Wifi Hidden Network not Reconnecting - Samsung Galaxy S9+ Questions & Answers

On my previous devices , including my Note 8 that I still currently have, I can connect to a hidden network at my place of work. By clicking "Add Network" then the credentials. The network connects fine --- but unfortunately when I leave the area on the S9+ and then later return it will not reconnect to that same network. The network is listed in the Network Manager network listing but it doesn't reconnect unless I re enter the credentials
On my other devices, including my Note 8 , the Network reconnects when it's back in range ...
Any thoughts or ideas?
At first I thought it might be because of a custom ROM but currently I'm fully stock and not rooted

What kind of security (WEP, WPA2, 802.1x EAP, etc.) does your work use for the wifi?

I choose the line WPA/WPA2/FT PSK when I set the network up
In the Manage Networks the network says Security ...WPA/WPA2 PSK

I am not 100% sure on this, but it may have something to do with it being a hidden network. I have had some phone's which do that and the only thing I can figure is that it's because the SSID isn't being broadcasted. So when the phone searches for the access point so it can connect it has no idea it's even there (which is why it shows up as hidden/unknown). Even if you have it as a saved connection if it isn't showing as trying to connect to the access point then it isn't even connecting... Which is why I suspect (can't verify, but there is an easy way for you to do it) this to be the result of the hidden SSID.
Now I am not sure why hidden wifi SSID's would be an issue for the S9+ and not the Note 8, but if you have the ability to use another wireless router can you try setting up a hidden wifi access point and try connecting to that. Then if you can please move outside of the wireless range of the router (or just turn off and back on the wifi on the phone) as to replicate the disconnecting and reconnecting to a hidden access point.
Basically what your trying to see if the issue is specific to your work place or any hidden SSID. This way you can be more certain the cause is the SSID being hidden since it happens on more then one specific access point.

Ok I'll try to set something up at home

Ok so I found some really strange behavior that I haven't had with Note 8 or my S7
Like I mentioned my workplace hidden network won't reconnect when it comes back into range and with testing I created my own hidden network on another phone using wifi hotspot. The S9+ doesn't reconnect to it either if the hotspot is turned off then back on. However when I re enter the credentials for my test hidden network then the work hidden network is recognized!
It's like re creating the hidden network activates the phone to look for all networks but otherwise it only looks for visible networks

That is indeed rather strange behavior... You could try clearing the cache on the phone, resetting the network settings (you would need to set your wifi connections back up) and at most factory reset. I would also suggest contacting Samsung and reporting the issue as well, though I they may very well as you to do a network settings reset, cache partition wipe and factory reset also.
To clear the cache partition you do the following:
Power off the phone.
Press and hold the following buttons on the sides: Volume Up button, Bixby button and the Power button.
You can stop holding all 3 buttons when the Android logo appears.
You will know your on the right track when ‘Installing system update’ appears. If it doesn't then you will need to power off the phone and start with step 1.
When the recovery menu is displayed press the volume down button to select "wipe cache partition".
After selecting the "wipe cache partition" is selected press the power button to activate the command.
When prompted press the volume down button to select yes. Please press the power button to confirm your selection.
You can repeat steps 5, 6 and 7 a few times if you want (I do this 5 times) but once should be enough. If you are ready to reboot your phone go to step 9
If it is not already selected please press the volume down button and choose Reboot system. Press the power button to complete the reboot process. The restart afterwards may take a little longer and is normal after clearing the cache partition

Thank you for the suggestion but I'm rooted so I can and have wiped cache many times with no improvement.
The issue happens on initial (when I purchased stock) , updated stock and several custom Roms/ kernels
Update -- I have found a Tasker app / plugin called WiFi Connect that is designed to connect to certain WiFi profiles
If I set up a profile to connect to that hidden work network it connects just fine (but for some reason , no matter what I do it won't "auto" connect)
-- The problem is that after I get to work if I go out of range certain few areas in my work, then it loses connection and won't reconnect unless I manually reset the Tasker task or manually "re add" the hidden network and credentials
The best solution is to find out why my S9+ is having problems with hidden networks (maybe someone else could create a hidden network and confirm the behavior)
An alternative would be for someone to tell me how to write a Tasker profile that activates when in a certain Locale (any where near my work) .... but also reactivates if I'm still in the Locale but lose connection to my hidden Network

Note 9 on Verizon (still running Oreo)
I'm having the same issue. Workplace WiFi is hidden. I can connect to it just fine manually, but auto-connect won't pick it up. I have to manually open the Wifi settings to show Available networks in which the hidden wifi will appear. I click it and bam..connected. Quite annoying though. Perhaps the new Pie update will have a solution?? Can anyone confirm if Pie fixed the issue?

Help: Wifi not connecting

Since Yesterday my wifi hasnt been working. It just randomly stopped connecting and im not sure why. It askes me for my network code and when i type it it (exactly how it is) it says network key incorrect and wont work. and when im at my friends house whhere there is no need for a network key, it says that IE cannot display the page. Also it keeps trying to dial out verizon broadband when my wifi switch is on. Isnt it not supposed to do that?
Just because the Wifi switch is on does not mean the wireless is enabled. Have you tried using the connection management button (the one just below the power button) to bring up the connectons screen nd make sure that WLAN is enabled and it's not in flight mode or anything.
Also go to Start > Settings >Connections > Wireless LAN
Check the MAIN Tab.. you should see all the fields filled in and a signal Quality Meter.
The ADVANCED Tab will show your IP and Status..
That should help you determine if you are really are connected.
yes my wifi is enabled in the connections manager. and in the settings it does not show that i am connected to a network.
when you search for wireless networks, do you SEE yours? or are you entring it manually?
yes i see mine. It pops up to notify me and asks for my Network key. and when i enter it it tells me its wrong but i know its not beacause i was looking right at the linksys network on my home computer.
I seem to remember there being an issue with WPA keys at some point.
Try removing the security from the access point... then try to connect. (I'm not suggesting this as a perminent fix, just to see if it's a problem connecting, or a problem with the encryption. Turn the Security back on after the test.)
I know you tested at a friends.. but try this anyway. If you can connect ok, then you have an encryption issue... if you still cant, you have an issue with the wireless itself.
what ROm / Radio do you have?
What kind of security do you use? WEP? / WPA-PSK?
How Long is your key?
Yes i think its my encryption becasue i went to work today (A campground) and connected to their unsecured network right away. My friends internet is always messed up anyway.
I am using DCD 3.2.5 ROM
and radio 3.42.50
Its a WEP Encryption and the code is 10 characters long

Wireless network keeps stopping...

anyone got any solution, it can drop after 10 secs, and im sitting right in front of the router.....
Possible fix:
Had the same problem - the wifi never stayed connected.
I've followed this procedure with the wife's Iphone and my X10 and it seems to work - dunno why, but it does.
BTW I have a Netgear Router.
1.) on the X10, Forget any connections you have set up with your router (Hold on the connection then select Forget)
2) Turn off WiFi (Tap WiFi)
3) Access your router and enter the Wireless section (see your manual - it varies Router to router)
4) Turn off any security you have set up on your router. You may need to APPLY the change and then RESCAN the router to actually transmit it. If you connect to the router via WiFi you may need to re-connect your computer to continue.
5) Back on the X10, turn the wiFi back on wait a minute
6) Refresh the network list (Menu button > rescan)
7) Select your Network name and connect (hold on the Network name, then select Connect)
8) The X10 should now connect to your unsecured network.
9) Back to the Router and re-enable the Network Security (APPLY and RESCAN if necessary). Again you may be disconnected if you use WiFi for your PC, so re-connect.
10) Back on the X10 and you are disconnected again. The X10 may be displaying a Password requirement, if not then Tap on your Network and select connect - it'll appear.
11) Enter your Password, and you should be connected.
Hopefully - with luck and a following wind, you are connected and it won't lose it again....
Good Luck!

[Q] Wifi always defaults to open ssid

Whenever I get home, my phone always seems to default to a BT Openzone wifi, which one of the neighbours obviously has set up on their router. The problem being, that my SGS2 always decides to connect to this, rather my own wifi. Whether it's because it picks this signal up first, as might be stronger when driving in to area, I don't know. But the point is, that I never asked it to connect to this ssid...
I will then go to wifi settings, and choose "Forget this network", and then it connects to my ssid... However, I don't want it to automatically connect to open wifi's.
Is there a setting somewhere that I'm missing to tell it not to connect to open wifi networks automatically? Happens every time I come home. Try connecting, cannot connect, and then realise it's conected to the openzone open wifi... Forget it, and it works. Go out, come home, openzone, forget, works. etc etc...
Using the checkrom revo hd 3.1.1, in case it's a setting that's been set up on that rom?! Had a look, but couldn't see anything
Hopefully someone can please please help

Just a suggestion:
There is an option in Settings menu => Wireless and network => WLAN settings => network notification.
Have you already tried to change this setting?
There is also an advanced menu in WLAN settings - just click menu button => advanced.
In advanced WLAN settings, you can set to use a static IP address.
If you enter an IP address for your private WLAN, then you can prevent to be connected with an open wifi dynamically.
It is not very elegant, as you have to switch this setting, if you want to receive an IP address dynamically again, for example in other WLANs.
So, it is just a workaround - not a solution.
Maybe you can find an app in the Market to save different WLAN configurations/connections and which allows you the disabling to connect to other (non-saved) WLANs.
But I have not search for such an app yet.
Good luck !
Thanks for the suggestion...
Setting a static IP is not really an option, as I'm often between different networks...
Have tried disabling the "automatically notify open wifi" setting, and will see tonight... Hopefully this will work Hadn't thought of that affecting it, but it might just...
If not, anyone else who has any further suggestions are wholly welcome

As wifi settings are mainly hosted in the kernel, you may flash a different kernel (compatible with your ROM !).
Please wipe cache partition (and Dalvik cache) in recovery mode after flashing.
Good luck !
Does your home network by any chance have a hidden SSID?
Another idea might be to look at the wifi-configfile. IIRC, it is saved in /data/wifi/bcmsomething.conf.
If you do not find it, I can check for the correct name tonight.
My phone does not and never did autoconnect to open networks (I am using CheckROM Revo HD since the first version, now at 4). Can you select the open network in wifi settings, hold long and choose to delete settings for it?
I'm having the same issue and think it is because I have the vodafone app installed, do you have that installed too?

Connecting to hidden wifi out of box

well, you need to know the wifi's SSID and password. You open wifi menu, on the lower right corner there is a + sign. There you can enter a new network.
Just to add that if anyone else cannot find that + sign like me, in the wifi menu (where it lists all wifi networks), swipe from the left to bring up the menu and "Add Network" option is in there.
My home wifi network SSID is hidden but I initially connected the TS to it by unhiding it temporarily. But after a reboot, TS wouldn't automatically connect to the network (saying that it's not in range). Proper way is what is mentioned above, to use the "Add Network" option (and not temporarily unhiding the wifi network).

Wifi connects then immediately disconnects

Hello
I'm having trouble connecting to a lot of Wifi networks that most other people with Android and Apple phones have no problems with, including my home network.
Here's what happens:
Turn on WIfi, select SSID, type in the correct password. It connects for about a second (I know because snapchats etc, pop-up), then disconnects and changes to "Saved".
Then the SSID disappears from the list of available networks, and exists only in the Saved Networks section. If tap it I get only "Forget" & "Cancel".
To try to work out what was going on I enabled Developer options and set "Enable Wi-Fo verbose logging".
If I go through the same cycle, it connects for a second, then goes to saved and shows this underneath the SSID
"NETWORK_SELECTION_DISABLED+ASSOCIATION REJECTION=1"
I'm on Android version 7.1.2 Build No. TOS137B - N2G47H
The phone isn't rooted or anything
Can you tell me what's going on and how to fix it?
Hi there
Just wondering if you have McAfee installed?
I'm not much of an expert but I had a similar issue with WiFi on my Medion X2050 (I think that's what it's called) and I uninstalled McAfee and the problem was gone.
