Hi, I tried plugin my Pocophone to ethernet through a USB c to A adapter and then a USB to ethernet one. I was hoping to be able to connect myself to the LAN network like that. It should work, except it didn't. A friend tried with a Galaxy A series phone and it worked, so the problem is with my phone and not the adapter.
Before anyone starts shouting at me, yes I followed what I could find on Google, that is Settings>Additionnal Settings>Developer Options>Select USB configuration and set it to RNDIS(USB Ethernet). Except when you choose that option, it just does not register it and stays on whatever it was before.
Audio source and MIDI don't register either. And changing options won't always work the first time.
So... anyone has a solution to plug my phone to ethernet?
It does not work on my phone too(Pocophone, miui 10 global beta rom). I have an C-type lan adapter, but when I plug in the lan port it does not work, regardless of what I do with developer options. Is there anyone who knows an app to use ethernet?
i think u can try it from developer options ==> networking ==> select usb configuration ==>RNDIS

The first screenshot is of my first post and ooh... I already tried what you said... I find it a bit stupid not to read more than the title and see that the *solution* and the exact steps to recreate the issue are listed.
The second screenshot shows that RNDIS is no longer a visible option at all in this menu in MIUI 10. So I have no idea what you're talking about.
I have read it might be a limitation of the USB 2.0 port Xiaomi uses.
But i got this. i'm still on Oreo rom 10.0.4.0

Yes, but once again, as I say in my original post, the option was there but did not actually work. Did you try turning off WiFi, Bluetooth and 4G and just connect via rj45 adaptor to the internet ?

Yes. That didn't solve the problem. I also tried turning on Airplane Mode, but It didn't work also.
Also, there was no RNDIS on select usb configuration. Probably because I updated to beta rom.

Well it doesn't work for me. How did you manage to do that?
Hmm.....
There is a simillar post on https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6-edge/general/enabling-ethernet-usb-otg-t3220476
I wonder it works on pocophone too. Is there somebody who can try it?(I want to do this myself but it's my main phone and I can't risk it.)
I'm having the same issue, got a USB type C to RJ 45 adaptor, doesn't connect. I checked with a third party app and saw that the adapter was detected, however I didn't get any internet. I tried all the usual stuff (turning off WiFi, turning on airplane mode, etc). So anybody got a solution?
Solution for huawei? On Samsung work fine

I'm sure there is, but wouldn't be easier to use bluetooth or wifi connection for that?

Do you mean use the Hero "tethered" as a modem for the computer? If so the answer (at least for UK Heros) is yes.
First of all make sure you have HTC Sync on your computer. Then do the following:
1 Make sure your phone’s data connection is turned on.
2. Connect the phone to the computer using the USB cable.
3. Press HOME > MENU, and then tap Settings > Wireless controls.
4. Select the Mobile network sharing check box.
@peterc10, I think the OP means the opposite (ie. tethering the Hero to a computer via USB), but I'm not sure.
Certainly, putting it on your wireless network (or getting one) would be an easier option, and it wouldn't require any cables. As a bonus, you can use your home internet from all round the house with the device.
@schlagg, any reason the wireless suggestion wouldn't work. Personally, I think it would be a lot easier to set up.

I wasn't sure either, hence my first question. I don't know whether you can do it the other way around, and I have wifi at home so don't need to anyway.
I guess we will have to wait for the OP to tell us which they meant.

just being curious
my wifi connection works well ...
but sometimes, i manage to go to some friends who don't have wifi
with my previous winmo, it was possible without any configuration, so just wondering if its the same here
i was actually wondering about the same thing..i dont have a wifi router and i dont think i'll be getting one soon anw since it wont "work" on my house... we have multiple floors and we prefer cables kinda
anw can i access the internet through USB?
No, this is not possible. The USB hardware in the Hero is that of a USB Slave (or USB Device, like a printer or camera.) In order for it to get internet access from this port, it would have to be set up as a USB Host, like your computer is. If you 'adb shell' into your phone and run "ls /dev/" you won't see any USB devices there.
If I'm wrong, I apologize, but I'm 99% sure this is the case.
EDIT: I think the best option would be to get a USB Bluetooth dongle for your computer. You can get one for like $15. Maybe less.

Nope. Quote from manual
"The phone supports the following Bluetooth profiles: Headset, Handsfree, A2DP, and AVRCP."
AFAIK none of those will enable you to use the computer as a modem. The first two are self explanatory. A2DP allows movement of stereo music files. AVRCP stands for "Audio/Video Remote Control Profile" which allows your phone to act as a remote control
Hello guys,
I'm sorry if the reply to my question was already posted by I was unable to find it here or through google search.
I'm new to the Android world so this might be very easy to achieve although I was unable to find it.
I'm trying to connect my SGS2 stock KE7 to the internet through my PC. I wanted to connect the phone with the data cable to a usb port on my laptop and then route all the traffic. I went through the options but couldn't find anythign that could achieve this.
Can someone, please, give me some pointers?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Just go in to wi-fi settings and set up a hotspot. Your phone now works as a "wireless router/modem" and your computer should detect your wi-fi hotspot created by the phone
I thought Wifi/usb Tethering was to allow other devices to connect to the internet through your phone.
computer -> phone -> internet
And I want to achieve the opposite, Connecting to the internet with my phone by going through a laptop/workstation.
phone -> computer -> internet

This is a bit off-topic, and I may have misunderstood your question, but this might be what you are looking to do -
1. Setup your computer in wifi adhoc sharing mode, so that any other wireless device can find that network.
2. Use your phone as the wifi device to connect to that network.
This is pretty easy - just setup a wifi network.
Many videos available on youtube -
Again, this is just one way of doing what I think you want to do-

What if wireless is not available?
Is it possible to reverse tether a phone to use a PC's internet connection via a USB cable?

Don't think that you can use the network over the usb cable it is not designed for that, may be someone else may know a bit more.
Theoretically a proxy agent app on pc should be able to do what you want above, over the usb cable, but it is better to use a wireless modem instead.

Ok, thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I often find myself in the situation where I do not have phone signal or wireless available :-/
Maybe I should invest in a wireless access point to carry around with me!
Yeah, it's a pity. There are a couple of scenarios where this would be useful for me.
Thanks anyway for replying to my question.
AFAIK this a HTC sense only feature as i remember having this on my HTC desire
What I use is an Edimax Wireless USB adapter - EW-7711UAn. The hardware works really well, the software works well once it is set-up, but configuring XP to share its network connection through this is a bit tricky
This may help, I am sure there is similar for Vista Windows 7 around on the Internet

Heres the explanation of how to do it (sorry it's in Portuguese, but google translator will do the trick!

You should post that question under the Deepshining ROM topic. Or even search there to find an answer.
Will do then. I did do research as i did recall people having issues but i couldn't find those posts this time around.
Question: USB Wifi - how do you get it to work??
=================================================
I just tried the newest Android RemixOS as of Jan 25 2017. I read some of what you all have here and I was very impressed with your knowledge, however I have no idea what some of this stuff means even though I can regedit.exe and toss code around in C# and VB.NET and use Framework like a boss. Meaning, if I had the exact steps to fix my problem that would be GREAT!
* My problem, I only have a USB Wifi, my USB keboard and mouse work fine but RemixOS Marshmello will not work together. It just shows the Wifi off and when I click the toggle button to turn it on it just scans. Advanced under Wifi has nothing I can work with.
I heard that the problem -used- to be that USB was not supported at all but my keyboard and mouse work. So is there anything I can do to make the USB Wifi work, I have no internal Wifi for this computer -or- is that the best solution, just get an internal Wifi board that supports 2.4Ghz (which I read somewhere was the other problem, only 2.4Ghz is supported). Also I have no access to my Landlords Wifi so I am unable to play around with it.
Follow up Question: What is rooting and why is it better and why doesn't RemixOS just make everything rooted (since it sounds better and everyone wants RemixOs this way)? Rooted sounds to me like its, "written in stone" but it sounds like it makes it so people can get access to things?
** I already installed RemixOS Jan 2017 version if I have to Root do I uninstall RemixOS first, if so how do you install it from your PC if it made your system into a dual boot?
** Or do you all mean uninstall RemixOS then edit the ISO and put the mentioned code for init() into the init.sh file? is that the Trick?
*** Additionally for anyone that doesn't understand what I said above cuz I am sure I am clear as Mud on my questions. My Wifi is a stick, that is attached to a USB cord that then goes into the Back of my computer into a USB 3.0 port. I have no internal Wifi board and the motherboard is 6 years old and doesn't have much integreated into it except sound, maybe grafx VGA but I installed a RX 780 for a good graphics card.
*** I also forgot to mention it dual boots just fine, just no internet. Thx!
same here, im using TL-WN723N_V3 and wifi always keep searching.

Generally, wifi adapter connected using USB should work. It maybe a problem with particular adapter type not having driver in kernel or something like that. You can check output of "dmesg" command if it says something about the adapter. For example I'm using quite cheap usb wifi adapter Tenda (W311U+) and it works directly without any intervention.

I don't think that will work. When you tether your 4G connection, Chromecast will connect to the Wi-Fi hot-spot that is created by the phone, while your Mate 10 pro is still connected in 4G.
So they are not connected on the same network as it's required for the Chromecast to work.

I have an old Chromecast here, so i will try, but i don't think it will work.
Maybe it would work with this configuration :
1) Mate 10 pro used for tethering, creating a Wi-Fi hot-spot
2) Chromecast connected to the Wi-Fi hot-spot
3) Laptop (or other device) connected to the same Wi-Fi Hot-spot
But honestly, i never tested this kind of configuration.

i solve today!
1) open google home on android phone, tap on chromecast settings, disconnect from wifi;
2) on android phone, let's active hotspot with wpa2 password;
3) re-open google home, add device; tap on chromecast, connect chromecast to the wifi hotspot net.
Now you can stream phone on mobile net, directly on chromecast.
