Z5C does not detect OTG devices - Xperia Z5 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, I have a E5823 with the latest stock Rom, rootet, green kernel 1.16 and TWRP 3.2.1.
The phone does not detect any OTG devices such as an USB-Stick. In recovery mode TWRP detects the USB-Memory and I can acces to it. But on Android it detects nothing.
Can anyone help me please?
Thank you!

What does it say when you plug it in, go to settings, device connection, USB connectivity, detect USB device?

It says : no usb device found. But in TWRP the Stick is found.

Can you try other kernels?

I already tried a newer version of green kernel but there
was no change. I will search for other kernels. Do you have any recommendation?

You need flash rom. Try flash stock rom.

I flashed the latest stock rom and OTG works. But I need root and have to flash an other kernel and then OTG does not work any more. Does anyone know a kernel, where OTG works?
Thank you.

Otg works :good:

Settings Search USB devices
Hi,
the plug and play otg device did not work for me as well.
You need to go to Settings - Network Connections - usb connection.
There you can detect a otg device

Stock rom :good: <--- OTG works.
Zacherias kernel last version 2.8.7 :good: <--- OTG doesn´t work any more.
Flash magish :good:
Otg works :good:

The error is probably with the rom and not with the kernel, because with the stock rom works perfectly...
After flashing this kernel my neo v gets rooted on .62 stock ROM ....
but will this rooted ROM work if i change the kernel to something else like nightelf stock kernel .... ???
or have anyone tested it yet ???
let me know ....

Root privileges are integrated in this kernel. So you will not stay rooted almost for sure, if you flash another kernel which is not prerooted...

You will be able to update normally to ICS using PC companion, but to be ablolutely sure, you better relock your bootloader before the update...
@bbooff: few days ago I flashed ICS beta from sony page, and I used your kernel for hot boot just so I can install zip with superuser stuff.
Today I flashed stock .62fw, and wanted to hot boot with your kernel, but no luck, I needed to flash it in order to boot into CWM.
You got any idea why id did cooperate on ICS and not on clean .62
Also I couldn't do factory reset while I was using your kernel. I guess that is kinda normal as it's not stock kernel, but still I thought it should work

I have no idea!
The opposite is what should had happened.
I think that if you reinstall 0.62 (using flashtool and not wotan) and then my kernel, everything will be o.k.
If you install a custom kernel, you can do a factory reset through the cwm menu.

Actually I did used flashtool.
After I flash your kernel I can enter cwm. problem is if I try hot boot it.
and about factory reset, I know we can do it via recovery, but is it normal that we can't do it from phone?

fastboot boot boot.img
it allows you to boot with kernel without flashing it.
your kernel is very good.... simple and easy... helped me restore my phone back...
But now i am facing one more problem...
whenever I try to install any other kernel through fastboot, that kernel does not work; instead your kernel starts booting up...
Can you please throw some light on it?
Thnx

It won't work on stock. Currently the only kernel for the 5.0 with USB OTG support is the latest beta of my kernel designed for CM10.1: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252851

YEAH another 16 year old! :highfive:
You have to root your player, install Entropy512's kernel (assuming your SGP 5.0 is a USA model), flash a CM10.1 ROM, flash gapps, then flash my kernel. Also, the USB OTG on this device requires a power source

Gapps = Google apps
Google apps is stuff like the Play Store, etc. All the apps are included in 1 .zip file that you flash after flashing the ROM. Also, before flashing CM10.1 you need to wipe data, system, dbdata (or datadata), and cache.

If I added the USB serial driver and some other stuff then probably. But it's useless because USB OTG requires a power source.

Just flash a kitkat compatible recovery and flash the wizzedkat zip file by booting to recovery mode. But be sure to read more about this in other threads. you will find lots here.
EDIT: custom recoveries can be installed by using just the phone. No need for odin. Try temporary cwm recovery.

The easiest way is to flash stock 5.1.1 with flashtool or restore tablet with pc-companion which will do basically the same.
P.S: Though, if you still need kernel, here it is.

OTG Not Working on Custom Roms.

Hi,
OTG seems not at all working on custom ROMs.
I've tried the following.
1.LineageOs 14.1(7.1.2) Official
2.HavocOs (8.1) (Latest Build)
3.RR (8.1) (Latest Build)
Not Working.. But Works with MIUI ROMs.
Edit :Not Working on Stock Also
What miui firmware do you use? And you install miui roms with fastboot or with recovery?
