For some reason I keep getting a notification from secure folder ("content hidden ")
If I open it and verify it just opens Samsung's app store? I love the secure folder feature for privacy, but I cant get it to stop sending me notifications. As in, I'd rather no one knows secure folder even exists on the phone unless I access it. It is toggled off in the pull down menu as well. Any thoughts?

In the settings you can disable notifications from apps running inside the folder.
Open the folder, hit the three dot menu, Settings, Notifications and Data, App notifications, toggle off All apps.
It looks like in your case the app store is the offending app, probably spamming you with some deal or letting you know there's an app update available.
Worked like a champ. Thanks. Got another question. In my status bar it shows 3 gmail icons stacked on each other. But I've cleared the notification tray. First shot is what it shows. Second is when I pull down from the top of the screen. Sprint model, unlocked with unbranded stock FW flashed on it if that matters.
First shot didn't load
I know the stacked emails means you have multiple unread items in your inbox, not sure why you're getting three of them and/or they are sticking like that.

What kind of Mp4 is that
Oh geez. I have like 2000 unread gmails. Mark all as read I suppose. Must be a new oreo thing or part of the stock FW. And by Mp4 what do you mean? I'm thinking a video file lol

Ok so im new to andriod after coming from a lg arena(km900) so if i ask anything a bit noobie cut me some slack
1) Iv seen on like other phones you get a number 1 or 2 or however many on the icon of the app when you got a notification, at the moment my notifications are all coming to that drop down status bar and none on the icon of the app itself. Is it possible to get that icon?
2) Sometimes i get a facebook notification about a new message or other things in the drop down menu and i click it but it doesnt go to that notification and i have to open facebook manually and look for it. Am i doing something wrong here?
like it says "you have got a new facebook message" i click it but it just takes me to the home screen and doesnt take me into facebook
I searched and cannot find the answer likely because it probably requires root.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge with T-Mobile.
My goal is to have my notifications make a noise when they come in (mainly talking about text messages) but NOT display the caller name and context of the text message.
This is a feature called "headsup" in Lollipop I understand that. And there is even a place in settings that says "turn off pop-ups" but it does not work.
So root or no root, how can I still get a sound and maybe even a visual notification but NOT the name and content of the incoming text message. Gets pretty annoying if watching a movie, etc and for privacy reasons of course.
Thanks!
You mean on lock screen?
No not the lock screen, that is easy to block but the actual popup that happens every time a text message comes in. It is part of Lollipop and I have tried all the settings I can think of and researched it on line.
Pretty sure I need to root and use some rooting app or settings.

You can do it so you only get notification on the messaging app's icon. If that would be OK. No root needed
Go into
Settings
Applications
Application manager
Then find messaging
Un tick 'show notifications'
To get sound notifications back, download this app
Hope this helps
This problem only began happening yesterday but i do not recall downloading anything new or changing settings. I will attach a screenshot (with sensitive info blanked) which shows what is happening. I use cloudmagic for email and textra for texts. It has always just shown the messages from each simply with the person its from and the body of the text below. However now i am seeing duplicated of both texts messages and emails (not whatsapp duplicated though) . One is the normal textra/cloudmagic notification but the other is the more blank looking one of each, with the grey icon - See screenshot. Any help would be greatly appreciated on how to get the second almost blank (except for sender) notification turned off for both texts and emails. Thanks
You are also getting notifications from the stock apps. Simple. Go in and shut them off

I have set the 'email' app to show no notification from this app in - sound and notificiation area and also in the app area listed unticked show notifications. Same for default messaging. Is there anywhere else this needs to be done?

No telling as I am sure we have different devices and different setups. Could be something got corrupted. Try making sure that all things are marked as read and then clear the cache in the apps and reboot.

It seems that your third party apps are conflicting with system apps thats why you receive duplicated notifications, however you can go to application manager in Settings and set default apps of your choice, hope this may solve your problem
Thanks so much for both of your replies, still no luck yet!
Long press the notification and then hit the info button that will tell you what app it is and allow you to disable the notification.
Ok that was helpful and its make me discover the weirdest thing, both notifications are from the app i want to use. So for emails its cloudmagic and it sends me the usual cloudmagic notification - with the sender and body and also sends me the second grey empty notification. Whats wierder still its the same for texts, double notification, one the normal textra notification, the other greyed out and also from textra. So none of the stocks apps are sending the dual notifications
Actually just noticed it only happens ont he lock screen, not int he pull down notification area. I am using smart launcher
Is there a way to get notifications to pop-up when the always on display is active?
You get the icon above the clock. Are you wanting a whole heads up notification or something? The screen to turn on? I don't think there is an option for something like that. At least I haven't seen one.

Yes - I would prefer a pop-up notification for text messages, emails. Was hoping there was a setting I was missing to be able to allow this.
Thanks.

It only shows an icon. I wish it showed the actual message Like Pixel does. but it does not. If your main concern is text messages you can download something like Textra which has an option to wake up the phone when I message arrives. Then you will see the message.

Is there somewhere an app that will also show pop-up messages? Using the Outlook app for example...I find it totally worthless that I get a notification sound but absolutely no popup. I don't want to have to pull the notification center down, I just want a pop up showing the message that I just received.
On that note, I *HATE* how the lock screen INSISTS on combining notifications from an app. If I get 10 emails, I want to see 10 separate notification entries, damn it.
Using Android....is, well, annoying. I shouldn't have to download apps just to make everything work. No wonder my wife rejected the V30 and went back to iOS.

Believe it or not Android is getting better and better with how notifications are handled and how they can be custom tailored per each app. The usage of the notification center is that way for a reason for quick and easy access to your notifications without completely interrupting the user. The cool thing is that there are other apps that you can use in order to adjust the phone to perform how you want it. Android is all about customization. You can have it the way it comes from the manufacturer or you can add apps to customize your experience. For this reason it may take an Android user longer to initially set up a phone vs a iUser.
Good luck.

Several apps I have installed like to post momentary notifications when they perform something in the background (presumably so they don't get killed). These notifications bug the crap out of me and I'd like to disable their respective notification channels. However, they don't appear long enough for me to lower the notification shade and long press on them. So I have tried to determine what channel they come from using numerous notification history apps, but none of these apps have been able to show me what channel the notifications are from. Does anyone know of one of these apps that does show the channel or some other way to determine what channel the notifications come from?

Hi,
Maybe you could try to check in the stock notification history. To find it go to widgets and create a setting shortcut. There will be a list which will contain "Notification Log" or smt like that. Create the shortcut and when you'll see those fast notification just check your history right away. In the best case you'll find the channel, but if you're not lucky, you'll still got the app that does it and turn all its notification off (if it is really annoying)
Have a good day

I'm on Samsung Galaxy S20+ so the settings shortcut doesn't work. I have no difficulty getting the offending application, there are dozens of apps that will show a notification history, but I've been unable to find one that shows the notification channel.

If the settings shortcut method doesn't work, I don't have any other alternatives. I've never heard of an app that could retrieve the Channel, but I knew that it was possible to have the Channel ID in the notification log. In Android 11, this "notification history" feature will be added, and you'll have much more infos than right now.
Use the good lock app "Nice Catch".
