H830 (TMobile) S/W 20n, root available? - LG G5 Questions & Answers

Hi I recently bought a new G5 H830 (TMO version) off eBay, accidentally I let it upgrade the software and so now it is H830 20n. (I believe it came with 20m).
I searched and found most posts say this version cannot be rolled back and root.
Is this version still rootable?
Many thanks,

You should try to unlock the bootloader with the official LG method, and if you can unlock the bootloader and then install TWRP, you can also root the phone with SuperSU or Magisk.
T-Mobile H830 should be supported, but you have to check if LG allows bootloader unlocking for your specific IMEI.

Not all the H830 have the same possibility to be unlocked. On earlier versions of the bootloader "fastboot oem unlock" was enough, for newer versions, depending on the market (Asia, Europe, phones for exposition in the stores) LG allows or not the unlocking. Have you already tried the official method with your IMEI?

How to Unlock Bootloader on LG V10 - post by droidviews.com

Dear all,
I found a Unlock Bootloader on LG V10 tutorial, has anyone try this to Unlock Bootloader on F600K/L/S Variants?
http://www.droidviews.com/how-to-unlock-bootloader-on-lg-v10/
Thanks!
Did you even look in this subforum? There are probably four or five threads on the bootloader unlock. It only works on the T-Mobile H901 variant because it has an unlocked bootloader. It will not work on any other variant (the int'l unlocked variant that hasn't been released yet may support it, but we won't know for awhile). I hate to sound mean, but there are plenty of threads covering this topic.

Tried, and no cant boot to bootloader or fastboot.
Only other function I have been able to access is download mode.
Did you follow the instructions here on xda? That works,of course depending on where you purchased phone. Verizon isn't working.

Unlocked bootloader on H932. Can I use TWRP 3.2.1?

Have a carrier unassigned H932. I've managed to unlock the bootloader, but I'm not sure if the TWRP recovery used for other variants will work. Anyone have any idea as to whether it will work?

Ha! You mean a T-Mobile H932? If you can get TWRP to install that is indeed the correct version for all the V30 variants.
How do you plan to install it? You have no fastboot flash commands.
Ease-up. I made a mistake. If it's true than I guess I'm SOL. Thanks for your feedback...

All V30/V30+/V30S variants in the world can be bootloader unlocked and rooted -- except for T-Mobile H932.
Sorry for jumping, it's just there is a prominent 144 page thread on how the H932 can NOT be rooted (yet), and you opened a new thread about rooting it.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/progress-root-twrp-roms-achieved-t3690577/page144
I hope TWRP can be installed someday and it can be rooted.

LG G5 VS98730a custom rom

I just upgraded my LG G5 to Oreo and want to root using a custom rom. Does anyone know if there has been an official custom Oreo rom released for the LG G5 Verizon model and if not when one might be available. I would like to mention that I am a new to rooting.
If you want to root your phone or install a custom rom, you need to unlock the bootloader first.
Look at this thread: https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g5/development/official-european-lg-g5-h850-bootloader-t3363040
if the LG website doesn't give you the unlock.bin file, you can't root and not even install a custom rom.

How do I unlock the bootloader and where can I find the unlock.bin file on LG's website?
Verizon locks the bootloader and you can't unlock it so no twrp or root or custom rom

bootloader status

Hello guys,
I just got this device and I have a few questions about how to go about claiming warranty after unlocking the bootloader. I have not done this yet, I am asking so I can make an educated decision.
1 Is it possible to relock the bootloader?
2 How is the status of the bootloader displayed once relocked? Does it give any clue that it was previously unlocked?
Basically, I want to know if I can experiment with rooting the phone, trying some custom ROMs and switch back to a factory state like nothing happened in case I need to RMA it for any reason.
Cheers

1 Is it possible to relock the bootloader?
Yes, it's possible. There are a few threads explaining how. I've done it, from what I remember you want to be on a completely stock kdz. I didn't even boot it to enable dev options or anything, just use the key combo to get to fastboot and then do unlock.
2 How is the status of the bootloader displayed once relocked? Does it give any clue that it was previously unlocked?
Yes, it's displayed, but only if you do 'fastboot getvar all'. And in that output it will indicated the number of times it's been unlocked. Otherwise, you wouldn't know.

Thank you so much for your answer! I went ahead and the phone is now rooted with LineageOS. Cheers ^^
@rzarectha You didn't mention what your device was originally, and I didn't think to include this info, so in case you don't know, and for posterity...
Many don't realize (I didn't), that only 1 V30 variant kdz is available, the US998. The LS998, H931, H932, etc etc, are NOT available.
What that means is (I think obviously), while one can relock the bootloader using an US998 kdz (as they have the fastboot commands), you won't find a different variant kdz to then flash the now locked device back to (what for some is) stock (if stock was anything other than a US998).
I was surprised by this, but there it is. Had to sell an H931 indicating it was converted to US998, as there is no way to get any other stock kdz.
Cheers

Only Sprint LS998 KDZ and AT&T H931 KDZ are not available. All others are. Verizon VS996, U.S. T-mobile H932, Canada H933, EU H930, all the various H930DS KDZ (Hong Kong, Australia, India, etc) and other variants. are all available. I have threads posting latest KDZ for H930, H930DS, H933, VS996 -- besides US998.
You can find what you need also at LG-Firmwares.com
Here's Verizon VS996, for instance:

Here's Canada H932:

Here's India H930DS:

Yes, that is true because AT&T doesn't release KDZ for their H931. They only let customers have updates via FOTA. Sprint is the other carrier who does that. This is why LS998 and H931 owners who do not use those two carriers have to Frankenstein their phones to a carrier unlocked firmware like US998. Prior to WTF method, the choice was US998, AS998, VS996 and even H933 -- to convert to those variants to get updates. But after WTF came out, the obvious choice became US998 as it also has the necessary fastboot flash commands for bootloader unlock.
There's no way to convert back to LS998 or H931 unless you have an Octopus box or something like that -- and you are a dealer may have access to non-public firmware. So, once you convert LS998 or H931 to US998, then unlock bootloader... all you can do to relock the bootloader is stay on that firmware where you have fastboot flash commands. You can't use Dev Patched LGUP to then convert back to LS998 or H931, as there's no KDZ available.
Most other variants outside North America already have fastboot flash commands, like H930, H930D, H030G, H930DS. So, they don't need to convert to anything, and they have pre-July 2018 KDZ they can use.

Uh oh, I did not. I did notice a lot of abnormal behavior.
Input lag, random reboots and pretty strong battery drain.
I will go back to stock, update to latest and then give lineage another try.
Thanks a lot to everyone that replied here :victory:

Well you updated for nothing.
Now you have to temporarily downgrade back to early Oreo. After bootloader unlock, then you can update back to Pie.
Root Sticky everyone should read:
ROOT YOUR V30!
https://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-v30/how-to/root-v30-t3927154
Free advice: NEVER upgrade until you know root requisites. In this case you can still do the TEMPORARY downgrade back to Oreo for bootloader unlock with WTF exploit. But what if you couldn't?
You should check before updating to new OS, not after.

Same TWRP for Pie as for Oreo. V30 TWRP dev says it's stable and we're sticking with it.
See WTF instructions for bootloader unlock and root.
Read the Root Sticky, linked above. It has link for WTF bootloader unlock.
What variant do you have? Full Pie KDZ has been released for several variants, but others still waiting.
