUI 7 with the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro (version I got is China Mobile/Unicom Edition) although I do believe my method will work on MIUI 8 and Global version as well. If anyone needs help setting up theirs to work on 4G LTE network in North America, just leave a reply below. And I will post How-To.

Mine is running on Qualcomm Snapdragon variant of the phone.
Technically my phone supports the following:
Network Bands/ Frequencies:
2G bands GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 - SIM 1 & SIM 2
3G bands HSDPA 850 / 900 / 1700(AWS) / 1900 / 2100
TD-SCDMA
4G bands LTE band 1(2100), 2(1900), 3(1800), 4(1700/2100), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 38(2600),
39(1900), 40(2300), 41(2500)
With my (TBA) method, the bands/ frequencies are utilized switching from 3G to 4G with ease while in Canada. *Also I'm not getting any problems with signal or data so far so good
Below is screenshots of what I can gather, how well my method works (despite Canada LTE network requires Bands with 700MHz)
I have that version China/unicom but there i have only 2g.cant use 4g it gets no service and 3g only appears the network but cant send sms/make calls/internet

Go to the dial pad of your phone. Type *#*#4636#*#* and press on "phone information1" if that's where the sim card is located that you are using. Scroll down until you find "Set preferred network type" and choose "Unknown".
Now go to settings of your phone and press on "sim cards & mobile networks" and press the "Sim 1" by now press "Preferred Network Type" change to 3G or LTE.
Hopefully this works for you.
Im in a bad luck.its the same lte i get emergency calls only and if choose 3g network appears but it switches back to Edge.when 3g appears data icon disapears and get no sms calls internet
I was in Canada for a couple of weeks and used my Redmi Note 3 Pro on Rogers network. 4G worked fine, didn't have to do anything special. I think it was the 2600Mhz band. I am running CM13 nightly.

Nice to hear that, but some people have problems in Canada depending on what model of redmi note 3 pro they have and which phone carrier/ provider they were trying use.
Im in Portugal.the frequencies in the China unicom redmi note 3 should work here.im trying running all options until jumping to the hardware issue since i got this phone with a vendor customize rom.

The Pocophone F1 LTE bands are listed as
1(2100), 3(1800), 5(850), 7(2600), 8(900), 20(800), 38(2600), 40(2300), 41(2500)
However, it is supposed to launched in Mexico and Colombia as well.
Mexico LTE Bands - 2 & 4.
Colombia LTE Bands - 4 & 7
Band 2 and 4 will be very helpful for us US peeps.
Not sure how Xiaomi locks the bands, do they use software? in which QPST should be able to unlock the bands.
or
They lock them via hardware, in which case Poco F1 will have a different model from Mexico and Colombia (and other countries which use Band 2 and Band 4?
QPST

Thanks.
Also following for the answer. Bands 2 and 4 would make it quite viable for T-Mobile service in the US.
Phone has indeed been announced for Colombia (where LTE band 4 is used) and it's already going through Colombia's own certification authority. I would assume that we might be facing a similar situation as with Mi A1 in that the manual said it didn't support LTE band 4 (check the post I just linked to) but on first setup if you chose "Español (Mexico)" as the language, it would enable LTE band 4.
its sad that this phone with the flagship qualcomm sd845 should handle universal lte bands, but somehow in xiaomi phones specially the LTE bands are pretty limited, for example here we use band 28 (700 mhz) and there are no support for that

It'd be great if someone could try band 12. The lack of that band is a deal-breaker for T-Mobile in the US on my Mi A1.
Nobody has been able to enable band 12 on phones that don't officially ship with it. This has been the case on the OnePlus One, Mi A1, Mi A2, and more. You can "enable" it in QPST, but it doesn't work.
So, this phone is a no-go for AT&T LTE in the US? Might have to return it if it only supports band 5... shame, I really like the idea of it! Maybe there's a way to enable more bands, but from the other poster, it doesn't really look like it.
whats odd is they disable face ir for other regions

It is more compatible with TMobile and Verizon because it has the bands they use. It barely has 5g bands and barley any 4g bands for att. It'll work but you'll have signal issues most likely. TMobile is pretty cheap and the service they have now is miles better than what it was even 3 years ago.

How is being parked under a 5g tower magically going create apps or tech that takes advantage of 5g?
I thought the Xperia could connect to the 5G bands that actually will increase connection speed drastically: n41, n71, n77, and n78. I do not value the mmwave 5G because they drastically drain battery.
11 frequencies are used in N.A.

B&H Photo, the best.
Only issue with 5G coverage is it's coverage even when there are plenty of 5G towers. It's more directional than 4G.
Perhaps the rep is correct though, their staff tends to be very knowledgeable. AT&T is a monster anyway

Thanks. I look forward to your experience
Hate to break it to you but we will only be able to get 4G LTE with HD Voice. This is extremely agrevating as I purchased the Xperia Pro to take advantage of the 'extraorinary' 5G speeds but turns out the phone only gets 4G LTE + HD Voice. IMEI gets picked up by AT&T as the Xperia Pro and even with a APN changed it refuses to connect.
Since the phone is unlocked, couldn't you get it on AT&T and if the 5g coverage didn't work well, just switch over to TMobile?
When ordering you have to pick carrier, my guess is that they include a SIM for that carrier? but you could just swap to another carrier SIM if you wanted later?

Hate to break it to you but we will only be able to get 4G LTE with HD Voice. This is extremely agrevating as I purchased the Xperia Pro to take advantage of the 'extraorinary' 5G speeds but turns out the phone only gets 4G LTE + HD Voice. IMEI gets picked up by AT&T as the Xperia Pro and even with a APN changed it refuses to connect.

5G speeds tend to not be so extraordinary. Up to a 20% increase over 4G LTE if you're within range which is also iffy. That's what I've been seeing reported.
I wouldn't sweat it...
Just spent a few hours w/ T-Mobile Expert Tech and Xperia USA Tech after trying everything to access T-M's 5G n41 band with my 1 III (XQ-BC72). Short answer: it's not happening and neither rep knew why so they're submitting a ticket and will get back to me.
For what it's worth - although the "Expert" reps would neither deny nor confirm, when I called Xperia Support USA (855-806-8464), the tech rep there said she found a Sony bulletin which said only Verizon 5G is working currently and T-Mo and AT&T will be fixed in a software update - no ETA.

No Volte and no wifi calling on Sony too (its terrrrrrrible)
The Xperia 1 III US model doesn't support 5G very well. It's unreliable even on T-Mobile because stand alone mode is disabled in the phone's configuration. It combines a short-range LTE band with long-range NR 71. Being that SA is disabled, it gains nothing but battery drain from that mix.
I was having issues with my Mk III answering and making calls, I figured I would try a new Sim. They refused saying that AT&T has a approved list of phones they will allow to be used due to the 3G going away. Has anyone heard about thid

Check the AT&T whitelist for your model, if it's listed, it's supported.
First mistake is ever using ATT, go with T-mobile, Verizon, or a reseller like Mint or straight talk.

AT&T is working fine, seamlessly for my 2 N10+'s; N975U, N975U1. Didn't have to do anything after the switch over. Your device wasn't configured for or running on 4G VoLTE and that's the issue.

Sending you a new SIM would be pointless 'cause your phone is 3G only and AT&T no longer has a 3G network.
It doesn't work well with T-Mobile either. It's using standalone 5G channel combos even though Sony disabled standalone 5G for all US bands. The end result is lots of signal drops because it has long-range NR 71 but lost the medium range LTE band 2 or 66 it needs. It takes it a few minutes to switch to LTE 71 or LTE 12.
I am on VZW and 5G works great. Only once have I seen it change to LTE and that was because of weather. It sound like the ATT person you talked to was assuming you were on a 3G phone, and there not going to give a sim card for a 3G phone. The system is going away.

I wonder if you have a defective phone...or you live in an area where the signal towers are too far away???
I realize that this phone "needs" to have NSA or NSA+SA mode turned on to receive 5G on T-Mobile. However, I have none of the signal issues or drops that you are having. Something is wrong with your device specifically.

It's as designed:
Sony Xperia 1 III (US) (XQ-BC62) | 4G/5G Bands & Combos
4G & 5G Bands, Carrier Aggregation and Dual Connectivity Combinations for Sony Xperia 1 III (US) (XQ-BC62)
cacombos.com
Sony is using the wrong long-range band for the sake of turning on the 5G indicator. It should be using LTE 66 + LTE 12.
I have a SA 5G phone for comparison and it has a far faster and more stable signal. I bring it when I hike or travel.

Thanks for the link to the att website that listed the Sony phones as not being affected by the 3G closure. I went back in and they acknowledged that the phone was OK but could not get the new Sim card to work on their tablet . I got them to call AT&T tech support and though he had trouble initially got it activated. The new Sim seems faster and so far has not stopped working. The old Sim card if I remember was from my previous phone a Experia 1 Mk II. My MK III is from Best Buy (unlocked} and not a international model.
Yes I know this phone does not work with most of AT&T 5G network. Their 4G is pretty fast and with my travel in the past I have loved their network throughout the country.

You're welcome.
I don't have a 5G model either. I deliberately got the 4G for better battery life... 4G is fast enough today.

Sorry. I replied to the wrong post. If your phone isn't in the list of phones you'll find in post #2, then they won't send a new SIM. And I don't know what model "1 III" refers to, so I can't check it.

You're in the forum of that model why are you even here when you have no idea what's Xperia 1 III?!
Does the Zenfone 9 officially "support" T-Mobile 5G? I believe the answer is NO, and that's why 5G is disabled by default. With 5G enabled on my phone, I frequently encounter a complete lack of mobile data, even though the phone is showing full signal. I believe there are certain carrier aggregation combos that the phone is using, that T-Mobile doesn't support (and/or vice versa).
Users on Reddit have noted that the following two 5G CA modes do not work on this phone:
* n41 NSA
* n41_n71 SA CA
https://www.reddit.com/r/zenfone/comments/y47z51
It seems like if you're going to try to use this phone on T-Mobile you NEED to disable 5G.
I have also seen people state that if you are rooted, you can edit QPST (carrier_policy.xml) to disable n41 entirely and it mostly "solves" the problem.
Seems like this is a pretty big problem with this phone that no one is really talking about.
I get T-mobile 5G, but only after dialing *#*#ENHANCED4G#*#* and toggling the 4G Calling option after each reboot and I don't need to reboot that often.
T-mobile US VoLTE 5G mobile data instability fix with root
I was having problems with mobile data through T-mobile in the US that I was have to disallow 5G or else the carrier connection would drop. Sometimes it would reach 4G+, but it would drop the mobile data connection all the time, especially when...
forum.xda-developers.com
Another update.... Lots of people tell me their calls to me go directly to voicemail, so I did some testing. Sitting at home, with very very good 5G coverage, about 25% of the time, when I placed test calls to myself (from another cell phone) the phone would not even ring, just go directly to voicemail. Same problem on wifi calling on my rock solid 1gbps/1gbps network.
If I disable 5G (use 4G only), the problem is solved.
This phone DOES NOT properly support T-Mobile 5G.
I have T-mobile and have been using Zenfone 9 (US version which is C version I believe).
Phone does support 5G for T-mobile, as you can see below. What Zenfone does not support is mmwave 5G which are on bands 258, 260 and 261 from Tmobile. That is also known as 5G UC (ultra capacity) which is usually 250-300-350Mbps network speed.
Just earlier today I measured my speed in Chicago where I had 5G+, and it came back at 192Mbps.... Now which is exactly this 5G+ band, I have no clue, but all above listed is my personal experience, and I live in Chicagoland...
Check your coverage area, and try to get Tmobile to provide you exact information on what the network band is used for the area where you live... That may be the resolution to your issues where you do not have 5G...
Btw: where I live there is just normal 5G but speeds from Tmobile are about 30Mbps for 5G and on the 4G I get about 20Mbps... I can tell you for a fact there is not much difference in what that 20Mbps does for you, while 5G is just tiny bit faster that is all...
My next phone will be Samsung S23+ or Ultra because Samsungs support ultra capacity 5G and are certainly faster on 5G UC than anything I have seen before on mobile phones.
