Ok bit of a moan here, sorry.
But surely there must have been a fix made somewhere to get a flash pluginworking
I mean a proper fix, not a try this or that version.
OK hands up, i dont have a clue why jb no longer allows the older plugins to not work, but there are so many talented people that hack, code, rewrite, compile and sk on literally millions of variations of models.
Surely someone has taken offense at adobes insult to android and rewritten it to work again ?
I cant be the only one desperate to be rid of that simple plugin content message and watch my streaming vids again.
Maybe there are too many devices now. Maybe too many versions of android to worry about, or changes to websites.
But I literally cannot stand web pages full of tracking links, moving ads and silly java pop ups all the time, and so ill never ever use chrome or anything enhanced for the rubbish html5 or whatever it is, but the older simple version of opera, where flash content DID work.
There are certainly many sites that still use, and adobes full speed knocking out updates for pc.
So why cant we find a fix for our jb android and basic browsers?
Or have the ad men won, and screwed us.
After combing the internet for a couple weeks, since installing Ubuntu Touch on my Nexus 7 2013, I have yet to find an up to date video, review, or usable bug report for the layperson as an end user. This is desperately needed and would lead to speeding up developing apps and abilities of the OS and its application on various devices.
Using the OS on a daily basis I have seen sporadic new apps showing up in the "Available" section of the APPS Scope, mostly non-US types in some other language. I ave no idea where they come from nor who is submitting them, but evidently, folks in Germany and other Euro countries have the ear of the devs developement. Up until now, There's no porting of regular .deb applications such as Pidgin or even open source versions of Flash for video viewing. Yes, I can't even watch the nonexistent Youtube videos about my OS on the OS, itself.
Someone pick up the ball on this blazing hot mobile OS, please?! We could use some content about it and its developement!
There are some resources out there. The following is a list of the links I use most:
Build test results: http://ci.ubuntu.com/smokeng/utopic/touch/
Changelogs: http://people.canonical.com/~ogra/touch-image-stats/
Development info: http://developer.ubuntu.com/apps/
Bug reports are handled via launchpad: https://launchpad.net/
If you're unsure which package to report it against, maybe use this one: https://launchpad.net/ubuntu-touch-preview
Oh, and some porting is actually done: Trojita and Cantata
I recently moved to a BLU Studio energy and I am enjoying it very much. I use limited apps/services on my phone and want to know what would be the best launcher, settings and/or apps to utilize to limit RAM usage. I want to know if using the stock apps, (browser, messaging, music, etc...) will help utilize the RAM better or if I need a different launcher or both.
The phone has 1gb and consistently runs at 80% of max. I have not received a warning, however, I would like to be proactive in preparation. The phone is a quad core Mediatek running 4.4.2 on a seemingly thin BLU skin. I run one home page, no widgets and have shut off all animations. I would like to see the phone running with what I need around 60-70% of max. I currently use mostly google applications and have listed the extras below that I must have. I am open to all suggestions, even changing apps to more ram friendly types and will provide whatever information about the phone as I know it is a new model and there is not a lot of info here as of yet. I also am aware that there is a way to add RAM from an SD card, but, there is no guide to rooting listed here on site so it is not a viable option as of yet.
Apps on Phone beyond stock:
Amazon
Keep
Feedly
Gamestop
Last.fm
Keepsafe
Shuttle
Wallet
Rigdata
I truly appreciate any help or respectful opinions that can be offered.
try nova launcher
experiment and see which runs the best for your phone each is different
Hi all.
I have a rooted phone that is used strictly in wifi mode and only needs to be able to run 4 or 5 standard aps, a couple of optional aps, plus the aps that support rooted phones and enhanced power management. I don't want google-anything on it, and I am not kidding. My prime concern is battery life, I hope to be able to run my phone for 3 to 4 days (or more) between charges, so deleting all fluff aps and crapware is important, as is underclocking it and getting rid of google. I also want to stop updating of the operating system and installed software by google.
I hope to do a hardware mod to remove power from the cell band rf transceiver. Despite it being turned off in the phone using software, I am detecting occasional transmissions from the cell band transmitter. Hardware mods are not a problem for me, I'm a retired EE, who specialized in RF design.
I need to know if it's possible for the phone to function if gmail, google+, google search, chrome, google calendar and google-whatever are exhorsized (uninstalled)? Yes, I also want to give the playstore the boot, to prevent excessive battery drain (and, yes, I do realize downloading aps will be slightly more difficult without the playstore).
For those who might be interested, the phone is used as a wifi phone for the home based Ooma telephone service. I also might like to run a mini bittorrent server. It seems to me that the android community could use bittorrent in place of the playstore, thus making it easier for others to give google and google playstore the boot
I love this forum, and want to thank all those that support and administer it.
Aloha,
A

There are threads all over the place trying to do this. Google is deeply ingrained into all the apks used by the os. You will be very hard pressed to find away to remove them completely and still have things work right.
I agree that security is an illusion. I dumped Microshaft in 2013 in order to improve my security and privacy.
However, the android operating system is supposed to be open source, so it should be possible to de-google-ize it IF someone knows how to edit and recompile the android OS.
I was merely asking if anyone knew of a way to give google the boot, even if it came down to paying someone to compile a custom rom.
The loss of google playstore is not a consideration, neither is a monetary forfeiture (any programmers out there?).
I'm curious, is it possible to gag google so it can't connect to the outside world (with a firewall)? We used to do this in XP to prevent Bill's Internet Explorer from downloading updates.
Are any of the custom roms currently available able to run without google-anything??
Is there any hope, or is it truly hopeless? If a custom rom that gave google the boot was available, how many would pay a small fee to have it? Just curious??!!

There is one project that is working on removing Google completely in the forums. A search will find it for you. There are some issues that I don't recall if they could find a way around or fix. You could give that a shot.
My android died on me over the weekend and I picked up an Elite X3 off marketplace from a developer that used it to test apps. I admit that I did not research windows phones prior to purchase. I looked at the specs and the price and knew I needed to replace my phone for work so I pulled the trigger.
Its a nice phone but annoyed with how many apps I didn't have access to through windows. My online experience runs heavily through google apps and services. I have my RSA App for work which is good but I'm missing my usual social media and entertainment apps that keep me sane driving through weekday traffic to work and back. I saw several examples of developers adding apps to the phone by installing APK files but so far have been unable to replicate their processes.
I know there is a ROM of the older version that allowed for APKs to be installed but some of the instructions I have found have been a little unclear and seem to only be made for Lumia phones.
If there are HP Elite X3 users here with more experience and knowledge I would appreciate some assistance. Not trying to do a lot just add some apps. I work Helpdesk IT and not a developer. Although I don't have the extensive deeper knowledge many of you guys have, I can follow instructions well.
Thank you guys ahead of time for any help you give me.
