OTA updates after unlocking BL, getting TWRP and root? - Xiaomi Poco F1 Questions & Answers

Will I be able to update phone with stock update app after steps which I mentioned in the topic (of course being on the stock ROM)? Or will it brick my phone/lose root etc.?

[Q] Flashing blob on Prime

Just curious about the Primeeval Stock Rom
after seeing this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24667031&postcount=18
i was wondering if it is possible to flash this on a Prime that is not Rooted or unlocked?
the thread suggest that you cant have an unlocked Prime, but do i need it to be rooted?
Otherwise is there a way to install CWM without root and without unlocking?
I only ask because after rooting my prime under 9.4.2.15 i realized i had the serial unknown error, so i could not do an OTA update to 9.4.2.21, after a manual update to 9.4.2.21 i now have a serial, but rootkeeper could not restore root, I NOW know that you cant do manual updates and still keep root.

In order to flash a custom ROM onto your Prime, you need the bootloader to be unlocked. You do not need root to do it as there are fastboot methods for both rooted an unrooted Primes.
thanks, although i think they mention on that thread that its a stock rom that wont work on unlocked devices.
i guess you have to be rooted instead.

Upgrading to Lollipop Firmware

My phone is currently Rooted with TWRP installed, and im running gpe 4.4.4 stock rooted rom from the android development forums. Now, considering im s-on and have no computer at home at the moment, I was trying to figure out a way to update my firmware so that i can test out and flash one of these new lollipop roms. If I flash using twrp an at&t stock rom such as "Stock AT&T 1.58 Deodexed" from the AT&T forum,
1. Will I receive an OTA from at&T
2. Is it safe to accept the OTA
3. Will it update the firmware properly, so that i may flash a lollipop firmware.
My guess is that the answer to #2 will probably be a no. My phone is originally an at&t device btw.
Thanks for any help.
Most OTA's will fail simply cause you have a custom recovery.
If you can afford $25 just gain S-OFF using "Sunshine"
You need to be on stock ROM and stock recovery to install an OTA. Root is okay, and bootloader unlocked is okay ("okay" meaning the OTA will install, but you will lose root).
The stock ROM is normally odexed, so I don't think the deodexed will qualify as "stock" enough to allow the OTA to install (I'm thinking NO). The fastest way to return to stock ROM and recovery is probably by RUU (relock bootloader required for RUU).
Not sure what you mean by "safe" but as long as you meet the above conditions you will be able to receive and install OTAs. You will lose root as mentioned (but can easily just re-install custom recovery and root again). And your data should remain intact; although you should always backup important personal data, anyway.
But be aware there is currently no AT&T OTA that will update you to the current (3.x) firmware required for LP custom ROMs. The OTA for 4.4.4 is rumored for Dec. 29, but its already been delayed twice.
If you don't want to s-off, you will have to wait until 4.4.4 rolls out (to update the firmware). Or just s-off by sunshine and be done with it.

Currently on 32.1 (with root). Is updating to 32.2 OTA root-safe?

So I wrote a tutorial on the whole unlock bootloader, exploit, backup TA, root, DRM sign and flash back in April but now that the OTA is annoying me I'm not sure how to proceed.
Anyone had any luck with the OTA and keeping root or did you have to root, re-sign for DRM and re-flash using FlashTool ?

Easiest way to root and some questions.

So read this thread [Guide] Safe bootloader unlock, restore DRM, custom recovery, root, bootloader relock
Is this the easiest way to root as it appears complex(sorry not very technically minded).
Also once rooted will I be able to update the tablet or it becomes impossible please?

No, easiest way to root is to unlock bootloadrer and flash custom rom or root stock by flashing twrp, kernel, and supersu.
You need drm keys in case if you want to get back unrooted stock.so do you really need them? In order to restore drm functionality on rooted device, use universal drm restore patch.
With unlocked bootloder, to update custom, use twrp, to update stock, use flashtool.

Hello many thanks, did you follow the same guide I quoted in my initial post?

Unroot and relock bootloader in order to get OTA updates

Hi,
I'm using HD01BA (= EU version) with unlocked bootloader and root with Magisk. I understand that updating OOS or updating Magisk is quite annonying as there's no TWRP and as it needs specific precautions such as disabling Magisk modules and reinstalling them after updating.
Since I now barely use root, I think I would benefit more from being able to get OTA updates than having root. I'd like to know how to unroot - and relock bootloader if necessary - without bricking the phone.
Would I have to wipe everything ? Will unrooting enable OTA updates or do I need to relock bootloader as well ?
Thanks
