a notification badge - a grey dot above the settings app icon
thanks
EDIT - disregard. I figured it out. I am charging the phone via USB, and despite telling it that I only want to charge it (not use data transfer), a settings notification still exists when I pull down the status bar. And thus, that badge on the settings app. As soon as I disconnect the usb cable, the badge goes away.

When I pull the notification tray down I don't have wifi in there. Is there anyway to change them?
Not with a the stock ROM. Verizon added an ongoing notification (which you should see) to turn wifi on instead of a toggle. Beans and CleanROM remove that ongoing notification and allow you to customize the toggles including adding in a wifi toggle.
Is this the popup that shows every time I open an app? If so, I shut that off...it was so annoying!!!
I am working on an application which need to show notification.
Since in a notification I am not able to set a dynamic text/icon for small icon user have to swipe down the notification to see/read notification message.
I MiUI roms I found that they are showing texts in status bar
(Right side of notification bar where time and connectivity status is shown).
How can I show temperature in status bar?
(Root access is fine for my application.)
Since upgrading to Lollipop, my Galaxy Gear S5 has not been displaying the tiny icon of a Gear S on the notifications area at the top of the 'phone screen.
According to the user manual: Status icons appear at the top of the Moments screen. You can also display status icons by double-tapping on the screen with two fingers.Common icons are listed in the table below. Icon Status: Bluetooth connected. The Gear S is connected to the smartphone via Bluetooth.
The main notifications area (pull down from main screen) confirms connection - as before.
Is this correct? And is there a way to bring it back?

Double Tap and pull down is on the Watch screen, right ? not on phone screen.
And you not see the tiny watch icon on notification bar of your phone ?
I've a new icon appearing in my status bar that I don't recognise - top left in the attached image.
Any idea what it is?
Thanks,
Dave
Ignore me - it's Data Saver on!

Does the LED notification light not work? Mine only ever shows when the phone is plugged in. I can't get it to flash when I have notifications, even though all settings in Android settings seem to be turned on

The problem is due to all the PER-app notification permissions. (I was missing notifications all the time. )
The next time you miss a notification: (Instructions are for MIUI12 but should be similar for MIUI1. I think the upgrade may have also reset some of the notification settings):
Swipe down on the status bar from the top left.
Long-press on the notification that you missed.
Click MORE SETTINGS. (The app in question will display.)
Ensure "Show Notifications" is enabled.
Allow Sound, Vibration, LED.
Below Notification Categories, press on one of the notification sub-categories:
Ensure "Show Notifications" is enabled for the sub-category. Change "Importance" to Default or High. (If it is "LOW", the other options are disabled.)
Change the notificaiton SOUND, Vibration, LED as desired.
If the missing notification isn't appearing in the status bar or if you want to fix the problem with other apps, you will have go to SETTINGS | NOTIFICATIONS and find the app yourself.
tried all the above...still does not work
Today: Poco X3 PRO + MIUI 12.5.1 and still the same problem. How could it be broken for so long? Maybe no one cares
