After installing a small update of at least 300 mb it seems like I cannot find hotspot anywhere at all. Gone from settings gone from status bar. Tried different hotspot apps but when they redirect me to hotspot settings the page is blanked. Currently I am running android 8.0 sprint and before the update it worked just fine. I need to say that I do not use sprint sim card and other settings works fine i can make calls and use lte just fine so i can say it is a unlocked version. Please advise on what to do.

Yesterday, I successfully updated to android 2.1. I have confirmed that the APN information is correct and that there is sufficient network coverage. I have activated data in the settings - yet I cannot seem to get a data connection. Unless I activate WIFI, neither facebook nor mail will update, and I also cannot open websites in several browsers (opera, fennec, standard browser, dolphin).
I also don't get an icon for 3g or hsdpa connection.
Anyone having the same problem? Or even better... a solution?
Best,
-Mike

I would say it's your carriers networks are down. I had a similar problem but the 3G symbol was there and it just would download anything. I then disabled juice defender and it works perfectly.
If you are running the nordic kit this seems to be a fairly common problem. One of the guys over at phandroid fixed this by going to the SIM Toolkit and downloading settings, but I did not have this option. I was able to get it working temporarily by fiddling with the APN settings, but then like you it just failed to work any more.
I have flashed back to 1.6 and am now going to update with generic uk firmware.
So - I tried the Sony Ericsson option in the settings (topmost menu entry) to automatically download settings, I tried setting them manually, I tried auto-configuring via the apn-options... nothing worked...
then, suddenly, without having changed anything - I get a 3G signal. Seems to have sorted itself out for whatever reason. Will update in case anything changes.

Worked for me.
I just flashed to Diet ICS 7.11.12 ROM. Everything works fine but I noticed I can't access any data over 3G or 4G. Any ideas? Wireless data works just fine. I can make phone call and text ok without wireless access.
Thanks!

Is this in the wrong forum?
When I go from Settings --> Wireless and network --> More Settings --> Mobile Networks --> Network Operators
There is nothing listed except for "Default setup" which is greyed out and non-selectable.
Should something be listed here? I am searching on xda and google in the meantime, but noone has anything like my issue that I can tell.
Thanks
No one on XDA has had this issue? Really? I have been using custom ROMS on my Captivate for over a year. I have ICS on it right now. Just picked up the SGIII, immediately rooted it using the "No Tripping Flash Counter" method, then installed diet ICS. Went without a hitch easy peasy. BUT I can only access data over wireless.
Any ideas?
I have a rooted / unlocked i717 that I recently flashed to the T-Mobile rom and ICS Blaze modem outlined in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30335211
Everything went fine and overall I've been happy except for my phone works a little slower and my battery discharges slightly faster. I noticed today however that I cannot use my phone as a hotspot with the Wi-Fi hotspot tool enabled nor FoxFi. I can see the access point, it will ask for a key, but never connect. When I was using stock AT&T GB before (on T-Mobile as well), I was always successful with FoxFi. It worked well.
Is this an issue with using a T-Mobile rom on my i717? Should I change my rom to the AT&T official ICS and then flash the blaze modem or is it time to visit a custom rom? I use my phone heavily for work, so I don't want to experiment with anything JB at this time. I need something rock steady. I wanted to add that I needed to move from the stock GB because I was getting a annoying reboot issue monthly that made me reset/reload the phone each time. Thanks!

Enter that code into the dialer and turn off "wifi sleep"...
It may just fix your issue ..g

Nope, no luck there. I did notice that under FoxFI, the SSID no longer appeared to my laptop after entering that code. I have noticed that the T-Mobile Tethering and Portable Hotspot tool that is part of the rom does allow my laptop to connect to it but I don't get an IP address. I've been searching around and I have yet to find anyone with a similar issue. I'd hate to go back to GB at this point, but I may have to this weekend if there is no answer as I have a business trip next week
Thanks for your help though!
I did some more reading with some similar issues with the GSII and read about a app called "Wireless Tether for Root Users".
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether&feature=more_from_developer#?t=W251bGwsMSwxLDEwMiwiY29tLmdvb2dsZWNvZGUuYW5kcm9pZC53aWZpLnRldGhlciJd
It works great so far. I am relieved.
Just thought I would throw out a question. As a KitKat user with a custom ROM I enjoyed pretty seamless WiFi Calling capabilities on my Note 3. I recently loaded the AOKP Oreo ROM and happened to go to a place that didn't have signal (I must admit that isn't very hard to do in my area) and although I loaded Google Voice and could use that number on the local WiFi in the building to make and receive text and calls, I was curious if there was a way to load the native WiFi calling Sprint offers which lets me use my Sprint phone number. I tried downloading the Sprint WiFi APK v. 1 and v.2 but they didn't seem to work.
Anyone else have any thoughts? I am using Magisk now and even tried an old app that supposedly provides a direct way to activate the WiFi calling abilities but no luck there either.
I have my KK system backed up on TB and tried restoring the WiFi Calling app from there but it didnt seem to want to load either. Perhaps I am missing a companion app that needs to run as well?
All suggestions will be entertained!
Dave
Hey I just reverted back to stock from Cherish OS, kept having way too many issues with the ROM rebooting or just freezing. I managed to get hotspot working on Cherish by editing the build prop to include:
net.tethering.noprovisioning=true
then pushing adb shell: settings put global tether_dun_required 0
Was working fine minus the crashes.
Now going back to stock I havnt had any unexpected crashes but I cannot seem to get the tethering to work anymore using magiskhide prop config. Does anyone know what else needs to be done to get wifi tethering working again? It looks like the DUN APN setting on my custom APN does not stick around after saving it, I dont know if it was enabled on Cherish OS somehow or what the difference between the two set ups would realistically be.
Edit:

"If you're rooted, try using VPN Hotspot: https://github.com/Mygod/VPNHotspot/releases"
Just enabled wlan0.
Still looking for a solution, If someone can point me to where I might need to start to resolve this I would appreciate it.
Ex; does it need a custom keneral? or Radio?
What is the limiting factor, that doesnt allow the connected device to get internet?

I can confirm the linked app works and replicates the built in Wifi Hotspot feature. I have it running on a T Mobile, bootloader unlocked, rooted, stock firmware, and on Android 11. Worked with my desktop, other phone, and Smart TV. I do not have it as a part of my plan. No VPN, port, or other nonsense to setup on the client to get it working. Just put in the WiFi spot password and off you go!.
Thanks for the link! I was never able to find a way to get the built in one working with out an app of some kind. I have no idea what would be needed to patch the factory hotspot to get it working without an app.

Great. BTW, I think the reason why it's recommended to use with the VPN (such as AdGuard) is to hide the tether usage.
I was a bit skeptical, but after I enabled the wlan0 toggle it worked! thank you soo much I have been struggling with this for a while.

Something to note here I wasn't using Adguard and had no issues with the hotspot vpn app. I wasn't using the "Temporary Hotspot" toggle in the app either. Using the wlan0 option gave me Internet on any device I tried while on T Mobile service / Towers. I went out of town and I'm now roaming on US Cellular indicated on my notification bar. This hotspot method stopped working for me. I could connect to the hotspot but no internet. After some research I found using Adguard does resolves this as you mentioned. In the VPN hotspot app you must choose "tun0" as the upstream interface.
