Notifications delayed/not showing up when screen is off - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

I have a pocophone on global MIUI 9, and whenever a notification is supposed to pop up while my phone is asleep, it doesn't. It shows up when I turn the screen on instead. The app I'm testing with is IFTTT.
I've already disabled MIUI optimizations, disabled battery optimization for that app, allowed all permissions, allowed autoboot, and turned on all notification options. Still happens.
Any way to fix or do I just have to wait for custom roms to fix Xiaomi's mess of a notification system? Anyone know if MIUI 10 fixes it?

Go to lock screen and password, check wake lock screen for notifications. That should resolve this

It's already on.
I don't mean that the notifications show up but don't wake the screen, I mean that they don't show up at ALL until I wake it myself, like the app is frozen.

Have you put an aggressive battery management setting in place? Or is the battery saver mode on? That might delay syncs

For me turning off non interactive mode in battery settings did the job. Since I disabled it all notifications are popping up as they should.

Sorry for reviving a dead q&a thread. Its actually xiaomi fault. Got 3 of them device and all reacted the same way. No way you can fix it either with custom roms nor kernel. The only way to fix this is to install SOD killer and let it run. Youll get your notification instantly.

Ahhh!!! This had been driving me crazy! Sometimes I'd be alerted to a new SMS; other times the phone wouldn't beep/vibrate, flash the LED or produce a notification.
I've just disabled this setting:
Settings -> Battery & performance -> Scenes -> Non-interactive mode
Non-interactive mode
Don't light up screen for notifications, turn off
LED light, fingerprint sensor, and touch controls
to save battery when MIUI detects you aren't
using your device.

Did it fix the problem for you? It didn't for me.... I have this issue with Gmail notifications and nothing seems to solve it. I'm on MIUI 11 Android 10 from Xiaomi.eu, and the worst thing is that it didn't happen on Android 9... So things went wrong for me after the update.. Any idead, anyone?

i started having the same issue with miui 10 onwards and never with miui 9 or non-miui custom roms.

Has anyone tried the Adaptive Notifications function from Developer Options in Android 10? Does it change anything/fix the MIUI notifications management?

Yes -- it seems to have fixed the problem. I don't use GMail, though.
Actually, I've missed a few alert sounds (far far fewer than before). I'm not sure if it's just that I didn't notice, or if leaving the app open and the screen on (sometimes?) prevents the alert sound...? Probably just me!

I can't see that setting in the MIUI 10 developer options. I've searched around, but I don't think it exists in MIUI...

Good for you man! It seems to have helped a little bit for me as well, especially with messenger notifications, but the Gmail ones are still delayed
I think I can live with it for now.
Adaptive notifications have been introduced in Android 10 so you need that and MIUI 11 apparently.

brightness is automatically reduced for certain apps

Hi all,
This is my first Huawei phone. I noticed that brightness of the screen will reduce (darken) for some apps, eg fb, chrome, dialer, even the auto brightness is unchecked. Do you experience the same?
It's a feature to prolong battery, all Huawei phones has it.

Yeah ok, thanks.
How do I get rid of the "feature"?
It's making the phone completely rubbish to use.
If I turn "Auto brightness" ON, the phone adjusts the brightness according to the lighting conditions around it (the screen does NOT go dim when launching apps).
If I turn "Auto brightness" OFF, the phone DIMS the screen when launching apps.
Come on HUAWEI!!! If I want the screen to auto adjust, I will set it to auto adjust.
I turned off auto brightness, toggled brightness to max and used the chrome browser. The brightness remains constant. No issues for me.

After update today to Oreo:
Same Problem with Huawei Mate 9 Update MHA-L29 8.0.0.361(C431)
It's A BUG not a feature.
After rebooting it`s okay and after standby and on again same problem again!
With Android 7 no problem!!!
Hi,
I had the same problem. In developer options I had "Force GPU rendering" enabled and that caused the issue.
Just disable it. Reboot the phone and it should be ok. When it does not help, "Restore default settings" in the developer options and reboot again.

Automatic Brightness Issues..
I have similar issue with the one wrote here in xda - https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-10/help/brightness-automatically-reduced-apps-t3697589
That is even with the auto brightness ticked-off and smart screen feature also off, the screen will automatically dim after few seconds I opened the Facebook app for example.
I tried opening the Hi-Care app but it doesn't has this problem.
Can Huawei fix this very annoying bug soon?
I believe majority of users would not affected by this because they set their brightness less than 50%. But for those who prefer bright screen like me, this is extremely annoying feature even it said to help prolong battery life!
Thank you.
Would a custom ROM fix this issue ? Only reason I would root this phone ! Hopefully get one soon now that we have a custom recovery.
Can you try exempting from battery optimization? Search for "Configure Apps" in settings, go to special access, and then "Exempt from battery optimization"
I personally don't notice this issue, so I can't test it.
Try to disable "Increase Readability in Sunlight" at developer options
Same exact problem here on my Mate 10 Pro - first noticed it a couple days ago, after i had the phone for a day or two. It's a very slight change - I mainly notice it in Chrome and Facebook. Some apps do it, but not all. Basically, when you launch the app, the whites are normal brightness according to your set brightness, then within half a second, it dims just slightly - like 10-20%. Then if you press the home button, you can see a slight change again to normal brightness as the app fades out. Not the end of the world but still a bit annoying. I never noticed this with my Mate 9 (which didn't get Oreo yet). Would be nice to have a fix for this.

Just compared to my son's mate 10 Pro and his screen is actually brighter on the Facebook app and all our settings are the same so must be different panel.

Bro, Switch off everything in Setting>>Smart Assistance.
Make everything to off, surely it will help you.
The "adaptive brightness" is bugged and dims the screen on certain applications, regardless of what options you have turned on or off. Huawei confirmed it is an EMUI issue. Who knows if they'll actually resolve it as they don't see it as a major issue.
It was major enough for me that I sold my Huawei Mate 10 after a few days.
i dont have it in 8.0.0.137. bug was present in 8.0.0.128. atleast for me. there is maybe sligt dim for like 5% in music sometimes and thats it as far as i can tell
Same issue here, tried many different fixes and attempts to disable it, still happens in all apps/games. It is noticeable immediately once the app/game has been launched.
It feels like a 10-15% decrease in brightness. Hopefully this is fixed in the next update.
Ps. I previously had the Mate 9, had the very same problem!!!

MiUI change my mind.

I got my Poco last week with bootloader open and right away started with custom roms. I first put Pixel Experience (like i had on my RN5pro and it was great) but i find it doesn't run as well on poco.
Then i went to Nitrogen and now im on LOS16 for the past couple days getting aroun 8-9hrs SOT.
My question is was i too quick to change to custom? anything im missing from MIUI? I stayed with MIUI on RN5 for a while but got pissed because all notifications were late(if the every came at all), i used Sakis debloat tool so dint have bloatware but still felt spied on.
Anyway should i flash MIUI? Goals are long SOT, moderate gaming (hour pubg every now n then). Change my mind.
I'm actually happy with MIUI10, kept the bloat apps too, but it's obviously up to your preferences.
RAM and security management is quite aggressive.
My only real problem is notifications being really badly presented. Though I've just received my Mi Band which shows notifications and is really useful.
No harm in trying it.

you will miss faceunlock via ir camera - afaik only miui (+ miui mods like miui eu / globe ) offer support for it since its a custom manufacture introduced feature and afaik not open source.
iam currently on miui eu (honestly the only mod i tryed) + first android but i don´t really see ads or anything else thats bugs me.

Can you describe the notifications? i remember my RN5 with miui 10 even I wouldnt always get on lockscreen notifications and then if i open the phone the notifications disappear (i did everything, enable auto start, background, lock screen, everything). I would even test it with my gfs phone and it would take like 5-10 mins to get a fb notification or something. Whatsapp always worked though. I mean if theres no notifications whats the point.

I haven't actually missed many notifications at all. If you bring down the notification bar they can be viewed. One app where notifications have never worked (even when removing all restrictions) is my home security system but that's an issue with the way the app handles notifications, it does work flawlessly on my Samsung devices though so definitely an issue with MIUI.
My other issue with MIUI is that it doesn't always display the icons in the upper left of the notification bar and only shows them for a few seconds. I believe they are working on this for a future update.
Not everything shows on the lock screen unless you enable it in the settings under "other permissions". That is actually a feature I like since I've only enabled lock screen notifications with specific apps. You may need to enable the permissions or disable the restrictions with certain apps.

Here's my perspective on MIUI 10...It is buggy!!! Below 3 issues are showstoppers for me:
1. Inconsistent notifications in lock screen.
2. DND doesn't work, infact i have no idea what implementation they have for it. I could only distinguish between loud and silent.
3. App permissions keeps resetting - I will have to re-enable permissions from time to time to use them.
After 6 months of MIUI bull**** for the first time in 4 years I am going to flash a custom ROM. Better stick to custom ROM, stock sucks although its aesthetically beautiful.
I'm fine with MIUI eu beta with custom kernel. I need system audio recording because I play and record games and split screen is better than aosp. Notification is fine for me I just disable MIUI battery savings per app that important. There is no best or worst it all depends on how you use your phone.
The best u will get between performance and bettery life its on miui rom i am on 9.1.7 i got 10+ of sot and if u like aosp the best is crdroid rom will give great battery lifr also but less performance in gaming side. In my off i use my phone all day keeping youtube playlist always on and alot of browsing and playing brawl stars on the end of the day i highly recommend u to give miui a try
For all of you having problems with notifications.. I guess I found a solution. At least, it works for me.
I always complained like you. Either late notifications or no notifications at all.
All that stuff is because of the aggressive standard-settings in the battery saving settings.
You go to settings -> battery -> choose apps -> select your app, you want to get notifications -> select no restrictions.
Ofcourse, you have to set autostart for those apps and setup the notifications importance to high/urgent.
You get the same battery life i guess, so feel free to do that stuff in the battery settings.
Hit thanks if it worked for you.
Some good point here! What about the Xiaomi. Eu rom ? How dire it compare to stock performance wise?

I own a RN5 too (Xiaomi.eu ROM) and I did that and I started getting all the notifications.
eBay notifications (for example) came literally never.
After the stuff I meantioned above, everything started to work as it should.
My Pocophone arrived 1 hour ago and I'm setting it up right now and will to the same and report.
But since its MIUI 10 too (although Pie), it should work!

I am fine with Miui 10 global beta with Franco kernel and other root stuff. My Pocophone is a work phone and I don't trust the custom ROMs yet.
I also don't debloat, otherwise it's no longer a MIUI , but I freeze user or system apps I don't use. And the suggestion by another about using Battery saving section (and autostart) to manage Doze should help in not missing notifications. I never miss notifications, but I don't use social apps, only normal calls, sms, GBWhatsApp.
MIUI is a personal taste. I've tried other ROMs on my other phones, they all are similar. Most of their features I can have using apps, and even better, while staying with MIUI global beta, which is updated constantly compared to stable.
I disable Miui optimization in developer options though, a habit of mine since the early days of MIUI
I also like EMUI by Huawei. It is so similar to MIUI on my Huawei
P.S. I don't enable notifications on lock screen, I don't want to answer some immediately. I have configured contacts that I must answer quickly to have their own notification sound.

MIUI 11 - Ambient Display Breathing Light [BUG]

So it would seem one of the features of miui 11 which I looked forward to is not as effective as I hoped. That is the pulsing breathing light.
When the screen is locked, the ambient display brightness dims after a few seconds. If and when a notification comes, the brightness remains dim and you can hardly notice the pulsing effect or even the arrival of the notification for that matter.
I would assume the screen would brighten up and the pulse would be more prominent but unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case.
Yes it's pretty useless feature notification dont seem work very well since getting 11

Got miui 11 on my k20 pro yesterday, feels quite nice but the notification animation (rhythm) lights up continuously when, for example, the Google maps notification is active. Feature is quite cool but this makes it rather useless/annoying.
Got the MIUI 11 few minutes ago.
I thought the ambient display would work like the old Moto X, just showing something when I receive a notification or raise up the phone.
Showing all the time like this doesn't rises the risk of burn in? Or am I missing some option?

AOD only works with some apps. Whatsapp and Gmail work. Textra and Outlook do not. It has never worked properly on MIUI. It's pretty useless like this. xiaomi.eu devs add each app (by request) to the AOD. I don't know why Xiaomi have such a poor AOD.

Question MIUI floating windows not working

I have a little bit of issue with floating windows on Redmi Note 10. If I disable MIUI optimisation, they don't work at all. When optimisation is enabled, I can normally use them, but always on display is limited for only 10 seconds. I've recently updated to MIUI 12.5.1 (RKGEUXM) and I thought, that it would fix the issue (the issue was already on 12.0.4). I also found out, that if you turn the optimisation on, then enable some app to floating window mode and then turn the MIUI optimisation off, then it will work, until I restart the device. Is there any way to enable both floating windows and have unlimited time for always on display and still be able to freely restart the device? Or any other way to enable unlimited always on display without turning off the optimisation? Please help.
I think You should definitely keep MIUI optimisation ON.
Not that it's a so good feature, but because it is so tightly linked to MIUI system that you will always get issues if it's disabled.
That said, you can disable Xiaomi's AOD and use one of the playstore apps that provides permanent AOD. Always on AMOLED could possibly be what you need

Always-On Display Keeps Turning Off

Hi guys,
I have tries quite many things, but at night, my always on display keeps turning off after few seconds - which I dont want.
What I have:
Xiaomi Mi 10, Android 11, MiUI 12.5.2 - Original, Not Rooted.
What I tried:
Battery Optimization and Ultra Battery Optimization is turned off
Digital Wellbeing should not turn off always on display.
Removed and updated Digital Wellbeing app
Plugged the mobile to electricity overnight
And still always on is turning off.
I am quite "desperate" . Can you help please? Is it turning off for you? What can I try more?
Thank you.
under developer options, all the way down, you can find "Turn on MIUI optimisation" and turn it off. Some other stuff will be less than optimal (I don't know what stuff, but you do get a warning), but you get your permanent always on display.
