My moto Z is having a Screen on time of 1 hr 40 mins. max 2 hrs with 20 mins of browsing , 40 mins YouTube streaming 30 mins of pubg . it drains from 100-80% in like 10-15 mins. at times when it reaches 28% it'll shut down and indicate there's no battery left but when i plug in the charger it starts charging from 28%. I've formatted the phone , did the battery calibration and it works fine for 2 days with a terrible SOT, but after 2 days the same thing happens . worst is if i try opening snapchat below 45% the phone will turn off. what should i do?
Hi, i've got the same here. I dunno what to do too :/
Unfortunately I have the same issue. And, spoiler alert, it got worse every day. Now I can hardly open my device before it drains completely (I think the real capacity has been reduced to less than 10% of the original). If I unplug the charger battery percentage drops like it's a countdown.
My quick fix was to buy a Z2 Force. And made me feel like it's battery is lasting for ages. But I'm still interested in fixing my beloved Moto Z.
Is it possible that it's a software problem? The latest security update maybe? It's a bit strange that three of us got the same problem at the same time.

I believe it to be related to the most recent security update. My phone battery (and moto mod Turbo Power) were working fine until that update. Now phone drains quickly at start... shuts off at random intervals (with or without Turbo Power).
Many users are reporting this on social media and Moto Forums... they seem to be recommending sending device in for repair (at user cost).
Hopefully, they fix the software.
My advice is put your Moto in the garbage can and buy a phone from a manufacturer with real support
I did a factory reset without downloading extra apps. And for now it's holding a charge better. I suspect one of the downloaded apps from before the Oreo update wasn't behaving. I'm going to add an app every week to see if it effects the battery. One other thing I found was after reaching 100% while charging doesn't really do it. I now restart when it reaches 100% and continue charging for at least a hour.
I am having the exact same issue.
I think it started since the Last update.
Is there a way to go back to nougat or an earlier release?

I had a similar issue. To fix it I disabled the battery saver mode. Even though it went into red territory 1-3% charge it kept going for another half hour playing videos with screen on. Afterwards battery life was much better.

My battery on my 10i is acting kind of strange.
It has happened several times now that the phone even when charged from the charger that comes with the phone, not from a pc its not charging properly.
I wake up the phone is on 100% i deside to "snooze" for an hour when i then get up the battery was on 40%, still in the charger Today almost the same only that i woke up to a battery that was on 94% even after 8 hours of charging.
Sometimes the battery life on it is good other days its not. Iv checked if there is any program running that is consuming an awfull lot of power but there aren't.
Is this the battery failing?

What you can do is install xrecovery from Z on it. And then charge is to 100% and run the reset battery fron xrecovery.
Btw, when u charge the phone it is normall that it will drop a little bit when it's at 100%, it will go down to maybe 95% and then up again.
But a drop from 10u0% to 40% is not healty.. you could download the app SystemPanal. it will monitor what your phone is doing and thereby also your battery.

I have xRecovery on it and i did the reset battery, even did a new rom update. and i use the systempanel pro for monitoring to see if there is anything that is consuming to much power but i haven't found anything yet.
its now gone from 94% to 90% (wifi on) since i got up for about 2 hours ago. Not that bad now it seems. But sometimes it just drops and drops.
Maybe i should just get a new battery, they aren't that expencive.

Well 4% with 2 hours is good with wifi on. But yeah it's weird that it drops that hard sometimes. Probably the battery itself then..
How much is a battery btw?

Hi this is my first ever post so please bear with me, my lumia like many others suffers from ridiculous battery drain I have the new software and yes I can now charge to the max. However the battery cannot last the day out until I discovered this. Most people I know continually top up there battery, but if you just let it completely die then do a full charge overnight you may like me notice a massive increase in battery life, I have changed nothing about the way I use my phone the only difference is it now lasts 2 days easily.
The figures quoted in battery saver have not changed but as the day goes on the time since last charge goes up but so does the estimated battery life.
My phone is now IMO fantastic.
Maybe if you tried this it might work for you too, do hope so.
One word of caution when the phone has died the phone cannot be switched on until charger has been plugged in for some time, in my case about 20 minutes after plug in the phone switches itself on.
Please try and maybe you will also have the most amazing phone too.

I think I experienced something similar. I then flashed the new firmware and am back to lower battery life. Need to take the time for a few discharge cycles.
The problem with this approach is that some Lumia 800's cannot turn on after a full discharge. People have gone to great lengths to be able to get a tiny bit of charge so that it could power on. Some people have had to send them back for repair.
Question to TS. Do you let it completely die every time now or can you charge it whenever and still get the great battery life?
battery fix maybe
Hi after letting the phone die I have not done it again since, I just top up as needed or at night just as you would normally do.
Hope this helps.
Okey. When you say "completely let it die" do you mean letting it drain and turn off. Or do you start it once again after the first turning off and let it die again?
battery fix maybey
Just use the phone till it turns itself off, then plug in charger, this is when you may have to wait for the phone to switch on, mine turns itself on after about 20 minutes, charge as normal then use as normal, charging as you would normally do.
Good luck.
I did this once intentionally about two weeks ago. Did not notice any difference really. I do not have "bad" battery life to begin with. Not great either though. But it easily lasts a full day with heavy usage which is all I need really.
12 hours since last charge. 73% left on battery. I have used it "normally". About 10 quick calls. A few messages. Browsing on the marketplace installing a few apps editing contacts etc...
I'm pretty heavy on my usage, too. Lots of Mix Radio, sometimes played via bluetooth.
Hey guys what's this means?!
My battery is falling down automatically with no use!
See
I am wondering about this faulty behavior because i am in 510 firmware with no extra apps installed
I had this issue with. 475 too.
Help me please if this is a hardware issue send it back for second time in this week!
Instead of i charged this phone two time totally when i am bought it.first time faulty drainage happened yesterday when i played some game and battery went to 80% then i went to sleep for half an hour and when i turn the phone on again, noticed to battery is lost to 30%!
Sent from my C6802 using Tapatalk 2
I noticed a faulty battery usage indicator on mine.
It happened 2 or 3 times, when I plugged the USB cable to the phone (other end connected to a PC or charger) and the phone LED immediately turned green and the battery indicator jumped from 60% to 100%.
Nothing happens if I re-plug the charging cable, the phone keeps saying it's fully charged. Even powering off doesn't help.
The 100% power won't drain faster but I noticed that when it goes to 30% the phone will shutdown because no more juice is inside the battery and the indicator will go back to less than 10% after re-plugging the power cord.

In your case i think that's better try it with latest firmware.maybe solved.
But for me,the story is different, unfortunately!
another Q has been busy in my mind. Why sony didn't used a better charger for this phone?! Charger has only 1.5 mA output power! For test, i am charging the phone now with s IV charger (2mA)

Higher mA output is not necessarily better.
Taking more time to charge is more gentler on your battery.
Pumping up the mAh to 2 or higher will improve the charging time, but the number of total cycle charges (i.e. life span of your battery) will go down and suffer.
Anyway, 3 hrs from empty to full is normal, right? Anything quicker is a quickcharger.

Good thing you included screenshots from GSAM, so that we have something to go on now.
Remaining (Av.use) 18:51
This tells me that you once had a phone that was efficient, so from the day you realised this drop in performance, scrutinize what settings have changed (inc app installation)
Remaining (last 15 min usage) 5:47
IF u continue using your device in the way you have done in the last 15 mins, you have under 6 hours left of battery power.
In the 15% discharge since fully charged (and since when GSAM started taking this data on your screenshot), 62.9% of power was used by screen.
Some conclusions can be drawn here.
As you mention, you were probably playing some games during the 4hrs and 11min the phone was turned on(from when it was fully charged and then unplugged), very likely during the latter stages than earlier from when the phone was fully charged.
I see your screen is set on DIM, and that it has been active for nearly one hour. Your display was on for 25% of the time since full charge, and that has only used up 15% of battery.
Whether it is games or video playback, screen will be on, and looking at the data there is nothing faulty. In another words, set at dim, 7 hours or so of continuous display on sounds about right..(1 hr already used plus 5:47 expected left)
Now, if your complaint is that if you turned your phone screen off and left it that way for a few hours, came back, then found massive power drain, again, a few conclusions can be taken.
It is a shame there is no screenshot of the app usage form the exact same period. But, If you left the game app open in the background, it is possible that power is drawn still, possibly if your phone is not sleeping properly. In another words, CPU usage for game is there even when not used.
Do you have stamina mode on?
Conclusion... Form GSAM data, there is nothing wrong.
Looking at the first screen capture in OP, as you say, drain happened when phone was not awake, and screen off. I can only conclude that there was an app(s) open at the time which had been still running. If the app(s) is not closed or hibernated properly, it can happen.
If your phone felt hot at that time, it confirms CPU usage. In another words something was left open. If it was cold, even though the phone had been off for a while, then it could be faulty battery calibration.
And next time you see this big drop in charge, take screen shots of GSAM from apps and system. We would know then for sure.

Special thanks for your great comment
Fortunately, that horrible battery drainage don't happened from yesterday to now.
This means there is no faulty behavior after last full charge that i have been!
I don't know that reason but i done some actions after fully charged phone yestarday:
1.instilling Gsam battery pro as you have seen!
2.Charging with another charger(2mA galaxy s4 charger)
3.setting screen brightness to 30%
4.setting off "optimized backlight"
5.battery calibration with "battery calibration" app
This new informations from my battery behavior after 19 hours fully charged at last day from now and i hope that horrible drainage wouldn't happen in future else!

Hi all, thanks in advance for your help.
I've been having crazy drain trouble with my stock battery for about six months now (the battery is currently 15 months old). It's draining like crazy, it goes from 100% to dead after two hours of browsing/reading an ebook, even less if I'm playing something like Candy Crush Saga or Asphalt 7. I tried going through several apps such as Wakelock Detector, Better Battery Stats, tried recalibrating the battery and haven't found an obvious culprit - other than the screen, which alone uses up something between 40 and 60% of the battery.
Is this normal?
Sometimes, when the battery is at 30% or less, it will just drop by several percent in the matter of seconds, for example if I switch on mobile internet. If I'm using the phone at <10%, the screen will sometimes start flickering, and the phone will freeze and remain like that until I switch it off manually.
In addition, if I connect the phone to charge, in about 70% of times, it will incorrectly show something like 45-55%, even though it's depleted. Then it remains like that until it's charged up to that point and then the percentage starts rising again.
Honestly, I'm tired of having to bring my charger everywhere and ending up with a dead phone whenever I need it for a longer period of time. I don't remember the last time my battery didn't die by the afternoon
I'm facing exactly the same issues and yes, honestly I believe it's time for a new battery.
After 15 months, assuming daily charging, you would have approx. 450 charging cycles. Lion batteries are known to age and to lose capacity after so many cycles. Try a new battery, if the problem persists, have your phone checked.

Hi all, this may seem like a strange question.
Just got a new Mate 10 Pro, and when I switched it on for the first time the battery percentage was at 42%. I've read somewhere that as a general rule for new phones, batteries are normally between 50 and 60% out of the box, and if it is anything less this could be a sign that the battery is faulty (e.g. can't hold charge for long). Also my last few phones have actually been around 50-60%, so was a little concerned to see it at 42%.
Does anyone know if this is true or what I've read is a load of rubbish?
Don't want to return phone but will if I have to.
Thanks.
I had mine with 34%. Some even got them at 0%. Try charging and see if it charges fast. And then use the phone. If all seems normal than there's no problem.
But that's is really weird,i saw 3 new mate 10 that came with dead battery, I'm sure that's not normal.
I'm thinking that while the phones were shipped they turned on automatically and drained the battery.
..
I spoke to Huawei and they say they've had multiple cases of battery being below 60% due to phones being accidently turned on in transit. They suggested charging to 100%, then leaving phone in airplane mode overnight with all apps closed and seeing how much the battery drains. Anything above 96% is a good battery apparently.

Same here!!!!
Completely dead!!!!!
Mine was stone dead out of the box. Zero %. !!! Charged it up.... took an hour and a bit to get to 100%. Used it for just over a week now and battery is fine and dandy... Drops a couple of percent overnight... Lasts forever during the day. Really is a monster battery. Seen quite a few reports of zero % out of the box (which is pretty unusual....most phones I've had seem to be about 60%) but doesn't seem to be an issue... maybe that's how they ship them now...for whatever reason ???? Anyway, seems to be a non-issue.
Same thing. My first mobile with dead battery after I opened box. But about 10minutes I had same percent I can use.
Odesláno z mého BLA-L29 pomocí Tapatalk
mines had 12% i never switched it on plugged in the charger as i like to start with 100% battery while setting up a new phone.
Guys, the battery measurements seem to be screwed up at first. Even when I switched phone off, it drained like 10%. However, after about 3 full charges, everything is great. Still at 100% in 2 days (yeah, I left it off for 2 days just to check). So, my theory is just that the phone needs to calibrate its measurement of the charge percentage.
My pro came with dead battery too.
Same here, dead battery. After first charging, is working just fine.

With wifi, there might be some background app processes running that are draining battery life. Try it without wifi. You should lose less than 5%.
mine completely dead on arrival...I also notice that the power button easily press n get the phone to restart few times for me...
They're supposed to charge it till its full on the first time to optimise it
I'm surprised so many Mate 10 Pro's have been delivered dead or with minimum percentage. Mine switched itself off at 10% so seems like there is some calibration issues too. Hopefully these will work themselves out after a few charges, not sure if it's because the phone is so new (maybe first batch niggles?), but didn't have any of these issues with my Mate 9.
How are people's batteries that came dead or with minimum percentage performing so far?
